Gary,
Life is that way at times. Other times it is better, sometimes worse.
Do you have a roof over your head? do you have clothes on your back? Food in your tummy? A few dollars in your pocket from time to time? Gas in your tank? Then you are better of fthan half the world's population.
As JaBear said would you like some of our problems?I try to be happy and uplifting, BUT, I am also one who has been venting lately about MOH getting fired, our income cut in half, and about to lose EVERYTHING in about 2 months if something dosen't change and change Quickly!
MOH is highly unemployable due to age. I am on disability and so "retired" already. MOH will go back to school to get retrained in the health field because there are JOBS there, IF MOH can pass the age test!
MOH is severely depressed over losing job, doesn't eat well if at all, sleep patterns messed up, is down, won't go out and do anything {not that we can afford that anyway}
Student loans will carry us, BUT classes don't start until September!!! MOH will take a burger flipper job if need be, BUT MOH is SERIOUSLY DEPRESSED about losing job!
I haven't run trains except on the under the table top tree {a circle of track WEE!} since the end of the year. I haven't had a hobby budget in 2 years for ANYTHING train related. Usually every summer we go out of town to go to a steam train tourist run {MOH enjoys steam trains too} but LAST year MOH's job FOUGHT over vacation time AND we had no money to go anywhere anyway! This year will be the same.
The "you are young yet grasshopper" line IS cliche as JaBear says, but has a fruitful meaning line often wasted on youth!
Study hard, do well in school, get your education, keep your nose CLEAN and SOBER, SAVE MONEY FOR THE FUTURE "RAINY DAY"- it may come SOONER than you think! YOU WILL come out on top! Everything WILL fall into place for you if you do that all...It just seems a downer" now.
We are about as low as we can go, only backruptcy, and actually going homeless are lower, we may get there...but there is no place to go but UP form here!
So, chin up, old pal {young 'un}, THINGS WILL get better!
ANd, YES, you are "over thinking this", but we all can do that from time to time.

Heck Gary life can get us all down from time to time, I could say something trite like "you're too young to feel this way" but I'd be wrong.
However take a look around at our fellow Diners , would you like some of their problems?, I certainly wouldn't, does it get them down, obviously yes from time to time, but overall a fine bunch of folks who just keep boxing on, whilst giving cheer and prayers to others.
"maybe I'm overthinking it but it just feels like there's no more point to any of this."
The point is who's going to keep me up with the play regarding BN N Gauge.
Hope you'll cheer yourself up, but if not is there a counsellor at your school that you could talk too?
I usually sign off here in the Diner with a general Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them, but I don't think anyone will mind if you have the lot tonight.
Cheers, the Bear.

Evenin' folks!
Janie, just my usual decaf for the moment please...
I actually managed to get a few minutes to do a bit more scenery today. Just put the foliage on the trees planted in the area and a coat of diluted dry wall mud over the next small strip of land behind the tracks by the bridge.
I finally caught Blackie throwing up tonight right after he had his big meal and right after his night meds. Last night he went back to the couch and (probably him) threw up on the hand made throw on the couch (made by my late wife close to 30 years ago). That got thrown in the wash last night and then hung up to dry. I will call the vet first thing tomorrow. I will probably have to start Blackie on the insulin now. Have no idea how I will get the blood test taken care of as it appears to take 2 people to do that and I is only one people! He seemed to be doing great on the low dose of the pills too. Now it may be something caused by the canned food? Who knows.
Got an email from one of our MLK committee members that she is having to take a leave of absence due to some circumstances she didn't elaborate on. I wrote her back that I am saddened and will miss her. She has only been on the committee a couple of years, and I hope there is nothing seriously wrong going on!
Prayers for all in need! Have a great night!

Hey guys
Been kinda busy today. Aside from the upset stomach this morning I've been pretty busy.
Ken, They've been ready for a few days, I just either haven't had the money or the time... I'll get them out tomorrow.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Vince, Guess what I forgot to send with the check? Found them last night while digging thought the mound of junk on my desk. Bag on detail parts for the SD 40-2 I sent you. I will send them to you as soon as I get the engines. Little motivation for you.
I am beat, see you all later.

jeffrey-wimberlyNow why the heck didn't I think of that?! As often as I buy stuff on Ebay that should have been obvious.
Lets see, I drove to Calgary that was $50 for gas then I bought the Baby radio throttle not not+not= hmmm If I'd ordered it from Ebay It would have been about the same price AND I wouldn't have had to spend 4 hrs on the freeway. Duh.

Say, is it just me or does anyone else find they uncontrollably hold their breath while doing fine tedious w**k. "Painting" those little floor tiles has made me dizzy. I just keep finding myself holding my breath. Can't help it. Probably because I fog up the magnifying light. (chuckle)
Brenda wanted to go to the Chinese buffet But she wanted to go to the "other one". Food wasn't very good today either. Not the place's norm. Even my regular one has off days though not usually Sundays, but the waitress though are MUCH better Brenda doesn't think so however. She says these are easier to understand and they do more waitressing and less smiling. Besides, if we get "that one" I never know what'll happen to my drink. She doesn't think she likes her.
Galaxy- "if" it's squeeling, then usually it's the guides, like Jeff said, or the bearing. usually. Both are fairly easy to replace. You do have to take some of the dryer apart if it's the slides, but if it's the bearing, sometimes you can get to it only by taking the small panel off the back of the dryer. I did both and the belt on our old one even though it was just the bearing, but I figured....why not, it's apart. Now it will take some time for you, maybe a couple hours to an afternoon (I know you just can't do alot of things without breaks), but it's not bad and a WHOOOOLE lot cheaper than a new dryer. Dryers come apart pretty easy. Of course you may want to move it out of the laundry area. I know you live in a mobile home and they don't have the most room. That may also be a show stopper if you can't get it out, or have no place to do it. But if you haveroom to pul it out and have room to move around it fairly easily, it will save you a bunch. I know a repairman will be expensive as well but still may not be not as much as a dryer. I know every penny counts as 5 now.
Gonna say something else too but I can't remember...... oh well, bout time for me to meet my buddy up to the restaurant to watch cartoons.
EDIT- Well I see that got me late night snacks and seeins how it's Sunday, moren likely breakfast tomorrow as well, so order up.
Well let see now. Supper is over, the cleaning up is done and it's still daylight out? Oh right it's Daylight saving time of year again. Darned if I know how we save daylight Are we supposed to keep it a coffee can or something? I also have no idea where I'm supposed to store the stuff either. Oh I know in my RR room where everything else goes
Went down to Calgary yesterday and managed to accomplish two things aside from burning $50 worth of gas.
Bought a Digitrax throttle for dummies, the dummies being me in this case. I detest the full featured throttle for regular running. Seem to foul it up every time I use it without the manual in front of me. Anyway I love the little guy. The other thing I managed to do was get some use out of my SIL who is a Linux wizard. Took a spare windows notebook and USB Loco buffer down with me and got him to get rid of Windows 7 whose "Subscription" had expired (Get this.... MS wants $135 to get a new subscription. Heads up on this one) They can go take a long walk off a short pier. My MS Office is also needing it's "Subscription" renewed.
They finally did it. They will not get one penny more out of me.
Opps RANT OVER....now where was I?
Oh yes, my SIL reformatted the whole hard drive and installed Linux and JMRI on it plus set the JMRI up for my Digitrax command station. Now I can program all those dcc engines... well, as soon as I sort out JMRI a little. Sigh, I feel like a rank beginner in the computer world right now, even though I've been using some sort of computer since 1967. Oh well, the current theory is that Old Dogs can learn new tricks so we'll go with that
Even ran a few trains today and had a small derailment which ended up blowing the trucks right off of an ore car. Have to fix that one.
Beautiful Day here with lots of Sun. Must be that extra daylight

Everybody ..... Darren's video is worth the time for watching.
While we are on the subject of Alaska, here are photos I took about 10 years earlier than Darren's trip. I wish I had a video camera with me.
Here is the train arriving in Anchorage from Fairbanks.
Here is the RDC which followed the train from Anchorage. It stopped anywhere along the line, and people carried canoes, camping gear, and so on.
I road the passenger train from Anchorage to Fairbanks in the locomotive. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain all of the way, and I took very few pictures.
Here we are arriving in Fairbanks in the rain.
The return trip to Anchorage was in the locomotive of the tank train. Petroleum products are shipped from the refinery in Fairbanks to the port in Anchorage. They also, ship jet fuel to the Anchorage airport. I rode in the locomotive of the local train to and from the airport.
Look at the closest tank car. We nearly had a major catastrophe on the train from Fairbanks. The loaded tank car imploded on the way. It did not rupture, and the 30 to 40 cars behind it remained coupled to it. When we were arriving in the Anchorage yard, the yard tower man informed us of the problem. He was the first to see it.
This building is the ARR headquarter building. It was brand new, and office furniture was being delivered at the time. The harbor is beyond the building.
Very cool, Darren!!
Dennis, Jeff hit the nail right on the head!!!! I do not EVER want to do it again! Thanks for the comments, guys and Rob!
Well , I flubbed my NASCAR pics again, only 2 points. Sheesh, you'd think I'd be a bit better after 6 years picking on the local tavern board!
Waiting for MOH to get home from a Wallyworld run, then roast beef for dinner.
That's all, be back in later!

can't wait for those rapido lighting kits to arrive I'm anxious to try them out, I also want that book on BN engines. figure out what details I need to find so I can make my locos that much closer the the BN ones.
Hi Guys,
Just wanted to stop in and say Hi. I am very much enjoying my new job. Its a little on the dusty and dirty side but the day goes by quick and the pay is good. They have asked me to work 9 hour day's for the foreseeable future and on Saturdays. So at the end of it I will be working a 54 hour week. The wife got a new phone yesterday as her old flip phone finally died, She got a iPhone ( she has wanted one for years ) its kind of cool, now I want one lol. I haven't had a desire to get a smartphone really but after playing around with her's I might have to think about it.
I also bought a new light for my workbench, one of those swing light ones. Wow, its handy for working on stuff and it was on sale at the hardware store. On my bench though I have a piece of 1x4 lumber that I use to hold clamps and stuff and its starting to split so If I find that moving the swing light too much is causingthe wood to move too much I might have to replace it with a new piece of wood, but for the moment is holding fine so Im not going to wrroy about it until I run into a problem.
Well Im going to go back to listening to some Spring training baseball and the Nascar race while cleaning track. At least I can say I got something completed on the layout this weekend. Im heading over to my parents house later for a BBQ.
Have a good Sunday guys
Jeremy
It's Sunday, so we had to go railfanning today. Especially with the weather we are having here. A little cloudy, but temperatures in the mid sixties. Nice to sit in the car with the windows down and appreciate the fresh air. We were worried at first, as we sat for a little over an hour and not one choo-choo. But then the fates took pity on us and delivered 8 in the next hour. Including 3 engines running light and one very long train consisting of nothing but empty spine cars. Must be a big need for them somewhere.
Came home and got the lawn mower ready to take to the shop tomorrow for a tune up. Got to get ready for that chore, and it hasn't been tuned up for awhile.
Looking forward to dinner, as one of my favorite meals is simmering in the crock pot and smells great. Beef stroganoff, noodles, dinner rolls and a bottle of Diamond from Seneca Lake. All's right in my little corner of the world this day.
Hope everybody has an even better day tomorrow than todays.

Woke up to the stabbing pain under the right shoulder blade again. Won't be doing anything much today either. BEcause of numbness in a foot/anke/and a few inches up one leg, have adjusted my sarc treatment. Frustrating!

Good Sunday afternoon! Clouds and 35f. We're on the northern edge of a winter storm warning, but it should stay south. Hope so!
Voted weather or not to keep Pastor Ron for another 4 year term at Church this morning.Voted YES. He can really bring the thunder.
Watching a little NHL before the NASCAR race this pm.
Got more ballasting done, then ran out of white glue. A trip to Menards for another gallon will have to wait til next week. Good. I hate ballasting.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, How about a couple slices of french toast with new NYS Maple Syrup (Yep, the sap is running), a few slices of bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug.
Got a phone call from my youngest son in Chicago last night. He is very excited, a bit nervous, and extremely tired. Had a long week meeting with Secret Service agents and the White House Advance Team. (Please note! This is not intended to in any way start any political discussion here, just stating fact about my family!!!) Yep, the President of the United States is coming to Argonne National Laboratory next Friday. Of course, since my son is the Director of Communications, Public Affairs, and Education at the Lab, he is the person from the Lab making all the arrangements there and seeing to it everything is done right. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/08/us-obama-energy-idUSBRE92710D20130308 He says, "...a challenge but certainly a high point in my career!" He will not likely personally meet the President but will be in the room where the conference/speech will be held.
I again got up this morning to find several piles of kitty vomit on the carpets..... Have yet to see either of them doing it, but Manét doesn't seem right and I think it might be him. i hope he is not coming out of remission with his Feline Urinary Tract problem... Blackie appears to be alert and eating well. I dunno. I will try to get an appointment tomorrow morning first thing if I find more piles then.
Ulrich, great way to plow out the sidewalk??? Nice video. Think it has been shown before, but great one to see again.
Galaxy, sorry to hear the dryer is wearing out. Check on "last years" models, etc. that might still be around. Good luck!
OK, now to find that lost hour some are talking about. I seem to have lost it as well!
[edit] Looks like lunch is on me today.... Chloe has my Credit Card, but please go a bit easy as I put the dental work on it earlier this week.... 73
