Morning All,
Currently it is 34 with an expected high of 66 under sunny skies. That is all supposed to change starting tomorrow. We should be getting back to our seasonal temps of 40 and 50 degree days, and 20 overall nights before it gets real cold.
Day off, so have 1 load of laundry going, may do a little grocery shopping, do not need much. May also get together with brother-in-law and sister-in-law who are here to help support us at the one year anniversary of my wife's passing this Friday. Could be a few really tough days for all of us. But with lots of family around we will make it through.

It's a Winter Wonderland outside the door here in the Finger Lakes this morning. Got an inch or so of light and fluffy overnight. Won't last long as something called "The Sun" is coming out from behind the clouds every now and then to melt away all the nice snow and make the little wheel turn on the electric board down cellar... It's one of those mornings where you can easily see where the air leaks are into the attics of all the houses in the neighborhood.
Jeffrey, it would have to be a whole lot colder than 31°F to have a problem with your tongue on the pipe... Now if it was -31°F I wouldn't want to try it. Ah you Po Southern Folks... You probably never been camping in a tent with a wind chill of -75°F have you? I have! Now THAT's COLD!!! (I brag now, but don't think I want to do it again...)
Best get myself moving. Lots of things that should get done (and probably won't) today...

Greetings all...
We have been a little busy since I last posted. Nothing major, just a lot of time consuming running around. Last Saturday we went to a Greenberg Train Show on the other side of town. It seemed to be busier than the past couple of shows. Although I didn't get anything, it looked like a lot of buying was going on. You really do have to be careful at these shows as I saw some freight car kits (HO) priced at $5.00 to $7.00 over retail. But they were selling.
Sunday we did our railfanning bit. We only saw 5 trains in a couple of hours. 2 intermodal, 2 mixed freights and 1 crude oil unit train. On the way, we went to a drive thru of a fast food chain to get a sandwich, french fries and a soft drink to take with us. I have real concerns about some of our youth these days. Must have spent 5 or 6 minutes trying to place a simple order, and the kid could not get it right. Before I lost it completely, I cancelled everything and went inside to order. I also asked to speak to the manager so I could complain. That didn't work out to well as she was the one taking orders in the drive thru. I recall being asked one time if I wanted cheese on my cheesburger. How do they get through the day?
Anyway, spent a little time talking to another fellow railfanning and he had a radio scanner. My wife has suggested a couple of times that I get one, but I was reluctant because when I listen to railroad channels on the internet, I can't tell who (what railroad) is talking. But this fellow showed me how you can tag, or assign labels, to the different channels on most new scanners. So for an early Christmas present from the wife, we went out on Monday and bought a Uniden BC125AT with 500 channels. Then reality set in once we were home. These things are very complicated and I didn't have an 8 year old here to show me how to program this thing. The instruction book is absolutely useless. Finally, last night I figured out how to get the railroad frequencies plugged in and tagged. I'm pleased with it as it is picking up signals from the other side of town and so far this morning I've listened to 5 different railroads. Even though I haven't even begun to tap into the full capabilities of this thing, it's doing what I want, so I'm a happy camper.
A cousin died recently and we spent some time over the last couple of days at the visitation, and then at the service yesterday. Unfortunately, funerals and weddings are the only times I see some of my relatives anymore. And that's sad, as we used to be a very close family.
Right now, the house smells really good as the wife is baking some pumpkin pies. You just can't beat the aroma of home baked pies. We also woke up the last 2 mornings to a blanket of fluffy white stuff on the ground. But most is melted from the walks and streets by noon. That's about it from around here, so I hope everyone has a great day.

Went to do some railfanning this morning and caught two mixed freights in about 10 minutes. After that we got a hot dog and some french fries from the fry stand, they were delicious. I love hot sizzling fries with vinegar and lots of salt. Just having a coffee right now as its still pretty cool out there ( 27f )

It is a sunny, balmy 10C or 50F if you prefer, here in tropical Winterpeg. I went for a walk to celebrate and cleaned a few windows. It won't last though as the high for Monday is supposed to be -8C.
I called Barry on the cell phone number I have for him, but had to leave a message. He just called me back and reports that he is doing fine but has been very busy with his music and said he has an album coming out soon. He will drop in sometime in the near future.
Not a lot going on here. I did some document shredding until the unit overheated and shut down. I did start painting the window frames on a N scale structure. I did about 10 but have at least another 30 to go. It is a DPM model of some sort of factory/warehouse. After I finish this post I plan on doing a few more but it is slow going as the window frames are are molded into the wall.

Well my father was off from work today so it's been one thing after another. Only chance I've had to get on the Apple computer was to check out the new drive card that came in today. It works good so I left it right where it was, installed in my //e. I put the old one (still works perfect) back in my mothers old IIe. Still looking for a good low-priced keyboard for that one, preferably without having to buy a parts computer to get it. For the most part it's been look up this or that on the net, open this or that jar, do this, do that. Then there was a trip to Wal-Mart for groceries. I went along to get my stuff myself. If I have my father do it he changes my list and gets things HE thinks I should be eating without taking into account problems that I have with certain foods, or if I tell him to get Brand X he comes back with Brand Y because it was a few cents cheaper. Relatives! Gotta love 'em. It's too much trouble to pile drive 'em into the concrete. And with a sick dog in the house it's almost impossible to concentrate on anything. My fathers little poodle has an enlarged heart. No worms. Just a bad heart. She's on meds for it but she's really hacking up a storm. I told my father she sounds like an old Harley Davidson trying to start with bad points. Chug, chug, hack, wheeze, chug, sputter. Constantly! I may get a chance to work on the game program tomorrow IF my father has to work tomorrow. I can't do much with him getting in my hair about this or that. He thinks I should get a job fixing Apple II computers because I'm so good at it. I just look at him and say 'and get new parts from where? Nobody makes them anymore'. The best I can do is get three or four busted ones to make one good one. Can't convince him of that. He just sees me dump out a pile of parts and a working computer system seems to magically materialize. It's not that easy.Well that's my day in a nutshell. Now where's yours?

And all you guys with snow (Ray, Garry, Galaxy etc) , be stingy, keep it up there, I don't want to see it. The flurries the other morning were almost too much for me! For a front drive car, the Impala is a slippery as a banana peel in bad weather. The 4x4 truck is still laid up, so the Olds is the only good car in snow. So much so we nicknamed it "the billygoat". but SWMBO drives that.
So Barry has an album coming out? Wow, never been close to a real celebrity before! Is he going on tour? (Glad to hear he's doing well).
I did manage over the weekend to drag a few extra module frames down the basement and put track on them, so with 2 sceniced modules, I have a large oval to run on now, along with the 16 ft of modules on the wall. The grandboys will love the roundy-round.
I also dug out a set of Bachmann Pennsy coaches that I had in storage for years. Man they ran like crap with the KD recommended couplers. Here was the fix for them. Easy, cheap and effective! Also, look carefully, and you will see part of the "next" project to be finished!

Not much news here, it is raining like it was summer right now and should freeze over night, so it should be tricky getting to work in the morning.
Ultra-sound guided Biopsy went well. Two different sample areas and they said they got a good selection of cells and the lab was pleased with what they have to work with. But they did say that before too. So we will again wait for a surgery appointment. (hope not too long as my patience is wearing thin.....)
Will maybe check in tomorrow, but too tired tonight to continue.

Meeting went very well. everyone seemed to be excited about what we are trying to put together. Now I have to get in touch with a person above me on the food chain and get it all approved. I'll tell you more when I can.

Hey y'all. How's about a RBF on this chilly night. Low tonight is going to be about 27f, which is pretty darn cold for Alabama in November. Did some checking on things here and there for my MRR project that I'm working in and through. Mostly just looking at old pictures and maps to see what was where. I've also been looking at my list of needed parts for me Bachmann CW40-8, and my Athearn GP40-2. Both need driveshaft components, but the GP40-2 needs more than that, Almost tempted to "retire" the Athearn loco to the parts bin (even though I purchased, but haven't installed, a decoder for it). I can always get another locomotive to strap the decoder into.
Well, that's about it for my neck of the woods, I'm about to throw three kiddos in the tub and give them their baths, then throw them off to bed (and follow to bed myself).
I might be back, I might not....later taters!

Does Blackie travel well? Midnight gets so worked up that checking his sugar is pointless at the vet. And if we leave him there all day for a curve, he still gives erratic readings. The solution, we do it here! We stab his ear with a fresh lancet every 2 hours for the curve, and test his blood with my meter. Then we phone the readings into the vet who then adjusts his med from there. Midnight loves it, doctoring from home.
Doesn't like Doctors, they hang out with too many sick people!
My father is off from work tomorrow. So he'll be taking me to my prosthesis fitting in the morning. I sure hope he doesn't waste another day for me like he did today. I let him know this evening I didn't much appreciate having my day wasted doing little BS things for him that he was fully able to do for himself and had the time to do them. I had things I wanted to do too. Tomorrow will be pretty much a nothing day. We have to go to DeRidder for my prosthesis fitting then back to Leesville for his cardiologist appointment (reason he's off from work) then several other errands. By the time we get back here probably the last thing I'd want to do is be at a computer programming stuff. Maybe I'll get time over the weekend.It's going to be another freeze tonight. A low of 30°. It's 35° now.Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Karl .... One of our cats likes going to the vet or anywhere else we take her. .... Regarding Bachmann passenger cars, I tried several ideas with the couplers. One cheap idea was to have plastic strips glued under the floor and over the pivoting coupler boxes to keep them from jiggling. The best idea was to remove the coupler boxes and couplers and mount Kadee long shank couplers to the car bottom. It was quick and easy. There is no need to open the car.... We don't have snow here.

V8Vega I did find a cherry rear seat bolster ( top of the rear seat ) for my 87 Prelude, mine is sun faded pretty bad and for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to remove it. I spent quite awhile trying to get it off, I think its held on by clips but I couldn't get it off.

i don't know if htis will help you, but it is how to remove the ENTIRE inside back on the 87 Prelude, so somwhere in ther mus t be the answer to your Question!

Good morning. It's 30° with 99% humidity. The high will be 61° (feel like 65°) with some clouds.Been up since a little before 0600. Already ready to head out for DeRidder, just waiting on my father. He'll be going through his usual morning routine including a close shave and making sure every hair is in place. Compared to him I'm a hairy bearded beast. Gonna have to find a barber shop at some point before the Parish starts checking for dog licenses. Either that or get a collar with a license and rabies tag attached. I'm hoping the prosthesis fitting goes well and they won't have to make many adjustments.

Karl, he is a lot better than he used to be the first couple times I took him to the vet. He used to cry like a baby... MMMMMmeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooooooooow zup,zup,zup,zup,zup........ Yep, complete with Zup, zups at the end, then take a gasping breath and start all over. Lucky it is only a block away, and as the years have gone by he has decided he actually likes the lady vet and only meows a little for the ride over. I really think at first he thought I was going to send him away and not bring him back home. He is a sweetie! Beatutiful Black cat you have there, BTW.

Back from the vets. Blackie was good as gold, but had a blood sugar reading of 366! She said, "It's a bit high"... Yep! So we are upping his Glipizide dose to a whole pill twice a day from half a pill twice a day. Since I had a half pill left from last night, I am starting him on 3/4 of a pill this morning and this evening. He was originally started on a one pill twice a day regimen, but he kept throwing it up so we reduced it. She thinks that now that he is used to the half dose he should be able to tolerate the higher dose. Time will tell... My blood sugar was once again high this morning (146) so I will probably be getting something changed on my regimen as well when I see the Doc next week.
I think I will tackle some outdoor stuff this afternoon. Today is chilly, but the sun is peaking out from behind the clouds every now and then. I have to pack up the rest of the old growth in the garden to be picked up, dig the carrots, and mow the lawn yet before winter.
Jeffrey, hope the fitting for the new leg goes well.

What parts do you need? I have some leftover stuff from a crashed 8-40 C Bachmann Spectrum.
Well the fitting went better than I thought it would. There's only a couple of minor corrections they need to make. The doc says if they any problems it'll probably be with the insurance company wanting clinical reports and other such BS from my doctors. Government health insurance agencies are always eager to save a buck wherever they can no matter who it hurts yet they're more than willing to throw billions at a health insurance program that doesn't work and never will work satisfactorily. That seems like an oxymoron if I ever heard one. Kinda like 'military intelligence'. Anyways there was just a bit of discomfort, mostly because my knee joint has a 20% deflection. That puts a lot of tension on the muscles in the back of the leg and it'll do that until they get stretched out a bit more. But despite the discomfort it felt pretty darn good to be walking around in the docs office. What a shame I couldn't bring that test leg home with me. The plastic socket on it would never stand the strain though. The permanent model will be made of carbon fiber and Kevlar. Very light but very strong.

Wow Ray! 366! Poor kitty! I hope he gets under control soon! Its good your vet is so close. The 15 minute ride to the vet, Midnight get so worked up that he foams at the mouth and his fur stands on end. (He's even soiled himself on a ride to the vet. SWMBO thought he would be more relaxed in the car on her lap than in the carrier. Looks like he told he no.) His sugar was just over 500 last time we had him tested at the vet. SWMBO does it at home now, and he doesn't even flinch. He take his by injection, twice a day, 3 cc s. Usually, he doesn't even look up from the food dish when we dose him. Swmbo's pretty good with this diabetes management. She's got him at a normal level, and mine was 110 this a.m. His meds are expensive, $100 every 90 days, plus syringes, but he's a good cat.

Thanksgiving. It looks good for that prediction.
