Now that's funny, LION!!
'Bout spit out my barley pop! Can't wait to call my daughter the Viqueen fan and tell her that one!We, of course, are Green Bay Packer fans. They won't win, either!
With the exception of Church I've spent the major part of this weekend downstairs swapping out wheelsets. Got all the freight cars done and moving on to passenger cars.Kind of relaxing hearing the " clickity clack" in the background as a train goes by.
Hope things are improving for everybody. Today's message was Psalm 37, "fret not and have faith and delight in " you-know-who". Works for me.

***Terry, nice layout pic. Looks like it's going to be a close call though.
SUPER BOWL: Neither will my Falcons or Seahawks or Cardinals win. Maybe I should root for the Ravens, since after all they are still a "bird team".
I'm just curious, anyone know what type of tank car is being used with these locos and if it would be carrying extra water or oil? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIbMcJ3jxKo

I thought you would want to know about this e-mail virus. Even the most advanced programs from Norton or McAfee cannot take care of this one. It appears to affect those who were born prior to 1956.
Symptoms:
1. Causes you to send the same e-mail twice. done that!
2. Causes you to send a blank e-mail! that too!
3. Causes you to send e-mail to the wrong person. yep!
4. Causes you to send it back to the person who sent it to you. Aha!
5. Causes you to forget to attach the attachment. well darn!
6. Causes you to hit "SEND" before you've finished. Oh, no - not again!
7. Causes you to hit "DELETE" instead of "SEND." and I just hate that!
8. Causes you to hit "SEND" when you should "DELETE." Oh No!
IT IS CALLED THE "C-NILE VIRUS."

Hi Fellas,
Just sitting here listening to the pre-game show. I'm not one to go out to a super bowl party even though football is one of my favorite sports. Its a shame my packers are not there. Been enjoying so junk food today also chips, wings, pizza, lol.
Also reading more of Model railroad planning. I ran some trains today and built a couple freight car kits that have been gathering dust beside my workbench. I start my new job tomorrow, well kind of. I have orientation at 10am but I think it will only be a few hours at the most and I don't start actually until Wednesday night at 7pm. I don't know how I will hold up doing a night shift, 12 hours at that. Anybody that works 12 hours or night have any tips they can lend?
Thanks, fellas.

Evening All,
Waiting for supper (pork chops). I weathered my 2 new box cars and cut the carboard strips I need for my next project. Now I am waiting on the conveyor belt and rock faces before making the carboard lattice. Other than that I have been watching Ziva for several hours.
I go back to w**k tomorrow so I will talk to you all Wednesday night.

Anybody remember the Heidi Bowl? Poor NBC sure got their clock cleaned on that one! The Oakland Raiders scored two touchdowns in the final minute to win the game. Problem was a lot of people didn't see that! The game ran long (scheduled slot was three hours). At the end of that three hours (New York Jets were winning). NBC executives had ordered that Heidi start on time. As 7 pm approached, many members of the public called NBC with questions about the schedule, or to complain, jamming NBC's switchboards. As NBC executives were trying to call the same switchboards to implement their decision, the change could not be communicated (the switchboards overloaded and shut down), and Heidi began as scheduled. The movie pre-empted the final moments of the game in the eastern half of the country and viewers were outraged because they missed two Oakland touchdowns that turned the game around. NBC didn't hear the end of that for MANY years.
Jeremy,
I have worked graveyards since 1994 and I have never gotten use to it. What I try to do is make sure I get at least 6-8 hours of sleep. I start at 11:30pm on Sunday and usually get back home Before noon. It is tough. You miss things like Sunday dinner and the Superbowl But my bills are paid and my wife and I enjoy a pretty nice life. I am very thankful to have my job and to work for a great company. One more thing, some of the guy's I work with keep the same sleep/awake schedule even on their days off instead of throwing their body,s back and forth on the weekend if that makes sense.
Good Luck to you.
Thayne
Well

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
that's a long time ago, I wonder how old this boxcar is?
Evening guys. I'm pretty wore out right now. I just pulled a 12 hour shift tyesterday followed by a 10 hour shift today... No breaks either way, but at least tomorrow is a normal shift.
I did play with trains friday though. I installed anticlimbers to my pair of BLI C30-7s. I notched the rear of the anticlimbers to go around the handrails. The only issue is the green I sprayed the anti-climber with didn't stick too well. It'll recieve touch up soon.
I still need to add beacons, antennae, plate over the class lights, and find a correct set of sideframes for one of the units. For some reason, BLI put different sideframes on the C30-7 depending on which cab it had. 4 windows had ones with outside brake cylinders, 2 with inside. The BN ones have inside ones.
I also experimented with automotive striping tape on some MDC thrall gons.
I figured doing this would be easier than masking off all but one end and painting it white (and of course adding decals. Everytime I've masked a factory-painted MDC car, the lettering has came off. The tape is about the right width to represent the stirpe used to mark the rotary end on similar cars. I haven't found a photo of an Thrall Gondola with the stripe (much less a picture of the thrall gons dated from the 70s or 80s)
Do you guys think I should just paint the rotary end white (I could touch up the lettering and such), or keep on with the tape?
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
I don't know the age of your boxcar but I do remember the '72 Dolphins were the ONLY UNDEFEATED team and STILL the only undefeated team .
Phil
Good Evening All,
Jeff - glad your Moms' service and the subsequent get togethers have gone well. It's always a stressful time.
Ulrich - I'm happy you got through those severe winds unscathed. We had gusts of 70 here during "Sandy" and everything not nailed down moved.
Just wandering through for a minute. Catching up on posts and all. Not much interest in "the game" since the Giants are not coming thriough with another spectacular victory..
Rob - the tanker between the engines is almost certainly for water. You can see the coal piled high in both tenders. When first introduced in Africa I think most of the Garretts used wood to fire and the proportions of the tenders would have been correct. With conversion to coal the water tenders would have been too small and so an auxilliary tender in the form of a tank car.
Bear and Jim - the gallantry and courage of the Anzac troops is unquestioned. I was inpressed by the number of monuments in both countries. My dad served initially in northern Austrailia before shipping out north to hop islands before being shot down off the coast of the Phillipines. He was part of a force with the ancronym ANZUS before ending up with the 5th bomb group 13th Air Force (think I have that right). I remember sitting with Aussie troops around Viet Nam time. I love the back and forth between the two countries but know if the chips are down you all have each others backs. And yes the accents are distinctly different. Sort of like North Carolina and Texas y'all.
Spent a couple of hours on the layout putting in the actuating rods for the turnouts. I am having one issue where the music wire needs lengthing. No matter what I try I can't get a good join on the .047" wire. I have some .047" i.d. tube to join them but solder won't stick and CA is ineffective. Any ideas? FWIW I'm trying to use rosin core with electric solder. I have access to everything else under the sun - braze, t.i.g.welding, crimping, etc. Can I use plumbing solder and acid flux? Just need to find what will stick.
Catch y'all later, J.R.
Hey, decided to come to the diner to see what it is about.
Ravens better get their act together, 49er's catching up fast. As far as Eagles making it to the Super Bowl, I'm not getting my hopes up.
My prediction, the Steelers are definitely not winning this one. Never putting money on the Mets.
Getting late, better go to bed, though I won't be sleeping for a litlle bit yet.

Jeff . Your family had so much food. Do you still have leftovers.
JR ... Sounds like a challenge with the wire. Sorry, I have no suggestions.
Vincent .... I bet you did a great job installing the anti-climbers, but it's hard to see in the photo.
Rob .... I did have a Bowser Pennsy T-1, but sold it.

Well, SF gave it a valiant try in the second half but lost by three points. 34-31 Ravens! Where were you when the lights went out?
I don't get local channels here so I went to my fathers place to watch the game there. My younger sisters other half wasn't happy. He was rooting for the 49ers.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a decaf for me right now. Ah, What's going on here? Seems like half the diners are jumping up and down with huge grins on their faces and the other half are on the verge of tears.... Huh? Oh the Stupid Bowl is over! Did the Bills win? What the Ravins...? Nevermore!
Jake! I'm sure Galaxy will explain the simple rules of etiquette and how to keep Cousin Vinnie happy.
Went to dinner at an excellent Italian restaurant over in Waterloo with the family tonight. We were celebrating my son's MIL's 65th. birthday. After dinner we went back to my son's house for cake and ice cream. When we got there the Stupor Bowl had just started. I watched a bit of it until my son had to go to w*rk (he got home from w*rk round 8:30AM this morning), and uncle Ben decided he needed to leave as well. The ladies then changed the channel and put on Nick for the kids and found the Fresh Beat Band Pizza fiasco to watch... I decided that was far worse than even the Supper Bowl, so I came back home where I don't have TV as a welcome relief!
Gave Blackie his evening meds a while ago. He appears to doing about the same, but did eat a lot of food after I gave him the pills. He then layed down on the carpet in the dining room and groomed himself. First time I have seen him do that in a week or so. I'll take it as a sign he may at least be feeling better?
About time to call it a night I think. Prayers for all in need...

***J.R., thanks for the info!
***Garry, I do have one of those BLI T1 versions on order. Suppose I need to make more time for work in the Train Room so it will have a place to roam.
Sounds like those Garratt models require a minimum of 20" radius.

Jake!
Alarming news about my dad. He seems to be getting ready for his final journey. He is hardly awake, and if he is, he is not able to speak. I am getting ready for my trip up north. Called my mom´s neighbors and they are with my mom right now. Guess I will be out for some time.
Blessings to all!
Good Morning All,
24F and intermittent snow showers today. Couldn't sleep, hacking and coughing maybe coming down wid eh code?
Jeremy - I used to stand watch in the Navy and the mid watch was toughest. When I got out the only job I could get was factory w..k on - you guessed it - the graveyard shift. Once I adjusted to the schedule again, I kept to it even on the weekends though I did weasel around it for social events, etc. It was ok until i found a mechanic job days.
I used to solder all this piano wire together when I built slot cars, don't know why I'm having so much agita with it but I'll try different solder and flux tonight and see.....
Ulrich - sorry to hear your Dad's going downhill. You and your family remain in our prayers.
Watched most of the game last night on and off. Actually very exciting though I don't much care for either team and therefore didn't care who won.
Time to get going to w..k I'll catch y'all later. J.R.
Jeff: You went to your Dad's to watch the game? I didn't think you liked football?
Ulrich : Sorry to hear about your Dad
Thanks for the tips Thayne and J.R. I hope I can adjust to it okay. I guess I will soon see. I have Orientation today at 10:00am, I don't think it will be more then a few hours. He said I didn't have to bring my work shoes so I can imagine it might be to just fill out some paperwork and such, I might give him a call quick before I go just to make sure because if it does run long I might need to bring a lunch. After that I'm going to the hobby shop about 30 minutes from here. I'm looking at a scrap steel load for my scrap yard. I just don't have enough junk parts or sprues to put together a convincing pile.
