Jeff - When you get done programing the game. How will it look ? Will it appear like the modern games ? Is that a current pict. of you in front of the van ?

That photo was taken about a year ago I think but not before 2011. The game is text only. No graphics. It'll appear similar to the Zork games.

It is snowing in this part of North Dakota!

Sheesh, last week it was South Dakota and I thought Alberta was bad for early snow Indifferent

Time to get out the Muck lucks I guess.

Whistling   You've got it Dennis     and Bunny Hugs   too.......!!!!!!

And Br. Elias,  there is no snow in the Subway tunnels is there ?. But better get ear muffs for those LIONS.

Did my last mowing last evening before the rains hit.  Today I must run the last bit of gas out of the mower and cut down the lily stems.  I got the eave troughs done earlier in the week and the A/C wrapped up so today should finish the fall work other than polishing the snow shovels and getting the snow blower's oil changed>>>>>>>><<<<<<<always something. Not that I like doing it, but I hope next year I still will be able to do it.   You know how that goes..................Grumpy

well,

It is Over. It is done.

MIL's funeral was today. AN old Family close friend MOH's age came in form another state and accompanied us. Just the 4 of us. It was  a BEAUTEOUS day. although a bit of a nip in the air {to be expected this time of year}.

MOH read a poem from the carry-away card from my mother's funeral a decade ago. Maybe later I will post it, maybe not.  MOH got through it, though half way was a challenge to read it. I was ready to step in as when MOH was looking for Bible Psalms to read, and couldn't find the right one, I suggested the poem and  I read it to MOH and it was the first time I read it without breaking up. BUT MOH made it then said a whole some of German {and the Funeral director thought was "nice"?} and we all said goodbye to the casket.

Oh, first we all said goodbye to her before the casket was sealed at the funeral home this morning before heading up. FIL said "it doesn't look like her" {she looked TIRED} and did not want to stay at all. He was disappointed, I think, severely. We put 8 roses in the casket with her. 1} she ALWAYs enjoyed flowers and wanted to surround herself with them, 2} one for all of us and one each for  the favored cats in her life. A splay on top went to the spot with her for interment. When MOH ordered the flowers, they gave MOH a single rose extra for us. It became the extra flower for family friend who came in from out of state to put in casket with MIL. So It was meant to be to have that extra rose. ALL were roses of varying colors.

So, then that  was that. It was a sunny but breezy day. Just like My mother's. Short and sweet, just like My MIL. The casket was simple and elegant, just like MIL. So, now family friend will visit with FIL and keep him busy for a short while.

Auf viedersehen, Mutti, Ich liebe dich. Ruhe in frieden.

On other notes: Todd: glad to hear Brenda's checkup went well,Good to hear heart damage was minimal. I have 2 minor heart issues, and know how scarry they can be!  Someone mentioned not smoking..are you still not? good for you! I quit and DO NOT regret it, In fact I regret all the years I did smoke and wasted money. Good for you all on both accounts!
someone else said something that was good, but now forgot,so best wishes to all?

I can use all three "WORDS OF THE DAY" today. MIL' s was like a fine passing  "gnast" {snuffing out, as a candle flame} {{Elton John woud be so pround}}. The "sandapile"{coffin} was brilliant silver pearl witth chrome adornments. There were NO "Moirologists" { hired mourners at a funeral} today, just REAL ones.

See? they do come in handy sometimes!!

now to go pay some bills and take a well deserved nap!

Have a great evening guys!

Dennis - What is Muck Lucks ?

Ah, you need to live in the "Great White North" to know what they are I guess. They originated with the 1st nations people and were quickly adopted by the early fur traders of the Hudson Bay Co. and North West Trading Co as a means of keeping their feet warm in Canada's cold winters. The Inuit of the far north also wear them but they are slightly different in that they are made of seal skin with the fur turned to the inside.

Evening All,

Not much happening here. I ran trains for about a hour today. I think it's the first time in several months.

MOH still out of town until late tomorrow.

Todd- I did not know Brenda was having cardiac issues. I am very glad she is doing well.

Jeff- Are you planning on selling your game? I remember playing Zork back in the day and really enjoying it. My problem is a short attention span when playing computer games.

Garry- Very nice photos in WPF.

Hope everybody has a great weekend.

Can't be much shorter than mine. I average about thirty seconds before my attention wanders somewhere else. I don't write games for sale anymore. I just do it for my own enjoyment.

I been a busy old Indian today. I don't know what happened but I really got locked in on a binge with Native Fury.

Those areas marked in blue in the photo are what I coded in today alone, thirty some-odd blocks. One of them a two-story stainless-steel house. I kid you not. There's one of those in this neighborhood, built back in the 50's I think. It's unoccupied now. I've only been in it once in my entire life so I don't remember all of the layout so I took a guess at some of it. The real house doesn't have any hidden areas that I'm aware of but I wrote one into my version of the house in Native Fury. I decided to have some fun and gave it sort of an Ali-Baba flavor. If the character goes up the stairs to the bedroom up there and chants 'Open Sesame' a part of the stairwell wall will open revealing the entrance to the secret room. Thus far I haven't put anything in the room yet. Any suggestions?

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would suit me well at the moment....

Jeffrey, how about a model railroad in the secret room, and the player has to come up with the correct name of the railroad or suffer a long fall to the concrete floor way below....

Did it again today!  Got 295mpg coming home from my sisters house and going down to the allergist's office to get my shot.  Ran out of EV a couple blocks after leaving the office.  Since it is an uphill climb to get to my house I only got 53mpg on that short (mile and a half) trip.  I am getting 110mpg on this tank at the moment.  Will probably be back to 80 something by the time I get home from the Museum on Sunday, but I'm having fun hypermiling the car...

I took the wall I poured out of the mold this evening.  Can't do much else until it cures/dries.  I have the dremel all set up to be able to cut the upper window line on the wall, and don't want to reset the dremel drill press until I get that cut made.  Couple days should do it, then I can reset and complete cutting all the lower windows out on the walls that have them.  That can be done easily in an evening.  I also did about 5' of ballasting in one spot.

Hope all of you have a great evening!  Prayers for all in need.

Howmus - 295 mph ? What in the world are you driving ?

V8VEGA - That is a fascinating stat. Rome had 1million people 133BC ? Where did you find that fact ?

Dennis - very fascinating world you live in. No disrespect meant but why would anyone want to live in that extreme cold ? How do you live like that ? What is the difference between having fur on the inside vs. the outside ?

Todd - Will have prayers going your way.

Galaxy - I am sorry and know the pain. Prayers continue for you and yours.

Train news. Ran across an add and for a box of trains for $60. Then a few days later the add price dropped to $40. The curiosity got the better of me so I contacted them. Well when I got there the box didn't look like much and I was disappointed. No transformer . So I offered $20 and they took it. I bought the Rio Grande O27 , 080 with a hopper , caboose, flat car, telephone poles, bridge lots of three rail track and something mangled that I think is a semaphore . Now if I can find a transformer...

Good Morning Folks!

Zoe, a stack of hot cakes & maple syrup, and lots of coffee, please!

I spent a few hours in the web this morning to search for plywood and that particular modeling clay. It was a time well spent, as I found a sources which offered them up to 50% lower than the regular price. And that includes shipping and handling!

I should have that stuff at my doorstep by mid of next week.

Galaxy - my thoughts and prayers were with you and your loved ones yesterday. It´s been a little over 6 months now since my dad passed away and my thoughts are with him every day since. I really miss not having been  able to say goodbye to him.

Nothing much planned for the rest of the day - I may drop by my friends house to w*rk a little on that critter and shoot a snap or two of it.

Have a nice weekend!

Good Morning!!!

I’ll have what Ulrich had please. Thank you.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 56.

295 mph!!!?? No wonder Ray gets so much done in a day.Laugh

Galaxy- I’m glad the day was a nice one. Also glad someone came to the service.Angel

Jeff- Other than it’s in Louisiana and it won’t rust, there has to be a reason that a house is stainless steelHmm. Maybe some paranoid guy built it and has maybe doomsday survival stuff. Or, maybe it’s got some outer space alien reasoningIdea. This could be your chance dip into your other interests and throw a little sci fi into the fray.  I think I like that one though the first may provide for a better chance to find something useful later on. Or would it? hmmmmmm. Contact an alien. Hmmmmm. Just a thought.

What will I do today?Confused  Eat I do know, aaaand……burn. No it rained so that’s outGrumpy. I do have another load of laundry to do and more pruning of the weeds, Indifferent I mean plants/flowers that come back every year that you have to get this years growth gone like um…peonies. Whatever you call that. I did get those (peonies) cut back in Sept. NEXT year I hope to have the retired mans yard. I hoped for that the next spring when I retired in fall of 2004, but THAT didn’t happen. I’ve had less time for yardwork since I retired than before!

Speaking of Peonies, have you ever noticed there are at least 3 ways they are pronounced? Pee-o-neze, Pie-neze (Brenda’s way) and Pennies. And the person will adamantly insist their pronunciation is correct. Very few words are as strongly defended in the pronunciation department as Peonies.  Another is gnocchi. Oh my gosh. Say that one different and you’d a thought you committed a mortal sin. They even have a way that is pronounced that I don’t see how they even get it. Yonkies Tongue Tied They’ll argue it’s right though.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

I have no idea as to why it was built or why it's stainless steel. I only know that it was built and was the first house to be built here. It pre-dates the creation of the lake which was created in 1961. I wish I had a photo of it to show. Another unusual home in this area that I plan to use in the game is a geodesic dome. The thing looks like a golf ball pushed half into the ground. The most unusual home here though is the one you can't see. No, it's not invisible. It's underground. Hard to do here unless it's buried in a hilltop and high hills are in short supply here.

Good Afternoon Gang!

It is a somewhat grayish day, but dry. Went over to my friend´s house for a sip of coffee and a chat. I also took a few snaps of the critter.

Starting to look like my avatar - ain´t it?

I am not really happy with that red, but it´ll disappear under a heavy coat of rust and grime. Also the loco body will receive a heavy dose of beating and rusting - those critters never received good care.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup and lots of dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR Mug.

Ulrich, the critter is looking excellent!  That's in what scale?

YouGottaWanna.... ROFL!  Yes, as others pointed out it was Miles Per Gallon!  I'm driving a PiP.  Still confused?  Plug in Prius...  I plug in at my sisters house while I'm there and get about a 90% charge (about 11.4 miles of EV)  It is a 16 mile trip back home and is basically downhill, although this area is rolling hills so I am continually going up and down hill.  If it was a level route I might be able to make the whole trip using just electric and it would register 999mpg (miles per GALLON) on the computer.  Now that 295mpg doesn't take into consideration the cost of the charge (at our rates about 25¢ for 2kW).  However the trip used just enough gasoline (Dinosaur dung) to give me 4 miles of distance and warm up the system.  Yesterday, the trip home was just under 18 miles as I had to drive down to the lake for my allergy shot.  So...  I got roughly 14 miles for a cost of 25¢.  The other 4 miles cost me 42¢ for the dinosaur dung.  You get the point.  At home I make my own Electricity from solar on the roof, and all the rest of the power I use is on a 100% green program (Solar, wind, and non invasive hydro).  Oh, BTW, top speed on the PiP is only 112mph...  Limited by the computer to protect the main traction motor and the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine).  Now if I had bought a Volt, I could make the entire trip up and back on electric only....  But, the PiP serves my total needs for a vehicle better than the Volt would.  If you want better performance how about this one Concept One?  That one goes a bit faster!  190 mph with a 0 to 60mph time of 2.8 seconds...  Sports  1088 hp.  So much for the golf cart mentality! Smile, Wink & Grin

Got to get moving, lots of stuff to do today!

 Morning All,

Currently it is 32 with an expected high of 71 under sunny skies.

This is my weekend off, so I have one load of laundry going, and only need to do that one today. After getting some cooking done (see next paragraph) I plan to w**k on model railroad stuff most of the day.

I had to work last weekend, so my daughters and I missed the Great Italian Festival in Reno which we usually go to every year. As I am FBI (Full Blooded Italian) we decided to have our own here at my house. We will each be making two dishes, and have a grand time stuffing our faces with some food, appetizer type, that we only make on special occasions. I am making Stuffed Mushrooms, and Sausage Peppers and Onions. My daughter Amy will be making a Sausage, Rice, and Spinach bake, and Teppler (very similar to Funnel cake) for desert. My daughter Jen will be making Stuffed Artichokes, and I forget what else.

Jen may not make it though. Her boyfriend's 6 year old twin step brothers were with their nanny walking down a street near San Francisco, when an elderly gentleman, in his 90's drove onto the sidewalk and pinned one of the boys against a building. He has several broken bones and at last report was in serious condition. So prayers are appreciated for him.

Ulrich - I like the progress on the little loco.

  Prayers to all in need.

Dennis - very fascinating world you live in. No disrespect meant but why would anyone want to live in that extreme cold ? How do you live like that ? What is the difference between having fur on the inside vs. the outside ?

Just for the record, the vast majority of Canadians do not wear Mucklucks. The vast majority of Canadians live within 300 miles of the US/Canada Border. North of that tends to be a lot colder than down south. We typically wear the same clothes that people in the Northern States along the border.

In summer we can and do get temperatures upwards of 90 F depending on what area of the country you are living in. East and west coasts are much more moderate because of the influence of the Pacific and Atlantic. The prairies get down to minus 35 in the winter but only for a week at a time usually. Average daytime highs in winter on the prairies seem to be around minus 10 to minus 20.

How do we live in this climate? Just dress for it. Parkas made with eiderdown linings, insulated boots for the really cold days and gloves. We are used to it that's all. We also do not have the humidity that many have south of the border.

It's hard to talk in generalities regarding the climate because the country is so vast. We are the second largest country in the world with a population of only 36 million.

As for fur on the inside, it's warmer that way because it doesn't get ice coated which decreases the insulating value.

Cheers

Dennis

Yep. And I can tell you from my knowledge of Easter Island (been there and seen it) that the photo is a fabrication.

*

I was looking through some old MS-DOS software here and I found my old Zork I CD. I put it in the computer and it still works fine. Played Zork I for a while this morning. I then looked into the 'Extras' directory (this CD was put together by a friend of mine, not Infocom). There I found several things of interest including the online link where I could download the other Zork games. Since the time this CD was burned the link evidently was changed as I didn't find it on the first try. A quick search led me right to the current link. The downloads were in the form of ZIP files so you better believe they were very well scanned before I opened them. So now I have Zork II and Zork III. I'd heard of a fourth game and after a bit of searching I found and downloaded Zork Zero. It's the only Zork game to have any kind of graphics. So now I can play Zork again. It may give me some ideas for my own game as well.

evening all

Maybe this time the site won't crash on me!

Well, well, well. FIL is Having NONE of this "wait a year " stuff before doing anyhting. He is GUNGHO. He was after MOH to get rid of stuff he THINKS belongs to MOH as well as MIL's stuff!!!. I will tell MOH to go tomorrow to donate whatever FIL THINKS is MOHs to make him happy for now. MIL's stuff is NOT far behind, though, so If MOH wants an item or two, Best claim it NOW.

Of course part is he wants to re-move back into the master BR, and alll her stuff is preventing that. The hospital bed is out of the way now so a regular bed can go back in. FIL was sleeping on the rollaway in the MBR as easy and quick and access to the upstairs TV at night.

Meanwhile after a decade, my father still does not want to part with my Mother's stuff. He says when he is gone, I can then get rid of whatever I want.

Well we did a few errands and slept a  lot, exhaustion and nerve-releasers, I am sure.

Wish we had a PIP. We spent over a tank of gas at about 22 MPG this week doing the funeral. Fortunately it is only about $3.50/gallon here. GOne down some.

Tomorrow is another day...

Have a good evening, folks:

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a hot cup of decaf would be great right now!

Just lit the wood stove.  First time this season.  Need to take the damp chill out of the house.  Currently 50°F outside with a cold rain.  Low will be in the low 40's overnight and won't get much warmer tomorrow.  Talking a high of 56° is all.  Sure hope they have the kerosine stoves working on the cabooses tomorrow.  I'll be bringing my heavy Carhartt winter jacket just in case.  Will also take along a lighter jacket but plan to wear my long sleeve museum shirt as part of my uniform.

New record today for the trip home from my sister's house.... Big SmileBig Smile  309 mpg!  Got to do some serious hypermiling as there was very little traffic for the most part.  That means the trip home cost me approximately 25¢ of electricity and 40¢ for the gas.  My sister tells me her old Corrolla gets "Great" gas milage.  For its age it does.  It supposedly can get 24mpg I think.  So if I was driving her little car the trip would have cost me $2.47 in theory at least.  Of course according to my sister it is also a lot longer from her house to my house and back than it is from my house to her house and back....  Yesterday I ran out of canned cat food for her cats.  Now she knows how many days she will be gone and said she bought lots of cans of food to last the whole time.  She is an Art Teacher so she never had to learn to count I guess.  Being a Music teacher I learned to count to 4!  She was 5 cans of food off so I bought 10 cans (on sale) for her so she will have a few left over as she will have to recover from Jet Lag before she will go to the store...

Galaxy, I think there is no right or wrong on when to get rid of the MIL's things.  For some people it really hurts to see some of those things, and for some it helps to be surrounded by the things that can bring back good memories.  For me I got rid of all of my wife's clothes within a few weeks of her death.  Everything I touched had her scent on it and it made me miss her terribly.  To this day (26 years later) there are other things I still keep out where I can see them.  Photos of her grace the walls of my living room and several of her paintings and wall hangings are still displayed, and I still use the hand crocheted comforter when I want to get warm in the living room.  They give me comfort now.  Try to get FIL to keep some special things of hers even if he hides them away for the moment...  I have two beautiful hand made dolls my wife made that I am holding onto until the time is right to give to my granddaughters.  The older one is ready now, but my son says to wait another year so the younger one would be old enough to understand and cherish hers!

Time to give Blackie his pill.

Later!

morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!!!

Today is Sunday, October 20th, 2013!!!

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!

Today's fun limericks:

An elderly man called Keith

Mislaid his set of false teeth -

They'd been laid on a chair,

He'd forgot they were there,

Sat down, and was bitten beneath.

There once was a man named Joe
Who had very crusty toes
He had corns and bunions
That smelled like onions
And that's how the story goes

Today's weird words:

ecbole: n. (Rhet.) A digression in which a person is introduced speaking his own words

sabaton: n. {1300–50; Middle English < Old Provençal, =sabat(a) shoe + -onfoot-covering as part of suit of armour

Infelicific - advb.  To make unhappy

Hi Folks, it's been awhile since my last visit.   We almost have our home finished, the contractors say about another week and they will be out of here.  It's been a long process but the end result is worth it.  My layout was put on hold for the last few months due to having zero time to work on it.  I have accumulated about 40 building kits so when I get back to it I'm going to be busy.  I went to the Bowmanville Ontario train show with my friend Dave(TA462) in his new Aventador.  I felt like a rock star with everyone waving at us.  I picked up a couple things at the show and had a great time looking at the layouts there.  Shows are a great motivator.  With winter coming and the house done I'm going to have a lot of time to focus on my layout and maybe be a little more active on the forum.

Good morning. It's 47° with 100% humidity. The high will be 75° and will feel like 79°. It'll be sunny today.

Woke up this morning to find that fall has indeed fallen. It was 45° outside but about 70° inside with the exception of the office where I am now. It's not tied into the central ac/heat the rest of the house has. Instead it has an ac/heat window unit. I have it turned to heat and cranked up to 80°. Until it heats up in here I have two T-shirts on.

I have no set plans for today. As one of my relatives was fond of saying, 'You have no idea what's going to happen so setting plans in stone is like pouring a concrete foundation before you know where the homes walls will be.'. Not surprisingly he built houses for a living. I may do a bit more planning for more work on 'Native Fury' later. I need to lay out the blocks for the final subcharts of part two.
