Forum Member. Jeffrey Wimberly's surgery
Posted by Heartland Division CB&Q on Monday, August 12, 2013 6:55 PM

Jeffrey, of course, is well known to most of you, and I suspect many already know he has long suffered from diabetes. Many also know he was scheduled for surgery today.

Jeff's Dad called me a short while ago. Jeff's leg was amputated below the knee, and the surgery went as well as can be expected. He may be in the hospital for a week or so. Next, he will be at his Dad's residence for maybe about six weeks. I was able to talk very briefly with Jeff on the phone. He, of course, is drugged now, but he certainly appreciates everyone's concern.

If anyone wishes to post Get Well wishes in this thread, I will gladly relay them to Jeff.

Meanwhile, Jeff's Sundown Shops are closed, and no new "Frankendiesels" are currently in production. His Midland Gulf Railway and his Louisana and Arkansas have temporarily suspended operations. His creativity is quite remarkable, and I look forward to the day when he will return to the forum.

Praying for Jeff's health and a swift recovery from surgery. Angel

That's really sad news, indeed.  Here's hoping Jeffrey has a speedy recovery.

Garry,

Thanks for checking on Jeffrey and conveying our best wishes for a quick and issue-free recovery from such a life-altering operation. I have well-controlled Type II diabetes, so thank my lucky stars it is amenable to medication. Others are not so lucky. If you're middle-aged, you should check with your doctor on where your blood-sugar numbers are.

I'm certain Jeffrey will find all the tractive effort he needs to overcome this.Yes

[BTW, has anyone ever noticed our smilies have cars and planes, but no trains?!? SadEmbarrassed]

Thanks, Garry.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, the amputation was planned.  His diabetes has left it weak and uncomfortable, and he feels he will be more comfortable and more mobile once he has a prosthesis fitted.

So, let's wish him well through this "transition era" and continue to hope for a brighter future.

Garry,

Thanks for the up-date on Jeff.  I have been wondering all weekend how he would do on what is a major surgery.

Jeff is one tough fellow and with his great determination I'm sure he will turn this into a positive. His attitude is truly inspirational.

Hoping you get back to the rails soon Jeffery and God bless.  Maybe  you will have time to think up a small operational layout  for a hospital bed.  At least weather a freight car in between nurses bothering you.
