Not sure I ever mentioned a short while back the Mantua 2-6-6-2 w/ tender had arrived. Santa's early Christmas present. Anyway, it didn't want to run and the wheels would stick every couple revolutions. Finally just gave it a bunch of throttle and it smoothed out. Not quite the quality or precision of others (MTH & BLM come to mind), but so long as it can haul a small log train up and down a mountain (when I get one built), that is all I will ask of it. And of course to look cool sitting on a siding when at rest.

Evening All, A banana milkshake please Chloe. Been a warm day, high of 75 F currently 70 F. Finally got a day off, but have a long lists of things to do for her-in-doors. Got the lawn mowed, a pruning job carried out on a feijoa tree, and some garlic bulbs planted before it got too hot outside for this boy. Her-in-doors was happy and suggested why didn't I do some model railroading, while I was cooking dinner. Got four tracks laid on my scratch built ferry slip. Am going to put my feet up and watch the Dr Who 50 year annivesary special, after giving the garden a water.

Good Afternoon Gang!
It´s a beautiful Sunday (early) afternoon in my neck of the woods. Went for a little walk after lunch, but I am glad I am home now. It´s sunny but cold - near freezing. TG no "schn*w", yet.
This morning I cleared up my rack to make room for a test track on which I can run the critter. It´s running nicely, but in backwards gear it is a little wobbly. One of the whells seems to be more oval than round. I don´t really mind, as these critters usually ran wobbly...

... those Pacifics of Deutsche Reichsbahn or Deutsche Bundesbahn hardly ever pulled freight trains. They were made for speed, and not for pulling long freight trains. I bet they could not get a freight train moving without the help of a pusher engine.

Very white outside the windows this morning. Something called "Lake Effect" has cranked up overnight and we have a little over 1" of blowing frozen precipitation out there. They have salted the roads here, but I will have to do some digging out of the drifted stuff before going anywhere. I was supposed to meet the family at church, but didn't make it. I watched several cars sliding around in the road in front of my house and figured I could pray right here this morning. I also overslept this morning so really didn't have time to get everything done.

We ended up with a just dusting, but at 17F last night, had to "drip the pipes' and antifreeze {the nontoxic RV H2O kind} the drain to make sure we had water this morning! getting bitter cold out there tonight posta b only 7F? or is that tomorrow night?
Ah well, they forcasted a BITTERLY cold winter this year for us'ens up chere in the NE USA. Not looking forward to 4 long months like this... Brrr..
We only keep the heat at about 63F, since MOH is now working and go the promotion, we COULD turn it up 5 degrees, but we wnat to try it and see if we can keep costs low by keeping it down. We just "butttoned down " with plastic the back doorway and the front LR windows.
I used to keep it at 50F at night and only up to 54F during the day {unless company came which was rare, I'd turn it up} before my disability went through. I'd have to wait for my HEAP award letter to see what I got, translate into propane gallons usage and determine IF and HOW HIGH I could turn it up! I had no choice then basically if the HEAP didn't cover it, I could only afford one extra tank on my own, if that..I'd try to get it filled in April-May when lower cost so I'd have at least one tank to go into the heating season with. I usually did not turn it on until..la ti da...November 25th. Unless pipes were gonna freeze. And try in March-April to leave at least 1/2 a tank {100 gallons} to get filled for the next winter cycle.
The WInd! OH, nasty this AM when I went to get gas and the paper! Tore off some of the plastic put on the front porch just yesterday!
Well, off to do more laundry finish my pilgramage to out the scented stuff...

Good morning. It's 36° with 61% humidity. The high will be 48° and feel like 44°. Expecting rain tonight. this morning becoming this afternoon. Tonight there's So far my only plans for today are to make Oliver's life difficult. The next coach in the train is an old one that has a corridor on one side of the car. Seating is in small compartments with six seats each. A car like takes longer to search and there's more places to hide items, bad guys and surprises.Other than that I have no plans.

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk.
As previously mentioned, we got in a couple of hours of railfanning yesterday. Sort of quiet, with only 5 trains. 2 intermodals, 2 mixed freights and 1 crude oil unit train.
Got a little of that white stuff last and the roads apparently iced over, as there were lots of fender benders in the area. Overnight the temperature dropped down to 17 degrees. My of my, but I miss summer already. Dinner tonight is homemade Beef Stroganoff with noodles, and we will open a bottle of Riesling from SEneca Lake.
Stopped by a place in Pittsburgh we sometimes go to watch trains earlier this afternoon. Not much action with only 1 train, a mixed freight. However, for all you folks with small layouts and trying to run multiple locomotives on short trains, here's your prototype justification. 4 engines, 2 GP38-2 & 2 GP38-3 pulling 7 cars.

I hate this new forum software, I have been on the trainsmagnize forums more since the have the oldsoftware. For some reason our new software combined with the apple iPhone spell check hates spaces, but that is the least of the problems. Crossing my fingers that they are going to bring the old software back.

All I did today was well, nothing,lol. I watched the final f1 race of the year. My mom and dad are cleaning up there house and my dad gave me his old lionel and american flyer trains. They dont run that great anymore, they were his from the 60's. The one lionel engine is all metal and is stinking heavy. They dont make them like that anymore do they? there is not one piece of plastic on that thing. It looks like the headlight is even glass.

Well Oliver made it through the coach he was searching yesterday and is about to enter an old style coach that has seating compartments. Who's ever ridden in one of those? In this one there's a corridor down one side of the car going from one end to the other. The side of the corridor that fronts onto the seating area is lined with sliding doors. Each door allows access to a small compartment with two rows of seats, three seats to a row. The two rows face each other and there's a small table in between. If you want to play games or cards or have a snack you have to bring your own. There's room under the seats for small carry-ons and an overhead rack for things like briefcases, attaches, etc. There are small hooks on the wall to either side of the entryway to hang coats. If it's a deluxe compartment there are four seats, two to a row with a small storage compartment between the seats in each row. Again there's a small table between the two rows of seats but this time the table has a chess-checker pattern and has game pieces for chess and checkers and there's packs of cards for those who would rather play cards. There's also a call button for snacks and such. There's a lavatory at one end of the car and a small food service for tyhe deluxe compartments at the other end. Now that's my kind of railcar. A car like that probably never existed but in Oliver's adventure it exists.NEWS FLASH! There's a terminator loose in the front half of the train! Oliver's life just got much more interesting!Nothing much else went on today.

Went over to my son's house for supper tonight... Roads were drifted ovewr in a few spots. Probably should have taken the main road though Waterloo and come back out to his house from there. I did just fine, but a bit of "White Knuckle" driving. Looks like there will a big crowd at their house for the Thanksgiving feast (as usual). My sister and one of my SILs (who is an old high School friend of my sister) will be coming as well as most everyone in DILs family plus my son and his partner from Chicago. They will be driving in this Wednesday right in the middle of the storm that is crossing the country at the moment.
I get to watch the Granddaughters for a while tomorrow afternoon as Son and DIL have a teacher's conference to see how the little one is doing at pre-kindergarten.

I might "run" into town to get a "bottle" of dull black paint. We have a small department store which sells Revell plastic kits and also stocks Revell´s new line of acrylic paints. There are some parts on that critter which I want to paint black before applying the rust to them.

The Decapods were the mainstay of freight traffic until the demise of steam in the mid-1970´s. I nused to see them every day in my childhood days, didn´t even take pictures because they were "ubiquitious". One day the were all gone - all of a sudden!
If you go for Deutsche Bundesbahn in the 1960´s, the above would be your best choice!

My community settings say I am on GMT + 1 hour, but the new forum software apparently ignores the private settings. It´s close to 1 pm local time now.
That candy red of my little critter is now a part of world history. I repainted the chassis using a much darker red and it looks fine to me. As the paint is still drying, no pictures yet. Will run to our department store later in the day to get that dull black paint.

Good morning! It's still around 20 degrees here in New England, but clear. The wind died down overnight. Yesterday, I drove up to New Hampshire to exchange the 3 cases of Bud Light that SWMBO bought for Bud. That Light stuff has no appeal to me at all. Since she's in Florida with her parents, I took her big white minivan ("The Whale") to give it some run time and keep the battery charged. The wind was ferocious, and that was exactly the wrong vehicle for it. Oh, well, mission accomplished.
Vincent, you are paying the price of competence. Once they figure out that you can do stuff right, you become "indespensible" and part of the system.
It was a good weekend for trains. I added railings to all the loading docks and stairways at the tannery. They don't come with the kit, so I drilled holes and bent floral wire for them, and then painted them all bright yellow. With that detail done, I started final emplacement of the buildings, and I'm ready to cut the Hydrocal castings that will be the concrete apron around the facility. I got the roofs painted, too, which was good because it looks like the weather will be kind of frosty for outdoor spray painting for a while.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
