HEY GREAT!
I just checked all my old links saved in favorite places to refer to threads psoted on here! They ARE connecting!
Used to be, every time they changed the format, you lost you links to saved threads!
Good to know!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
I find the format is quite similar to another set of forums started about four years ago by a fellow who use to be a contributor with Trains.com forums. Interesting.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Well, golly gee!
When I signed on earlier and got a "maintenace" statement, I had a sudden premonition and sneaky suspicion that something like this was about to happen!
Neil, I DON'T see a colored script or colored background option? CAN WE HAVE THAT BACK PLEASE???
SOMNE things look better and easier than others were on here . Maybe. COuld be?
We will all adapt I guess, some better and faster than others.
well, I guess I will venture on and try to adapt...
Oh, now it counts our words...do we have a limit to reach?
We should all be thankful it is forever free to be here!
Fix: It appears that the "Your Discussions" link is now working properly. It's also in the older format.

Is it a "glitch"?
Kidding of course. Seriously, I am thankful to Kalmbach for this forum and appreciate their efforts to maintain it and update it as needed.
Thanks, Kalmbach!

I'm ok with adjusting, understanding that has to happen occasionally. I do like the bottom green banner being gone, as the non-horizontal aspect of it (cutting off part of a line I might read) was a pet peeve.
I know it's a matter of opinion, but a non-white background would for me be easier to read. And I would prefer a somewhat smaller font, comparing the size in the New Products page, for instance, with the large main text here. The 2/3 page we read (subtrtacting the right hand column) makes for a lot more scrolling with the text size used.
And, again, we appreciate the forum!

Honestly I liked the old software better. The all white doesn't look that good. Also, Half the post seem to cut only showing the left side, so I can't see all the words, same with pictures. Is there a "full site", or was the mobile site done away with. There is no side bar, all of that is under the forum. I hate this spell check, it tries to delete your space, or if it changes a word and when you backspace, thworld in front of it gets added into the"wrong word" and it changes it towords I haven't seen before, that don't look like words, or it will take perfectly spelled words and make then a buch of random letters. When I try to tap the x to prevent it from changing the word, it no longer lets me type.

Train Modeler Soo Line fan The are gone and we now have the join date. A nice trade off I worked hard for those stars---LOL I'm OK with the join date as that along with the question helps me know something about experience level when replying. Great EDIT button. I just noticed that post counts are under the poster too. I like the shading for the area that is quoted as well. So far, no more annoying green bar and things work pretty well--it's actually pretty good. Richard

Yeah, I just broke 3,000 and got all my stars colored in last week. Enjoyed them while it lasted. Would kind of like to have something similar back, but it's not a dealbreaker if it doesn't happen.
What I would like to have is the ability to go directly to the last -- or any page -- of the longer posts. Looks like we still have to go to the first page of a thread and then navigate to the last page. Maybe it's intended to encourage new posts instead of rambling, but some of us are just long form people in a Twitter world.
One way to help if the white background is too intense is to adjust the brightness on the monitor.
OK, one more annoying thing. There used to be the same naviagation between forums and within the forum at the bottom of the page as the top. Like this:
That made it easy to simply go back to the specific forum or elsewhere after scrolling down to the bottom of the page. Sure, I can use the Back button, but this was handy and is missed.

Paul,
I understand what you are saying, but the reverse, may be true, for other people also.

Was surprised when logged on earlier this afternoon, just ran a scan and CCleaner, thought I wiped out something! Actually like the format, larger Font ( lots of "old" eyes peeking in). The location and join date back is a plus, helps sometimes in replying to a post (newbie and/ or area of OP)
The bottom of the page, is missing any "back to top" or forum redirection like the one at the top. You will have to scroll your way back to top.

Hi guys,
Relax. It's just new forum software that goes along with the new website. It's an off-the-shelf product, so there is no conspiracy as far as moving buttons, adding city names, and changing stars.
Personally, I'd like to keep things like the forum software the same, too. But that's not going to happen in our technology-driven world.
Thanks,

Click on the home link-the row of magazines at the top is at least two years old. Strange!
No search functions are working...
Ok now. I got some cheese to go with my Whine. Obvious Man told me, obviously, they don't care what the users want or don't want. They can go away if they don't like it.
MotleyI'm very glad they added the join date and locations back.
But nowhere can I enter where I am from...? My community profile doesn't allow me to.
MotleyI'm very glad they added the join date and locations back. I missed that info. They must be hearing us complain all the time.
I think for the most part the comments have been fairly civil. We're just pointing out what's different and what needs to be fixed (i.e. lost features, broken links) and I see that as a good and helpful thing; for both the users and the IT crew.

richhotrainWhen I click on "Your Discussions" on the right side under my screen name, I get a Server Error.
And all the other links are in the prior format, Rich. As mentioed, it appears that Kalmbach is doing this update sectionally and the MR forums are the initial experiment.
Test ramblings-feel free to disregard:
Odd thing is, when I try to post a link and change the text in the box to something, (I put "test" in the box above the URL, it puts the link as what I text next on the main page, and initially shows up blank. I was going to write "Odd this doesn't work". And it goes back to the top of the post. So apparently do emoticons. Note the "Odd: at the start of the sentance is a linkm but only shows up when hovered over. again, odd. And ti doen't autocorrect captialization or misspellings. Quote test
cacoleSo far, it's only the MR forums that have changed
Okay, so when I split quote things, they all don't pile up at the top anymore, that is nice, disregard quote above, it was a test. Emoitcon test. Note Emoticon spelled wrong, editor doesn't have spellcheck anymore. that is annoying. http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/225023.aspx
Now with text added: goes to top of page.
http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/225023.aspx. But when I copy and paste a link in, it is active. Good.
cacoleTrains and Garden Railways forums haven't (yet).
No, they haven't, and I'm not sure I want them to. The undo feature is nice, but this will take getting used to.
When I click on "Your Discussions" on the right side under my screen name, I get a Server Error.

OK, I now see an issue, comparing w/ the unchanged Trains forum - the old way, the comments column size was generally fixed in width, so that you could shrink the entire window size such that the right-side ad column would almost disappear (handy in certain situations). Now, the comments column size seems to shrink in width, and in a much larger proportion than the ad column.
What a nice mercenary move, Kalmbach...
Aww, cripes.
Now the green bar runs diagonally across the screen, my post count is zero, so I am being moderated, and they got my avatar wrong. That's the bad news.
They will not allow me to log out. I have to close the browser which I have configured to clear, cookies and all other on line data to log out.
Sounds like they are going in the direction of Microsoft.
They never checked out the new format first. Very poor programming. My stepson did this kind of work for some years and he said this was really bad.
G PaineI had thought ShowMe was on page 4 yesterday and it has 3 pages today. all the content appears to be there, so are there more replies per page??
George,
It looks like the number of posts per page has increasd to 30. (It was 15 before) With the prior format I think could change the number of posts per page. However, I don't see whether or not you can do that with this new format. It's possible that I'm thinking of another website though.
