yes, I  hope we can get everything sorted out by then and taken care of 14 minutes is way to close a call for me, then again so is 24 hours. you and me both will have big checks, I've been sitting on my tax return once I get that check I may be able to get myself a small MTL Z scale trainset.

Well, although that one asteroid did miss us, a fireball exploded over Russia.

Dennis- I will definitely be in Strasburg (unless life gets in the way) in May. I believe the current plan is May 16th (Pennsy Days at the museum). I'm trying to convince MOH to make the side trip to Altoona.

Evening All,

Had pork steak and stuffing for supper, and drinking a cup of coffee now.

I finished plastering the mine and small hill. It only took 5 1/2 rolls of  plaster cloth and around 4 hours. They are drying now (still damp). Tomorrow I plan on caulking on the rock faces and paint the plaster brown. Next week I plan on doing the ground cover on them.

Tomorrow we are taking my Dad out to supper for his 80th birthday.

Sunday I go back to w***k and my new schedule is Sun-Mon-Tues. Sunday they are projecting a high in the 50's and by Wed a high of 77 F. Got to love FL in the winter.

I am trying to convince MOH that in addition to going to Strasburg PA and Steamtown in May that we really need to go to Horseshoe Curve also.Whistling

Garry- Excellent modeling scene in WPF.

Hope everybody has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Well,

the lady and I finally got together ont eh phone with the SNAP program. She let slip that "WHEN it goes through, it would mean that...", then paused, and cleared her throuat and corrected herself to say "IF it goes through..." SO I am assuming we will get something, hwo much help it will be who knows? She also verrified my exsting card to be sure it was the correct card to use, so we should be getting something...

ALOHA! It is a beauteous 80F in OAHU today!!!

I certainly hope everyone has been enjoying my reports on railroads for Hawaii, obviously it was in its heyday earlier last century and the late one before, but still not small potatoes by any means! SUGAR plantations relied heavily on them. THe sugar plantations have reduced in HAwaii also so that contributed to the defunctness of the railroads. SHall I do more?

I had a whole post abojut a model railroad of Hawaiian railroad and the whole post disappeared when I accidentally clicked the closing "x" in the Tab! *POOF* Its gone!!! ANd NOW, OF course I can't find it again!!!! ARRGG!! DOuble ARRGG!!!

So...Here I sit all broken hearted...

PT is over for me. went today as the last day. I am not sure it did much good, but basically I have to excersize the knee and hip more, "not just use them". The best part was the massaging they woudl do to the knee and hip..which i cannot do myself, and will have to train MOH to do if i cna get MOH to do them.

I need to fillup on gas,,,will need a whole tank almost and I haven't needed that in awhile...so that will take aobut $80 with the 40 cent discount I get from the grocery store discount...helps some it'd be about $88 without the discount. SO I will take what I can get. That $80 represents my usually monthly amount for gas! So my budget is $100 for a month and usually use only about $50- $60, so I have some left over top go to the next month with.. but now I have used almost a months worth in a week...I know some of you with gas guzzlers who communte 120 miles one way to work will be overjoyed to have such problems! but for us on one retierement income, hard.

Glad I was not on the cruise that went BOOM! Cruise ships don't have a good record according to me, adn MOH wants desparately to go on one, I keep pointing out these types of problems! AND the cruise line has all but obsolved itself of any liabilty when you sign your ticket that expemts yhou form suing the. "The curise lines need to pay for the costs to the govenment based on the $26 billion they profit" the news says...Sad when you are safer on a plane than in a boat on the  water...

Well, we may go to the trian show in Scranton, but I doubt it. We don;t have moeny to spend adn MOH gets depressed not finding teh european trains in N scale MOH wnats to "remind me of the trains I rode in Germany". I say pish posh, get into the USA trains that we are riding now! whether old tourist line steamers or sleek AMtrak....

We are itching to get out to see/ride another steam tourist line..we alwyas do  time of year..it gets depressing. we can't plan this year as we don't know the money or work situation for MOH yet. Last year we plain couldn't afford it!

I do hope MOH get ssomething soon. so we can get back on feet. TOok out a new consolidation loan the DAY BEFORE MOH GOT FIRED. TALK ABOUT TIMING. I don;t want to go back to livinng on credit while MOH is unemployed as we did when MOH was underemployed. NOT good that is why we took the consolidation loan to get rid of that into perpeturity adn at higher rates. Teh CU came though for us, now we have to keep up.

MOH is in the sme age gorup/boat as ULRICH...BUT didn't have the high level job ULRICH had.Still doesn't make it easy on MOH. WE shall see. MOH need s something esaier to do anyway I think.

Well I have tiraded enough here...so Off to bed soon!

Have a good night!

Good morning.

Burlington Northern #24

hang tight gents as a giant space rock will miss us by 14 minutes literally.

There was somebody spreading a very bad rumor about it actually hitting us here in Towanda. I knew that one was to at least pass by very closely, but not hit us. I think they said that one might hit in 2035 or around there, and by that time, we WILL have the technology to divert the giant rock or slab of iron or rubble pile or whatever the heck kind of asteroid it is.

they'd better, we haven't made it as far as the dinos yet.

From a lifespan view point, you're right. As far as the evolutionary path is concerned, we have come leaps and bounds ahead of them. As far a diverting those rocks, all we need to do is get a space craft, which will probably be something like the Space Shuttle, and get it close enough to the asteroid to divert it using gravitational forces. It doesn't even need to be much bigger than a school bus. Everything with mass has a gravitational pull, so it is a really good idea for diversion.

Good evening.

By the end of the next pay period, I will have one big fat pay check. Lots of work over the last two weeks.

I worked on both the Lima 0-4-0t and the Tyco 2-8-0 today. The motors in both are pretty much shot. They run somewhat but definitely not well. The little Lima loco MIGHT be capable of pushing/pulling a couple of cars provided it could keep running. The pickups are in really sorry shape. The Tyco is a basket case plain and simple. The motor will run but it can't even pull it's own weight. I don't see these two as being anything more than shelf queens. The little Lima Plymouth switcher runs but it needs really clean track. It's a pancake drive and doesn't have any grind or squeal. It only required a light cleaning. I can use it to do the honors when I have pizza. The flanges are massive.

Converting the BN FP7 to DCC will likely be tomorrows project. I'm about tinkered out for today.

Coffee refill, please.

Watched all the videos of that meteor blast. Pretty spectacular sight and wicked sonic boom.

Got a lot done with the grapple today, clearing out a couple fallen trees and a ton of scrub. I also cut one of the trees up into fireplace length sections. It was off the ground, seasoned for two years (since the tornado snapped it down) and is now ready for splitting. Worker showed up late and put in just shy of 4 hours. Wish I could find someone who would work as hard as I used to. Bottom line is I still need the help. Oh well.

Think I may need tomorrow off to rest, then back at it Sunday.

Afternoon guys.

Just running some trains. I have this one loco and turnout that just don't get along sometimes. For some strange reason it will derail it, the part that annoys me is it wont derail every time just every now and then and I have no idea why,lol

The mail carrier has come and gone. I got my 9-oin harnesses for the DH123 decoders I've had here for ages. They can now be of some use. That gives me four Digitrax decoders now. Two DH123's and two DZ125's. Right now I'm looking at one of the recipients of one of the DH123's. A Burlington Northern Roco/Atlas FP7. The other DH123 will go into the Union Pacific Roco/Atlas FP7 after I repair it. Both units will be lubed while I have them opened up. While inspecting the UP unit I could see evidence on it that it was dropped at one time or other as it has a scuff mark on the edge of the top of the shell. It's hard to see even if you're looking for it. As the box is undamaged that means it wasn't in the box at the time or this is another box. That would account for the front truck being broken and some parts missing. I have a gray primered unit coming that I gave $20 for to use as a parts source for the UP unit and it'll provide more project parts. It should be here sometime between the 19th and 27th.

That should give Pinky and The Brain ample time to take over the world!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a pineapple upside down thingie and a cup of Marrakesh Express coffee this....  What?  You have to make a new pot of it...  One of the other diners drank it all?  OK, I'll wait...

Guess it was a bad night around the world...  An Extra Terrestrial object exploded over Russia, an Amtrack Train hit a car parked on the tracks in Macedon, NY, and the sun is behind a cloud here in the Finger Lakes.

I'm wondering how it will be the train's fault that someone drove their car up onto the tracks...  I guess the driver was "disoriented".  That's what they say.  Lucky someone in the car was sober smart enough to get everyone out of the car so they could watch the fireworks when it hit.  Did some major damage to the locomotive and the tracks are still closed at the moment.

Currently 36°F with mostly in the forecast for the next hour here.  If you don't like the weather in the finger Lakes, just wait a while.  The big yellow thing is supposed to come out before noon they say.

Ulrich, glad you were able to at least get some groceries to get through the weekend.  Hope both you and Petra are getting over your colds.

I got up and smelled the faint odor of gas again this morning...  Yep the burner on the furnace had again come loose.  Easy fix, but I will be calling a furnace place this morning to make an appointment to see what a new and much more efficient furnace (possibly with whole house air) will set me back.  I can only take out funds ion the old home backed loan until mid July, so I might as well put the furnace on it while I can.  I was hoping to wait and be able to pay cash for it, but........

Have a great and safe day out there!

Garry, some years back, the automobile industry was really down here as well. In order to save jobs, our government introduced a premium to boost sales of new, supposedly cleaner cars, resulting in hundreds of thousand of perfectly running old cars being sent the wrecker. The system paid more than just for itself. The premium was Euro 2,000 and the average VAT amount collected on each sale was Euro 2,800. It was a clever scheme, everybody was just happy - the government collected a nice amount of additional VAT, the industry sold plenty of new cars, the banks were happy, too, financing all these car sales. Only those too poor to buy a new car or get a bank loan for it, were the once kicked in the backside. No old and affordable cars on the market, and now, many years later - no used spare parts around. Take it from the poor, give it to the rich.

Vinnie, no need to get the soapbox out, I won´t go on from here.

No particular plans for today. Just whatever comes up I guess.

Good morning everyone. ....... Kona coffee and pineapple upside down cake please.

Hmmmmm ..... Earth is being stoned today. The asteroid will get close they say. I also saw the Russian videos on TV.

Oz James .... That sounds like a great job. I hope it is an enjoyable one for you.

Ulrich ...... I hope you can solve your transportation problem. It is troubling when the government makes choices for people such as what kind of car they should drive. We sometimes pay large amounts of money to repair government mandated stuff in the car. Mechanically, the cars are in good condition, but they won't run when the cars computer has is not working correctly.

I made a few signs this week using the computer.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and leave the pot please. Oh and could you make it Ray’s brand please. Needs to be just a bit stouter than my usual French Roast this morn.

Yes Ray, when a smell like that rotten turkey gets in the insulation of the freezer, or refrigerator, it’s nigh on impossible to get outIck!. Like that lovely cigarette…Hmm..aroma, when it gets in your cars insulation. Woo. Phew stinky.

Welp, got our donkeys handed to us in a basket last night at w**k.Dead I don’t think we’ve ever been that busy before. MAN! Told my buddy, the owner, if that happens again….he’ll be looking for someone to replace me. Two people (the normal during the week crew) in the kitchen was NOT enough especially knowing they were going to be extra busy. Even though it went off it, was ridiculous. Only reason it did happen was because his son came in on his own at 5 because he knew it would be busy, and his wife came in and ended up doing dishes to keep up. He kinda laughed sorta and said he was bustin his rear waiting tables too. I said ya, and you got paid a lot more, what between the tips and the profit from the sales I’d a been OK with it too. But for my $35 after taxes (the place is only open 4 hours so that’s all I w**k….usually) it ain’t worth it. He said you’l get more than that because you’ll be here probably til 10 or 10:30 tonight so that's an extra hour, hour and a half. I said Ooo, another 10 bucks. Forgot about that (sarcasm). I said, again, not to make it sound like I’m doin a big favor by working here, I'm not, but I can do that in 30 minutes from my home if I wanted to get back into the car biz. He already knows how I feel about the job, w**k any less and it’s not worth the trouble, any more than 3 nights and I might as well w**k somewhere else and make twice as much for same days. We’ve discussed this issue many times regarding the previous owner so he knows how I feel (and he agreed). Too little help only over whelms the help which causes issues with the orders and ultimately the customers. Not a good trade for the paltry savings to the company. Just because the shoe is now on your foot, doesn’t make me feel any different. There may be people willing to do that every night, but I’m not one of them.

Upon re-reading that, it sounds much harsher than we spoke and I meant it to sound here. It actually was more like a discussion than a ....female dog-ing. Wasn’t meant to be a rantLaugh, but that’s what it sure sounds like!Whistling Guess it’s “Rant Over”.Laugh

Gotta w**k this morning for some special order and then again this evening as normal. With a FULL CREW this time.

Prayers for those in Moscow hit by the meteor (meteorite?). I guess it hit a populated area. Just got a brief glance as they were reporting.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

J.R. - the car I have (can´t say drive anymore) is a French Renault, which is out of production for well over twelve years. Most of the cars were victims of a government subsidized wrecking action a few years back, making people buying new "cleaner" cars. Finding a used ECU is like searching for that needle in a haystack. My garage is looking for one, but should they be unable to locate a suitable unit by the end of this month, I will give up the car. I will get about $ 1,000 for it - spare parts for Africa!

Good Morning All,

34F and cloudy today. I'll just have a regular to go please ladies.  Haven't been in much and haven't touched the layout as we scramble to finish up 6 cars to send to Fla next week. This is the official start of the season with testing in West Palm Beach and Sebring followed by the first Sebring race weekend the end of the month.

Jim - Good on ya. Sounds like a nice stable situation for you.

Ulrich - good to see you up and around even if it is in foot. Aren't any ECU's available for your car used? It is often easier to get stuff from a wrecker than new and also half or less the new price.

Here's my to go and here I go. Catch Ya Later, J.R.

I think they said that one might hit in 2035 or around there, and by that time, we WILL have the technology to divert the giant rock or slab of iron or rubble pile or whatever the heck kind of asteroid it is.

Howdy folks,

Been a busy week for me! Blindfold

I've spent a couple of hours each day this week on stuff related to my new job. Monday I had the interview. Tuesday I went in to do some paperwork. Wednesday I had my medical (another story) Thursday, what I thought was the last of the paperwork done, told when I'd be starting. Get a phone call today asking if I could come in to sign my offer of employment letter, so they can make sure I start next Wednesday! I said yes every time they've called me as hopefully I'm showing I'm keen to work.

So, there you have it. I'm starting next Wednesday. My hours will be 9.30-6.00 PM, Monday to Friday. I'm happy with the hours as it means I'll miss the peak hour traffic every day, meaning my commute will be about 20 minutes each way, all on the freeway. My official title will be Leading Hand, Freight Handler. I will be taking care of a particular section of the operations on the floor, most of my work will be admin, however.

I've already done quite a few certifications this week, such as RACA which is the Restricted Air Cargo Area, since we deal with alot of international and domestic air freight you need to know how to identify signs of IED's etc. Next wednesday will be solely dedicated to inductions and accreditation, such as gaining authority to operate forklift trucks on site ( I already hold a licence but due to it being governed by Federal and international aviation laws I need to be accredited.)

Uniform is supplied, 5 shirts, pants, hat, socks the lot! The company is basically the Aussie version of UPS.

I'm looking forward to it.

Please return to regular programming.

Good Morning!

Today was my first attempt to get up and buy some food. Took me more than 30 minutes to walk that mile to the grocery store, back even longer. I am done in, but at least we have enough food to take us over the weekend!

We are having snow again - wish it were Spring. Both Petra and I could use some sunshine into our hearts!

Ken - did I miss something? Are we enemies now? Whistling

Jeff - like that tank car!

Well, that´s all for now - have a good one!
