I used to study in the Geisel Library at U.C. San Diego and yes, it is named after Dr. Suess.  If you've seen the old TV show "Simon & Simon" there was a shot of this rather cool looking building during the opening theme.

My father used to know a fellow architect named William Dingledy.  His real life architectural firm was named "Bill Ding Design."

Look about halfway down page four of this thread, I had a nice lengthy list.  Read the whole thread for more ideas.

Locally we had a couple companies.....

Dr I Doctor - Optomitrist.  So when you went to him, you were doing to see, Dr. I Doctor the eye doctor.

I said there were a couple, the other one was real and would get me banned for life - maybe.Big Smile

A few from Terry Walsh, not previously mentioned:

  • Barque and Knotts Lumber Company.
  • Thrust and Parry Fence Company.
  • Laydee-Zunder Warehouse.

A 1:1 scale street, in Rapid City, SD - Kno Plc.  Sum Plc. is one street north.

I have a (paid) bill from Watt's Up Electrical Contractors.

Also:
  • Olympic Conveyors - Faster, Higher, Stronger.
  • Model Garage  (Anyone remember Popular Mechanics magazine?)
  • Russ T. Week Iron and Steel.
  • Thunder Valley Commode Company (With apologies to the Bristol Motor Speedway...)

A bow to some of my favorite science fiction:
  1. Callahan's (Cross-Time Saloon)
  2. Mary's Place - another Spider Robinson saloon.
  3. Lady Sally's  Not exactly a saloon, although drinks are served.  (Lady Sally McGee, not Dame Sally, Lady Belfrage, DCOE.  The latter runs...
  4. Monolith Corporation  (Largest, most widespread and most diverse commercial enterprise in the Milky Way Galaxy.  Literally into EVERYTHING.)

North of Indianapolis is a gas station/diner called "Eat Here and Get Gas".

There's a local car dealership that used to run commercials with the tagline "You don't know Jack Schmitt."

Some real life examples would include, M. Box and Son Funeral Home and Robert Trench Funeral Home. No, really, those are real funeral homes.
