I noticed a couple of hours of downtime, then this.

Paragraphs do not work in "Quick Reply" mode.

Quotes don't seem to work at all.

The little pencil has been replaced with a real Edit button.

The font in normal Reply mode is N scale, while the font in Quick Reply is in HO Bold.

But, the annoying green pop-up is gone.  For this I am truly grateful.

At the bottom, the Edit, Reply and Quick reply buton placement is inconsistent.  On one of my posts, they were properly right justified in frame.  On another, the Quick Reply button was shifted almost completely out of the window.

For reference, this machine is Windows 7 and I'm using IE 8 on it.

Under the avatars, I now see home town and state information.  I think that was missing from the previous forum software.  I think it's useful, so thanks for that.

I was able to edit this post to correct my shoddy spelling.

There's also no way of knowning when a thread was started from a particular forum page.  You actually have to view the first page of the specific thread to determine that.

Design of Experiments I:  See if the mis-located buttons are related to the insertion of a picture:

Yes, there is much to be said for realistic prototype modeling.

And for experimentation.  The buttons are correctly located for all my posts, except the two posts where I inserted pictures.  Isn't science wonderful.

Later Edit:  The above is true of IE8 on my Windows 7 machine at work.  However, things look just fine on my XP machine at home running Firefox.

I just posted a reply on ShowMe and noticed a couple of things

I had thought ShowMe was on page 4 yesterday and it has 3 pages today. all the content appears to be there, so are there more replies per page??

When I posted me reply, some of the words on the right margin went off the page, it does not seem to be doing it here, so something with the picture format? I noticed the same on a couple of other ShowMe replies with pictures, but not all.

At least the post counts appear to be about right! Smile

Looks like Kalmbach is still working on some tweaks.  My "Your Discussion" link displays the following:

The resource cannot be found.

I also don't see any ability to change font color or size.

Great EDIT button.  I just noticed that post counts are under the poster too.    I like the shading for the area that is quoted as well.  So far, no more annoying green bar and things work pretty well--it's actually pretty good.

This is terrible. Reminds me of Yahoo and Facebook. The techies love messing with the users. I bet they are rolling in the aisles over this format. No more indication of incorrect spelling.

I'm using Firefox 25.0.1 and Windows 8 and both the quote feature (highlighting the text you want in the quote and clicking the "Add Quote to your Post" button above the Post Body) and pasting (Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V) work fine for me.

George,

It looks like the number of posts per page has increasd to 30.  (It was 15 before)  With the prior format I think could change the number of posts per page.  However, I don't see whether or not you can do that with this new format.  It's possible that I'm thinking of another website though.

They will not allow me to log out. I have to close the browser which I have configured to clear, cookies and all other on line data to log out.

Sounds like they are going in the direction of Microsoft.

They never checked out the new format first. Very poor programming. My stepson did this kind of work for some years and he said this was really bad.

OK, I now see an issue, comparing w/ the unchanged Trains forum - the old way, the comments column size was generally fixed in width, so that you could shrink the entire window size such that the right-side ad column would almost disappear (handy in certain situations). Now, the comments column size seems to shrink in width, and in a much larger proportion than the ad column.

What a nice mercenary move, Kalmbach...

Off TopicTest ramblings-feel free to disregard:

Dots - SignOdd thing is, when I try to post a link and change the text in the box to something, (I put "test" in the box above the URL, it puts the link as what I text next on the main page, and initially shows up blank. I was going to write "Odd this doesn't work". And it goes back to the top of the post. Bang Head So apparently do emoticons. Note the "Odd: at the start of the sentance is a linkm but only shows up when hovered over. again, odd. And ti doen't autocorrect captialization or misspellings.  Quote test

Okay, so when I split quote things, they all don't pile up at the top anymore, that is nice, disregard quote above, it was a test.  Question Emoitcon test. Note Emoticon spelled wrong, editor doesn't have spellcheck anymore. that is annoying.  http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/225023.aspx

Now with text added:   goes to top of page.

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/225023.aspx. But when I copy and paste a link in, it is active. Good.

I think for the most part the comments have been fairly civil.  We're just pointing out what's different and what needs to be fixed (i.e. lost features, broken links) and I see that as a good and helpful thing; for both the users and the IT crew.

Hi guys,

Relax. It's just new forum software that goes along with the new website. It's an off-the-shelf product, so there is no conspiracy as far as moving buttons, adding city names, and changing stars.

Personally, I'd like to keep things like the forum software the same, too. But that's not going to happen in our technology-driven world.

Thanks,

Was surprised when logged on earlier this afternoon, just ran a scan and CCleaner, thought I wiped out something!  Actually like the format, larger Font ( lots of "old" eyes peeking in). The location and join date back is a plus, helps sometimes in replying to a post (newbie and/ or area of OP)

The bottom of the page, is missing any "back to top" or forum redirection like the one at the top. You will have to scroll your way back to top.

Yeah, I just broke 3,000 and got all my stars colored in last week. Enjoyed them while it lasted. Would kind of like to have something similar back, but it's not a dealbreaker if it doesn't happen.

What I would like to have is the ability to go directly to the last -- or any page -- of the longer posts. Looks like we still have to go to the first page of a thread and then navigate to the last page. Maybe it's intended to encourage new posts instead of rambling, but some of us are just long form people in a Twitter world.

One way to help if the white background is too intense is to adjust the brightness on the monitor.

OK, one more annoying thing. There used to be the same naviagation between forums and within the forum at the bottom of the page as the top. Like this:

That made it easy to simply go back to the specific forum or elsewhere after scrolling down to the bottom of the page. Sure, I can use the Back button, but this was handy and is missed.

Honestly I liked the old software better.  The all white doesn't look that good.  Also, Half the post seem to cut only showing the left side, so I can't see all the words, same with pictures.  Is there a "full site", or was the mobile site done away with.  There is no side bar, all of that is under the forum.  I hate this spell check, it tries to delete your space, or if it changes a word and when you backspace, thworld in front of it gets added into the"wrong word" and it changes it towords I haven't seen before, that don't look like words, or it will take perfectly spelled words and make then a buch of random letters.  When I try to tap the x to prevent it from changing the word, it no longer lets me type.

I'm ok with adjusting, understanding that has to happen occasionally.  I do like the bottom green banner being gone, as the non-horizontal aspect of it (cutting off part of a line I might read) was a pet peeve.

I know it's a matter of opinion, but a non-white background would for me be easier to read.  And I would prefer a somewhat smaller font, comparing the size in the New Products page, for instance, with the large main text here.  The 2/3 page we read (subtrtacting the right hand column) makes for a lot more scrolling with the text size used.

And, again, we appreciate the forum!

Wow I'm blind!    I really hate these website updates.  Seems like we always loose all the cool features and gain stuff that is umm umm of questionable value.   Of course last time the value of the most popular tag composite was something lost because someone messed with it manually....so can't blame that on software upgrade.  I see it seems to be totally missing now.

Can not find a font size button or anything.

Can I do it with embedded HTML?   Yup that works.  Well it works in preview but not when the message posts.  Another feature lost.

If the insert image works like it looks like it might that will be a major improvement.  Try... try... try...   image should be here    Nope it doesn't.  It isn't a real image insert it is an image URL insert just like before - sigh.

The time on each post is stuck on central time without an option to change it. Will all the other forums change, too?

Thanks for the new updated format.  The response is much better on my old computer and I am able to move to new subjects much faster.  A great improvement, in my opinion (as if anyone gives a durn!)

Well, just like any other web site, the "techies" and those that come up with this stuff need to justify their jobs, by constantly changing things to what THEY think is better.  So they can go to the boss and say..."see, isn't this cool?"  "Look what we did!"  "We are so cool.....they NEED us...."

Two complaints from me.....  (Usually there have been more!)

1.  You can't go directly to the last post in a thread.  You now have to go to the first post then click on the button to reverse the order of the thread and do things backward...  Pain!

2.  If you let your curser accidentally move over the black bar at the top just below the nerdy looking guy leaning on sonething, it pulls down a large thingy with all kinds of useless info for you to figure out how to get out of....  Or move your curser half way down the page for it to magically disapear... How about making that something you have to click on to make show up?

If you notice a bug and comment on it as a helpful note to the techies, include your OS and browser.  I've already found things that work better on Firefox than on IE.

But, of course, almost everything works better on Firefox than on IE, right?

It seems like the larger post run off the screen, I can't see the text on the right side, only the left one.  Iabsolutely hate the spell check, it seems like it is to make nonsense words, and put several words together.  I also miss the links on the bottom, it helpEd get back to thetoo pic easily.  Also is there a mobile site and a full site?  If so how do I get to the full site?  Also the side bar is now at thebottom of the page.  really wish they will switch it back. Did I mention I HATE THE SPELL CHECK, IT DOESN'T WORK!!!

The bottom of the page, is missing any "back to top" or forum redirection like the one at the top. You will have to scroll your way back to top.

Oh but there is a preview. Bottom of the toolbar. The magnifying glass icon next to the smiley icon. However when I click it I get a 'Group Not Found' message, so it's totally worthless.

2. Yes, this is especially irritating. The navigation menu for the entire MR website pops up way too easy, as it's a big fat bar with huge font.

On the other hand, the Forum navigation menu just below it is in tiny font and a hard target to hit because it is so.

Maybe it's just a font size issue? Or a Firefox one (FF 25.0.1 in use here.)

This is an even bigger problem because of the length of posts on the page and no Forum navigation or Back to the Top at the bottom of the page as I and othrs mentioned earlier.

Also note that if you post a reply in a thread, you can't just use Backspace to navigate as you may end up with a double-posting if you're not careful, another irriattion with the lack of what's mentioned above.

Mike,

I have been going, around, the black bar, from the left side, or if I want to go through the bar, I do it fast, no hessitation and it works all the time. I also, have been using,my return fuction,to go back to the top,or to another thread. Works fine for me that way, a lot of other forums, I'm on,do it that way, so I guess, I am used to it.

As far as a spell checker, I'm not certain, but there may not be one. At least I could not find it.

Neil is right, expect change and with that change there will always be a re-inventing of the wheel.   Even though the wheel's design was pretty much "Hashed-Out" a while back, technology forces it's re-re-re-invention regularly.

I'm using Firefox. I've come across some problems concerning this new setup.

New things for the complaint list:

Email notification isn't working, at least not for PM's so far as I know. Probably not for other stuff either. When I click 'Email notifications' in my profile I get an error.

I can't log out. Even if I wanted to I can't do it. I tried and all I got was a server error. Looks like I'm stuck here. Good thing I use 'tab' browsing.

This format carries over into archived copy - and therein I found a major rub.

A while back I spent the best part of an hour putting together a 'sort of' sketch of my benchwork design, using punctuation marks.  The new format narrowed the field - and ground that diagram into meaningless hamburger.  Bummer,,,

That's usually the way it is.  The system I work most closely with for a living can be tested for months on end, and let them release it to the sites who use it and we get trouble reports starting almost immediately.  Sometimes, those sites fall off and back to the old release.  Running any software in "live mode" always exposes bugs.

Or, as somebody once said, "just when you think you have idiot-proofed your software, somebody designs a better idiot."

Last week I installed all the patches from Microsoft on my laptop, including IE 11.  It appeared half the desktop gadgets were gone, with one being there but in a blurry pink color.  Turns out IE11 creates a problem when the display magnification in Windows (at least Windows 7, maybe others) is set to something other than 100%.  I have seen nothing to rival that with the new forum.

I'm using Firefox 25.0.1 on the Windows 7 with all patches current and have had no technical problems I can see.  The ability to jump to the last post in a thread would be appreciated.  Somebody said the new look is clean, and I agree with that.  Somebody also mentioned they thought the search function works better.  That would be a big help.

Okay. This is a little scary. Reminds me way too much off my employer. Make a major change...don't tell anyone...then when something goes wrong or no one knows...wham! Send them to the umemployment office.

Glad  I can't become unemployed being away from this forum for 2 days...or was Model Railroader mag just bought out by my employer? Hmmm!?

Thought I was on the wrong site when I first logged on this morning.

Read some, then decided I should have my morning coffee before tackling anthing that would take brain power or logic to complete.

Came back, looked around some,

Decided that this would be a two coffee morning

Another complaint: Messages tab doesn't highlight to let you know you have messages.

I also used to get a email that alerted me to the fact that I had a private message and I could actually read it on the email or read it on here. That feature seems gone too?

I got neither a notice here that I had a message, nor an email alert. How is one to know they have a PM messagge?

I have the same, experience, no e-mail alert and don't know I have a New message, unless,I click on it. Sent Motley, a message,he replied at 1:51 and I  did not know, until now when  I clicked on new messages.

Cheers,

First clue for me was my MRR favorites link was dead. Was a new link really necessary to change the format? This is definitely going to take some getting used to....which exacerbates the zero MR heads up of the forum change before the fact....

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE IS NO SPELL CHECK???  Are you on the same forum as me???

Gidday Kyle, I think I must be, otherwise how did you quote me??? Smile, Wink & Grin I'm with Galaxy on this one, if there is a spell check function, then it ain't working for me. Not that it matters too much, I will just not have to be so lazy.Zzz

Bheers, teh Cear.

Maybe it is because I am using an I-Phone (with the IOS-6, I hate the IOS-7 when I see it on other peoples phones), but it just comes up as I am typing.

Also, the pictures you guys are posting are going off the side of the screen so I can't the right side.  A few of the longer post are also being spilt in half so I can't read them.

A couple more things: When I hit the return key the quick reply box shows the proper format but it's all run together when the post is displayed. The edit function works the same as the reply button i.e. the screen says post your reply below but no text box appears. I'm using the latest version of Firefox on Win8.1 Tom

In quick reply tyhe box it refers to is a tiny box within the box with the instructions. On my computer it's anything but 'quick'. I have no problem with the standard reply box. I type my reply, scroll down and click 'Submit Your Reply' and it's done.

I liked the old system better.  However, I have noticed that the site now works much better on my Android mobile device.  So possibly the reason for swicthing to different software was to be more compatiable with tablets and mobile devices?

OK, now here's a weird problem. I just did an update on my Cascade Branch thread. You can read it here:

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/219241.aspx?page=2

Not sure if the link will work. Another I tried to make elsewhere didn't so...

Anyway, I made my update, then went back to the 1st page of General Disc to see the updated thread.

Nothing.

Went back to thread. The new comment is showing, but it shows I made it back in October!Alien

So this new software is apparently equipped for time travel. Better let your loved ones know, just in case you disappear into another dimension while logged on here.Oops - Sign

What I did was simply use the reply to button for the last comment, then edited it out the text that I somehow inadvertently quoted while hitting reply, then wrote my new update comment. I posted it and -- POOF! -- we're back in October.

You've been warned.

I will note that I've had that window open since before the update today, so it may have been some weird cookie interaction due to that...Huh?

No, mlehman, the link did not work for me.

Another thing I found i don't like is that at least when I posted a new thread on the bottom of a page, it used to give me a "tool bar" with the forum choices links at the bottom of the page. Now I have to scroll back to the top to get to it.

you know the: Home>> Model Railroader>>Forums>>general discussion(Model Railroader)  YEAH, THAT link line!

There may be some other way of doing so, but I sure don't know it, and relied on the links at the bottom of the page!

Gidday Mike. I managed to get there by highlighting the address, right clicking, and choosing the go to option. Am just going to see if I can make your link clickable. I am slightly confused, Confused not that hard to do actually, did you actually manage to update your thread or am I thinking of a previous WPF ?

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/219241.aspx?page=2      EDIT. Didn't Work !!!Sigh

Another whinge, when changing from italics or bold to normal font, the previous text reverts to what I am changing too. Angry

I'm using Windows Vista and Google Chrome, if it's worth anything.

Cheers, the Bear.

Early on in this thread, Neil Besougloff, editor of MR magazine said to relax, that it's just new forum software that goes along with the new website. It's an off-the-shelf product.  With all due respect, why not return the product?  It is so bug filled as to be laughable.  If I had downloaded this software on my computer, I would quickly uninstall it and remove all traces from my registry.  I think our forum is now infected with malware.

I haven't seen this complaint so far in this thread so here goes my new whine:

My computer used to stay logged on to the MR website, at least in that when I logged in my name came up most of the time. Today, I seem to have to log in every time I return to the forum. PITA!

I am going to honour Neil's request to relax and wait for them to work the bugs out. However, if I ever become a multi-billionaire I will make it my purpose in life to squash every IT manager who justifies his or her existance by changing things just because they can. For heaven's sake if you are going to make a change then get it right! If you don't fully understand the implications of the change you are going to make then don't make the bloody change! OH dear, I said I would relax. My bad.

Today was a triple whammy for me. MR decided to screw up their format and the Canadian Rogers Yahoo Mail site decided to do the same thing! Then I couldn't send important e-mails to several of my relatives because of another system botch up. GRRRRR!!!

OK Neil - I'm trying to relax but it isn't working. I think I'm going to have another drink.

Dave

I'm using Firefox 25 and Windows XP right now and I'm not experiencing what you're experiencing.  At home I have Firefox 25 and Windows 8 and get the same result.  Time to "upgrade to XP". Big Smile

Yes, it is a joke. Super Angry I had to use IE so the quote feature would work. When I try using FF, I get a javascript void error. I hate not being able to go to the last post. I do not mind using new software or learning to do things a different way, that is to be expected. But I do mind using buggy quirky software when the previous version worked okay.

Relax. Have a Coffee ...or maybe even a breakfast Beer...Wink

I think the time travel problem was related to the post being open during the transition to the new software. No more time travel when I did an experimental bump this morning.

I'll try the link one more time to see if it's working yet:

http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/219241.aspx?page=1

I also noticed that the navigation within the thread itself is now at the bottom of the page. It gives "0" and "-1" page numbers as options...maybe time travel isn't totally disabled...HmmmmHmm

What I wish would have disappeared with the new format upgrade was the "Where is the MR Anniversary Boxcars?" forum.  While I guess it still gets a number of views, it's anything but active.  The last three posts were recorded 2, 3, and 10 months ago, respectively.  Whatever...

ust noticed something else, CNTR-V does not work for Paste. Need to select Edit/Paste from the toolbar. It highlighted what I had typed and overwrote it with the paste. Now to see if the link will work

I just used the <right click - Paste> on my mouse and it worked fine. I also used the CTRL-V to post and it worked fine.

Sam,

"Source" should just be the URL you'll need to post your picture.  The rest you shouldn't even need to bother with.  Okay, let's see if my hypothesis works...

Yep, it works.  I also left the "Constrain Proportions" check box checked, which is the default.

I hate this, not very friendly too I-Phones!!!  I like the old software that is still used on the Trains.com website. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!!!  I also don't like the MRR website part either, side bar is at bottom aNS it  is harder to navigate.  I like the old link line at the bottom of the forum as well. Some post in pictureshave the right side cut off, and either the reply bottom is partially shown, or completely off the screen.

Hi, Tom

I see your post above with the brass caboose photo. There is no reply or quick reply button available. Do You have an EDIT button available for you? I posted a new thread with photos attached and I can NOT edit my post. In an other reply without photos I DO have the EDIT button.

Are others having this problem too?

I havenoticed that the right side of his post is cut off as well as the left half of the quick reply button, on his post.  That happens on some post, especially long ones and ones with pictures.  His post is one of the few where I can see the whole picture.

I have the edit button though on my post though, granted my post don't get the right side cut off.

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE THE OLD FORUM SYSTEM AND OLD WEBSITE SOFTWARE BACK PLEASE?  I would call this NEW SYSTEM a train wreck, but that would be unfair for the train wreck!

Neil

Any chance of us older eyed people being able to expand and enlarge the text on an iPad. Seems a rigid format.tex is about a number four font.  Maybe I am missing something on expanding the screen.

Thanks for checking .

i just sent my first post with the new format.  Much easier than with the former one with a iPad which is my preferate tool for forums. Nice with the iPhone too.

Well, I tried looking at this with an open mind.
I have a laptop as my main PC, it's a bigg'n with a 17" display & full keyboard.
When I saw the new format, I thought 'Oh Great, another one thinks we all have Mobile devices now."

I strictly use IE & do not load all the freeware out there, therefore; I could not even log on until I was forced to download Chrome. So much for a 'thin' system.

I have over 23 years in IT, primarily Server/Data Center ops, I run minimal installs, in lieu of minimal threat.
Now I need all these extra's to even navigate this site.

Personally; I have a difficult, time consuming job now, when I joined I was unemployeed & could actually focus on modelling. Now I am not able to turn out models, or even attempt the level of quality I was doing when I did NOT have the added stresses of a demanding Job.
This is the real driver for this message, not the site change....
Many of you may have noticed my lack of participation in the last year, & if you enjoyed it, I apologize.... Sincerely.
If you didn't I have good news..

I'm going to 'check out' for a bit.

I really appreciate the things I have learned here, with both the positive & the few rare negatives.
I have made some good contacts that I call friends, & we have shared tips & great techniques, you all know who you are. I thank you very much!

I thank you all, & really hope for the best for all of you, & your modelling endevors.

Take Care,   Chad

One thing I'm not crazy about is that there isn't much distinction between the post area, and the area for the signature.  It makes the signature look like part of the post.

First off, thanks for the mark all read button.  It is greatly appreciated.

secon, if I view the page in IE I can reply to a topic.  Using Firefox 25.0.1 0n Win 8.1 here's what I get:

I get the same thing with all add-ons disable (Firefox Safe Mode)

Hi

I have also discovered this:

If I highlite ONE WORD {or name} to be "Bold header-ed" under format for emphisis or to catch attention, it tends to bold header the whole sentence!

FOr instance I cannto get it do this:

John{bold headered}: {not bold headered} you have a PM

It will then bold header the WHOLE " John: you have a PM" instead of just John's name!

It comes out like this:

John: you have a PM

I don't WANT the whole thing to be emphasized sometimes!

I hope this makes sense.

Thank You MR!

Neil B. wrote the following post 2 days ago:

Hi guys,

Relax. It's just new forum software that goes along with the new website. It's an off-the-shelf product, so there is no conspiracy as far as moving buttons, adding city names, and changing stars.

Personally, I'd like to keep things like the forum software the same, too. But that's not going to happen in our technology-driven world.

Thanks,

Neil Besougloff

editor

A thought just crossed my mind about Neil's comment.

If this new forum software is an off the shelf product, then someone had to take some time tweaking it to map the various features on the forum, of which there are many.   I have a feeling that someone took the Quick Start approach just to get it up and running, leaving a lot of default options in place.  Seriously, that would explain a heck of a lot of the screw ups being identified on this thread.

I would love to hear back from Neil on this issue.

What is the point of "Quick Reply?"  The only advantage I see is that the font in the normal Reply box is N-scale, while I can at least read the font in Quick Reply.  (No offense meant to N-scale readers, but I've got HO eyes.)

In Quick Reply, you lose the ability to change fonts, insert picturres and links, quote, and most important, to organize your post into paragraphs.  Even if you do it with the Enter key and lay it out the way you want it, when the post goes up everything ends up run together.

Quick Reply is no faster than Reply, at least on my system.

That's weird, Tom.  I'm running the exact same thing as you (newest Firefox and Windows 8.1) and the text box has always shown up in the Post Body for me.

Just a suggestion.  You might try clearing out your browser history (press History then Clear Recent History) and cache (press Tools/Options/Advanced tab then Clear Now under Cache Web Content) in the tool bar at the top of your browser to see if that helps.  Can't hurt if you haven't done it in a while.

You can also download and install CCleaner, which is FREE.  It will do all that and clean up the registry on your computer.

The 'Quick Reply' is a bad joke!Dead I'm on an old computer (built before 2005) and therefore running Firefox 25 under WinXP Home. It takes longer for me to bring up the quick reply box than the standard reply box. There's nothing quick about it except the name.

I haven't read through the entire thread, so this may have been mentioned.   On page one of this thread it lists the pages as 1 through 6.  But if you go to another page in the thread, the pages are listed as 0 throught 5.  Screwy.

And one thing that is really annoying, whenever my cursor passes over the black bar across the top (the one with Home: The Magazine: Get Started: etc.)  the drop down automatically appears, covering up the rest of the page.   Please make it so that I have to click on something to get the drop down.  Just have my cursor pass over it shouldn't make it appear.

Mine doesn't do that. I have to actively click on any part of the black line to get anything to happen. Guess it depends on your setup.

I use Firefox 25.0.1 with a Linux Operating System and have to clear all online data to log out. I never stay logged into any site any longer than I have to. Not a big deal to log back in.

Add Block and Flash block are great Add Ons by the way.

Got news for you buddy. The spell check for pc's, notebooks and laptops isn't working either. I'm starting to get used to this format and I like it.

It is Flash that does that. If your Flash is not up to date or is turned off then there is no mouse over on the menu.

You *could* have a roll over without flash, but most web developers use flash these days.

Somehow I have lost my avatar and can't seem to post a new one.  When I choose a new photo (or the old one) in my pictures folder, the green progress bar never finishes.  Without the porgess bar being all green, you get a error message when you click on post photo.  I have tried in both chrome and IE, I had no trouble before posting a photo as an avatar.

You guys are lucky because it sounds like your spell check just doesn't work. The IPhone spell check seems to hate spaces and it comes up with words not even in thedictionary, and whyou you try to fix a word, it just makes if worse as yyou can see.  Iabsolutely hate it!!! It can't get muchworse!

Have you tried installing a new avatar from one of the forums that still has the old format?

Have you tried installing a new dictionary? My spell checker started screwing up last week. Installing a new dictionary fixed it.

Dear Trains.com,
FYI, my Win7HomePremium SP1 64-bit PC upgraded my IE to version 11.0.9600.16428 this week from IE ver. 10 that I used to have.  Ever since, I can no longer access this Forum with it.  I try to get there via direct link or by going through this website's menus, and IE thinks about it, then simply stops and pretends it never tried to get there in the first place.  I don't even get an error message, just a whole lot of nothing.

Fortunately, I also have Firefox, which your forum still loads on, so I'm still able to access it.  But I just thought I'd let you know that you're new software apparently hates IE ver. 11.
