Evening guys

Busy day today. No time for working on trains, but I snagged some stuff. 1.5 sets of detail parts to fix up the old AHM/Rivarossi U25C, and several P2K GP shells (7 HH GP20s, 2 GP7s with DBs, 3 GP18s with DBs, and a pair of GP9s). All undec and needing detail parts. The 7 GP20s were bought to get the sills, the long hoods will probably be re-sold alond with the GP7s (BN had none with DBs). I know where to get almost everything as aftermarket parts.

I think I figured out what to do for scenery on my "el-cheapo" module. In my parts box I have an Atlas #6 right, a section of bridge track (atlas, missing the bridge), and a few pieces of flex track. I figure double track into 1 track with the switch, then use the piece of bridge track for a scratch-built trestle. I need to pick up some foam for the sub-base as I want the tracks to be elevated and a piece of glass for a stream. What makes wood look like cresote-soaked wood?

Jerry, Sorry to hear about Sally. My thoughts and condolences are with you.

Jim, if you have any athearn locos with the inside bearing blocks, the axle gear in those is the same as the P2K locos. I've used ones from Athearn F7s and SD40-2s.

Ken, At least you're not trying to get the same engines as me, lol.

MisterBeasley, that loco kinda looks like an Acela loco.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Had a busy day today. First mowing the grass and doing laundry then feeding my fathers dogs this evening as he's at work tonight. It looks like I may have a problem with oranges now and I may have to add them to my taboo list along with bananas, cherries, avocados, tomatoes and a few others. In the past few weeks every time after eating an orange I've been hot, shaky and really weak not to mention my sinuses go wild and I sweat profusely. That never happened before until a few weeks ago and it's gotten progressively worse. Tomatoes and avocados will keep me on the throne for hours. Cherries make me quite sick and a banana will require that I be taken to the ER. Looks like oranges are on the way to doing the same thing. I was thinking today that this might be some kind of reaction with the new meds but this started before the new meds were prescribed. My father eats oranges from the same bag and he shows no ill effects. And we've been through several bags. So why would they effect me and not him? Another point to bring up with my doctor.

Time to call it a night here. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening, Chloe; could I get a CAW mug of coffee, and would you please microwave one of those cinnamon rolls about 15 seconds for me? Thanks - makes it taste almost like it was still the morning. Yeah

I see that (CB&Q) Garry popped in last night, and he sounds about as tired as Ray was from his trip, too. Hope you guys get rested up before you need to make another long trip!

So, Ray - my driver's license is like a one-way ticket to Canada? (Hmm....Hmm But then again, there are those winters...)

Ken, now you have me wondering about my P2K GP7's...Will they, or won't they? Where can I get those Proto replacement gears (just in case I need 'em, y'know)?

Ulrich, I'd say it's not your fault that I don't keep up with On30 stuff. Main (practical) use for On30 for me is, I like looking at On30 track plans (since if I recall correctly, the track width is the same as HO standard gauge). Kinda like I couldn't tell anyone much at all about LGB stuff (other than it's pretty big, and often used for outdoor/garden railroads).

Todd, what ratio of oil-to-gasoline does your tractor use? About 4 to 1? Whistling Maybe you can check what your best price on a new(er) tractor would be, vs. what the local restorer-of-tractors will offer you for your current oil- gas-guzzler. Of course, your choice may be affected by how much trouble that the tractor is giving you, too. Man, sorry to hear about your aunt's health news. Will keep her and your family in my AngelAngel How far away from you does she live?

Mike, yep, you can post the photos of your 'other hobby' in here. I would agree that you did a very good/excellent job on your tractor (especially since it was missing so much originally!). And from the looks of your tractor re-do, Todd may want to talk with you about rehab'ing his tractor...Smile, Wink & Grin Oh, and some of our Diners are harder to keep straight/apart - like Gary (DuPrey, aka BN#24), vs. Garry (Heartland Division CB&Q, or Kentucky/KY Garry), or me (some just call me CapeJim, or something sorta based on my username; and then we also have James S. (aka OzJim, since he lives in Australia). If you keep hanging around here for long enough, you'll get the knack of it for most of us, as the rest of us pretty much have.

Ray, it sounds like you got the weather we had a couple of days ago. If things hold the same on our current weather today, you can expect some early morning fog (followed by a sunny, 70 F+ afternoon, in another day or two...

NV Paul, you'll probably be able to make up for that fried chicken - as long as you eat a ton of salad and fruits, right? Wink

Garry - I do have one question: did you and Shelley each drive a vehicle? 'Cause I was thinking, otherwise, if she filled the vehicle up with her shopping loot, that might not have left much room for you in there! Oops

Jake, is your job wearing you down (and/or the weather)? Hope you get your oomph back soon.Yeah

Gary - had you posted a plan for your 4' X 6' yet? And if so, about how long ago in here? (Thanks)

Today at the office was pretty good, not very many people in (which is kinda surprising for a Monday). After that, I went by the P.O. box and my new MR issue had arrived. Smile After a quick glance-through, there are a few articles I can use (not sure how well I can back-date Pelle Soeberg's article of the asphalt plant - like, to the 1950's?).

Think I'll be chilling out in the corner booth for a bit.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

I think I'm going to play some minecraft later, but in the meantime I'm going to scope out my 4' x 6' and see what I'm going to have to do to keep it modular, light, and stable.

Well I went down and cut the grass and got my laundry done at the same time. Took a few hours but it's done. Now I'm exhausted and about to fall over and I really don't feel like doing anything the rest of the day.

See y'all later. Maybe.

Jerry. Angel

Good afternoon.

I'm not a coffee drinker, so just a hot chocolate (really dreary outside in Towanda right now) in a LEHIGH VALLEY mug please.

Feeling real down right now. May have something to do with the weather. Work and some homework for tonight. Not feeling real good right now. Too tired to think straight.

Hello diners! .... Glad you had a busy week. I've skiimed over some posts but not all. I'll get to that later.

Mike..... Welcome to the Diner. Yes, the Chapel Car is made from a MDC / Roundhouse Pullman Palace observation car.

Our trip was great, but as I said we had too much to do in only a week. We were only about an hour from Rob for a very brief period, but unfortunately did not get together. Weather was good except for the final day when it rained as we were headed home.  ..... We visited family in Birmingham, AL and celebrated my sisters birthday there..... Spoiled my wife, Shelley for her birthday while we were in GA. We had great food at Morton's Steakhouse, and stayed at a 5 star hotel. Next day was shopping in GA. Wow!. Shelley got enough stuff to completely fill the cargo area of her vehicle. .... We went to Columbia, SC for the next night. .... Then we stayed 2 nights at the ocean in Myrtle Beach, SC. Guess who insisted on more shopping there. She filled part of the back seat leaving just enough room for our travel bags...... Then we went to Durham, NC to see our son and his wife..... We stayed in Asheville, NC. .... Drove home in TN and KY Sunday in rain. ..... We skipped seeing Shelley's cousin in Charlotte, NC and her family in Nashville, TN due to lack of time.

In Durham, NC, we attended a minor league baseball game and it was a lot of fun. Visting Team was the Toledo Mud Hens, and the home team, the Durham Bulls. It was great to see all the families attending the game, and they certainly do many fun things throughout the game to encourage family attendance. The home team won the game and had a grand slam home run. They made a triple play, and that is very rare.

I saw something very nice I wish to tell you. We were seated very close to the visting team bull pen beside left field. A foul ball was hit along the ground to the bull pen. One of the players picked up the ball and tossed it to a boy about 6 years old seated in the front row. It was a nice souvenir. The boy (with no hesitation) handed it to his younger brother (about 3 years old). The ball became the souvenir of the little brother. ..... I thought it was nice to see a child doing something like that.

 Morning All,

Currently 54 with an expected high of 85.

I was able to install one of the Digitrax UP 5 Panels last night after w**k. Closing shift today, so I will try and get the second one installed before heading off to w**k.

I was bad and bought a small deep fryer and fried up some chicken thighs last night. I only had a small taste, as I had already defrosted some leftover meatloaf, but it was pretty tasty. Think I will bring a few with me for lunch/dinner.

    Prayers to all in need.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a bowl of Organic Pumpkin Seed Flax Granola for me along with my usual dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug please (want to go easy on Galaxy...).  Besides, I had two huge breakfasts in Cananda with Eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, muffins, and a bit of fre4sh fruit.  My brain told me to have more of the fresh fruit, but you probably know what I filled the plate with....

Today appears to be "partly" outside.  A bit chilly at the moment at 55°F, but it looks like the first week of May should have quite a bit of sunshine around here.  Lawn is growing fast.  Tomorrow will be mowing day again... Today I have to catch up on on a few items and then head over to my son's house to babysit granddaughter #2 while my son takes #1 to the eye doctor in Rochester.  She has Ocular Rosacea and has been having a flare lately.  DIL can now drive again, so she is happy that she doesn't have to depend on a co-worker to take her to and bring her home from school every day.

Mike, a belated welcome to the diner to you!  I remember those little Simplicity tractors from that era.  Never used one as my father figured he had a son to mow our large yard at the farm and the exercise would do him good!  If it got out of hand he just went next door to Don Howard's Farm Machinery (his cousin) and grabbed the Alice Chalmers G with the 5' bush hog under it and made short work of (and left all kinds of ruts in) the yard.  My son's neighbor has an old Alice Chalmers B that has been just sitting for several years.  I would love to get my hands on it to restore.  On the other hand I have enough hobbies to keep me busy.  Iy's just that I was driving the Alice Chalmers B at the age of 6.

Ooooo, the big bright thing in the sky just showed up!  For a second or two and just went back behind the clouds.

Best get myself moving and doing stuff.  Later!

Just read email from 5 days ago ( I’m horrible on reading emails as they are not used as communication anymore for me) they have given my Aunt 30 days as her cancer has spread rapidly. She has not been doing well and that contributed greatly, keeping her from doing Chemo.

Good morning diners, just dropping in for a quick cup of straight black to go,  just put it in here please, .....yes I know....it looks gross......but I rinse it out every once and while....sorry dear, I didn't catch the name ?  kind of a newbie here in the diner.  Thank you, yes...I know it's hot...

Jerry, I haven't had the pleasure yet, but my wife and i send our prayers to you and Sallie.

And Gary, that observation car, or your chapel car.....I'm looking for one of those for a WC business car project.  Is that a Roundhouse?  Seems to be the only manufacturer of the arched window cars.

Finally some decent weather here in SE WI.  Felt good to get outside, and to the garage, and get going on other projects.  I got all my scenery projects caught up this past winter, and the room cleaned, so now I can just run trains for a while.

If I may indulge you diners for a minute, some of my "other" hobbies include this:

Into this:

!960 Simplicity, all original parts, except for new front tires.

I hope it's OK to post those here......Jeff?  is it all right?  so I don't make any other mistakes......and end up with a personal encounter with Vinnie?...

Gotta run folks!  Picking up the daughter at the airport.

Mike.

Good morning, everyone!

Jerry, sorry to hear of your loss.

Tom, the US actually has a "Passport Lite" which is in a wallet-sized card that you can use for short travel to Canada or Mexico.  I don't think it's valid for re-entry from anywhere else.  It's a bit cheaper than a full passport.  But, I'd still get the full passport, which will give you an excuse to visit places like Italy.  Imagine riding a high-speed train through the hills of Tuscany, and when you get off you walk to the end of the platform, step outside the station and find yourself on the Grand Canal of Venice.

My trip to the hobby shop was a success, but they didn't have any NESL lumber so I'll still need to make another trip for that.  But, I got scratchbuilding stuff and immediately set to work fabricating some bulkheads for the waterline around the carfloat at Mooseport.  This will serve as "scenic fascia" between the ground level of the layout and the finished wood frame.

Have a good day, everyone!

Good morning. It's 60° with 100% humidity and dense fog. There will be some clouds and the high will be 82°.

No plans for today. Whatever comes along I guess. I do need to open up the H24-66 and the U30E645. It's about time for their annual maintenance.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a stack of blueberry pancakes please. Yes with blueberry syrup thank you.

Jim- Oh ya, it’d probably make it. Just add oil and goLaugh. Actually it’s just I don’t know if I wanna tinker with it anymore, and because it is 35+ years old and it requires a bit of tinkering short of a new part and parts for a cast iron Kohler are getting harder to find (though not impossible), I really don’t know if I wanna put the money into that old of a tractor. A guy I know here in town collects and restores old Cub Cadets (from IH) as a hobby and resells some. He has been wanting this one for a long time because it is actually in really really good shape. Lots of hours and like I said the engine is tired, but looks like maybe only a few years old.

Evenin'...

Janie, can I get a refill on the decaf?  Thanks.

Tom, yes you need a US Passport to get back in the country.  Technically you only need a drivers license or other government issued photo ID to get into Canada, but then you can't come home.....  Oh and I already probably get some power from The plants at Niagara Falls here at my house....  Big operation for water power at the falls!

Jim, I was a bit bummed out that the hotel wouldn't let me charge up the PiP while I was there.  A lot of hotel chains will let people get a charge free or at a very low price and have level 2 chargers for EVs.  The guy at the desk was excited when I asked him, and said I was the first that ever asked.  He called the manager, and the manager said no.  In all honesty the outdoor outlets they have would have my charger cord going over the sidewalk, and the liability would be a problem I'm sure.

I had saved a couple miles of pure EV and still had it when I got caught in the traffic jam at customs.  I switched over to EV mode so the ICE wouldn't have to start up just to move the car 10 or so feet every once in a while.  It was backed up close to 3 miles, and I ran out of electric just as I left the customs booth.  Perfect spot for efficiency!  The gas gauge, by the time I got home was flashing the warning to get gas immediately and the distance left said I had 5 miles left when I pulled into my usual gas station here in town on the way to my house.  I drove 428 miles on the trip, and filled the tank with 7.9 gallons...  I actually had 2.5 gallons left in the tank and probably could have gone another 150 miles without running out of fossil fuel...  Gas millage was low this time as it was all on the petrol except for 10 miles, but 53 mpg ain't bad for freeway driving I think.

OK, I am flat out exhausted, so I'm heading to get some Zzz

See you in the morning!

Darn you Vince's, you got me hooked on B&O engines now! Laugh

 Later, Ken

JimCG .... Thanks for relaying the message.

Jerry ...... Your news is heartbraking. Condolences and prayers for you.

The Chapel Car is coupled to the Diner.

Hi Flo, I'll just have a mug of hot chocolate, please. Thank you. Smile

Jerry, very sorry to hear about SallyAshamed I know from earlier that she'd had some health problems, but it's never easy to have such a loss. My thoughts and AngelAngel for you and the family. I have emailed (CB&Q) Garry to let him know, also, since he's out on a trip currently and I know he'd want to know.

Ray, good to see you back SOTB (so to speak...). But I don't know yet if I believe PA Tom's take on your trip...Smile, Wink & Grin

Uh, Mr. David - it looks like you have had a rough night. How've things been for you and your company?

Karl, looks like you made yard sales very productive for you. Wish we had some here that had MRR stuff.

Prayers for comfort and healing of minds, bodies and souls, as well as a good night's rest and peaceful sleep.

[Edit]: And I have TOP, so start my tab and I'll cover it in the morning, Flo.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Jerry, I am so sorry to hear Sallie passed away! While she has gone to a better places and no longer suffers. You are left with a terrible void in your life. We are your friends and feel free to talk at the dinner, or by PM. I think it was Will Rodgers that said "Growing Old in not for the faint of heart". Losing a Love One is one of the hardest thing to endure. I hope you can find peaces tonight and forward in your life. If not, we will do what we can do! We are just a couple of clicks away.

Chapel car is getting used way to much in the last year or so.

Did some cleanup work on the layout today. It looks somewhat better. I put the new GP40 to work. It's on the head-end of a four loco consist of two GP40's (one Bachmann on GP38-2 chassis, one Atlas with Bachmann shell), a FM H24-66 (Atlas) and my U30E645 (Atlas). There are two other four loco consists on the layout awaiting their turn. One is made up of two Bachmann GP7's, a GP35 (rebuild) and a slug (Frankenloco). The other is made up of four FP7's. One is stock E-R Models power, one is a completely stock Atlas, one is an Atlas with PPW power and one is an Atlas with Athearn power.

Well that's it for today. See y'all tomorrow.

The bad news was it rained pretty good the whole time. Taking any photos was just about impossible.
