Ok

Well,

Scrap everything I said about the replacement vehicle for the Gr. Caravan. We are NOT buying ourselves a new used car to replace it. We are NOT getting the Taurus to replace it. We are, however, rather MOH is getting a BRAND NEW 2014 Hyundai Elantra in choice of color, SE base model {which is loaded with the typical goodies}!! The FIL is springing the money for it! He said he'd rather spend some money while he is alive and see MOH enjoy it than for MOH to inherit and spend it later!

http://www.edmunds.com/hyundai/elantra/2014/?style=200499025&sub=sedan#pricing-pod-anchor

http://www.thecarconnection.com/overview/hyundai_elantra_2014

I WAS gonna paste/copy the link to it's listing, but that is ALREADY removed from their website.

The car is all picked out and MOH will wait til friday next to pick it up! Not wanting to wait that long, but MOH will have the time to pick it up next friday. Mind you, now if the MIL was still alive, he'd have not done it in case they {she} needed money for something! FIL even sprung for extra warrantee and rust proofing!

I had no trouble getting in and out with my cane'd self, so MOH is pleased with that. FIL had it in mind tha this was THE CAR he was gonna buy and I/we did nto feel too cramped in it.

SO HOORAY! Now, Monday early I have to find out how much more we pay to insure it!! And go PAY it! I knew there was a reason I was budgeting more aside than we owed, for a newER model, not a NEW model.

I was kinda hoping Jeffrey would be in, and thusly out of the hospital! I wonder how complicated it is at healing, he doesn't need any more amputations! MAybe later? Of course they generally don't like to release people on weekends around these here parts, so maybe it with them down there. I wonder if he is a pleasant patient or an Ornery patient? I'll bet he keeps the nurses hopping!

Well, It is now raining here. We are under a FLOOD warning! SO, IFF'EN you don't hear from me, I hate to say it, but that means we are out of power! The  flood warning ends SUnday at 8PM. OUR electrical substation could be underwater by then! Not like yo'all'll miss me much. Probably relieved to be rid of this blabber mouth for a  few days.

Later dinner is catch as catch can.

Well, glad to hear Jeff is on the mend.  I send my prayers to him, and all who need them.  I didn't get around to working on my scrapyard scene at the club layout today, just was one of those days where you just want to lie around or sleep (rainy, dreary day).  I finished up my HO scale painted Christine, and restrung one of my guitars this morning.  No luck on the job search front, but I am still positive something will happen.  I think I may start building the frame for my board I got to build a layout on top of.

Ah yes, a productive day working on the RR. Put down a ton of plaster cloth, just about out of my current supply and have to wait to do more until the other half of my order arrives. I just hate getting backordered.

Anyway, I mixed up some of the 90 minute drywall compound kind of soupy and brushed it on a bunch of plaster cloth areas I'd already done. Seems to work really well and you don't have to rush like you do with the plaster of paris. So far so good. The other thing I like is that it is way less expensive the P of P. All I have to use P of P for now is rock molds which I need to get going on again. Running out of the boxfull I made last fall.

No sun today and more sn*w forcast for tonight. Will this never end? Oh well, as long as it's uh, Not Nice Out I can work on the RR.

Sounds like MOH has decided it's bathroom cleaning day tomorrow so with three of them it will take up the morning. Oh well.

Have a good night campers!!

Well

nothing but heavy rains now,. OUt W of upstate they have winter snow Warnings, so we don't have that, just rian, lots of it, but if it floods, we may wish we had snow instead!

We can't wait to get the new car, of course.

Tried napping beofre the SUZE ORMAN show, but didn't work. MOH is abed already {no doubt dreaming of new car} as very early work day tomorrow. May even beat me up at an early hour!

Well, if this keeps up {rain} I cna see why flooding..oh they changed it from 8 pm sunday to 5 pm monday.

one nore look at the new car: http://www.autoblog.com/2013/11/21/2014-hyundai-elantra-la-2013/

May be able to get a new caravan too, if they give me a fair amount for the KIa before it gets "too old". The base gr caravans start at $21,185 for base model which comes with all I really need in a vheicle. $21,480 to get the donut spare with it, need that. We'd have a payment a bit higher than now, but it may work. Dunno.

I'll have to remind FIL that my birthday is in September as the new car was bought for MOHs birthday!

Hhmm, Hope I see you'all later, and don't lose power!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf and a piece of cherry pie with Cool Whip (Shipped on the LA&L)

Galaxy. congratualtions to YOH on the new car!  We are having a mostly rain event here in the Finger Lakes at the moment but could have about 3" of the icky cold white STUFF on the ground by morning.

Dennis, I have been using diluted ready mixed drywall mud for many years now for the scenery base (Over Plaster Cloth).  Works very well and I like the way it takes paint.

Jimmy, another guitarist, huh?  I used to teach guitar privately.  Both Steel String and Classical.  Mine has been sitting in its case for a few years now.  I need to get it out, restring it, and get my fingers back in shape while I can still hear well enough to do it....  Sadly I keep putting it off.  Here is mine:

It is a sweet sounding Cordoba I bought to get me back at it......  What are you playing?

Went to Rules Class today.  The test at the end had 33 questions on it, each worth 3 points.  I got a 96 on it.  Missed one question that I should have known about time of service, but got confused due to a discussion on it as I had trouble getting everything said due to being deaf....  After a pizza lunch we had the Air Brake and Train Handling Class.  I didn't take the written test on that one as my hearing makes me unqualified to be an Engineer or Conductor.  I did learn quite a bit of stuff though.  Next year I may take the test and qualify as a Brakeman if that is possible....

Did a bit more ballasting tonight near where the Blacksmith's Shop will be.  Need to get that done before I tackle the greenery.  Will have some time to continue w*rking on the area tomorrow.

Have a great night and stay out of the weather and dry...

I restrung a standard Fender 6 string acoustic.  I've been playing my Ovation 12 string a lot.  I also have been messing around with my 1967 Fender mustang (all original), and my Fender Strat-squire using my Marshall amp and amp processor.

Hello everybody ...

We'll just keep Jeff on the prayer list. It sounded like it would be a few days before he is back on the computer. Also, I'm not sure if Jeff is "going home" to his trailer or to his Dad's house. Obviously walking will be a problem.

I had a day full of non-model-railroad stuff tpday. Nuts to that. I was briefly running the 2-10-2, and the Sountraxx Tsusami acted up. I have just re-installed it a couple of days ago after a factory repair. It was working fine and suddenly stopped going forward. I rund fine in reverse, and its sound function works in forward while it goes nowhere. Then I left it on the track to go elsewhere and do "honey-dos".  I have not yet returned to the layout to work with it. .... Yet another frustrating case of "You're retired. You're not doing anything."

Happy Model Railroading

Good Morning!

Lots of fog outside, which hopefully will clear up soon. It´s been a cold night, well it is still March, isn´t it?

Galaxy- congrats on the new car. Hyundai cars are getting more and more popular over here, as they offer a good value for the money. Before I got that little Volkswagen we are now driving, I took a look at Hyundai cars, but had difficulties getting into them. I guess they are made for  folks who are not 6´5".

Jimmy - good news on that mole turning into a scab!

Well, today is day three of our tour of the Great Little Trains of Wales! We´ll be setting out to the small town of Tywyn, where we will board a train of the Talyllyn Railway heading for Nant Gwernol. The Talyllyn Railway was opened in 1866, with the purpose of hauling slate to the sea port town of Tywyn. With the decline of this business, it shared the fate of all of these lines, finally closing down in 1950. Rescue came in 1951, when a group of enthusiasts led by the author and biographer Tom Rolt acquired the railway and began the preservation.

Watch this heartwarming video to learn more about the early days of the preserved line!

Now, let´s board the train, pulled by "Tom Rolt", a 0-4-2 tank engine, built in 1991, and named to honor L.T.C. Rolt.

Prayers for Jeff, Johnboy and Flip, not to forget the young girl Lexi!

Have a good one!

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!

Today is Sunday,

March 30th, 2014!

Healing thoughts, energies

and prayers go out

to: Jeffrey, Johnboy, Flip,

Lexie, Dennis' MIL,

anybody I missed,

Family and friends,

I heard of a doctor named Jack,

Whose patients never come back.
He gives them a hug,
And then pulls the plug,

He was hit by a plow
When he started to scream
He realized it was a dream
Then he got up and said WOW!

I have to say I miss Jeffrey.

I sincerely hope Jeffrey is in the hospital learning to walk without his toe and that is why he wasn't realeased so soon... Because he had PT, LOTS of it to relearn to walk.

I also hope maybe now his father slows down on his demands of Jeffrey as He is losing body parts in helping his father do so many things!

I wonder if Jeffrey went to his "other hobby" the computers cause working on trains was causing him trouble? He feels as little in his hands/fingers as he does his toe.

Anyway, I have him on the "fast track" and "hard to heal" prayer list. I don't think he really believes in such, but he sure can use them now!

We pulled together for him in his hour of need before, lets pull together in PRAYERS for him!

Thank you for the tour Ulrich. That was a nice video of the Talyllyn Railway. I did a Google search to see if it is still around. Well, it is and has quite a website.  http://www.talyllyn.co.uk/home if anyone is interested.

For the most part, the Europian steam locomotives kick a lot of our American locos.  But then again, American diesels are more asthetically pleasing just in my opinion.  Thenagain, I love all steam equally, but Narrow gauge small steamers hold a special place in my heart, considering the Durango and Silverton/EBT were the first trains I ever rode on as a passenger, and have yet to go anywhere by Amtrak.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and of course the Sunday breakfast buffet!

Sunny, with a high near 63.

Jimmy- I hope it’s just a scab.

Karl- Glad things on the work front are good. I suppose it’s better to be busy than need work.

I doubt if much indoor stuff gets done today due to the predicted weather. BUT, there is still a chance prior to the venturing outdoors seeing as how it is still below freezing as I type.

Went and got all the bicycles for the Easter egg hunt yesterdayYes. Or so I thoughtNo. When we were leaving she said she needed only 2 more girls bikes and we can get them tomorrow. I quickly gave her a look like Indifferent WHAT??!! She laughed and said she was kidding. I know that tone thoughHuh?, no she wasn’t. That woman can figure out how to spend the most money... as long as it’s someone elses of course. I made the comment last night up to the restaurant when she was talking about a raffle for two tickets to see a Cardinal/Cub game in St Louis complete with travel down there that she would not do, after her comments on the Chinese waitress that wasn’t ours (we had a guy) who just wanted to make sure i was enjoying my dinner, and before a short discussion on my new found favorite sport of pole dancing (NOT the stripper kind) where I made the statement she is the only person I know who can spend more money on a free trip than if you just paid for the thing outright. She claimed she was thinking about making me wear the piece of PIE I was eating. But it was true. AAAnywho, I have to wash the bunny suit , they wouldn’t dry clean it, they said it would melt. They read the tag to me, hand wash or machine wash gentleSigh. See I thought Brenda read the tag when she said “it says it has to be dry cleaned”, so I never read it myself though from pst experience I knew I should have. I never asked her what she meant by “it says…” I figure it’s best I not know.Blindfold

Ribs for dinner with some kinda sauce she bought from a local place at the Illinois Wine and Food Producers Expo a week or two ago that has Mango in it so….got that going for me!!! She also has one made with bacon, but she said that one wasn't that good. I wanted to ask her why she bought it. Then I asked myself, do I really want to know? HmmNo.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

I did a Google search to see if it is still around. Well, it is and has quite a website.

Eric - all of these lines are very much alive and kicking. They provide a boost for the local economy, which has to rely on tourism after the decline of the slate quarrying business. But without the help of numerous volunteers, who chip in endless hours of unpaid work, all of this would have been gone by now. Some funding is granted by the British State Lottery, which helps to cover necessary capital investments. All of these little railways are in excellent condition, unlike so many things in the UK.

With my tour I aim at wetting your appetite to spend a week in Wales. We did that back in 2006 on the occasion of my 50th birthday. My wife and I just loved to ride those little trains, as they are running through breathtaking scenery. We had rented a 900 year old cottage, which made me humble with my only 50 years in that year. The only downside to a vacation in Wales is the food. Restaurants are scarce and expensive, and pub lunches are, well, shall I say a little rustic? Fish and chips, lasagne and chips, chili and chips, spaghetti and chips, burgers and chips, plus a variation of food I would not feed to the pigs is all what you can expect. The little village of Beddgelert sports a little cafe, run by a Dutch couple, where you get decent coffee and a selction of nice cakes and pies. Most of the times, we did our own cooking in the evenings and went for a light lunch only - tea and biscuits, a cucumber sandwich Smile, Wink & Grin

I sure wish I had the means to go there again one day, but this will be most likely not in this life anymore.

Yeah thats what I got to thinkign after, I guess if there was pipe dope on outside that squeezed out it would dry. I think Im am going to replace the shutoff valves too and also might replace the crappy clamp on gasket with something like a sharkbite fitting.

Anybody familiar with sharkbite fittings, do you need a special wrench to fit them? I thought I heard you dont need one to get them on but if you need to remvobe it for any reason taht you have to get one?

They do sound handy though as no soldering is involved, I dont mind soldering though. Its the one home repair I can do somewhat decent Stick out tongue

Not feeling well, I did the morning postings, but went right back to bed.

I have a nasty habbit of developing an allergy or "adverse reactions" as they call them now. I was kinda reacting last night, but DOn't know to WHAT. Unless it is the one phycotrope I THOUGHT i was reacting to untilwe switched it's dose from night to morning. I can't sleep, get all anxious and uptight and figitty, and panicky, and that does nto do me anygood at night time.

I took some Benedryl which we keep on hand in these cares, but I need ed some mroe after teh mornign postings. It has the natural side effect of sleepiness! SO it gave me some rest fortunately.

SInce I am swtiching mental health clinics I will see the Nurse Practitioner, or is it the Physicians Assistant? On Wednesday next. Maybe we can hash out the reaction, it may be due to acumulation in my body that does it. WOuld hate to go back to Welbutrin/lithium to control the bipolar. DOesn't work well.

So far obviously I have accomplished nothing. Anybody wnat some small boxes?ANd plastic hangers?  we have a bundles! They will go to RECYCLE. I have to clear out the computer room and get to the wardrobe. We want the Hawaii pics out of there.

So, I have that, laundry and dishes to accomplish today. Yippee.

I think I will go back to bed.

The sn*wfall saga continues. Got 2 inches overnight with an adittional 1 inch predicted. Cold and windy too.

Homus don't you just love the amount of activities that are not available to those of us who are deaf and still deaf with a set of $8,000 hearing aids? Bugs the hell out of me but a lot of this getting older bugs the hell out of me. Don't get me started about the shake in my hands.

It is amazing how we learn to work around some of the old guy stuff though.

I really like the drywall compound for the scenry. I use fibreglass screening under my plaster cloth but now I'm thinking that maybe I can just skip the plaster cloth and just use 2 or three coats of the drywall compound mixed a little thicker. May try that today.

Not much planned for today except sn*w blowing and a trip to M&M for some frozen food stuffs. Wife decided she wasn't all gung ho about house cleaning today so that leaves me with RR time.

Jeremy, The sharkbite fittings work well so long as you get the right size one for your application. You can get the fittings off without the special tools if you're careful but the removal toolf makes it easier and they are not too expensive for the home owner versions.    J.R.

Yyyyyuppp!  The problem with me being an engineer is that the cabs are very noisy in these old antique diseasals we have at the museum and I can't pick out the radio which is considerably under the decibels of the prime movers, air compressors and other noise making stuff in the cab.  When I ride in the cab, the first thing I do is kick my hearing aids down about 3 notches.  I might be able to understand most of the radio messages from the back end of the second caboose, but I really don't trust my hearing well enough to get in a situation where I need to have a message repeated 3 or 4 times before I get it...  I do have and use the radio in my duties as car host, but it is rare and usually me asking the conductor to hold the train as I have people climbing around in the caboose making it unsafe to start the train.  I have been yelled at more than once for not answering a call to me when I was standing on the loco end of caboose C-254 and I hear "sghsand jd npa djda, OVER!" on the radio and the Prime Movers and airpump on the 80 tonner sounds like "GLUB, GLUB, GLUB, GLUB, GLUB, GLUB, GLUB,!!!"

I plan to spend all day down in the layout rooms so I don't have to look at the *******  (insert very nasty work not allowed here) White Crap coming down today!  Already got a couple inches, the solar panels haven't even fired up this morning, and I'M NOT SHOVELING ANY MORE OF THE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!  Not in good mood today....

Hopefully the day will improve!  I remain wishing you,

Ulrich, I would like to visit Wales someday, but I'm kind of in the same boat as you as far as 'loose cash' goes. I've been to England a few times over the last several years and loved the Cornwall area around St. Ives.  These trips were done when I was working and had the money (but not as much time as I would have liked) and now that I'm retired, I have the time but not all that money.  I don't mind the trade-off because there are many enjoyable things I'm doing.Big Smile

Last night we moved the clocks 1 hour forward, so today is the first day we enjoy an extra hour of daylight (and sunshine). Temperatures reached an enormous 26°C today, which is the highest temperature ever recorded on a March 30th!

Tomorrow afternoon I´ll be starting out to build the benchwork - oh joy, oh rapture!

Jeremy, The sharkbite fittings work well so long as you get the right size one for your application. You can get the fittings off without the special tools if you're careful but the removal toolf makes it easier and they are not too expensive for the home owner versions.    J.R.

Thanks JR,

The sharkbite I bought this morning came with the removal tool

I have gotten some piece of mind.  The one I was seriously worried about turns out to be a cut from when I cut myself on my matress (I need to flip it over to get rid of the exposed spring).  I've got one more birthmark I want looked at, but it is one my mom says I have always had, she has, my uncle has,etc...so Maybe I did overreact.  Let's just hope the dermatologist confirms this.

Jimmy Braum: Maybe our prayers worked already for you!

Jeffrey: I hope he comes home soon being able to walk on both the prosthetic and minus  a toe.

Jeremy:I gather you are doing plumbing of some sort. Or fishing for big fishies.  I see you are talking an item that can be used on PEX tubing. We had all the supply lines replaced {cost $3200} about 12 years ago with PEX plumbing due to t he old gray plastic was failing. We were told "it would never freeze, but if it does it will expand and contract and not leak". We have had ocassions where it has frozen and has never leaked! Fortunately. SO whatever you are doing, that piping at least will hold up. DOn't know about the fittings or your shark bites..they used compression wrneches {ithink} on ours.

RAY: sorry you got SNOW, adn we got rain, but we got LOTS of hard heavy rain and there is probably flooding at teh very low points of river banks.  It only got to like 30 F today, ans so was disapointed about that! MAybe yours will melt?

ULRICH: we done did the turn ahead 3 weeks ago, what took you so long?

Well, I put 28 boxes all condensed into the lamp box that is aobut 18" square and filled it. Also have about 4 dozen misc. plastic hangers bagged for recycling! About 25% more room in here. Now we discussed that most fo the stuff in the Wardrobe could possibly be thrown out as we are totally unsure of what is in there. If we haven't used it, then we probably don;t need it!

The Disney Cells I have collected MOH thinks shoudl be hung up and rotated seasonally. We are gettting little enjoyment of them, and protecting them for future value may be fruitless. SO why not enjoy them? I will have to look into the value of them. But last we saw on TV weren't worth much. We have drapes drawn all the time so sunlight deterioration won't be a factor.

I said we need to clean out the shed too, and MOH pointed out that we need a new shed! We don, but not now! We need to have it cleaned out first and is mostly my stuff. I don't know what is there, so it too can GO!

Same wiht the closet in the train room! It is mostly my stuff I weeded out years ago, but probably won't miss now either. WOudl love to have garage sale, but my back can't take that, I'd sell CHEaP! But curbside will be best bit.

We are somewhat hoarders, but no where near like the TV shows! BOht our parents have the same deal. They have stashed so much stuff it isn't funny.

ULRICH: MOH has a couple Grimm's farily tales originals in Deutsche We are going to give to a "grand nephew". His grandpas will keep it for him til he is old enough to value them himself.

Well, that about it, I am feeling bettter ,but don't know which med it is I react to. Will find out tonight if same thing happens then. It will be one i take at night then.

Have a great evening/night!

See you all in the morning!

Evening guys

Well the plans to go racing today was a bust. I got there, changed tires and got everything out of the car. That was at 1 pm. I get told that they won't allow test and tune till around 6pm. Reason being the bracket racing that was supposed to happen yesterday got postponed because it was cloudy, no rain.. So we just left. got our money back though.

I've been working on a kid at the mrr clubs trains. Sticking body-mounted couplers on a few Con-cor superliners, bachmann amfleer, and an IHC dome. Also doing that to and installing a decoder in a bachmann E60C (I recommended looking to see if bachmann made a newer one)... I got the decoder in, and need to get some screws to do the couplers.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

CDN Dennis and Ray, do you find that the ready made drywall compound cracks as it dries? Or is it a matter of applying layers that are not too thick?  I'm thinking of experimenting on some scrap track to create city street track.  I'm sure, somewhere in my parts collections, I have a set of trucks with the pizza cutter wheels to clear the flangeways.

Thanks,

Eric
