If Frank takes up a moderator post he's gonna need four olives in that martini. He won't have a chance for a decent meal between putting out fires and harassing Rich!

A lock is the last resort-not use as a jackboot moderating tactic.

Nothing looks uglier then a forum with lots of lock topics. I found it best to delete the offending post(s) and then send a warning and if the member doesn't see the error of his ways then proceed to lock his membership for 30 days.

Takes loads of common sense and solid judgment to be a moderator.

Frank would probably be using the fire extinguisher to harass Rich, and the forums would be a mess.  At least there would be the entertainment for everyone else.

Kyle, send a PM to Steve Otte announcing your candidacy to him.  He'll let you know in due course if he would like to have you moderate.

And, thank-you for volunteering! Cool

I PM'ed Steven Otte a few days ago to sort of officailly volunteer to be a moderator if they need a new one to help out, since there is a shortage of moderators.  I haven't heard back from him since, not sure if he is thinking about it or hasn't been on the forums recently, has anyone seen if he was on recently?  Not sure if the PM didn't send correctly for some reason.Hmm

Kyle,

Steven is always very good and very quick about responding to PM's.

If you do not hear back from him on Monday, drop him another line.

My goodness, somebody actually is volunteering to be a moderator!

Lots I could say about that, but I don't want to be Mr. Negativity (again).

The Moderators lot is quite a job, taking a huge amount of time, patience, tact, diplomacy, and guts.

That leaves me out for sure!

ENJOY  !

I could have told you that before you took the post. I've been a moderator on many forums since before I joined here a bit over nine years ago.

The real question is why would anyone want to be a moderator.

By definition, it is a function that requires a forum member to discipline other forum members.

Deleting posts, cautioning members about their choice of words or behavior toward others.

There is little power play involved since you cannot ban or suspend members.

There really isn't anything positive about the moderator role.

I cannot speak for Kyle, but I believe his position on this issue is that someone has to do it so he is willing to volunteer.  Hopefully, he is not feeling some sort of moral obligation to step forward.

I suppose moderators are useful, if not necessary.

But, lately, we have all been pretty behaved.

Maybe that is why our hosts have not acted in this regard.

My sense is that most, if not all, of the prior moderators have not felt very gratified by their experience.
