LION posted this on a different forum. Him might as well post it here just for the fun of it. Who knows, if the LION can model New York City, then maybe there is someone who wants to put a model of a monastery on their layout. Fair turnaround, you know.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee pleases

Stayed up way to late last night watching Red Tails, it was a OK movie. I was hoping it be a little better but I will watch it again.

Jeffery, you have it right by making your nephew fix the mower. If a person has to fix what they broke, they will stop breaking things. One of the reason I never really beat on my Old Mopar, I didn't want to fix them.

By the way Jeffery, thanks for the tip on fixing the side frame. I would have never thought to counter drill a hole in the side frame for the replacement tap. Yes

Trying to decide what I want to do Train wise today. Huh? Still leaning toward getting the new PK 2 SD 9 Rio Grand that's at K-10 Model Trains.

 Later, Ken

Mornin' evenryone from the beautiful paradise of the Finger Lakes...

Currently 33°F and raining outside with a high  of 39°F sometime this afternoon if only for a minute or two.  We are under two weather advisories here at the moment.  the first says we could get freezing rain with a build up of 1/3 of an inch today, and the other says we are under a flood watch due to the 2 to 3" of liquid sunshine forecast for last night, today, and tomorrow.  Think I better check out the cellar and make sure the sump is working properly soon.  Jeffrey, what is hitting up here is the same front you are having fun with way down where you live...

Zoe, I think I have a bowl of hot oatmeal and lots of hot dark roast coffee to start the day today...

I have all kinds of stuff needing to get done today, and have to be out to my son's house by 2:30 this afternoon.  Will need to watch granddaughter #2 and then get #1 off the bus so we can head out to dance class for granddaughter #1.  I will have dinner at Son's house and then go to the Scout Camp Properties meeting from there, since the location is close by.

Have a great day, stay dry, and be blessed!

Morning All.

Currently 44 with and expected high of 64 with the possibility of an occasional shower. How is that for really guessing.

Early shift today, then Skype with my son tonight. May get some w**k done on the layout.

My knee is starting to bother me again. I wonder if it is the change in the weather?Huh?

Good morning. It's 43° with 100% humidity. The high will be 65°.

Widespread thunderstorms with 30 to 40 mph winds seem to be the rule today. We've already had some rather heavy storms this morning. Think I'll stay inside today. There's plenty of cleanup work on the layout that needs to be done. I also have plenty of movies and documentaries I can watch.

So I picked up a Bachmann Berkshire. #763 NKP Railfan. It was pretty easy to replace the stock decoder with another LokSound Select.
I know it doesn't fit my model railroad prototype at all, but ever have the times you just *have* to have a certain locomotive?

Alex, I'm still trying to figure out how I can fit a BLI J Class or ATSF 4-8-4 on my HO scale CSX switching layout...

There must be an epidemic of busted appliances appliances going around the forum.  We just had to replace our washer.  The old one started shaking and walking across the floor and produced lukewarm water when set to hot.  Repair tech. came yesterday and said the springs and pads under the basket were worn, the temperature sensor was shot and probably the mixing valve too.  And he found that the outlet it was plugged into had been sparking and starting to melt the plug.  I replaced the outlet myself (easy job) but the washer would cost at least half the cost of a new one.  Went to an appliance store a block from our street.  They had a couple on sale for $122 off.  Even at that, with the delivery and removal charge of $50 and the government's pound of flesh, we're almost $600 poorer.  New one will be delivered some time today.  Good timing.  Tomorrow is laundry day.  It will get a good workout.  It's amazing how much one can pay for a washer.  The one we got was a basic model but some of the ones in their showroom had astronomical prices and control panels that would require an engineering degree to operate.  They sure don't make appliances or anything else to last a long time nowadays.  Washer has only a one year warrantee.  I guess they don't expect it to last much longer than that.  Compare that to our freezer which we bought in 1973 and it's still working fine and has never seen a repair man.  We're living in a disposable age.  As for the energy saving features that are so loudly touted on appliances, chances are that it won't last long enough to see any savings in energy use.

Okay, Vinnie, you don't need to throw me out.  That wasn't a soap box.  I'll settle down now and have a poached egg on toast for breakfast with a bowl of high fibre cereal on the side and a big mug of coffee for breakfast.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and Eggs Benedict please. Thanks.

A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Cloudy, with a high near 51. Dodged many predicted storms yesterday and last night. Every hour the forecast would change pushing the start time of storms later and later, while the endtime remained the same. Never heard a one. No complaints.

Jeffrey- Take the key. They’ll find the kill switch ‘cause they’ll watch you some time start it.

Jake- Sigh Rule #1- "Never ask a girl to anything short of say a Prom or….marriage, three months out". Suggest a possibility at best. Kinda feel out if she’d even be interested. If she likes you, she’ll be happy watchin mud dry with you. But even with that, "might be busy" means she’s leaving her options open. And when Gary said  Act like you are having fun even if it is something that bores you out of your skull” Yup, get used to it now.

Karl- I’ve missed what your son is studying? Don’t know if I’d like to live in China for that long. Food's good though. Girls are pretty Laugh. Well, really about the same as they are here. Some are gold diggers, some are looking for a Visa, most are not. Depends on where you're at. Most just looking for a husband who'll treat them nice and a home they can RULE! Laugh But he probably knows that by now. HmmWho knows maybe I would, maybe not. Visits would be ok. Guess he’d know since he has lived there for a little while. Me, not so sure.

Ah Jeffrey, (waves hand) they heard and understood you just fine the first time about the brake. They just didn’t think it reeeally mattered as much as the old worry wart Uncle made it out to be. Been on your end puh-LENTY of times. Bet there was a couple "oh (expletive)’s" muttered when the thing suddenly wouldn’t move. Grumpy  You’d think we’d be used to it by now.

SighWell, there are plenty of advantages to being married. Not having to make a decision, always having suggestions for a better way to do something, and being constantly “inspired” to improve whatever you’re doing are just a few of the perks. However, and I must say I admired the counter and the kitchen table tops for 4 days and the fifth up until I had to leave for w**k., now since she has returned…I can’t see either. I’ll miss those two friends, (wiping tear) I just know I will.

Sometimes I think I should have just used plain old plywood instead of paying for countertops and a table. Not like you’ll ever see ‘em.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Jeffrey isn't it bout time for those "twisty tornado things" to start up again? Seem to remember that. We're starting to get the darned things up here a lot more frequently than we did years ago. We had a 35 ft 5th wheel parked on a lot at a lake about 25 min. from here. About 11 summers ago, it and a whole lot of other ones got twisted into the lake and beyond. A Friday evening about 5 pm just when the weekenders were arriving. Lots of people hurt, a few deaths and a ton of damage. When the insurance on our unit came through, we bought a used trailer, kept it in the driveway over winter and sold it in the spring.

Tornadoes are always a concern here. We're down in a low spot so many go over us but once in a while one or two drop in for a visit. One night there were a total of five here.

*

Well nasty weather is moving in and making itself known, so it's time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrow.

  Evening All.

Jeffery, I get that kind of stuff at w**k all the time. "Do Not sell the display models, all the parts are not there." I say, over and over again. Someone sells a display, just to get their commission, and then I get a call from an irate customer looking for some part he did not get. I have no idea what part he needs and I am supposed to fix someone elses screw up. Very frustrating.

Got the l aundry done. Went grocery shopping and cooked up some sausage and peppers for a nice sandwich for tomorrowDinner. Cooked the rest of the sausage just because I like Italian sausageChef. Then l got quite a bit done on the layout. Completed some more benchw**k, laid and wired some more track, and got a bit more ground cover finished.

  Prayers to all in need.

Jeff- I guess I missed something in the Diner about something being broken.

Well let's see. Computer broke. Replaced with new one. Fridge broke. Replaced with new one. New tractor broke. It was fixed today. You didn't miss much.Laugh

*

One belt later and the tractor is running again. My nephew and one of his friends used it last so he (nephew) fixed it. There were a couple of anxious minutes after he started it and pulled the drive lever back for reverse. It didn't move. Little wonder. The safety release for the trans-axle was pulled out and locked. I unlocked it and pushed it back in. It moved then. He drove it in a few circles in the back yard then parked it making very sure he didn't touch the brake until it was in neutral. Seems he can still learn some things.

Had dinner with my father this evening. Pinto beans, rice, corn bread. Afterward we watched wheel of fortune then I came back home.

Looks like the weather may get nasty tonight. There's a cold front moving across east Texas and it should be here in an hour or so. The weather guesser is moaning about lows in the low 40's and possibly a 90% chance of rain with heavy rain and gusting winds possible. It could be an interesting night.

Work? Don't know, but probably figures that something with Keystone might come up. She is going for a degree that seems to require summer classes. And yes, I will keep those toes and fingers crossed.

Jake ..... I was reading your conversation with Can Dennis ...... Perhaps, in the next 3 months you can butter her up taking her to something she really likes. Act like you are having fun even if it is something that bores you out of your skull Good luck Big Smile

Fergie .... Hmmmmmm Perhaps you should have painted all the parts a non-gray color prior to working on them in the cabin.

Karl ... Nice photo with your son and other young guts. Bet you are proud. Can your son get some carry out Chinese food for Todd? I'm sure he would like some.

Curt .... Did you say the opther day you had a problem with the Forum private messages?

Good to see everybody is busy in the diner.

I worked in the layout room to make room for adding my next section to the layout. This required moving stuff out of the way. A home=made lumber rack was dismantled and wood is being salvaged for some of the benchwork to be byult. I still have some remaining unused wood, too.

For fun, I've been running the 2-10-2 with Sountraxx Tsunami sound. Chuf. Chuf.

Evening All,

Had spaghetti for supper and just finished a cup of  coffee.

I received  a bunch of castings from Lee in the mail today. Lumber piles, stacks of grain sacks and PRR concrete bumpers. He did excellent work as he always doesBig Smile

I decided to spray the bright green trees with Valspar clear flat spray then sprinkled different colors of WS foam on them and they came out OK. Most will be in the background.

Karl- It looks like your son will have a great adventure. I wish him the best.

Jeff- I guess I missed something in the Diner about something being broken.

Evening y'all!Cowboy

Flo, all this 80 degree heat has got me parched,,,,got any cold lemonade ??Wink

My Lima C420, which HAD been quiet as a mouse, has developed a cracked gear. So after doing a little research I was off to my LHS for a few supplies and to order the gears from Northwest Short Line. From there, did some gardening and then worked on the triplets for a bit. Cab glass need to be installed yet, and the headlight LED position in the hood needs to be reworked, so we don't have the "cab on fire" look! They should be done in time for WPF!

Son #4 called from college. He has just finished his thesis (35 pagesSurprise) and has been mulling over his postgraduate studies. He's made his decision, he's going to spend the next 2 years in China! He spent a semester there last year, and is quite comfortable with the idea. I gave him my blessings (I'm sure there will be a check or two in there) under 1 condition. He must find an HO Bachmann QJ (latest production run) at a cheap price and send it home to Dad.!!Big Smile  I'll repay him of course, or front the money either way, but it's got to be cheaper than the blood money they want on fleabay.Hmm

He's the tall Anglo with the ,,,umm,,,different fashion sense. Plaid shirt & green shorts? Ugh! Big Smile This was last year in Tiananmen Square.

Jeffrey Honestly, I didn't break the tractor, but give me a chance, tomorrow I might try to cut my own, and Mr Murphy might help me put another on the disabled list!!!Surprise

Well, I'm gonna slide in a booth, prop my feet up and check my eyelids for holes

Karl

***Jeffrey, why wouldn't the culprit tell you they did that unless they felt guilty for using it in the first place? That's extremely inconsiderate on their part.

It could be because I have a very nasty temper when it comes to dealing with liars and those who act irresponsibly. My mother learned how to control hers. I never have been able to control mine.

So it's been "Production Day" around here today on the RR. Been making bunches and bunches of 2 X 4 inch rectangles from 1/16" Masonite into which I drill 2 holes for momentary on push buttons and 4 - 1/16 inch holes, one in each corner of the rectangle. I've not done 24 with more to be done when I receive another 24 push buttons.

What on earth is he doing you say? Well, these will be mounted over openings in the fascia when it eventually goes on. They are the controls for all the twin coil switch machines. Being all gimpy with arthritis makes it really hard for me to do "under the bench work"  stuff and this means I can do the soldering standing up or sitting on an office chair. More work... Yup but way easier on my ole body. Smile, Wink & Grin

I also sprayed a bunch of chloroplast flat black the other day and cut it into strips to use as tunnel lining. Just need to figure out how to attach it to the sides of the road bed. Any ideas?????

What else.... hmmmm oh yes, I've changed out my Digitrax DB150 that I've been using for a command station and am replaced it with a Digitrax DTS 100. Now I have no idea what I am going to use the DB150 for. Probably use it as a booster out on the far reaches of the layout. Doesn't seem to need it but what the heck, since I've got it I might as well use it Confused That is what I get for ordering the wrong thing in the first place.... Sigh!

Well, gotta run over to Canadian Tire for some pinstripe tape in red and green to put on those nifty push button boards.

Coffee and a slice of Key Lime pie, please.

***Jeffrey, why wouldn't the culprit tell you they did that unless they felt guilty for using it in the first place? That's extremely inconsiderate on their part.

Picked up a few weathered (HO) boxcars on the-bay last night. One of them looks very cool to my eyes. Just hope they roll and couple well.

Finished seeding those areas I've cleared out. The replacement teeth and pins arrived today for the Sports Car (excavator) but that can wait for another day. Time for some R&R.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

I'm tired of this 'somebody else will fix it if I break it' crap!

Just like a bunch of kids....... NOT ME, NOPE, CROSS MY HEART must have been somebody else Stick out tongue

Yep! That's exactly what's happening. If they can't take responsibility for it I'll just make sure they can't use it.
