Good Morning!!!
Coffee and eggs benedict please. Thanks.
High of 66°F!!! Getting there.
Ray- Florida huh? Hm. Well you might add Illinoy to the list. No I know you would add Illinoyz to the list if you heard the goins on next to me. See this fella, in his thirties, was saying he doesn’t know how the “B” restriction (corrective lenses requirement) got on his license. He’s never had glasses or contacts and doesn’t need them. No he didn't have them last time he took the test…….as I was walking out, he was still taking his eye exam, which consisted of reading “line 2” and it was just three groups of three numbers. He’d been there quite a few minutes and like I said as I was walking out I heard the lady saying, “no....that’s not it…..no….no not 2….the last two number are right, the first number is not…..no.” Now I figure with a little bit of time…..of course this fellow wasn’t smart enough just to go 1 through 9. I guess, he was actually trying to figure it out. Oh and he was on his last try of the “skills” portion of getting his..(gulp) CDL. “No ma’am, I didn’t flunk it….I just ran out of time, so I get to try again.” Somehow the keys got locked in the truck and, well….they ran out of his scheduled time. Kinda curious how this turns out really.
GOOD DAY!!! I learned what “Philippic” means. I say any day you learn something, no matter how small…., is a good day.
Ulrich- Maybe your Brother would like to mediate? Sarcasm, but a good suggestion should he voice his opinion to you. Hey, here’s an idea….tell them to call him. No, but seriously, I sure hope they grow to realize the place isn’t that bad. It’s just they’ve been so independent and pride doesn’t allow them to accept this phase of their lives. Plus the other issues, causes a lot of grief for the loved ones affected. Maybe they need time to see it a different way. Like sayin, why do you want to mess with all the things involved with a house now? It’s time to downsize and let go of those worries kinda speech. Don’t know. But you and your folks are in my prayers.
Walked around the house yesterday….hoo boy. Lotta w**k out there. Bout three years worth.
Best take a nap and think about it.
Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Well guys,
Its Friday and I am happy about that. I cant wait for 4pm today I hope its somewhat busy at work as that makes the day go by fast. I will drop by later tonight. I have to go to the art supply store tonight to pick up some paints. And then Michaels sometime on the weekends to pick up some fine liner brushes.
See you all tonight.
Morning coffee in then diner with friends...

Thanks Vince I may pick up another just so I can get a short 11 car train moved instead of the poor little NW2 trying with all it's might not to stall. Or I could pair it with my atlas GP15-1 that thing is a brute, I just need a horn for it.

Bill Tidler Jr.
Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Just sliding in for a nightcap, decaf that is!
Train wise, been a productive day. Mantua 0-6-0 got decoder and lights installed. The decoder came out of an SD40-2 that got upgraded to a Tsunami, along with a GP38-2 that also got a Tsunami!
3 installs DONE!
Tomorrow the weatherguessers are predicting temps in the upper 50's with copious sunshine, so the 3 Midland Geeps will get their blue paint tomorrow, and a D&H C420 will get its lighter blue also! That is, after I get my outdoor chores done. You know, bringing in wood, sweeping out the garage. SWMBO leaves the garage door open on windy days, wonders why it fills with leaves??
Jeffrey, that Pinto wagon reminds me of one a guy I used to work with had. He put a V8 in it, somehow cracked the frame. Tried to sell it as is, nobody wanted it. So he pulled the motor and trans. cut the car in half and put 1/2 in the shop dumpster 1 week, the other half the next week!
Ulrich,, be safe, go to the hospital!
Well, the Sandman is callin,,,,,gotta go!
Karl
NCE über alles!
Well I have the new motor in the FP7. I got it wired, shafts put in, motor hot glued in place after much eye-balling to make sure all was right. Hooked the motor to the decoder and sent it off on a test run. It runs very well but buzzes like a hair trimmer. Oh well, can't have everything. That's better than what it WAS doing. Went into town earlier today to make a bank deposit, went to Lowe's to get several types of small screws then the post office to send a something I didn't want back to a club I belong to, at their expense.Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Ken, that decoder has been BBQd for a while. I just put it there to show what I meant by trimming the prongs so a DH123 will fit. The prongs should work, I just have a hard time soldering to those tabs. It was working when I was testing it earlier.
As for the Gp20's weird starting and stopping, the wire for the ground must have came loose. I can't recall if I soldered it or used a screw or both. Check for the black wire from the harness. It may need to be re-soldered, or it broke. I can't get really small brass screws or washers for using screws around here..
As for the square in shape and two tabs? Is it kinda reverse-rounded on one side? If so, that's the original motor mount. I recall I tossed it in there. I found the other one today. You won't need it on the Kato-motored one.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Just a notch over 2am here and I am up again. My heart woke me up, racing like an Indy car. I have not felt that bad since my last heart attack. If i don´t improve, I´ll wake up Petra to take me into the hospital.
I guess it´s has been just too much lately for my old ticker to merrily tick along.
Ken: Sounds like you have a loose connection or possibly something going on with the motor.
*
I've been working on an FP7 that had a bum motor. I removed the old motor, took the flywheel and shaft extension off it then hooked it up to a Bachmann power pack and turned to throttle up. Lots of vibration. Looks like my thought about the brushes or commutator was a bit off. Looks more like a bad pole. I've fitted the flywheel and shaft extension to another motor. It's a little shorter in length than the old one but the shaft ends are a little longer so that helped make up for it. I got the right length sorted out front and rear for the shafts so now I have to wire the motor then set it back in with the shafts again and secure it in place. This is how far I've gotten at this point:
Evening Dinners.

Interesting Train Day.
Went to K-10 and blew the budget for the next few months. I now have 1 NIB engine, 2 New to Me engines and 2 of my old engines back.
New Bachmann GP 30 PRR. So far a big disappointment. While I don't mind the lack of details it is still a good looking engine with me being half blind. But it makes a lot of racket! But I all so did not lube it nor have I gave it any real break in time. I pulled it to lube before I hurt anything.
Vince, I did get your package today and and have a few questions. Oh, by the way thank you so much for sending it Priority Mail, I will pay you back for that.
One of my old PK F 3 showed up with the worm gear cover and and drive shaft off. It is the one with the Kato motor in it. I have found all the parts and one that I don't know what it is? It is sort of square in shape and has 2 tabs. Looks like there is a ware pattern from the worm gear, but looking at the other engine have no clue to where it should go?
Did you test run the GP 20? It showed up with with a BBQ decoder in it, not a good sign. This is a question for you, Jeffery and anyone else with a idea. I installed a new decoder, used Decoder Pro and it and it read the decoder just fine. Placed on the track and lights came on but would not move. Moved it back and forth and still nothing. Took it of the track, then placed it back on and off she went! Must be dirty wheels, so I cleaned them. Placed it on the A Line to drag some coal, did the same thing? Placed it on the B line, moved back and forth, nothing? Tried picking it up again, re-railed and it now doing just fine?
While the GP 20 is in a Blue PK 2000 box and has a can motor in it it looks like it has PK 2000 Brown Box / Athearn BB trucks? Decoder install while it maybe be factory looks like a Digitrax AT wiring harness. Just slip on clips, think that may be the problem?
Have not installed decoders in the B&O SD 9 but boy it looks sweet!
See you all later!

Packer1 each should be enough. Eventually I'll get around to casting them to make loads for racks.
jeffrey-wimberly PackerJeff, I forgot to ask about an athearn 54' PS hoppers you may have thrown out. I need a few to cut up into Magor hoppers (cheaper than buying the $45 Exactrail one). Also are those planet toys cars HO scale? I may be interested in the escorts and pintos, just to put them on racks. No hoppers of the type you describe. I could spare one Escort and one Pinto. They're slightly weathered as are all the other vehicles.

Evening All,
Had the wimp version of Jambalaya tonight. Also had a cup of coffee after words, as it tends to settle my stomach.
Went up to the LHS and picked up the cars Phil left for me. I will be able to use all of them after some minor tweaking and weathering.
This week on the RR front I "planted" 50 more trees and put in mile markers (Tichy) on the 2 main ROW. Next week I plan on building the Tichy milk platform and putting it by the farm. Today I ordered PRR whistle and Bell Posts from WrightTrak. After that I think I am pretty much done with the details I want to do on the layout.
Tomorrow I am driving up to Gainesville for my NHRA fix.
I posted in the DCC section of the forum concerning isolating the TT/RH area. If anyone can help with that I would appreciate it.
Galaxy- I continue to say prayers for you and YOH. I hope YOH finds something soon.
Ulrich- Sorry to hear that you are still getting dragged back to the nursing home. I sure hope you get some relief soon.
Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Afternoon guys.
I cleaned up my workshop/room since I got a shelving unit. I found out I don't have 3 ABBA sets of Fs. I have an extra ABB set... Two of those are in SP black widow, and I'll probably sell them later. The third is an early F3B, and will likely become an RCU car. As a plus, I realized I have almost enough stuff to knock out all 3 sets, save for beacons, horns, antenna, winterization hatches, cut levers, and plows (I have 3 SP plows, I might be able to sell them or mod them to work) I also found a few P2K GP drives, and some cars I didn't know I had, and another duplicate car...
Gary, I like the engine
Ken, With that extra $250, you might be able to spring for that EM1 you wanted if you look around.

Well
MOH applied to the local hospital for volunteering. You'd think they want all the volunteers they can get as they are always clamoring for them, so we may hear something. It may not pay, but increases contacts and possibilities for future gains in employment.....Also keeps MOH busy and out of "depression" if MOH has some purpose to look forward to.
The problem with all these electronic resumes and applications is that while it may tell you it was "successful" it doens't give you ANY idea what becomes of it when done. You never know if anybody EVEN EVER gets to look at it. With a paper hand-in resume application, you at least get to hand it to a person and assume the manager will at least glance at it, even if the ultimately throw it away.
Maybe we will hear, hopefully soon.
MOH is disagreeing with me over selling the Kia, as doesn't want to. BUT I am the financial "wizard" of the family and pay all the bills. MOH is content to know they are paid, And doesn't want to hear that we are in trouble paying them! If I wasn't so good at saving something each paycheck...even if only $6, we wouldn't have ANY money to coast these last two months. BUT it WILL run out, and the tax refund will only last so long and I will not Wait til they are towing it away {we DO have cash value in it now} to say "I TOLD you so"! I pointed THAT out to MOH. Sigh was the response. It WILL Come sooner than later! If MOH doesn't do SOMETHING to bring money into the household!
ENough of our problems..I see ULRICH is at his wits end, WE are too with FIL, MIL and no where near his troubles YET.
I see KEN gets mild reprieve on home, so he is OK for now. Hope it goes through for him He is better off than we are..>I can't begin to THINK of buying new trains, K10 hobby shop or not! I haven't had a hobby budget in 2 years now! And while our home is paid for, the land is LEASED, so we are still close to having to sell if need be! MOH doesn't want to hear THAT either! Of course we can't rent for as "little" {a lot to us right now} as we pay for lot rent, BUT WE have to pay the maintenance here!
Coffee in a BURLINGTON NORTHERN mug, please.
***Jeffrey, nice Exxon scene!
Been contemplating the future (HO) expansion, more than doing any physical work on it.
Two hired hands got a lot done here on the farm today. Will probably have them both back on Monday.
Cheers! Rob

Ulrich, My father passed away in 1974, 3 months shy of their 40th anniversary. He was as patient as a saint. My mother was widowed for 38 years, until her passing two years ago, just 3 moths shy of her 97th birthday. Her short term memory had pretty much faded away, but she still recalled many things from years past, in particular a garage sale she had about 30 years ago, when she believed that a neighbor "stole" a used toilet seat that was priced at $0.25. No proof, of course. I think she just forgot to mark it down.
PLEASE watch your health issues and take care of yourself first. My brother spent several years trying to get my mother into assisted living or a nursing home. She would agree to it but then somehow "sabotage" the process during the interview procedure. He passed away 7 years at age 70, still unsuccessful in his efforts. Finally, after two more years, we (my brother's family) were able to get her into an assisted/nursing facility close to my brother's family (300 miles from me).
Gary
Dennis - the selection was intentional, the whole situation of my parents is like this - their life crumbling, add to that the coldness my mother is showing and the bitter sweetness of me trying to help them enjoy the rest of their life.
Galaxy - unless you are declared unable to reason by a court ruling, no one can stop you from having as much money on your hand as you like. Of course, the nursing home discourages having larger sums at your disposal to prevent theft, but it is up to you to follow this request. Guess how many times I have been trying to talk my parents into depositing this amount (over 1,000 bucks)?
Sir MadogZoe, coffee and a slice of that cherry crumble pie, topped with vanilla ice cream and sprinkles of bitter sweet chocolate, please:
How appropriate Sir Madog, and totally understandable. "The Bitter Sweet Chocolate" that is. This is bringing back memories of two years ago with my Mother. Same battle, different players. At least I had power of attorney.
Hang in there Sir, this to will pass and you will survive believe it or not.

alrighty not feeling as bad as I was yesterday, let's get this show on the road hopefully my MT couplers got here so I can swap the rapidos(and a set of Kato knuckles out).

Happy Pi Day! On March 14, mathematicians, scientists and everyone else who just loves pi (or pie) celebrate Pi Day—so named for the Greek symbol π, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. The number’s first three digits are 3.14, so its holiday (which was officially designated by the House of Representatives in 2009) falls on 3/14.
ULRICH- I am surprised your mother is allowed to keep ANY money. Here, in hospitals, nursing homes, etc, they strongly suggest NO ONE keep amy money OR restrict anyone for having money so no claims of anyone stealing it cna happen. IF one DOES have money, it can be locked in the hospital/nursing home safe so it is secure. You NEED to leave her with NO MONEY so she has none to STEAL. Tell her you sill take it ot the bank for her and deposit it and DON'T give her any other way to get any money!!! SAD when we take all cars, houses, drivers licenses, money and dignity away from our elders, but NEEDS to be done!!!
Well MOH is napping now, but will hit the jobs taril soon I hope. Hopefully I can get MOh to apply to volunteer at the local hospital. They always need help and MOH will get networking done there. also not leave gaps in MOH's work history! It may not pay, but will give MOH experience and something to feel worthwhile about!
SLeep came last night and this AM for me finally. I slept form 10:30 pm to 6:30 AM with only one stop to the facilities and right back off to sleep, Then I went back for a nap at aobut 8:30 and slept to 11:30 !!! SO catching up! FINALLY!!! Feeling like another nap this afternoon, but MOh may want help with things.
Well off to do some chores and have lunch!
Morning Again

Conferences call with BoS, Green Path and I. Call went a little better than I expected! First, the Modification Case has been reopened again! So that means I am not going to be foreclosed on anytime soon, like next month. My file has never made to underwriting to be Officially turned down because lack of a paper trail from Sues SSI Payments. To be honest, the longer I can drag this out the better I feel, I don't think BoS will help in the long run! Longer it takes gives Shaddy time to pass away in her home. While she seems in good health, 10 years is a long life for a Irish Wolfhound.
Paycheck, hum lot fatter than I thought! Seems I hit a Mystery Bonus of $100.00 and the mystery to me is what did I do to get it? Sure would like to know so I can do it again! Plus it looks like the company paid me for the Snow Day we where shut down? Only thing I can guess with me getting a extra 8 hour's of O/T? Anyway I look at it, my check is for $250.00 more than I figured and I will take it!
So now I will not feel guilty when I go to K-10 Model Trains and buy a new engine.
See you later, time for a nap.
Good Afternoon!
Well, I am back from that emergency visit to my parents. Of course I found all those missing things, including the money. My Mom had "stolen" it from herself, just to have a few hundred bucks on her hand when she leaves Dad.
What followed was a Philippic statement from my side. Spare me the details, but at least I have reached an armistice between the two. I just wonder for how long. Should hostilities be resumed, I´ll drop out of this game.
Zoe, coffee and a slice of that cherry crumble pie, topped with vanilla ice cream and sprinkles of bitter sweet chocolate, please:
Good morning. It's 49° with 55% humidity. The high will be 70°.I'm getting a late start today. After yesterdays closet cleaning I think I'll take a break today. There's still more layout cleanup to do and I may get to that later. Another problem that needs addressing is one of my FP7's has a bum motor. It runs though it's noisy. It's to the point that when it stops it doesn't always want to move again. Usually a sharp tap takes care of that. I thought it could be a loose connection so I checked everything over and resoldered any suspect connections. No difference. So I ran it chassis only stopping and starting it until it failed to start again. I used my meter to check for continuity across the motors terminals and there was none. Aha. A fault in the commutator? A brush going bad? Who knows? I tapped the motor with a screwdriver and continuity returned. Pretty obvious the motor will have to be changed out at some point.
Mornin' I think..... Ah, yep It seems to be morning here at the moment.
Zoe, I'll have the Eggs Benedict and my cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug today.
Slept like a rock all night.... Of course when I do that I have trouble getting moving even to just get out of bed! Blackie gets his morning pill at 9:30 AM and it took me until 9:40 to roll out of bed, stand up, and visit the room at the end of the hall... Some old guy with a beard was staring back at me in there. I made an evil gesture at him (the nerve!) and he did the same back at me. Actually it was good to get a good nights sleep as that hasn't been happening a lot lately.
Ulrich, sorry to hear the saga just seems to keep going. Good luck sorting out all that has to be done. My father, as soon as he got home from the hospital after his heart attack, decided to give power of attorney to both my sister in Canandaigua and me. He also had one drawn up for my mother who wanted no part of it. I loaded them both into my pickup truck and drove to town to the lawyers office. The lawyer came out to the truck with the prepared forms for us to sign. My Mother said, "What is this!!!" Dad just said shut up and sign it! She insisted she needed to know what it was. He insisted she ,"Shut up and sign". After he yelled at her loudly a few times she signed because she didn't want him to make a scene in front of the nice man... "Who was that dear?" "Never mind!" Having that piece of paper made a world of difference getting Mother care during her last years. She finally gave me her checkbook and let me just take care of things for her. She was already in mid stage dementia when she signed the paperwork and had no clue what it was she was signing.
Todd, thanks for the warning. If they won't take VISA, I ain't paying! Here in NY you have to prove you don't need hearing aids to get the license renewed. So my license has a code "J" on it so I have to be wearing my hearing aids in order to drive the car. Luckily it doesn't say they have to be turned on, I just have to be wearing them. What you need to do is get a little trailer in Flowiduh. You live there one day over 6 months each year and then you will qualify for a Floweeduh Drahvers Lahsince. No vision test, no hearing test, don't even have to be able to walk. Just have someone wheel you in to the office, pay the fee and they will give you permission to drive anywhere in the U S of A I hear... I have family down there, BTW....
Ken, good luck with the confreres call...
I better see if I can still keep moving... Not even dressed yet and I have to be at my son's house in three and a half hours. Catch you all later!

Sitting here waiting for the BoS and Green Path confreres call. There is a web address on the back of my wife's SSI card, I am thinking I may be able to get a print out of her SSI payments from there site. That may or may not help dealing with BoS, we will see.
Ulrich best of luck dealing with your parents, just remember it is not your mothers fault that things are clouded in her mind. I am starting to have my fair share of Senior Moments my self!
See you all later, Ken
