Hi, Tom

I see your post above with the brass caboose photo. There is no reply or quick reply button available. Do You have an EDIT button available for you? I posted a new thread with photos attached and I can NOT edit my post. In an other reply without photos I DO have the EDIT button.

Are others having this problem too?

Thanks, Ed

I havenoticed that the right side of his post is cut off as well as the left half of the quick reply button, on his post.  That happens on some post, especially long ones and ones with pictures.  His post is one of the few where I can see the whole picture.

I have the edit button though on my post though, granted my post don't get the right side cut off.

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE THE OLD FORUM SYSTEM AND OLD WEBSITE SOFTWARE BACK PLEASE?  I would call this NEW SYSTEM a train wreck, but that would be unfair for the train wreck!

Hey Ed,

I've had no problems editing my own posts - with or w/o pictures.  So, yes - both the EDIT and the REPLY buttons are/have been available to me.

Must be something on your end. I see both. I checked other posts I've today and yesterday. All have an edit button available.

I hate this, not very friendly too I-Phones!!!  I like the old software that is still used on the Trains.com website. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!!!  I also don't like the MRR website part either, side bar is at bottom aNS it  is harder to navigate.  I like the old link line at the bottom of the forum as well. Some post in pictureshave the right side cut off, and either the reply bottom is partially shown, or completely off the screen.

It's not really a big deal, for me, but I noticed, that I keep fading, in and out, off users online. Big Smile

That happened in the previous version also so is no big thing. Mine's never on there as I removed it from the display list.

What is the new way to post pictures has that changed? Why do we need to have a "Source, Image Description, & Dimensions" We never needed to do all that before. Can someone please clue me in on how to post pictures?

Sam,

"Source" should just be the URL you'll need to post your picture.  The rest you shouldn't even need to bother with.  Okay, let's see if my hypothesis works...

Yep, it works.  I also left the "Constrain Proportions" check box checked, which is the default.

ust noticed something else, CNTR-V does not work for Paste. Need to select Edit/Paste from the toolbar. It highlighted what I had typed and overwrote it with the paste. Now to see if the link will work

I just used the <right click - Paste> on my mouse and it worked fine. I also used the CTRL-V to post and it worked fine.

What I wish would have disappeared with the new format upgrade was the "Where is the MR Anniversary Boxcars?" forum.  While I guess it still gets a number of views, it's anything but active.  The last three posts were recorded 2, 3, and 10 months ago, respectively.  Whatever...

Relax. Have a Coffee ...or maybe even a breakfast Beer...Wink

I think the time travel problem was related to the post being open during the transition to the new software. No more time travel when I did an experimental bump this morning.

I'll try the link one more time to see if it's working yet:

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/219241.aspx?page=1

I also noticed that the navigation within the thread itself is now at the bottom of the page. It gives "0" and "-1" page numbers as options...maybe time travel isn't totally disabled...HmmmmHmm

It's an off-the-shelf product.  With all due respect, why not return the product?  It is so bug filled as to be laughable.  If I had downloaded this software on my computer, I would quickly uninstall it and remove all traces from my registry.  I think our forum is now infected with malware.

Yes, it is a joke. Super Angry I had to use IE so the quote feature would work. When I try using FF, I get a javascript void error. I hate not being able to go to the last post. I do not mind using new software or learning to do things a different way, that is to be expected. But I do mind using buggy quirky software when the previous version worked okay.

Its called an upgrade for a reason. Dead

Another whinge, when changing from italics or bold to normal font, the previous text reverts to what I am changing too. Angry I'm using Windows Vista and Google Chrome, if it's worth anything. Cheers, the Bear.

Bear,

I'm using Firefox 25 and Windows XP right now and I'm not experiencing what you're experiencing.  At home I have Firefox 25 and Windows 8 and get the same result.  Time to "upgrade to XP". Big Smile

Trying your clickable link: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/219241.aspx?page=2...Nope - Not me either.  At least the older one in my signature is still working.

So far, I have not had any problem's, making my link clickable, only trying other's.

Cheers,

I haven't seen this complaint so far in this thread so here goes my new whine:

My computer used to stay logged on to the MR website, at least in that when I logged in my name came up most of the time. Today, I seem to have to log in every time I return to the forum. PITA!

I am going to honour Neil's request to relax and wait for them to work the bugs out. However, if I ever become a multi-billionaire I will make it my purpose in life to squash every IT manager who justifies his or her existance by changing things just because they can. For heaven's sake if you are going to make a change then get it right! If you don't fully understand the implications of the change you are going to make then don't make the bloody change! OH dear, I said I would relax. My bad.

Today was a triple whammy for me. MR decided to screw up their format and the Canadian Rogers Yahoo Mail site decided to do the same thing! Then I couldn't send important e-mails to several of my relatives because of another system botch up. GRRRRR!!!

OK Neil - I'm trying to relax but it isn't working. I think I'm going to have another drink.

Dave

Early on in this thread, Neil Besougloff, editor of MR magazine said to relax, that it's just new forum software that goes along with the new website. It's an off-the-shelf product.  With all due respect, why not return the product?  It is so bug filled as to be laughable.  If I had downloaded this software on my computer, I would quickly uninstall it and remove all traces from my registry.  I think our forum is now infected with malware.

OK, now here's a weird problem. I just did an update on my Cascade Branch thread. You can read it here: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/219241.aspx?page=2

Gidday Mike. I managed to get there by highlighting the address, right clicking, and choosing the go to option. Am just going to see if I can make your link clickable. I am slightly confused, Confused not that hard to do actually, did you actually manage to update your thread or am I thinking of a previous WPF ?

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/219241.aspx?page=2      EDIT. Didn't Work !!!Sigh

No, mlehman, the link did not work for me.

Another thing I found i don't like is that at least when I posted a new thread on the bottom of a page, it used to give me a "tool bar" with the forum choices links at the bottom of the page. Now I have to scroll back to the top to get to it.

you know the: Home>> Model Railroader>>Forums>>general discussion(Model Railroader)  YEAH, THAT link line!

There may be some other way of doing so, but I sure don't know it, and relied on the links at the bottom of the page!

Not sure if the link will work. Another I tried to make elsewhere didn't so...

Anyway, I made my update, then went back to the 1st page of General Disc to see the updated thread.

Nothing.

Went back to thread. The new comment is showing, but it shows I made it back in October!Alien

So this new software is apparently equipped for time travel. Better let your loved ones know, just in case you disappear into another dimension while logged on here.Oops - Sign

What I did was simply use the reply to button for the last comment, then edited it out the text that I somehow inadvertently quoted while hitting reply, then wrote my new update comment. I posted it and -- POOF! -- we're back in October.

You've been warned.

I will note that I've had that window open since before the update today, so it may have been some weird cookie interaction due to that...Huh?

I liked the old system better.  However, I have noticed that the site now works much better on my Android mobile device.  So possibly the reason for swicthing to different software was to be more compatiable with tablets and mobile devices?

In quick reply tyhe box it refers to is a tiny box within the box with the instructions. On my computer it's anything but 'quick'. I have no problem with the standard reply box. I type my reply, scroll down and click 'Submit Your Reply' and it's done.
