Ken, good to hear your daughter is okay after the surgery. the B&O hopper is 6 and 3/4 inches long from coupler to coupler. It's body is shorter than an HO scale 50' boxcar. The peabody thrall gon and the bathtub gon are the same as a 50' boxcar.
Say, does this guy look familiar ken:

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Evening folks, sure, what the hey, it's Friday night, I'll have one in a frosted mug please.
As far as a camera goes, the kids got me a Cannon PowerShot SD750, and it's great, WAY more bells and whistles than I can deal with. My only gripe is when I take pics of the layout, my trees have a yellow tint to them, and in person, they are a nice early summer green. As you approach my layout with the camera on, you can see in the display screen how the picture suddenly changes color, the closer I get. See:
These trees are not yellow, they are as green as the painted backdrop behind them. I suppose if I dig deep enough into the instruction manual, I'd find an adjustment. Anyway! Terry, a big sturdy handshake to your PFC. My son was active duty AF, now in reserves. He's been to all those places related to sand boxes, and more, a couple of times over. I have a nephew over there now, Army grunt......door kicker.....he contacts family when he can. By the way, I hear everything finally melted up your way! Have one me.... Anyway, gotta go, rain here all last night and today, so I managed to get back down to the layout. By the way, tomorrow I'll try and get some pics of the museum and ice cream parlor I talked about, and remember, no dessert after diner tomorrow night, as I'm taking eveyone to the ice cream parlor! Have a great night! Mike.

Good Evening Diners,
Ulrich, you win the rubber cigar!! Yes it was a 25NC and a very nice loco indeed in its dark green livery. It was built in 1953 and is a very good looking engine, sort of a cross between a European and N.A. loco. The tender was very long with a 14,500 gallon capacity which makes sense given the near desert conditions in some places. They said it ran at 60 mph even though the drivers are only 60". Good luck in your new career by the way. I am very interested in economics as is Garry and I have often wondered about the euro working in such varied economies. About 10 or 15 years ago some crazy economists here suggested that Canada adopt the USD as our currency and they were very serious. No offence to our southerly neighbours but it just wouldn't work for us.
Ray, I trust that decal is located right above the exhaust pipe.
Think I might take the drop sheet off the layout tomorrow as it is supposed to be a very cool day, as in 40F, so a little train time is in order. I would like to take the model of the Rovos Rail passenger car I bought for a little spin. They sold them as momentoes in the gift shop. They are HO and even have KD couplers. The detail is fairly good but not enough for the outrageous cost. Mind you they are made in South Africa and I bet they don't make very many.
Well time to head off the the land of nod.

Color and appearance is all about the light that is reflected from an object and what light is absorbed {that gives of the appearance color}.
MANY colors are a COMBINATION of tones and colors to get a specific coloring in appearance. FOr instance, yellow and blue make green, but there may be more yelow in it than blue, as is the case with your trees.
ALSO remember that LIGHT COLOR is different from PAINT color. Paint colors all mixed together make black, while all the spectrum colors of light together make white light....
Although the trees appear green under the ambien light, the camera/lighting is picking up the predominant underlying color of yellow-ishness. That is why their color is yellow rather than the green we see when looking at them in the room.

Good Morning Gang!
I hope I´ll get a little rest today. The last days have been rather tiring, both at the party front and the family front. Lots of legal matters to take care of - I am just glad my brother has taken up the brunt of it.
Janie, just coffee, please - I have to watch my weight
CN Charlie - yes, the class 25 nC´s are hefty beast for a narrow gauge loco. Just to show the others what we are talking about, here is a picture:
South African Railway had 50 of them under steam, built between 1953 and 1955. 11 of them were built by North British, the balance by Henschel in Germany. There was also a condensing locomotive of similar design, but they were converted to NC´s (non-condensing) in the early 1970´s.
Without getting too deeply into politics, a common currency works only under one political and legal system, providing that the different economies involved are on just about the same level. Unless someone within that union is willing to pick up the tab for developing the weaker countries, that´s not going to work - hence Euro crisis.Tax payers in northern Europe (not only Germany) are more and more unwilling to do so. Come to think of it, Germany owes its national debt solely to the EU membership and the Euro. As a result of Frau Merkel´s politics, Germany is starting to look like the former GDR over 20 years ago - run-down streets with pothole you can sink a Sherman tank into, schools which are falling apart etc.
No Vinnie, I am stepping off the now.
Terry - I hope your soon will return from his assignment without any harm done to his body & soul. Just a few days back, another German soldier was killed in the northern region. When will this end?
Have a nice weekend!

Good morning. It's 64° with 100% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a fair chance of rain. The high will be 82°.These three words, gadulida ale osdá are the words for today. The word gadulida means 'damp', 'moist'. The word 'ale' means 'and, or'. Today I'm using it as 'and'. The word 'osdá' can mean 'good', 'just' or 'nice'. Today I'm using it as 'nice'. So the sentence is damp and nice. That pretty much describes what it's like here today. I think from now on I'll limit these lessons to just one word unless of course you like these little lessons and want more. One word can have several meanings and be used many different ways. This is true of virtually any language.I think today I should commit some of my time to cleaning up some of the layout. It's looking like a tornado hit it. There's tools, cars, loco bodies and bit and pieces scattered all over and it's getting hard to find things.

Janie just a cup of tea for me please
Me and my wife got are first piece of post with Mr and Mrs on it which was nice and it was the wedding certificate whtich is rather important
i was hoping today to get outside and get my M3 Lee kit from Tamiya, airbrushed but i don't think the English weather is going to allow me oh well more time to get some of my wargameing stuff finished and some more layout planning done
Apologies in advance for any use of UK RailRoad Terms

Good morning.
Bill T ....... Thanks for the coffee. Now I may awaken.
Curt...... Have a great trip! ... Looking forward to your return with (hopefully) some show and tell.
Ulrich .... Thanks for posting the picture of the locomotive. It's impressive. I'm hoping enough people in Europe have learned the hard way that certain kinds of economic policies backfire and create more problems than they solve. Those people should elect people like you.
CN Charlie..... Feel free to tell more about your trip as your time allows. .... (Vinnie, cover your ears) Don't worry about offending your friends here about an opinion of how things are. Unfortunately, too many of our leaders get votes by offering European style policies that fail. (Vinnie, you may resume listening now.)
John Boy ...... When do you start your trip? ... Perhaps, you already have.
Jeff ..... I saw the storms being reported for LA Gulf area on the Weather Channel. Stay safe.
Regarding the layout, I need to set aside a week or so to hbuild the benchwork and get started with the track. Too much non-model-railroad stuff gets in the way. Meanwhile, I have several small mrr projects to do.
Everybody smile!

Good Afternoon Folks,
thank goodness it is a somewhat slow day. The weather has turned into the usual mix of rain, occasionally interrupted by spells of sunshine. My downstairs neighbors are all spiffing up their yards - kind of fun watching them do it, without having to do it myself.
The rest of the day will be spent on the sofa, watching the idiot box. My brain is overloaded and needs some "flushing".
Tomorrow is a conference in Magdeburg, again one of those "leave early & come home late" affairs.
CU!
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I just need a refill for my mug of dark roast coffee. Already starting to wake up.
Exhaust/tail pipe... You know I'm not even sure which side it is on in the Pip, but I think it is right below the decal. I doesn't get used that much (If I have any control with it...). There is a story on the PiP chat group about a Tesla S owner who likes to drive into gas stations and just ask the attendant to check the oil (Yes there are a couple states that gas has to be pumped by an "attendant")...
Sun is trying to peek out from behind the clouds every once in a while here in the Finger Lakes. Talking about showers this afternoon off and on. Got about 3/4" of moisture yesterday and overnight. We needed it!
Garry, good luck finding the time to get some model railroading done. I am still walking by the layout wishing I could actually find some time to justg sit and play with some projects. I have very little to show for last winter and this time of year is even worse.
On my way out to camp to help clean the dinning hall shortly. Also want to do some preliminary work on the sound system.
Have a good one!

Good day CS'ers! Hope this finds everyone in good health. If not, then to those in need.
Anyways, JimCG sent me a email last week sayin everyone is lookin for me. Well, here I am.
Flo - Can I get a Bacon Cheeseburger, hold the tomato, and Sweet Potato fries? Oh, and a nice thick Chocolate Milkshake, please? Thanks! I'll be in the corner booth if anyone comes lookin for me...
I've yet to even get the storage shelves built that I had previously mentioned needed to be done before I could build the layout. Between that and splitting with my most recent g/f, no progress has been made on my layout. But that's ok now as once she and her daughter move out, it gives me a spare bedroom to build the layout in, which, IMO, is a plus! And, I also need some electrical work done around the house so the delay in the layout will benefit from the upgrades to the electrical in that room.
Anyways, what has everyone else been up to?
Take care,
JP

And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

One of my local model train friends, Gus, was admitted into ER at the hospital a short while ago. He had a very bad reaction to a brown recluse spider bite. He is on an IV, and expected to recover okay. He is one of the model train guys who I sometimes mention in this forum. He is a retired IC RR engineer and models the IC RR with lcomotives he actually operated during his career.
JP! ..... Great to see you! .... Please keep posting and keep us up to date.
Ray .... Thanks for reply. I suppose you are going to say you are "retired".

Jeffrey, it is ko'eko'e {damp and cold} here, just perfect for punahe'lu {mildew} to form in kawau i'il {damp spaces}.
The rain form yesterday and last night lasted into the morning. I don't even look at the radar any more as it just seems to circle around us, like a bit of a nor'easter.
A do nothing day as we have run all week so today nothing. Besides with teh weather, we boht tend to be sore stiff and tired all the day.
MOH was trying to get me into some jewelry made in Hawaii, I am OK with rings and watches, but that is about it. WE can't agree on "matching rings", so all bets are off. WE have tow very different tastes....that and I am one of the few who is allergic to gold- all flavors rose, white, yellow! SO MUST be sterling silver for me. What is made in gold is not matched in sterling silver {or other metals-I Can wear most the other ones too-jus tnot GOLD {hiss snarle Hiss}} GOLD BURNS my skin that is why I cannot wear it.
So what ekse? nothing to do urgent today.
Dinner: Pig, corn on the cob, and some noodles for MOH.
later
Well I did some cleaning up on the layout today. At least I can see a little more of it. I also put in an order for eighteen more Athearn diesel horns. I think they'll be here by Saturday. That will be enough for most of my locos to have a standard type. Not much else going on here today. No rain so far today though some small storms have moved through the area. Radar doesn't show anything threatening. I was going to go to the pharmacy to have some prescriptions refilled but half of them show as expired so I'll wait and call them in Monday for renewal. That means going a day or two without but that's what I get for not paying attention to the number of refills. That's just me being nigolagána! That's Cherokee for stupid.
NAH!!! That ain't stupid , thats being forgetful of non MRR stuff.
Hope you stay dry and well

Good evening, everyone. Too much SWMBO to get as much done as I wanted on the carfloat. I did get the base cut and a couple of the fascia pieces, and I cleaned up the table in the garage where my hockey equipment lives, but it doubles as a workbench for messy stuff like power saws that I don't want inside.
Sir MadogI hope your soon will return from his assignment without any harm done to his body & soul. Just a few days back, another German soldier was killed in the northern region. When will this end?
Ulrich, we appreciate your support, but I hope your nation understands that this isn't your battle, and until someone grows up it will never end. I hope our nation some day gets the same message.
Maybe tomorrow. I'd love to have the carfloat base done and ready for that dirty water.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Didn't get anything else done on the layout today. Watched my niece, her husband and a couple of others take the cover tarp off the pool today. It had about four inches of rain water on it so they grabbed the east end of the tarp and pulled it to the west end, folding the tarp over itself as they went. When they got to the other end they could go no further as there was a massive pocket of really dirty water and a bunch of debris in the tarp and they couldn't pull it up over the edge. So two of them went to get my fathers 300 GPM Sears gas powered pump. This thing is thirty years old and still works great. They set it up and put the six inch diameter intake hose in the bulge in the tarp and hooked a two inch diameter fire hose onto the output line. Yeah, you can see what's coming. For some reason they were thinking the pump has a variable throttle. I'm here to tell you it doesn't. One of the guys cranked the pump and it started up with a roar. The bulge in the tarp almost instantly shrank to nothing in accompaniment to a loud slurping sound then the guy holding the fire hose almost got knocked off his feet as the hose straightened out and then it knocked him flat on his back as the water shot from the nozzle in a compressed stream that had gone from six inches in diameter to two inches in diameter and it was all he could to keep the nozzle pointed toward the lake. It only took a little less than a minute but I bet it felt more like twenty minutes to him! It was absolutely hilarious! That guy now has a lot of respect for that pump. I know what's going to be on his Christmas wish list. This evening I had dinner in town at Los Margiritas with my sister and her husband. And that's pretty much it for my day.Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Evening guys
Had to work today so no train club. Someone had been complaining about me having saturdays off (I don't tell my co-workers why I want it off; but it's to go to the train club) and of course I have to work it now. Maybe I should complain about the people who have certain days off for visitation or church, just to turn the table.
I dug out my thrall gondolas and touched up the stipe paint I did earlier. I have 3 that need a bit more work, and 5 more I have yet to build. I also figured I'd paint the F3B I got the other day in black and red, to match my SP F-units. It's done stripping, just needs paint. I'd do this cause I can't use if for a BN unit. That way I'd have 3. I'm debating wether or not to use my DA kits on them. I only have enough for 4 As and 2 Bs. I have 6 As and 6 Bs that I'm going to make BN someday. I may use them tomorrow and buy some more (I still have to anyways)
I already put together a stewart chassis with an NCE DASR decoder for the new F3B that I'll paint tomorrow. (unless a dinner has a spare stewart SP black widow shell (A or B) or two (both)?
Garry, Sounds scary. I get those things crawling around here all the time. Hope he recovers.

Above, the next car to be loaded with passengers. Above, a shot of the museum and power station. Above, The front of Lauber's Ice Cream Parlor. Above, a view of the "S" gauge working model layout. Kind of hard to see as it's covered with glass. All right! Inside Lauber's Ice Cream Parlor. John, the owner, just ducked out of sight as I took the picture! But he is there, ready to take your order! Remember, it's on me! Oh and he just opened, so we are his first customers for the evening! Here's the other side of room, as you can see, since we are his first customers of the day, sit where you want ! Above, as we step back outside, here comes a west bound, coming from Mukwonago, the next town east, pronounced : Muk-won-a-go where the tracks interchange with the WC/CN main. (yes, it's an Indian name, as many of the places in WI are, something about rivers and a bear, as the Fox and Mukwonago river meet here). OK, eat up every one, remember, it's on me! I hope you enjoy the treats! The web site is: http://www.easttroyrr.org/ Have great weekend everyone! And......to all you precious moms......Happy Mother's Day ! Mike. Evening Dinners!
Flo pleases.
Have a chances to buy a lot of B&O engines at what may be a good prices. But I have some questions first I am sure Vince's and Jeffery can answer.
1 What Proto engines had gear problems.
2 Witch Proto engines used the Athearn clone motors besides the SD 7, 9's?
Atlas engines, was there a bad one made? One in question is the box that is closes in the picture.

To me it looks like a old AMH box?

I hate Rust
My friend, Gus, is not doing well. His reaction to the bite from a brown recluse spider has become more serious and his kidneys are acting up. He may need to be transferred to another hospital. I'm sad this has happened.
Shelley and I will be gone all of tomorrow. We will vist with family members in Nashville, TN for Mothers Day celebration. Shelley's Mom has been ill this year with three hospital stays so far.
Mike ....... I really appreciate the trolley museum photos. Did you say that is near Milwaukee. In my youth, I rode the North Shore Line between Chicago and Milwaukee.
Good night everybody.
Good Evening, Janie - I'll have a bowl of chili with grated cheese, some diced onions and coupla packages of those oyster crackers, please, and a RBF to wash it down (and/or for dessert...).
Terry, we're sure you and your son will have some quality time at home (once he gets all THAT sand out of his britches...). Always good to hear another service member is returning home. And good to hear that he & his buddies there know that they are (definitely) appreciated back home!
Ray, your church is lucky to have you still around for their audio questions (and, you're helpful!). On your little scenery helper, you'd better explain to her how to NOT drop those plaster castings, and all... Nice bumper sticker, by the way (though I like EMD a bit more than the Alco's overall). Hey, I'm sure that Garry (CB&Q) appreciated (BN)Gary's punny saying...
CB&Q Garry, hope you get over whatever the pastor 'shared' with the congregation. Guess he thought everyone would miss it too much if he didn't deliver his message?Wow, sorry to hear about Gus' trip to the ER - will keep him in my , and tell him for me.
Hey, Karl, you didn't stop by Garry's church that day, did you? I saw you weren't feeling super-peppy recently, either.
NP2626, only media types (or PR ones?) would think of something so off-the-wall as "Your city should've heated up the water to melt the ice" - a more intelligent approach would be, to mover the start of fishing season to the average/usual time of year when the ice is most likely to melt, and/or else, have some gag prizes if the lakes are frozen over (like for the "most creative way" that a person could use to catch fish - in weather where you'd think you couldn't!). (There're reasons why certain sports don't start until later in the year...)
Ulrich, take care not to wear yourself out totally, with all that campaigning! You want to save up some energy for when you do get any time for MRR'ing.
Todd - sorry to hear about you losing your aunt; it was good that you were able to see her before she passed. for the family. At least your Cub is still running. (I'm guessing that you'll be sending it along to your local guy who fixes the tractors, right?)
Galaxy, kinda fun when the doctor gives us an excuse to behave as wacky as we want, eh? On the shirt topic, I recall that my Dad (he & Mom went to Hawaii for a vacation quite a while back) had a few Hawaiian shirts that he would wear in the spring/summertime.
Oh, speaking of shirts, on Friday evening I went by a local sportswear shop (had a gift card our team won in a sports trivia game at a church men's gathering this year). Picked up a St. Louis Cardinals shirt. And, I was pleased to see that they did well on their games with Colorado so far. (Go, Wainwright! Go, Miller!)
BNGary, you're making nice progress on the tracklaying. Are you "winging it", or do you have a plan/sketch (more or less) that you're w**king from? It's looking good so far! Good to hear your Oma's improving (and may she continue to improve)!
CDN Dennis, you must be in great shape, running 100 miles !!
SEWI Mike (if others haven't already told you, regarding editing your post), after you post it, you should see - in the bottom left corner of the post, a pencil-looking thing. Click on that, and you can edit/modify your post. (Ah, I see V8Dennis filled you in already! One thing I have noticed is, sometimes if I have photos in my post, when I edit and re-post, one or more disappears (at least from what I see, don't know if it's that way for others...). That gets a bit more tricky, so if you have that, PM Jeff, V8Dennis, me, or another of the Diners who've played with the forum software for a while... Oh, about your 'not-so-yellow' trees, there are some colors which photograph differently than they appear to the eyes (Galaxy touched some on that...). I operated a professional photography studio for several years (a few decades ago), and we always cautioned our clients about certain colors which photographers knew were problematic to show in the photographs as the 'correct'-to-the-eyes color. And you don't want to get me going about the color (non-)balance of fluorescent lamps. (At my office, I turn on the incandescent ('inefficient' tungsten) lamps rather than those long tubes that are in the ceiling)
Ken, I'm just guessing here, but I bet even with that later closing time, you will have customers coming in at a few minutes before that time, too! Ah, w**k! Good to hear that your daughter's surgery went without any glitches, and she is healing up well. I got a chuckle out of your account of your co-w**ker NOT being able to stick you with the long job and closing. (Tee hee... LOVE IT!) Serves him right!
TheBarnet - let me add my congratulations to you and your new bride! And no problem on the UK RR terms, so long as you don't mind our misspelling colour..
CN Charlie, it sounds like you did indeed have an enjoyable trip (and got to toot the whistle!). I'm sure Barry, CDN Dennis or some other fellow Canadians can fill you in about all the fine weather you've missed at home...
Alex, my belated to you! (Knew I should have stopped by yesterday!) As for your camera question, I use the Canon Powershot A590(IS, I think), which fits most of my needs. I'm sure there are newer and fancier cameras, also. Expect to be getting batteries for your camera, depending on how often you will be taking photos. I've been using rechargeable AA's, since I have several other gizmo's that use AA's.
JaBear, I see you caught my drift about our Northern hemiphere's "fruit cake"... One story 'up here' has to do with "re-gifting" (our) fruit cake after the holidays to someone else. At least, I haven't (so far) tasted really good fruit cake (but then again, I haven't had a taste of any from your hemisphere, either. Maybe I'll get a chance some time to come there & find out what *good* fruit cake tastes like? (I just have this aversion to being groped by our TSA agents at the airports here..)
Curt, have a great trip down South (and a safe one)! (And bring pics and your travel stories when you return...).
Saw on the news tonight that in Vancouver, a resident's pit bull "treed" a cougar (which weighed about 135 lbs., the piece said - the cougar, not the dog). They called in animal control, who called in backup with a couple of tranquilizer darts into the big cat's (ahem...) posterior. Two dropped the cougar from the tree, and the piece said the neighbors (who were described as "intimidated" by the pit bull) were more appreciative of the dog after that. Thought some of you might appreciate that one (for various reasons).
Good to see that JP stopped by - I had received an email back from him this afternoon. Yep, never hurts to have more MRR layout space!
Jeff, that was hilarious about your niece's friend and his "Three Stooges plays fireman" episode. Surprised that there wasn't more damage to stuff in the vicinity. Guess the pool isn't that close to your father's house. (Chuckling and shaking his head as he walks over to the RC...)
Hey, at least I got here in time for some ice cream at SE WI Mike's local ice cream shop. It's good to see there are some of those still around! Yum! Thanks, Mike!
Didn't get much MRR'ing done today (unless you count pulling out the Merchants' Row walls out that I started painting, and thinking about what other colors I need on them). No excuse, just kind of a kick-back and veg-out day. Maybe get something done tomorrow. All you Diners whose Moms (or Mums...) are still around, call them or treat 'em to lunch! Without them, we wouldn't be in here, yappin' our mouths, right?
Will continue prayers for those Diners (and friends 'n' loved ones) in need of them (and that'd be most of us). Sleep well tonight.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Morning cofffee in the diner..
GOOD SUNDAY MORNING!!!
