quote user="richhotrain"]

It's an off-the-shelf product.  With all due respect, why not return the product?  It is so bug filled as to be laughable.  If I had downloaded this software on my computer, I would quickly uninstall it and remove all traces from my registry.  I think our forum is now infected with malware.

Thanks Rich, I almost spit my coffee on my laptop. Laugh

Yes, it is a joke. Super Angry I had to use IE so the quote feature would work. When I try using FF, I get a javascript void error. I hate not being able to go to the last post. I do not mind using new software or learning to do things a different way, that is to be expected. But I do mind using buggy quirky software when the previous version worked okay.

Its called an upgrade for a reason. Dead

Relax. Have a Coffee ...or maybe even a breakfast Beer...Wink

I think the time travel problem was related to the post being open during the transition to the new software. No more time travel when I did an experimental bump this morning.

I'll try the link one more time to see if it's working yet:

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/219241.aspx?page=1

I also noticed that the navigation within the thread itself is now at the bottom of the page. It gives "0" and "-1" page numbers as options...maybe time travel isn't totally disabled...HmmmmHmm

What I wish would have disappeared with the new format upgrade was the "Where is the MR Anniversary Boxcars?" forum.  While I guess it still gets a number of views, it's anything but active.  The last three posts were recorded 2, 3, and 10 months ago, respectively.  Whatever...

What is the new way to post pictures has that changed? Why do we need to have a   "Source, Image Description, & Dimensions"  We never needed to do all that before. Can someone please clue me in on how to post pictures?

  Thanks Guys

ust noticed something else, CNTR-V does not work for Paste. Need to select Edit/Paste from the toolbar. It highlighted what I had typed and overwrote it with the paste. Now to see if the link will work

I just used the <right click - Paste> on my mouse and it worked fine. I also used the CTRL-V to post and it worked fine.

Sam,

"Source" should just be the URL you'll need to post your picture.  The rest you shouldn't even need to bother with.  Okay, let's see if my hypothesis works...

Yep, it works.  I also left the "Constrain Proportions" check box checked, which is the default.

It's not really a big deal, for me, but I noticed, that I keep fading, in and out, off users online. Big Smile

That happened in the previous version also so is no big thing. Mine's never on there as I removed it from the display list.

I hate this, not very friendly too I-Phones!!!  I like the old software that is still used on the Trains.com website. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!!!  I also don't like the MRR website part either, side bar is at bottom aNS it  is harder to navigate.  I like the old link line at the bottom of the forum as well. Some post in pictureshave the right side cut off, and either the reply bottom is partially shown, or completely off the screen.

Hi, Tom

I see your post above with the brass caboose photo. There is no reply or quick reply button available. Do You have an EDIT button available for you? I posted a new thread with photos attached and I can NOT edit my post. In an other reply without photos I DO have the EDIT button.

Are others having this problem too?

Thanks, Ed

Must be something on your end. I see both. I checked other posts I've today and yesterday. All have an edit button available.

Hey Ed,

I've had no problems editing my own posts - with or w/o pictures.  So, yes - both the EDIT and the REPLY buttons are/have been available to me.

I havenoticed that the right side of his post is cut off as well as the left half of the quick reply button, on his post.  That happens on some post, especially long ones and ones with pictures.  His post is one of the few where I can see the whole picture.

I have the edit button though on my post though, granted my post don't get the right side cut off.

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE THE OLD FORUM SYSTEM AND OLD WEBSITE SOFTWARE BACK PLEASE?  I would call this NEW SYSTEM a train wreck, but that would be unfair for the train wreck!

I was having that cutoff problem yesterday. It stopped when I readjusted the screen size downward.

Neil

Any chance of us older eyed people being able to expand and enlarge the text on an iPad. Seems a rigid format.tex is about a number four font.  Maybe I am missing something on expanding the screen.

Thanks for checking .

Well, I tried looking at this with an open mind.
I have a laptop as my main PC, it's a bigg'n with a 17" display & full keyboard.
When I saw the new format, I thought 'Oh Great, another one thinks we all have Mobile devices now."

I strictly use IE & do not load all the freeware out there, therefore; I could not even log on until I was forced to download Chrome. So much for a 'thin' system.

I have over 23 years in IT, primarily Server/Data Center ops, I run minimal installs, in lieu of minimal threat.
Now I need all these extra's to even navigate this site.

Personally; I have a difficult, time consuming job now, when I joined I was unemployeed & could actually focus on modelling. Now I am not able to turn out models, or even attempt the level of quality I was doing when I did NOT have the added stresses of a demanding Job.
This is the real driver for this message, not the site change....
Many of you may have noticed my lack of participation in the last year, & if you enjoyed it, I apologize.... Sincerely.
If you didn't I have good news..

I'm going to 'check out' for a bit.

I really appreciate the things I have learned here, with both the positive & the few rare negatives.
I have made some good contacts that I call friends, & we have shared tips & great techniques, you all know who you are. I thank you very much!

I thank you all, & really hope for the best for all of you, & your modelling endevors.

Take Care,   Chad

One thing I'm not crazy about is that there isn't much distinction between the post area, and the area for the signature.  It makes the signature look like part of the post.

First off, thanks for the mark all read button.  It is greatly appreciated.

secon, if I view the page in IE I can reply to a topic.  Using Firefox 25.0.1 0n Win 8.1 here's what I get:

I get the same thing with all add-ons disable (Firefox Safe Mode)

Hi

I have also discovered this:

If I highlite ONE WORD {or name} to be "Bold header-ed" under format for emphisis or to catch attention, it tends to bold header the whole sentence!

FOr instance I cannto get it do this:

John{bold headered}: {not bold headered} you have a PM

It will then bold header the WHOLE " John: you have a PM" instead of just John's name!

It comes out like this:

John: you have a PM

I don't WANT the whole thing to be emphasized sometimes!

I hope this makes sense.

Thank You MR!

Neil B. wrote the following post 2 days ago:

Hi guys,

Relax. It's just new forum software that goes along with the new website. It's an off-the-shelf product, so there is no conspiracy as far as moving buttons, adding city names, and changing stars.

Personally, I'd like to keep things like the forum software the same, too. But that's not going to happen in our technology-driven world.

Thanks,

Neil Besougloff

editor

A thought just crossed my mind about Neil's comment.

If this new forum software is an off the shelf product, then someone had to take some time tweaking it to map the various features on the forum, of which there are many.   I have a feeling that someone took the Quick Start approach just to get it up and running, leaving a lot of default options in place.  Seriously, that would explain a heck of a lot of the screw ups being identified on this thread.

I would love to hear back from Neil on this issue.

What is the point of "Quick Reply?"  The only advantage I see is that the font in the normal Reply box is N-scale, while I can at least read the font in Quick Reply.  (No offense meant to N-scale readers, but I've got HO eyes.)

In Quick Reply, you lose the ability to change fonts, insert picturres and links, quote, and most important, to organize your post into paragraphs.  Even if you do it with the Enter key and lay it out the way you want it, when the post goes up everything ends up run together.

Quick Reply is no faster than Reply, at least on my system.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
