As hoped, I spent some time with my trestle last night reinforcing the joins in the girders and plotting how to fit the trestle to the stone block walls of the ditch. Pictures if I get really ambitious at some point.

I start job hunting again next week, and have reached where I need to find any job. Ah well, I will just enjoy this weekend where it is supposed to be 60 degrees and sunny. I am still disappointed in NS right now, They haven't sent any of the 5 heritage units I need to "complete my set" I still need the Wabash (Saw it no photograph though), the Central of Georiga, Conrail, Nickelplate, and the Interstate. I think NS is kind of leery to send any more heritage units on the Mon line (The Interstate was hit by a mudslide, and the N&W was hit by coal mine equipment). Anyway, Have a good day all.

Thank you for the tour Ulrich, it's pretty cool to take this ride while I'm having my morning mug of English Breakfast tea. Watching the world go by outside a train window is, to me, the greatest show on earth.
I received an email this morning from my bank that said I had a message concerning my account and I should log-in to my account online and read it. As it turns out, the message had some questions about my debit card activity and I should call them for specifics. I called and found out that there were 2 questionable charges. One was in the United Arab Emirates and the other, a telecommunications equipment company in Canada. Long story short, that card is cancelled and a new one is on the way. The account itself was untouched, so I guess they blocked these charges until I confirmed or denied them.
Weatherwise it's warming up but will likely rain later. I don't mind the rain too much because I don't have to shovel it.
At the risk of sounding repetetive, I'll be doing (you guessed it!) wiring. It's kind of enjoyable when done a little at a time. Take care everyone.

Wow, grandson slept till 6:30 this am. That was a bonus. MoH and I got what we thought was a good nights sleep but he's like an energy sponge. Sucks the energy right out of you. Wish I had his energy though.
His Dad is picking him up today which knowing him will be mid afternoon. Then it will be Nap time for Grandma and Grandpa me thinks.
Things didn't sound really good with Jeff for a few days before he disapeared so I supect he's in the hospital. That's where he needs to be with the number of significant medical issues he lives with. Hope he's improving but still concerned about him.
Looks like it finally quit dumping down the white stuff and the sun is sort of out but still 15 degrees below norm for this time of the year. Nice to see some sun at least.
Nothing much planned today as you can imagine. All grandson entertaining. Yahhhhhhh.

Well....... I'm more or less awake and functioning this morning. My sister's plane arrived on time at 10:30PM last night and I got her to her house about midnight... Of course she was still functioning at 2 hours earlier coming from mexico city. By the time she showed me all the new treasures she had gotten and told me about the couple who she doesn't like (the feeling mutual I guess) and several other not so good things going on during the trip (even though she still did enjoy the trip) I left her house at 1:45AM and got home a bit after 2AM this morning..... I got up around 7:30 to use that little room at the end of the hallway, gave Blackie his pill and went back to bed for a couple more hours.
Today is dark and dull here in the Finger Lakes but will reach 55°F they say. That is the highest temperature we have reached so far this year! I also have a bunch of errands I need to get done downtown right after lunch. Then I need to sort through all the photos I have tekjen so far of the Blacksmith's shop to show to a friend of mine. The two of us are working on a related project and have to choose a few of the best photos of it to use....
Tomorrow is "Rules Class and Brake Handling Day" for the museum so I will be on the road bright and early to go to RIT again. After that I meet with the guy about the photos.
I do hope that Jeffrey is in the hospital and recovering from his ailments! I have bad thoughts about some other possibilities..........
I have to do some laundry and get some other stuff done. Later!

Waiting for the rain which is suppose to be coming our way. It's getting very overcast, but nothing falling yet. This morning it was in the upper 50's with some sunshine. So I thought it would be a good time to clean the inside of the car in preparation for going away this weekend.
As I've mentioned before, I collect engines & rolling stock for railroads of Western Pennsylvania. Now I have a rule (which seems to broken from time to time) to limit myself to 1 locomotive per railroad, otherwise where would it all end. But the Pennsylvania Railroad had such neat stuff, that I Usually can talk myself into making an exception. So there's an Pacific 4-6-2, a Doodlebug, a GG-1, An E-7 (A&B), and a DR-12 Centipede. Now here come's Broadway Limit with an upcoming Baldwin BF-16 Sharknose. I keep going back to their website and each time it looks better & better. I think there's a pre-order happening in the near future. I have always thought the Sharknose was one of the better looking diesels of its era. I think Curt has one on his layout, and it caught my attention right away. I wish I could stick to my rules, it would be a lot easier in the wallet.

I´d do, if I could All I know, that the town Rhyd Ddu is pronounced something like "Rit Dee" and the letter "h" in Porthmadog is silent. Thank goodness, most of the folks there speak a decent English
I am also very much concerned about Jeff. I do hope he is chasing the nurses in a hospital, but somehow that queasy feeling in my stomach does not go away. Let´s hope our friend is on a way of recovery.

I´ll be calling it a day soon - no, I won´t go to bed right away, but stop siiting in front of my old `puter. I have been working on another translation all afternoon and my eyes have turned into squares. Good thing is, that the proceeds out of this will go directly into my MRRing budget. Diamondbacks lost yesterday's game but at least they didn't get waxed. I have decided spring training games are worth the price. First, they are much cheaper than tickets at the ballpark. Second, there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Hello everybodyI just phoned Jeff's Dad. .... Jeff is in the hospital. His infected toe was amputated. His Dad said Jeff should be home in a few days and back on the computer then. I told him to tell Jeff that all you were concerned, and he said Jeff will like hearing that. I will post here and in Coffee Shop of modelrailroadforums.com . Those belonging to the other forums where Jeff participates may relay this message....

I had a "sixth sense" that he and his toe had parted, but did not want to scare anyone by revealing that. Not much sense in saying that I am like Long island Medium and "see dead people", or in this case, dead toes.
Went to do some errands and to my Father's. He is well, and getting ready to Un-hibernate from winter's doldrums. He will go out Monday when it is decent and warm.
FIL wants us to go shopping Saturday for his car, but wnats us to bring the caravan? I wonder if he thinks he will get srap out of it and have his plates transferred then, and thusly need to put them on the Taurus? Dunno, he can be crafty like that. Around here they don't stay on craig's list long for $1k-$1500.
I wish I could donate the caravan to Jeffrey! But have no way to get it to him and I doubt I will drive clear down there, or that he can come get it. It has a sound engine, and is a daily driver for MOH, who for work puts some miles on it. I think he'd appreciate it and I am sure shipping costs would be prohibitive. ANyone have any ideas on how to do so??? I don't think its a possibility. Its got about 160K miles on her. I think she'll go another 40K easily as long as he doesn't mind the rust! I still don't htink it's possible, though to get it to him.
Well, dinner is catch as catch can as MOH ate out with work today.

Good to hear Jeff is still amongst us even sans big toe. Sounded bad and with the poor circulation you get with diabetes it's easy for the infection to spread even when you perform home surgery. We will add prayers for his speedy recovery. Thanks Garry for the information.

I got a bit of ballasting done today on the layout in between running errands, wash, and collecting photos to take with me tomorrow to meet with a guy on a project. That will happen after the Rules Class and the Basic Brake Class. Hopefully the Winter Storm Watch for tomorrow afternoon fizzles out....
Today got all the way up to 57°F out there. the sun was no help as it didn't even show up today.
Oh, I did get a half way decent photo of the Cannon Award I was presented last Wednesday Evening. It is large and the base measures 10" X 17". I have to find out what the tradition is with this. It looks like previous recipients have each added something to the award....

Tom- My problem is the fact I like numerous RR's. ThereforI have three or more different engines in each RR I have 48 powered locos. GN-4,FEC-7,B&M-2 and on and on. No Pennseys. Have D&RG Cookie cars but no engine.

Ready to join me in on today´s excursion on the Ffestiniog Railway? OK, let´s board the train and I will tell you a little tale of this truly extraordinary railway.
The Ffestiniog Railway is the oldest narrow gauge railway in the world. It was incorporated by an act of the British Parliament in 1832 and served the slate quarries in Blaenau Ffestiniog and Dinas. In the early years, horses were employed to pull empties uphill to Blaenau Ffestiniog, while the return trip with loaded slate cars was made just by gravity, as the right of way has a constant grade all the way from Blaenau Ffestiniog down to Porthmadog. Imagine a 13.5 mile ride on an open car, braked by 3 men sitting on the front, the rear and the middle car! What an adventure! Gravity trains are still run today - on special occasions. Watch this video, only seeing is believing! In 1863, steam power was introduced to pull the empties uphill with little 0-4-0 locos, out of which one is still in service, while another ones adornes the interior of Spooner´s bar in Porthmadog´s station building. The slate business was in full bloom in those days, as it was a preferred roofing material, especially in Germany. The increase in shipments via Porthmadog Harbour made it soon apparent, that the locos were not powerful enough to deal with the increase in traffic. Plans were made to establish a second track, but were soon given up, when Mr. Fairlie introduced his Fairlie Patent, double-boilered bogie loco in 1869. These locos proved to be a real success for the line. Though the first one on the line, appropriately named "Little Wonder" was scrapped, most of the original locos are still in operation and provide the main motive power for the railway. The outbreak of WW I meant an abrupt decline of the slate business, never to reach the same level again. Tourism developed in the 1920´s, providing a new source of revenue, but WW II put an end to that. Passenger services ceased in September 1939 and freight services were terminated in 1946. The original Act of Parliament which permitted the building of the line, made no specific provision for its closure or abandonment. Although the main line had ceased functioning, the company could not dismantle the railway, so the track and infrastructure were left in place. An amending Act of Parliament could have been sought to repeal the old one but the Company did not have the money. However, without maintenance, the line soon became overgrown and unusable. From 1949, various groups of rail enthusiasts attempted to revitalise the railway. In 1951, railway enthusiast Alan Pegler was approached by friends to buy and clear the outstanding debt on the derelict Ffestiniog Railway, to enable its purchase. Lent £3,000 by his father, he and the volunteers obtained control of the company on 24 June 1954. Pegler was appointed the new company's first Chairman, with the objective to operate the railway as a tourist attraction, and gradually restore the line to working order. Pegler later released complete control of the company without any personal financial gain to Ffestiniog Railway Trust, which still owns and runs the railway today. The Ffestiniog Railway thus became the first preserved railway in the world.

Ok, I didn't get right down to the trainroom (imagine that), but I did get down there. Didn't get much straightening up done either because well, I got a bit sidetracked. But the GOOD news is, it was because I saw alittle bit I could do on the project on the bench and then, when I decided to do some cleaning off of the layout, I got sidetracked and put some drywall mud on a few spots and added some cast rocks. THAT is why I like the premixed stuff! No mixing no waiting just open the lid and splooch!
Anyway, only spent a bout and hour and a half there but it was pretty good feeling. Figured I best stop and do something elsewhere......unless I find myself back down there again and THAT is a possibility.
Update from me. Looking at the mole today, it looks like it is actually a scab and it is healing up on it's own. There is a cut, and looks like it's healing up. I am still keeping the appointment, but I may have overreacted. But still, better safe than sorry.

Good to hear Jeff is getting the medical attention he needs.
Have a new wahing machine coming on Tuesday. Was going to get the combo but just couldnt bring myself to by somethign I dont need yet. I might replace the shutoffs to before hooking it up. The ones now look a little rough, but If I can get the old hoses off and the valves seem okay I may just replace the hoses and wait to replace the shutoffs. The hardest thing would be getting the old ones off. The guy before me used pipe dope on the threads. I figure If I cant get them off with a wrench I will use a little heat on them. Doesnt matter to the seals if there going to be replaced anyway.
I shall see.
Jeremy - If anything the pipe dope should make the job easier as the threads won't have had a chance to rust together. If you can find them up there in the great white north, the replacement hoses with the auto shut-off in them (shuts off if the hose ruptures) would do until you are sufficiently ambitious to change out the supply valves. I also used the stainless braided washer supply hoses last time. Just a couple of thoughts. J.R.
