Evenin' folks!

I'm Baaaaaaaaccccckkkk!!!

Cloe, just a decaf please....

Had a great weekend up North of the Border in, I did.  The Niagara Frontier Region, NMRA, as always, put on a fun filled weekend, with several great clinics to attend, loads of wonderful layouts on tour, lots of fantastic models and photos in competition, and a Hobo Breakfast to end the whole thing this morning.  The Hobo Breakfast is for all those of us who have attended a convention outside of our own Division, but all the first timers are invited as well.  Great feed, BTW, which led into the awards ceremony.  I "officially" received my volunteer certificate at that time.

Got lost twice on the way home....  Only reason is wanted to avoid route 407 as it is a toll road and is very, very expensive.  My GPS wanted to send me on that route, so I decided to just use the directions I printed out from Google maps and work backwards.  i screwed them up in my mind and ended driving about 15 miles out of the way.  Then i stopped, thought about it and told the GPS to just get me to Hamilton Ontario (From there I know how to get home) and avoid any toll roads.  Had no problems with customs either way except for the hour wait to get over the border coming home.  My own fault as I knew it was going to be a wait (I didn't think that long though) because I wanted to stop on Grand Island to take a break from driving so I came across in Lewiston.  If I had gone South to Niagara Falls I could have got through much quicker.

I only bought a couple a couple decals for the car at the huge hobby shop in Mississauga, Credit Valley Railway Company.  I'll put up photos when I have one (maybe both) installed on the PiP.  The Pip got 55mpg on the trip, BTW.  I had saved a couple miles of EV for driving around town and it came in handy waiting in line at customs so the ICE didn't have to keep starting up.  The ICE started just after I left the customs booth...

The cats survived my being gone for the weekend quite well and there were no hairball piles around the house....  My son said he didn't see any and the pet sitter didn't leave me any reports of them either, so I guess all was well.

Spent some time catching up on the posts from the last couple days....

[edit] Jerry, just saw your post...  I am so sorry to hear of Sallie's passing!  My deepest condolences and my prayers going out you.

Have a good one!

We did go rail fanning today. The good news was that we caught 8 trains in 2 hours. The bad news was it rained pretty good the whole time. Taking any photos was just about impossible. On the other hand, not taking photos allowed me to pay more attention to the trains themselves. I know that sometimes I get so caught up in taking a photo of some car or engine that I miss something even better. A catch 22, so to speak.

Dinner tonight was a delmonico roast, garlic mashed potatos, green beans and dinner rolls. All washed down with a bottle of Cawtaba from Seneca Lake. For desert, I took a 30 minute nap.

Jerry - So very, very sorry for your loss.

Ray - Welcome home. But your not fooling me. I think the primary purpose of your trip was to see if you could figure out a way to tap into the electrical grid supplied by Niagara Falls to supplement the solar panels. By the way, do you need a passport to cross back and forth over the border. The wife has mentioned she would like to see the Falls again, and we both like the view from the Canadian side. So I'm wondering if we need to get passports befor making any plans.

I broke down yesterday and pre-ordered one of Intermountain's Norfolk Southern ES44AC Pennsylvania RR heritage units. I had told myself since they were first announced that I really didn't need one, but the more I looked at it, well, some of us know how that goes. No will power and not much sense either. But it is a beauty. They are due in June and I just hope they aren't delayed.

So all in all, another good weekend here, and hoping yours was too...

Did some cleanup work on the layout today. It looks somewhat better. I put the new GP40 to work. It's on the head-end of a four loco consist of two GP40's (one Bachmann on GP38-2 chassis, one Atlas with Bachmann shell), a FM H24-66 (Atlas) and my U30E645 (Atlas). There are two other four loco consists on the layout awaiting their turn. One is made up of two Bachmann GP7's, a GP35 (rebuild) and a slug (Frankenloco). The other is made up of four FP7's. One is stock E-R Models power, one is a completely stock Atlas, one is an Atlas with PPW power and one is an Atlas with Athearn power.

Well that's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Jerry, I am so sorry to hear Sallie passed away! While she has gone to a better places and no longer suffers. You are left with a terrible void in your life. We are your friends and feel free to talk at the dinner, or by PM. I think it was Will Rodgers that said "Growing Old in not for the faint of heart". Losing a Love One is one of the hardest thing to endure. I hope you can find peaces tonight and forward in your life. If not, we will do what we can do! We are just a couple of clicks away.

Hi Flo, I'll just have a mug of hot chocolate, please. Thank you. Smile

Jerry, very sorry to hear about SallyAshamed I know from earlier that she'd had some health problems, but it's never easy to have such a loss. My thoughts and AngelAngel for you and the family. I have emailed (CB&Q) Garry to let him know, also, since he's out on a trip currently and I know he'd want to know.

Ray, good to see you back SOTB (so to speak...). But I don't know yet if I believe PA Tom's take on your trip...Smile, Wink & Grin

Uh, Mr. David - it looks like you have had a rough night. How've things been for you and your company?

Karl, looks like you made yard sales very productive for you. Wish we had some here that had MRR stuff.

Prayers for comfort and healing of minds, bodies and souls, as well as a good night's rest and peaceful sleep.

[Edit]: And I have TOP, so start my tab and I'll cover it in the morning, Flo.

Blessings,

Evenin'...

Janie, can I get a refill on the decaf?  Thanks.

Tom, yes you need a US Passport to get back in the country.  Technically you only need a drivers license or other government issued photo ID to get into Canada, but then you can't come home.....  Oh and I already probably get some power from The plants at Niagara Falls here at my house....  Big operation for water power at the falls!

Jim, I was a bit bummed out that the hotel wouldn't let me charge up the PiP while I was there.  A lot of hotel chains will let people get a charge free or at a very low price and have level 2 chargers for EVs.  The guy at the desk was excited when I asked him, and said I was the first that ever asked.  He called the manager, and the manager said no.  In all honesty the outdoor outlets they have would have my charger cord going over the sidewalk, and the liability would be a problem I'm sure.

I had saved a couple miles of pure EV and still had it when I got caught in the traffic jam at customs.  I switched over to EV mode so the ICE wouldn't have to start up just to move the car 10 or so feet every once in a while.  It was backed up close to 3 miles, and I ran out of electric just as I left the customs booth.  Perfect spot for efficiency!  The gas gauge, by the time I got home was flashing the warning to get gas immediately and the distance left said I had 5 miles left when I pulled into my usual gas station here in town on the way to my house.  I drove 428 miles on the trip, and filled the tank with 7.9 gallons...  I actually had 2.5 gallons left in the tank and probably could have gone another 150 miles without running out of fossil fuel...  Gas millage was low this time as it was all on the petrol except for 10 miles, but 53 mpg ain't bad for freeway driving I think.

OK, I am flat out exhausted, so I'm heading to get some Zzz

See you in the morning!

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a stack of blueberry pancakes please. Yes with blueberry syrup thank you.

Jim- Oh ya, it’d probably make it. Just add oil and goLaugh. Actually it’s just I don’t know if I wanna tinker with it anymore, and because it is 35+ years old and it requires a bit of tinkering short of a new part and parts for a cast iron Kohler are getting harder to find (though not impossible), I really don’t know if I wanna put the money into that old of a tractor. A guy I know here in town collects and restores old Cub Cadets (from IH) as a hobby and resells some. He has been wanting this one for a long time because it is actually in really really good shape. Lots of hours and like I said the engine is tired, but looks like maybe only a few years old.

Whoa! David- Good thing Vinnie got to ya before Jeff didLaugh. Good to see you stop in !

Well, bad news all around today. Just read email from 5 days ago ( I’m horrible on reading emails as they are not used as communication anymore for me) they have given my Aunt 30 days as her cancer has spread rapidly. She has not been doing well and that contributed greatly, keeping her from doing Chemo.

Real busy day today and rest of week through Sunday at least, so best get a move on.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 60° with 100% humidity and dense fog. There will be some clouds and the high will be 82°.

No plans for today. Whatever comes along I guess. I do need to open up the H24-66 and the U30E645. It's about time for their annual maintenance.

Good morning, everyone!

Jerry, sorry to hear of your loss.

Tom, the US actually has a "Passport Lite" which is in a wallet-sized card that you can use for short travel to Canada or Mexico.  I don't think it's valid for re-entry from anywhere else.  It's a bit cheaper than a full passport.  But, I'd still get the full passport, which will give you an excuse to visit places like Italy.  Imagine riding a high-speed train through the hills of Tuscany, and when you get off you walk to the end of the platform, step outside the station and find yourself on the Grand Canal of Venice.

My trip to the hobby shop was a success, but they didn't have any NESL lumber so I'll still need to make another trip for that.  But, I got scratchbuilding stuff and immediately set to work fabricating some bulkheads for the waterline around the carfloat at Mooseport.  This will serve as "scenic fascia" between the ground level of the layout and the finished wood frame.

Have a good day, everyone!

Good morning diners, just dropping in for a quick cup of straight black to go,  just put it in here please, .....yes I know....it looks gross......but I rinse it out every once and while....sorry dear, I didn't catch the name ?  kind of a newbie here in the diner.  Thank you, yes...I know it's hot...

Jerry, I haven't had the pleasure yet, but my wife and i send our prayers to you and Sallie.

And Gary, that observation car, or your chapel car.....I'm looking for one of those for a WC business car project.  Is that a Roundhouse?  Seems to be the only manufacturer of the arched window cars.

Finally some decent weather here in SE WI.  Felt good to get outside, and to the garage, and get going on other projects.  I got all my scenery projects caught up this past winter, and the room cleaned, so now I can just run trains for a while.

If I may indulge you diners for a minute, some of my "other" hobbies include this:

Into this:

!960 Simplicity, all original parts, except for new front tires.

I hope it's OK to post those here......Jeff?  is it all right?  so I don't make any other mistakes......and end up with a personal encounter with Vinnie?...

Gotta run folks!  Picking up the daughter at the airport.

Mike.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a bowl of Organic Pumpkin Seed Flax Granola for me along with my usual dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug please (want to go easy on Galaxy...).  Besides, I had two huge breakfasts in Cananda with Eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, muffins, and a bit of fre4sh fruit.  My brain told me to have more of the fresh fruit, but you probably know what I filled the plate with....

Today appears to be "partly" outside.  A bit chilly at the moment at 55°F, but it looks like the first week of May should have quite a bit of sunshine around here.  Lawn is growing fast.  Tomorrow will be mowing day again... Today I have to catch up on on a few items and then head over to my son's house to babysit granddaughter #2 while my son takes #1 to the eye doctor in Rochester.  She has Ocular Rosacea and has been having a flare lately.  DIL can now drive again, so she is happy that she doesn't have to depend on a co-worker to take her to and bring her home from school every day.

Mike, a belated welcome to the diner to you!  I remember those little Simplicity tractors from that era.  Never used one as my father figured he had a son to mow our large yard at the farm and the exercise would do him good!  If it got out of hand he just went next door to Don Howard's Farm Machinery (his cousin) and grabbed the Alice Chalmers G with the 5' bush hog under it and made short work of (and left all kinds of ruts in) the yard.  My son's neighbor has an old Alice Chalmers B that has been just sitting for several years.  I would love to get my hands on it to restore.  On the other hand I have enough hobbies to keep me busy.  Iy's just that I was driving the Alice Chalmers B at the age of 6.

Ooooo, the big bright thing in the sky just showed up!  For a second or two and just went back behind the clouds.

Best get myself moving and doing stuff.  Later!

 Morning All,

Currently 54 with an expected high of 85.

I was able to install one of the Digitrax UP 5 Panels last night after w**k. Closing shift today, so I will try and get the second one installed before heading off to w**k.

I was bad and bought a small deep fryer and fried up some chicken thighs last night. I only had a small taste, as I had already defrosted some leftover meatloaf, but it was pretty tasty. Think I will bring a few with me for lunch/dinner.

    Prayers to all in need.
