Hey Dennis,

Remember the good old days when you had to put chains on the trucks. Put them on, take them off, put them back on... all on one shift. I always hated that job. At least we didn't have to do it on the crash trucks, just the structual and quick response vehicles. When the ambulances were only converted station wagons, they needed chains as well. I never did like hearing the house bells going off in the middle of a cold winter night.

Whistling  Hi Guys,

Back at work today and feeling less than Par to be polite.

CC. Willie, now don't go out of your way to send me any of that winter schmutz, it will get here by itself and it feels like it's coming if you step outside right now.   Makes a Fella wonder what he did with all his summer's wages,  don't i't ??????

Tom  W.  I remember well chaining up only to turn around and take them off and then do it again and again, boy, those were the days !!!!!  NOT, for that job anyway. The youth part might be OK, especially if a guy knew what he does now.

CN. Charlie & Blind Bruce & Seamonster,  If  C.C.Willie sends the Chilly, you can bet I'll be sending it on to you Guys,  so polish up your snow shovel and find your mittens..

Ulrich,  So good to have you around more often and I loved those two clips. The sound of that ol' one lunger made me chuckle.

Karl, & Oz Jim I think you made a great picks  there, I could handle a good half dozen of those TTX flats.   Hope your White Elephant table hours were enjoyable Karl......                                                                             and sorry to hear of your loss Jim.

.All for now,

Jeff - back in the mid-late 80's I was taking assembly language at college. It was interesting. But at the time I was in my mid 30's with 3 kids and a full time job, so really did not do much with it. I applaud your work on Native Fury.

Assembly Language is a good language to learn. In language levels it's a few steps below what I'm using but you learn how to do more if you need to use an assembler to put your ASM code together. But I wouldn't envy you the task of going through pages of code to find an error. I used to use a DDT (Dynamic Debugging Tool) for that task. It can be used to correct errors in Basic also but the program has to be reverted to assembly code first. Not fun.

Sorry Jeffrey:

HotDiggety DOG Dam!!! {although I question the use of the last word!!!}

I DID notice the trains in the game, BUT: I questioned the trainset in the girl's BR, doesn't seem much like a girls toy, with no disrepect to *SUE*. I would have put the extra trainset in the "guest room" or the "den" instead.

And, Sorry Jeffrey, I got more enraptured in the video Ulrich so kindly shared with us! that detail is amazing!

Well after a full day of doomsday preppers I have moved on to haunted houses on tv. Ghosts and goblins are natural this time of year!

You haven't known some of the girls I've known. My little sister was happiest playing with MY trains and she'd take her favorites up on the tool shop roof and pull the ladder up after her. She wasn't happy playing with dolls. She had to out with the boys and play baseball, football and beat the tar out of a few of them once in a while. I had quite a few girlfriends who were the same way. So yeah, when it comes to girls playing with trains, I've seen a lot.

I am sorry to hear that you are being harassed via e-mail. The internet has a nasty habit of making cowards very brave as long as they can hide their identities.

Just remember that you have a ton of moral fibre, and the other guy - well you know I can't say what needs to be said without really really breaking the rules.

Good evening .....

Here today, we had some great Fall weather. Sunny and mid-60's. So I spent the afternoon doing outdoor work and cleaning the garage.

Galaxy .... I was spring cleaning in the fall as you said a coupld of days ago.

Oz Jim......  Thanks for the update. Sincere condolences you you and your family for the loss of your grandmother. Yes, we have heard about the fires Down Under. Bad stuff. The CSX locomotive looks very nice, and I see Thomas the Tank behind it in your photo. We see plenty of CSX near here because the old L&N line is part of CSX now.

Ulrich .... I hope your tooth will be okay. I like the photo of the little engine you showed. Also, I like the videos. The sound on the "critter" video was interesting with its very low RPM, putt, putts. Your friends layout is shaping up nicely. He does good work, and it looks like an interesting track plan you designed.

Jeff .... Again, your creativity is remarkable. Of course, you had to include model railroading in the game.

Canadian Dennis .... I hope your MOH and your SIL have an enjoyable trip.  You can have a break from honey do's I hope. .... or did she leave a list of honey do's? ........ (I'm asking because my Shelley is out of town for a few days too, and she did leave a list, but not a bad one.

John Boy ..... Still praying for your health. I am really amazed at how long you must wait to have tests and  procedures to correct the problem.

Not much MRR'ing to report today. I ran some trains. I fixed a sleeper car which was causing derailments and was uncoupling when it should not. That's all.

I did a lot of work on the Paradise Cove program module today but it doesn't amount to much when compared to the overall size of the module. Let's see if I can put it a way that everyone can understand.

Below is a property block. You'll notice in it a gray block for the home. As far as the player is concerned the home block is played within the property block even though they're different parts of the program.

And below is a typical home block.

On the game I've got three street blocks filled in. One street block is two property blocks which of course have a home block each. So three street blocks equals six property blocks and six home blocks. Each property and home block have an average of nine mini-blocks which look like a tic-tac-toe grid and each mini-block has an average of eight lines of code and there's over a hundred lines of code in subroutines that govern how the program works. Now that everybody's confused I'll head off to bed. I have a doc appointment in the morning to find out where and how bad the blocked blood vessels I have are.

See y'all later.

Lunchtime again on this Monday, Oct. 28th!

Zoe, just coffee, please. Petra is making hot apple cakes with cinnamon, yummy!

Wet and windy outside, with temperatures at about 14°C, quite warm, actually, for this time of the year. We have a bard storm zeroing in on us, expected to dump a lot of rain on us.

No major plans for the rest of the day, may be searching the web for some inspiration for my (planned) layout.

Made a short write up on it in the "Layout" section - you can find it here.

Have a nice day!

Good Morning gang! Cowboy

Flo, may I pleeeeze have some intravenous coffee, sweetened with 5 hour energy?  Yeah, 5 of em ought to be enough!Whistling

Today I am just recovering from a weekend at the GSMTS show in Timonium. Had a blast!  Smile, Wink & Grin Friday set up was a full day of unloading stuff and setting it up. Saturday was busy at the White Elephant table with dealers from 7 til 9 am until the doors opened, then it was frantic!!! From that point til 3:30 I did not sit down. Wow We had 2 lines. 1 line of folks dropping off stuff to sell, and 1 line of folks buying items off the table! A regular feeding frenzy! Sunday was busy, but not crazy. But 3 days on concrete floors have killed my legs.Dead

Now the show itself, well attended, lots of folks walking around with bags of goodies. My buddies at Spring Mills depot announced 2 new cars (An I5 B&O caboose & a covered hopper) , more details soon on their web site. I only bought 1 thing, Surprise  an Accurail bi-level auto rack kit (B&O) This is some kinda record for me!! Usually I have a few boxes & bags in the trunk of the car!Laugh

I did meets a few forum members, from here and across the street this weekend.Big Smile Great to finally meet, just wish I wasn't so danged busy at times! We need to do it again sometime, when we can have a coffee or a cold one together!Yes

Well, I'll be in the corner, let me know if the smell of Ben Gay gets to ya! Sigh

Karl

NCE über alles! Thumbs Up

Good morning. It's 58° with 100% humidity. The high will be 78° and feel like 85°.

Got a doc appointment at 10:30 this morning. that'll blow the rest of the morning and a good chunk of the afternoon as Dr Matthew isn't known for being quick.

News from Paradise Cove. Grues have been sighted! As they're creatures that live in darkness staying to lit areas is a good way to avoid them. One grue has been seen to wear a blindfold therefore light doesn't drive it away. It's kept locked away in a certain MIL's room behind a heavy door with a special lock so all should be safe as long as some 'adventurer' doesn't find the key to that lock!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with raisons and brown sugar and a cup of dark roast coffee to start the day.

Today it is partly here in the Finger Lakes.  Partly what I haven't decided yet...  Current temperature is 48°F with a high of 49° soon.  Interestingly the mail just arrived.  Usually arrives late afternoon on my street.  Hmmmmmm?

Had a great day out at the museum yesterday.  I managed to keep the stove within bounds for most of the day.  Even with the main valve on the stove almost all the way off, it keeps flooding out.  I adjusted the secondary valve so it was almost closed and that worked for part of the day.  Then it flooded again, so I shut it off.  When it was almost out, i just turned the valve on a bit.  Next weekend is closing weekend for this year.  Biggest problem we had out there was getting enough people to properly staff the place.  There are a couple of us that drive 100 miles round trip to help out.  some others would like to help more but live 600 miles away....  We plan to have a couple special Holiday trips right before Christmas.  Guess who is playing the "Jolly Old Man"?

Had a birthday party for my son last night after I arrived back here from the museum.  He is now 47.  getting to be an old man like his dad!  My other son is in Saudi Arabia at the moment.  Can't tell people why yet.....

Jeffrey, hope the Doctor's appointment went well!

Later!

It is cloudy here in the Dakotas, the temperature is 22 degrees.

Cream of Wheat and toast was on the menu. The toast was too light, so I took it back to the kitchen, and then it was too dark. (LIONS are difficult to please, but cannot complain since he was running the toaster himself)

There are some kids out in the north east corner of the pasture playing with some Tonka Trucks. The city says that they are building new sewer lagoons, but from our window, it just looks like boys with toys, and when they are done, their sandbox will look just like the rest of the prairie at least until the start putting water into it. These will be cells 4 and 5, and they will not drain onto our property, or rather, not into our lake, but will obviously cross our property beyond the lake and pour into the next guys lake. But then it will be "clean water"

Our lake does get run off from the Ethanol Plant, but that is clean water. And what the heck, we like the water. It may be that we will allow a company to take water from our lake for fracking, but we have to wait and sea what will become of that! Permits and all of that stuff are not our affair, the company pushing the project has to worry about that.

Florida Power and Light is back. They were here a few years ago with a plan to build a wind farm west of us.  Some towers may be on our land. Anyway they have paid us to think about it, and will pay more if they actually do anything. There are several large wind farms in our area, and another going up somewhat to the east of us. May as well have some west of us too, eh?

Remember the good old days when you had to put chains on the trucks.

Oh yes, I remember them all too well. We ran way out into the county with both ambulance an and pumpers as well as the city. Those runs on the tailboard for 20 miles got just a tad chilly at -30 as I recall. Of course the darned chains slowed response times way down as well.

When I think back, a person had to be a little nuts to join the Fire Department Indifferent

Nope, not a single "Honey Do" to be seen, just pick them up at the airport in Calgary on Thursday PM.

I do however have to get out there and shovel the sn*w off the walks today since it finally quit. Of course it's now -16 C.

Good Morning,

It was a chilly 19F this morning with a high of 28 today  but it is mostly sunny. Supposed to get up to 45 by the end of the week. Maybe I shouldn't have put the lawn furniture away.

Well here I sit at my desk for the last Monday of my working career. Only 3 more days to go after this and I must say it sure feels strange. I have cleaned out all my files and now will start taking home the personal stuff I have in the office including a framed photo of, surprise, a U2g Northern. It is a really great photo that I cut out of a calendar and then framed. I also have a chimere sitting on top of my computer to ward off evil spirits. It has done a pretty good job so far so I will be taking it home.

I finally got the fish out of the pond on Saturday and put them in their winter abode which is a laundry tub in well, the laundry.  I use a large freezer bag to scoop up the fish and wow is that water ever cold! It actually hurts your hands. Naturally some water found its way over the top of my rubber boots so I had cold, wet feet too.  I pump all the water out of the pond for the winter. Lucky I did it then as it is supposed to get down to 14F tonight.  After that my wife took us out for lunch. We went back to the same place as the previous Saturday so we could have the other item on the menu that was the second choice then. We both had the mussels in a Pernod cream sauce. They have the best mussels I've ever had and I do like mussels. The restaurant is a small place that has been around for 25 years and always has had great food. We usually just go there for lunch on Saturdays.

I did run the Northern around a little yesterday as passenger service will be discontinued for the month of November. I find that cycling different services by month actually results in my running trains more often and with more of a purpose. I ran the smoke unit on it a little. An interesting effect but not nearly thick enough to be very realistic.

Not sure what I'll do for the rest of the day.  If it weren't for the internet it really would be a struggle to get through it.

Lions and Tigers and Grues, Oh, MY!

Well a dull day here, chilly outside but not as chilly as the Dakotas! Glad I am NOT there!

Helped MOH tone up resume, maybe up for a promo at the one job, would be NICE, say prayers please! MOH has only been there 4 months and not done much work {6 month usually required for upgrades!} , but MOH's supervisor said to apply, she would vouch! WOULD MEAN BENIES TOO! PRAYERS PLEASE!!

Well, we go off nappy-poos {that is what we call it to the c-a-t} with MOH now is home. I could use it!

Later, watch out for  GRUES!

Went to see the doc today. They did a sonogram of both sides of my neck to see if any of the arteries were blocked. They didn't find anything. There's good blood flow on both sides. This means the blockage, if there is one is further up and it's going to take a CT scan to find it. I'm scheduled to go back in two weeks.

Did a little more work on the Paradise Cove module. A property block. It's infested with pesky garden gnomes and wicked trolls. The trolls are particularly nasty and will kill you if they get the chance. The gnomes aren't all that pleasant either. And this is just the yard. The character hasn't gotten into the house yet! What awaits him there?

Wow a CT scan in two weeks! Up here you are lucky to get booked for one in two months. Just ask Johnny Boy in Regina.

Benn busy since this afternoon. Put some groceries away. Then got started on Paradise Cove again. I've added a few properties and homes today. I'm in the middle of programming in the home at 912 Nelson Street. When Nelson Street is done I'll get started on Aurora Drive.

Well it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Hello .....

Another nice day. Finished cleaning the garage. Washed the truck. Repaired a flat tire on one of the Seadoo trailers. The garage is full, but neatly arranged with 3 vehicles, 2 Seadoos on trailers, a kayak, and and assortment of lawn and garden equipment and tools. I'll move the deck furniture in the garage at a later date.

Not much layout work to report with all of the outside work to do.

Wow a CT scan in two weeks! Up here you are lucky to get booked for one in two months. Just ask Johnny Boy in Regina.

That's probably what it'll be like here after Obamacare goes into effect. I'm try to get the majority of this stuff wrapped up before then.

Yeah, Jeff..... There were so many red flags, but that did not stop the politicians from their deed. Jeff , prayers for your health.
I saw Keith posting some really nice scenery in his thread in the "Layouts and Layout Building Section. He deserves complements for his work, and I'll post some of that. I'll invite him back ti the Diner.
CN Charlie .... This is the big final week of w*rk. That is fantastic!

morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD TUESDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Tuesday, October 29th, 2013!!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!

Today's limmerick:

There once was a boy named Frank

Who thought school rather did stank

He hated it the most,

And gave up the ghost

and turned in his test papers blank.

Today's Children's medicines claims:

A good morning after a night's sleep-through night

That's how a parent feels after a restful night's sleep provided by Quaalude 300 (methaqualone).

He wakes up alert and  ready to face the demands of the day. (Quaaludes 300 patients usually awaken easily and without experience of a hangover)... because he slept all night.

A non barbiturate

*Quaalude 300*

{Quaaludes..it's whats for dinner, right?}

Today's Weird Word:

Pecksniffian: (pek-SNIF-ee-uhn) adj. Pretending to have high moral principles; sanctimonious, hypocritical.

ETYMOLOGY:
After Seth Pecksniff, a character in Charles Dickens's novel Martin Chuzzlewit. Earliest documented use: 1844.
NOTES:
Charles Dickens describes Pecksniff like this: "Some people likened him to a direction-post, which is always telling the way to a place, and never goes there"

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Lunchtime!

I just enjoyed a good serving of Petra´s tuna fish casserole and it was delicious. So it´ll be just coffee for me, if you please, Zoe, dear.

Called the Regner people who make those critter kits, only to find out that those kits are not available at the moment. They hope to have them in stock by Christmas. Rats, that condemns me to arm-chairing until then!

Yesterday´s storm left a path of devastation in Germany. Gusts with speeds up to 110mph knocked down trees and toppled trucks. 7 people got killed, mainly by trees falling on their cars. I am just glad we were quite safe in this area.

With no poltical w*rk to do anymore, I have plenty of time to dream about my layout and detail the drawing, just to tickle my imagination. Added a few bits and pieces this morning and may start on a set of construction drawings for the structures.

I wish I could do a full 3-D drawing of the plan, but WinRail has no option for this. I may check on Google sketchup.

Time to take a nap!
