Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

VINCENT: How'd THAT Duplicolor and Rustoleum work-out for you? I'm strongly thinking of stripping and repainting an Athearn CF-7 they botched big-time. Imagine THAT Hmm. Anyhow, of all things, John Deere yellow looks to be "right," for the job (Iowa Northern). I can get it in rattle cans, or a small bottle of touch-up paint THAT I figure could be thinned for spraying. Any thoughts? Advice? Anything THAT went to crap on you with these paints? It looks pretty darned good from the pic, doesn't seem to have clogged up the details any. YesYes

Good night everybody,

My friend, Gus, is not doing well. His reaction to the bite from a brown recluse spider has become more serious and his kidneys are acting up. He may need to be transferred to another hospital. I'm sad this has happened.

Garry,

I missed this first time through....but I  lit an extra prayer candle for him..those spider bites are nothing to fool around with.

hope he proceeds well.

Seems I missed it as well. I hope he gets better soon. Those brown recluse spiders are nasty!

Yikes!! Hope he gets better as well!!

Thanks everybody for commenting and concern. ... Gus had a very rough day. The poison seems to be affecting every cell in his body. Heart, kidneys, and other organs are impacted. All of his skin is discolored, and much of it is blisters. He can barely move his legs.  .... I have learned the venom from a brown recluse spider is much more toxic than the venom of a rattle snake.

Other than that, Shelley and I visited her side of the family in Nashville, TN. We just got home. The females in her family definitely talk extensively.

Vincent ..... Your paint job on the B-unit looks good. Perhaps, you, Jeff, and others can give some advice to BN24 Gary for repainting his Alco units.

No layout progress from me today. It's good to see so many people in the DIner!

Oma is improving thank you for asking Jim!

on a side note, due to the very volatile nature of the times I'm going to be placing my N scale stuff back in their cases and storing them until I feel I'm ready to build a layout. I'm abandoning my 4' x 6', and am currently unsure of what will happen to my ti"N"y project layout. I'll still try to participate, but something that was said the other day hit a fuse and I've been in a downward spiral. so I guess because I won't be bothering with my layout I'll have time to work on repainting locos from various donor roads into SP&S colors.

I sincerely hope it wasn't something I said.

Everybody has one behind them, and an opinion is like it, {that is: we all have one}.

Don't get discouraged, and DON'T  put it away.GO ahead with it!

I've been told on here that my 3.5x5.1foot HO scale layout is "soo small, not a serious layout", etc. I let it go!

TAKE the suggestions  you like and use them

Take the suggestions you don't like and discard them.

Easier said than done, when it is something, that, like you said, sparks a fuse, or burns our rubber!

Everyone here has a  sincere wish to help, and some are overzealous { even I can be yes-as we all can be}

So don't give up! DOn't give in!

Get on with it and Go!

BN#24, hope I didn't say anything that did it.

Good morning.

Some work tonight, but doesn't look as if I'll be working late tonight.

Went to Elmira this weekend, and got the two seasons of Dogfights. Been looking for them for a while now. Also got a book called "An Ace of the Eighth". Haven't started it yet, but will soon.

Happy Monday morning!  I'm actually glad to be back at the office, where the air is filtered.  I seem to be very sensitive to pollen this year, not exactly a new thing, but far more serious than I've seen before.  I felt terrible all weekend, but my lungs and head are much clearer now.

I got a bit of trainwork done, but I'm working on some of those slow jobs where I've got to glue things together and wait for the glue to set before the next step.  Almost as much fun as watching paint dry, but, well, that will be the next step.....

Coffee is warm though!  Just watching the country-side roll by out the dinner window.

Speaking of which, how many of you have have actually had breakfast on a dinning car?  Ain't nothing better!

Good Morning!!!

Whew! Smokey in here.(cough, cough)

Coffee and some left over….wait, what am I talking about? This isn”t my refrigerator, I’ll take some fresh Mu Shu Pork please, thanks.

Sunny, with a high near 68. Hey’re still calling for 86 tomorrow (or “near 90” from some). It’s a wonder we ain’t all sick.

Jim- LaughYes Brenda knows I’m trying to learn Cantonese or more accurately Gwongdong wa.  And no, she doesn’t believe it’s so I can flirtLaugh. Besides, Suki speaks English well enough to flirtWhistling Laugh. I have said for years I would like to learn Cantonese so I know what they are saying. I know how waitresses talk sometimes, just in the back where the customers can’t hear them. So I always wondered what they would say if they think the customers couldn’t understand them. (so far the very little I have been able to make out is not that exciting. One needed an aspirin I assume for a headache and another they were saying a bus was coming in. 2 actually.Sleep Bo-riiiing) The deal is, they probably really treat me no different than anyone who is nice to them. I treat them sorta like you would a waitress at your favorite little restaurant. Most others just treat them like they are the wait staff. Suki just responds like any one would who’s come in and you get to know them a bit even if it’s just as a waitress. They get to know what you want to drink because I always order Mr Pibb etc etc. In fact, there is a couple that comes in to the restaurant here in town and all the waiter has to say is…”your night, or Peggy’s”. That means they rotate times of what they want on their pizza and they never say anything more than “His” or “Hers”. Another couple it's just the question "the usual?" The order the same thing all the time. Same thing there. She just notices that Suki will wave and say hi at some point even if it’s across the room where as the others usually do not unless you walk right past them or they are you waitress. How this all started was because of the one called Nancy who isn’t there anymore. SHE’s the one who would find her way over to our section at some point even if it wasn’t hers.  And especially after the time she left her section across the restaurant while we were both up getting refills on food, which Brenda claims she left just to “check out a theory” and Nancy made a beeline over to our table, cleared our plates, refilled my drink and wiped off my side of the table and seat which was not dirty and if, she claims, any side needed wiped off….it was hers. The stories go on.  I admit Nancy was a bit questionable, but hey, a pretty young girl, and she was prettyWink (which is probably why it irritated Brenda so much), pays attention to you….? Hey, I may be old, but I don’t think any of us are THAT oldLaugh. But none of the others really show anything different to me than most others. Suki does seem to be a little more attentive to the table I’m at, but no more than anyone would if a customer was more known.

 SurpriseHoly Cow!….enough of that.

Anyway Jim, not knowing anything about Cherokee, and not knowing what dinosaur is in Chinese, it very well could be a combination or even a single word that really has nothing to do with what we would think. It could be “Big Bones” or "dead giant" and the translator just knows that they refer to a dinosaur when they say that so they dub that as the word for dinosaur.

Ray- Yes!  Like thatLaugh.

Yammered to muchZip it! best get a move on.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Gary - it pays off to take a break from your plans and just sit back and relax. I bet all of us know this feeling of having second thoughts about the layout we are building. Guess how I know this! I am not only having second thoughts, but third, fourth or even fifth! MY budget is really zilch, so I want to spend the little I have on the "right" thing, but, please, would someone tell me which is the right one of the many ideas I have...

Cheer up mate, it´ll work out!

yeah, I understand but here lately it seems like my poor trains keep landing me in trouble than helping me out of it. I'll still buy locos and rolling stock, I think I'm just going to wait until I have my own house so I can do the SP&S justice by have a shelf layout that runs almost the same length (post selective compression) as the real thing.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 Special, eggs over easy, bacvon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast.  Oh, keep the dark roast coffee coming, my R&GV RR mug seems to have a hole in it...

Went to see the vampire first thing this morning.  Then stopped in at Water Street Cafe and had exactly what I ordered above...  Looking out the window I see little white things falling out of the sky.  Barry!  Did you send this my way?  Oh Galaxy's fault, huh!  We have gone from a Freeze watch for tonight to a full fledged Freeze Warning.  Doubt it will actually amount to much as the temp will be at 32°F for less than an hour over night and there should be enough heat in the ground now to protect most tender plants...  Time will tell.

I have a lot of very sore muscles this morning (as I figured I would).  Too much climbing and standing while w*rking yesterday at camp.  I will be checking out getting a new mattress early this afternoon.  My old one is over 20 years old and is not letting me get a good nights sleep.  I toss and turn and can't find a comfortable position.

Gary...  What Ulrich said!  Hang in there and don't listen to anyone who sits at the rivet counter here in the diner.  Huh, well yeah, I sit there sometimes, but only when I think I actually know what I'm talking about...  I know that isn't often, yes....  Even if you put the plans for your layout aside for a while, keep fiddling with stuff, and keep your interest going.  And keep hanging out in here!

Garry, sorry to hear Gus isn't responding well to treatment.  Brown Recluse bites are nasty, nasty things!  Will keep prayers going his way for a full recovery!!!

Have the annual meeting and honors dinner for the local Boy Scout Council this evening.  I will be providing chauffeur service for an old friend of mine who can l longer drive.  Have to find my Silver Beaver Award to wear...  Only time I ever put it on is for this yearly meeting.

Catch you all later.

Good morning. It's 68° with 43% humidity. It'll be sunny with a high of 82°.

Plans for today include going into town. I have to go to the bank then to the pharmacy. Other than that I'll be doing some more cleanup on the layout. A bit at a time, a piece here and a piece there.

The word for today is yági. That can be needle, fork, nail. One word, three uses.

Currently 42 and chllly.

If this was February..I'd say warm and toasty...but it is NOT.

There were, as RAY pointed out, flurries this Am...especially hilltops and higher elevations!!!

And the frost warnings continue for tonight..20 degrees tonight folks ..slightly warmer tomorrow at 55 I think.

More like Late March than middle May. Though as a kid, I never looked for spring until May anyway, that way if it didn't get here till then, I wasn't disappointed like i am now. Almost turned on the heat this morning,...1 degree cooler and I mighta. Might tomorrow morning.

Deliveries arrive either with today's mail or tomorrow at the latest, they are in town! Goodie!

well we take the caravan in for repairs..I have  a price in mind if over that we don;t fix as the gauges are working now...we will sell for $1k and be done as is. Take the money with some $$ from parents and buy a newER vehicle like an 05.Even with a small 2 yr loan will help. Hafta.

well best get to chores..and waiting for the mail..always late on Mondays..probably only get bills today and the goodies tomorrow.

Good afternoon, bag 'o cheeseburgers, sack o' fries, bucket of Coke to go please and thank-you, gotta go shoot high school soccer here in a bit.

GARY BN-SP&S: RAY said, "Hang in there and don't listen to anyone who sits at the rivet counter here in the diner.  Huh, well yeah, I sit there sometimes, but only when I think I actually know what I'm talking about..." I'm one who hangs out at the rivet counter here, and I hope it wasn't my offering un-solicited advice THAT tripped your fuse. I know some "serious modelers" look down their noses at anybody who would DARE to brush-paint a locomotive or anything else for THAT matter. Believe me Pal, I'm not one of them! Heck, I use whatever does the job. I've used rattle cans, I've got an airbrush (sidelined in need of a replacement part) and I've brush painted right out of the bottles and jars. Anyhow, I just hope I wasn't the source of your short-circuit. This hobby can get kinda maddening, for many reasons. Don't let critical jack wagons put you in the siding.

TERRY (In Wisconsin): I keep forgetting to say "thank you" for your Pfc son's service.

Afternoon guys

Just got back from work, and am waiting for the mail people to delivera package. BTW, I won all 4 of thos auctions I was watching last night. So I have 13 of the Walther's PS4000 coal gondola (walther's calls it a 50' coal gondola), and a newer athearn RTR thrall gondola. This is on top of the 20 or so MDC thrall gons. SO I have a fairly prototypical coal drag. At least as soon as I re-number and add stripes to the remaing MDC thralls.

Terry, the trees look good.

Chris, I used them straight from the can. The rustoleum goes on kinda thick (I probably should shoot farther away with it, a lot more came out than the duplicolor), but the duplicolor went on pretty smoothly.

There is a guy near me that has a very large HO scale layout in an out building he has........I asked him a few years ago how many trees he has on his layout.........

...........he said they stopped counting at............... 50,000.....................and he waved his hand in the direction of a small part of his layout.

I know some "serious modelers" look down their noses at anybody who would DARE to brush-paint a locomotive or anything else for THAT matter.

They'd have a permanent case of cross-eye with me! I brush paint, spray paint, finger paint, anything but use an airbrush. It's gotten to where I can hardly operate one anymore.

nah, it didn't have anything to do with #867 it was something else that someone said. Something they probably should not have said.

I have one basic rule I try my hardest to stand by. before judging other's work one shouldn't be afraid to share their own. Basically someone in a discussion the other day tripped that rule, I blew my fuse and now have just finished putting everything away. I'll just keep adding to my roster and will eventually work on ti"N"y . I'll try the three era thing on ti"N"y and see if I can pull it off.

Howdy everybody.

As I have said there are three active model railroaders at the lake here (Gus, Dan, and myself). Today, Dan and I went to see Gus at the hospital in Murray, KY (35 miles west of here).  As expected, he looked awful mostly because of his skin reaction to the spider poison. In the past 3 days, he's had kidney failure, heart failure, urinary infection, high fever, and so on. Doctor stopped in to see him. Good to hear his kidneys are coming back. Everything else seems to be stabilizing. Hopefully, he's past a turning point where recovery can begin. Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

No layout progress so far today from me.

I hope your friend pulls through heartland, spiders are ok but some of them are nasty little buggers.
