Went to my fathers place this afternoon to wait on the cable guy. And no, it wasn't Larry. Would have been much more fun if it had been. He was supposed to show up sometime between 1pm and 5pm. Yeah, one of those appointments. By the time he showed up at 4pm I had already run down the problem. It was the remote for the cable box. To say it was bad would be an understatement. If you punched in 05 it went to channel 4. Hit channel up and nothing, channel down and nothing. Punch in 50 and it went to 55. Punch in 54 and it went 05. Punch in 06 and it turned off the TV. Get the picture? I brought in the remote from the great room and tried it. Everything worked perfectly. Changed the battery in the bad remote and tried it. My ears started itching. About that time the guy showed up, tried a few things, did a few tests and came to the same conclusion I had come to. He pressed the power button on the bad remote and my ears started behaving themselves. He got a new remote from his truck and tuned it to the TV and that was that. Problem fixed. About twenty minutes after he left my father and step mother returned from their business in town. My father had a doctors appointment and my step mother had some shopping to do. After his appointment my father took my mothers Pontiac G6 hardtop convertible to one of the car lots in town and sold it for $9K. That was better than letting it sit in the yard and collect dust. He didn't like driving it and I had a hard time driving it because of my foot. The only reason he bought it was because my mother liked convertibles. When he and my step mother got back home we all went to Los Mayos for dinner. No layout work today as I predicted earlier.

Evening gang!!
Flo,,,, & please, then some Ice Cream for desert!
Got a little railfanning between clients today!
Ist the Midland gang is swapping cars on the CSX interchange, takes a little while to pump up air.
Even with 6 of the 7 GP38's the Midland has! (thank goodness the "ugly one" was back in the yard)
And this car makes 2 points. #1, even the prototype gets reporting marks on crooked and #2 why is it that hoodlums have plenty of time for "artwork" like this, but a railfan with a camera gets run off the property in minutes??
Anyway, this was the highlight of my day. I would have stayed longer but my client called me and asked if I was still coming!! Oooops,,better get a move on!!! Darn cell phone!!
Ulrich Sorry to hear your family is being a pain again. Drive em crazy,,win the election!
Mike, love the old tractors. My regular tractor/mower is 6 years older than me, and the wife's tractor/mower is only 6 years younger than me! There's more steel in an old tractor than in 2 new ones!
Curt, nice little bit of surgery!
Ken, that looks fixable from here!
Jeffrey, does that oil rig work? Looks like it could be animated!

Good morning - it should be a bit cooler today in New England, after a few sweltering days. I played hockey last night, so I got 2 hours of winter to recharge my heat-depleted body.
Our daughter will be coming home for a visit this weekend, and my wife will be returning from her parents' place in Florida as well, so we'll be back to being one small happy family for a day or so. That may mean little train work over the weekend, but it will also mean a few nice meals.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good Morning!!!
Coffee and a waffle please with strawberries and whipped cream on top. Thanks
Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1pm. Some storms could be severe, with heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Locals are saying batten down the hatches, it could get nasty.
Love the tractor pictures. Most days I wished I’d just w**ked on the old Cub Cadet instead of getting the new Deere cause it sure is a good one and I guess the sentimental value, but like I said, I just don’t need another project and no good place to do it either. Besides, old IH decks didn’t cut real good anyway. More like a roughcut mower than a finish mower and mine is no exception. This new one cuts great as I expected.
Another day of odds and ends. Keeping an eye on the radar to schedule things.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 77° with 93% humidity. The high will be 95°.I may be able to get some layout related work done today. There's a number of empty boxes under the layout that have to be moved and tossed out. They're just taking up space that I need to be able to move around under there. My niece is supposed to me notifying me about when she wants the yard mowed. I hope it's not today.I located a brand new power supply for the Apple IIe. And I mean brand new. Never been out of the factory box. It was manufactured by Atlaz and is guaranteed to work. There was one left out of five so I grabbed it. I should have it on or before July 1st.
Good Afternoon,
just a short visit to enjoy a cup of coffee with friends.
I am getting ready for another party meeting some 100 miles away from here. I have to jump in and chair it, as the chap whom we had planned to do it, has become ill. I had hoped to get a little rest today - sigh.
Won´t be back much before 2am - big sigh!
Tomorrow is a meeting where I will have to give a speech on the future of the Euro - could be a short one, as there is not much of a future for it
Have a good one!

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Pumpkin Seed Flax Granola with blueberries and fresh strawberries on top to go along with my dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug, please and thank you.
Rather cloudy and hazy day outside here in the Finger Lakes today. Not too mention humid and warm.... High will be 80°F with a chance of later this afternoon. June has not been nearly as good a month for generating Electricity as I had hoped. I will take a meter reading early this afternoon before I head out to camp.
Last night my son stopped over and I took him out to dinner at the Belhurst Castle's, Stonecutters. Very high on the list of "must visit" dining if you ever visit Geneva, NY. They have two dining area's. Stonecutters is the newest and is more a soups, sandwiches, and salads type of cuisine. They pair meals with suggestions from their own winery's list. I had a cup of Clam and Corn Chowder soup followed by their Pulled Pork (Slow roasted free range pork complimented with smoky red wine barbeque sauce, New York State extra sharp cheddar and broccoli slaw. Served on a toasted onion roll.) paired up with a glass of their fine Dry Riesling. We then headed back to my house and worked on a bit of family genealogy, meaning we went through a bunch of old family photos. Matt found a couple dozen he wanted me to scan for him. Today he will be visiting his Great Aunt, who is the last living person in her generation on his Mother's side of the family and later my sister. Thursday he has a business meeting in Rochester and then Friday flies home to Chicago. It has been great to have him home for a few days!
Hope you all have a great day wherever you are!

Turned out today was grass mowing day. The grass had grown four plus inches since the 19th (seven days ago) and no way could it be let go for another week. It took nearly four hours to cut. Anymore work today is out of the question.
Afternoon All,
Currently 76 with an expected high of 89 under sunny skies. We are in for a heat streak. Supposed to top 101 on Sunday.
Day off today, so I have a load of laundry going. Did a little grocery shopping yesterday, so the rest of the day will be devoted to w**king on the layout, if nothing else pops up.
Prayers to all in need.

Afternoon guys,
Had a few things I wanted to do on the layout today but have been feeling a little "off" today with a bit of a upset stomach. Not too bad now but I don't think I'm going to start anything, might just have something small to eat and try to get to bed early. I have been sleeping bad the last few days and maybe have 6 hours if that in three days so I'm sure that is also contributing to feeling cruddy.
Tired and sore from the workout on the tractor today. Hopefully if I'm not hurting too bad tomorrow I'll be able to get some layout work in even if it's throwing out some empty boxes. Progress is progress no matter how small.Ordered the new power supply for my Apple IIe this morning and it's on it's way. I should have it by the 1st. It's a six amp job, a good upgrade from the three amp one that's in it now.Time to call it a night. see y'all tomorrow.

Thanks Mr B,,,I'll see if I can duplicate that shot in 1:87 this weekend!!
Been running hard since 5:30 this morning,,,plus temps were in the 90s today. In and out of the car with about 20 stops today,,by the time I got back to the office at 2:30 I was bushed!! Tell me again why I have a black car with a huge glass panel in the roof?? Too Hot!
the bed is calling,,,,catch ya tomorrow~
Evening fellow diners!
Cold beer if you please ...any chips and salsa behind the counter?
Wow...I am up in Niagara-on-the-Lake Ontario Canada, weather is very pleasant compared to southern Pennsylvania. Went railfanning today...my friend got me so turned around driving hither and yon... I had/have no idea where we were . But, we saw some CN and CP freight trains headed north out of the U.S. and south into the U.S....no Via rail which disappointed me (I guess it's limited service down in the Niagara Peninsula and we were in the wrong hours or days). But...we plan on hitting at least one Via Rail run before I head back south. Went to the shipping locks in St. Catharines, Ontario...my goodness what a sight to see those big freighters squeeze through the locks! Heading even farther north for a couple nights to hopefully catch some Ontario Northland freight locomotives...so I may be unable to attend some diner chats.
Anyway...just wanted to check in at the "Diner" to let all know that I am alive and well and miss the banter.
I hope my fellow diners are well.
Happy modeling!
Don.

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!!!
Good morning. It's 74° with 100% humidity. The high will be 95°.95.It's so humid here this morning it sounds like there a major rain shower in the a/c unit. Looks like it's going to be another hot one today. I think I may be able to get in some layout work today. The pain in my back and shoulders should permit me to do some light work at least but I have to try to keep it to fifteen pounds or less. I don't know of anything else that'll be going on here today.
Coffee and some pork pot stickers please, thanks.
Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Got 2” in a couple hours yesterday after I left here. Locals give a 40” chance today. NWS doesn’t mention it.
V8 Dennis- Careful up there on the roof. I never did think swamp coolers cooled well. Or at least like I was used to with actual AC. I do see the benefit of the added humidity, but it always seemed odd to me that they used the biggest water using things in the most water deprived areas.
Welp, if it doesn’t rain, then tag I’m it on the mower today. It’s already very humid out there now. Went out to set the trash cans and whoa! Opened the door and ran into a wall of it. Almost couldn’t get out of the house it was so thick .
Things are gonna start to fire up here today of or tomorrow for us. The Village 4th of July celebration is Sunday night ( the village of Williamsville rarely (read never) holds Independence Day celebrations on actual Independence Day. Don’t want to interfere with anyones’ plans you know) so since the wife is in charge of THAT too, we’ll be most likely jumping through hoops at the last minute over the weekend.
Hm, battery just quit in the mouse. I wondered what that flashy light meant. When it goes out, boy it goes out quick! (disappears for a few minutes) Wouldn't you know it, no AA's. Oh I got plenty of AAA's of course. Oh well. Old one that has the whacked out scroll wheel still w**ks as a point and click basic mouse so I can get through this. Amazing how we are used to certain ways we do things and how obnoxious it is when things change. Spoiled.
Best get movin if I wanna get anything done before w**k tonight. And I've GOT to get a AA battery. I keep spinning that dad blamed scroll wheel!!! I can't stop!!!
Good MorningReal muggy out and warm...76F going to go up to 80 feeling like 100F....oh..and those ol' t'underin'boomers as well.Got to attend to some more interviews and such....have a good one!!
Morning everyone.
Not feeling great now. Have to take today off from work. Hope to get more work done on the Spit today and possibly get it done. Will also look to get more work done on the Typhoon.

Zoning officer (old friend of mine) was just here to go over my plans for the new fence. Seems I was right and we will be able to do just what we wanted to do with the fence... He suggested that we go with using 4 x 4 fence posts put in to below the frost line rather than the steel system. He says the steel post systems for the wooden fences he has seen all have started to lean withing 4 or 5 years. We have a deep frost line here so I think it best to do it right the first time. Anyway, all we will need is a simple building permit and get it done! I will get started on the site plan for it next week.
Need to get out to camp. Still have 3 tent sites to get finished.... Calling for some possible bad storms later this afternoon, so I want to get as much done ASAP, Catch you all later!
Morning All,
Currently 60 with an expected high of 97 today. Going to hit 105 on Monday. Heat wave is here.
Not much going on with me today, except w**k and Skype with my son tonight.

What a nice cool night. It was around 60 when I got up, with the fan just bringing in all that reasonable air. Our heat wave is over, and today's high should be in the low 70s. No 90s in the 10-day forecast.
Just heard on the radio, There is a major problem on a rail bridge in Calgary.
Don't know whether it is CP or CN, but my best guess would be CP, they had placed a number of loaded tank cars on the bridge to stabilize it while the river was in flood stage.
The bridge has now sagged two feet and is continuing to go down. They are hooking cables on to the cars and the rest of the story is yet to come. The environmental team is pretty unhappy about this situation. None of the cars are leaking at this point but who knows after a fall into the river. Stand by:::: I'm thinking that ChooChooWillie will keep us informed.
By the way Choo Choo Willie, did you used to have a model railroad shop in Red Deer??? If you did, I have been there a number of times while my Son was attending College there.

last mountain & eastern hoggerBy the way Choo Choo Willie, did you used to have a model railroad shop in Red Deer??? If you did, I have been there a number of times while my Son was attending College there.
I spent enough money at Choo Choo Willies that I should have owned it but nope I wasn't the owner. It's been gone a long long time now. We don't have much here in Red Deer in the way of a Model RR shop and the one we do have is a Bicycle Shop as well so what does that tell you.
As if Calgary needed another disaster but they have on with the tank cars. My question is why would they load down the bridge in the first place with full tank cars full of hydrocarbon???? Why not those big grain cars or lumber cars. At least that wouldn't turn into an environmental issue.
The last I heard, what that the bridge had stopped sinking and that CP had brought in some heavy lift cranes. If I were in charge of the incident, the first thing I would order done would be the offloading of the tank cars to help mitigate the river pollution issue, then move the cars. I'm familiar with the particular bridge and it's going to be a bear-cat to get at.
Keep you all posted as things transpire.
Cheers
Dennis
