Yeah! I can see it now! The duo, bickering, back and forth, while the peanut gallery, has a free for all. Whadiya Tink? BTW, I am still doing, what I did most of my life, drive 5 hrs, sleep 4 hrs.every day.
Cheers,

If Frank takes up a moderator post he's gonna need four olives in that martini. He won't have a chance for a decent meal between putting out fires and harassing Rich!

A lock is the last resort-not use as a jackboot moderating tactic.
Nothing looks uglier then a forum with lots of lock topics. I found it best to delete the offending post(s) and then send a warning and if the member doesn't see the error of his ways then proceed to lock his membership for 30 days.
Takes loads of common sense and solid judgment to be a moderator.

Frank, that's the whole ideal, while you two would be busy "moderating" each other , the rest of us could run amok.
This reminds me of a bunch of soldiers and the sergeant asks for volunteers to step forward. Then the whole platoon takes a step back .

Frank would probably be using the fire extinguisher to harass Rich, and the forums would be a mess. At least there would be the entertainment for everyone else.

I will be the one who steps forward and volunteer! Someone has too, plus I want to keep the forums in shape, and not have a mess.
Kyle, send a PM to Steve Otte announcing your candidacy to him. He'll let you know in due course if he would like to have you moderate.
And, thank-you for volunteering!

Your a brave soul Kyle. If the job gets to be too much, and you just can't handle it anymore and you need a shoulder to lean on, just call.
By the way the wife knows I don't respond when the Canucks are playing, no matter how long her Honeydew list is, and so should you.

Yep.
I PM'ed Steven Otte a few days ago to sort of officailly volunteer to be a moderator if they need a new one to help out, since there is a shortage of moderators. I haven't heard back from him since, not sure if he is thinking about it or hasn't been on the forums recently, has anyone seen if he was on recently? Not sure if the PM didn't send correctly for some reason.
Kyle,
Steven is always very good and very quick about responding to PM's.
If you do not hear back from him on Monday, drop him another line.
My goodness, somebody actually is volunteering to be a moderator!
Lots I could say about that, but I don't want to be Mr. Negativity (again).
The Moderators lot is quite a job, taking a huge amount of time, patience, tact, diplomacy, and guts.
That leaves me out for sure!
ENJOY !

How does one send a PM on this forum? I see no obvious way.
I'm a moderator on a Opticians Forum and it is a thankless job. Honestly, it's not much fun.

The real question is why would anyone want to be a moderator.
By definition, it is a function that requires a forum member to discipline other forum members.
Deleting posts, cautioning members about their choice of words or behavior toward others.
There is little power play involved since you cannot ban or suspend members.
There really isn't anything positive about the moderator role.
At the least , they should have free subs to any forums they moderate....................And some free special issues.
I cannot speak for Kyle, but I believe his position on this issue is that someone has to do it so he is willing to volunteer. Hopefully, he is not feeling some sort of moral obligation to step forward.
I suppose moderators are useful, if not necessary.
But, lately, we have all been pretty behaved.
Maybe that is why our hosts have not acted in this regard.
My sense is that most, if not all, of the prior moderators have not felt very gratified by their experience.
