I haven't had anything to eat today. My guts are still twisted in knots from spending most of last night and this morning on the throne. Darn meds and their side effects! Seems like the side effects are worse than the conditions the meds are supposed to help correct.

I keep a supply of anti-throne-running  medication on hand {Imodium} ,as well as a supply of generic Benadryl {anti-allergy medication}, and a supply of laxative on hand {Magnesia stuff in a bottle} so IF any of these "complications" happen we have something to deal with it immediately.

Since MOH took the OTC med ALEVE and had a severe ALLERGIC reaction to it requiring an Ambulance and a trip to the hospital to get more higher dose of Benadryl and steroids via IV recently, MOH now sees WHY I keep the Benadryl on hand! In an emergency it is good to get it started quickly jsut in case. I spent 6.5 minutes legally dead due to a anaphalactuic shock reaction to Sulfa antibiotic. . SO I can say " I am deathly allergic to Sulfa"!!.

Now, having the back problems, MOH has complained too much of Muscle relaxer has caused constipation, so won't try laxative, but {may later} try the enema bag to dislodge stuff, I said its because you took too many Flexeril's. Not a bad thing to take them, but I experience same with that muscle relaxer too, so I take a differing muscle relaxer med.

Geeked

The Complication I DON'T like, is the damage certain meds do to and that they take the toll on teeth!!!  I have lost my beautiful teeth in favor of partials and holes due to the meds. and there is not a thing I can do really, I can't get the teeth back.

Still FUMING OVER THe pHone company RIppIng me off!!!

I get a "lifeline" discount on the phone bill {land line} to ensure I have an emergency connection for medical help if needed at a discount of about $20 off the bill so my bill is about $30 regularly.

Glad I don't need that 'Lifeline'. A phone company told me I would have to get a land line installed here. That's something I've never had in this trailer. I have my Magicjack on the computer ($30 a year) and I have my Tag Mobile cell phone (Free). I only use the cell phone for emergencies and I've only used it twice  so far this year.

I COULD have a free cell phone, but then we'd have to give up the land line discount, and with the power outages we experience here, the cell phones go dead for a while too, and we are about the only ones on the block to actually have phone service via land line. MOH won't give up land line, and it is less than $30 a month. Of course, the cordless phones don;t work, but we have a  hardwired phone fort he land line that works without power.. We also have a computer-based phone, but again, ti doesn't work with the power outages we experience here!

So we COULD pay the $50 for land line and I get 1 cell phone free with lifeline, but we still have to pay for the other cell phone anyway.s o its a wash as to what to do. My cell phone only costs $8  a month.

So we Will stick with what we have.

Good evening. Just thinking about what I should get at the train show in Scranton that is coming up in a few weeks. I know I want a #2055 Hudson with a 6026W tender. I am considering a 6464-500 boxcar and a 3459 dump car.

Getting late. Will head up soon. Night.

Well I'm having a little more trouble than usual with my balance. Just means I have to be very careful when walking. I feel much better than I did last night at this time. Maybe tonight I'll be able to get some sleep.

I didn't get anything done on the layout today as I was taking it easy and trying to keep things from getting any worse than they were this morning.

It's time to call it a night so I'll see y'all tomorrow. No rain tonight. How about that?

Good evening.

We're still in Nashville. Long day. Shelley's Mom is in hospital here. Doctors corrected problems with blockages in heart arteries including an 80% block of the LAD artery. She should recover okay.

Thanks to those who commented on this situation.

Have a good one.

Hi everybody:

I haven't been to the diner in quite a while - sorry, no time.

My dad passed away early Tuesday morning. Where did I go tonight to relieve the stress? Why to the MR forums of course.

Thanks to you all for being such a great group of people. No need for condolences - I will justifiably assume the best.

Night guys. Oh wait, it's morning...

The train club had a work night. I brought my truck tuner (I'm the only one who uses it AFAIK), an electronic scale, and a pile of weights. I wound up only tuning 2 cars. I wound up cleaning track, then replacing 2 switch motors. 1 had a wiring issue that no one else saw, and it was puzzling them for a few hours. I looked at the wiring and saw it right away. 2 wires twisted together...

I never did get to do anything with my train projects. It rained all day and i had no energy till about 3ish...

Dave, sorry to hear about your dad.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

ALOHA!

We continue our tour on the Island of Lāna‘i, with the Maunalei Sugar Company railroad remants of yesteryear:

In 1899, the Maunalei Sugar Company embarked upon a major development on Lāna‘i. Founded by Fredrick Hayselden and his wife, Talula Gibson Hayselden (daughter of Walter Murray Gibson who in 1862 began to acquire large tracts of land on Lāna‘i). The plantation venture included construction of a sugar mill, a plantation town, water works, a wharf, and a railroad system, and at its peak employed more than 600 people, most of whom were Japanese contract laborers. While significant work was done, the plantation operation went bank-rupt in just three years, closing in 1901.

In 1899, the plantation manager was quoted as saying, "At the landing a very substantial wharf has been built, and a railroad to the camp two miles distant is in operation with a rolling stock of a locomotive and nineteen cars…" (Evening Bulletin. October 13, 1899, page 1)

The locomotive itself had been built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, in 1882, and originally used on Maui at the Claus Spreckels Plantation. Named, "Waiahole," this 24’ the narrow gauge was brought to Lāna‘i in 1899. By the time the plantation was closed, the rail had been extended to around 6 miles in length, and was used to haul materials and supplies to the Maunalei Sugar Company Mill and areas between the Keomoku Village/Mill site and the Kahalepalaoa Wharf. At the end of the plantation's operation, the train hauled several loads of sugar cane as well, which were processed at the Olowalu Mill on Maui.

The locomotive was laid to rest here in 1901, on a spur offshoot from the main tracks, which in this area generally followed the old Government Road align-ment. The wheel bases of four sugar haul cars remain near the old wharf warehouse site on the shore of Kahalepalaoa.

Regarding bankruptcy of the Maunalei Sugar Compa-ny, elder Hawaiian residents of the windward coast of Lāna‘i pointed to construction of the railroad itself as being the cause. They observed that when the railroad track was made, the alignment crossed and destroyed the lower section of the heiau (temple) at Kahe‘a. This ancient site, was one of the most powerful temples on the island, and damage to its features led to the misfortune of the plantation.

The Agape Foundation Charitable Trust and Office of Hawaiian Affairs provided major funding for clearing of this historic site. Support from community members, state-wide partners, and Castle & Cooke Resorts, LLC which granted a right of entry agreement to the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center made this work possible.

IF you visit: PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF THE HISTORY AND LEGACY OF THIS PLACE – STAY ON THE MARKED TRAIL AND DO NO HARM. This locomotive and other sites accessed via nearby trails, are private property, with access granted by Castle & Cooker Resorts, LLC. Help us care for and respect the history of Lāna‘i, the heritage of its people, and the private property rights of the land owner.

Aloha and Mahalo nui  {hello, welcome and thank you} to everyone who has helped restore this unique facet of Lāna‘i’s history. To learn more about Lāna‘i’s history visit the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center at the old Dole Administration Building, or visit our website at www.lanaichc.org. The Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center.  Honoring the past, Enriching the future.

The "Waiahole" (1882) was a Baldwin Locomotive Works  0-4-2T, saddle or side tank locomotive used for working the plantation.

Mahalo Nui loa {thank you very much} for reading about Hawaii's Railroading history!

I gave up on the intermountain NP FP7's and gave into to the Kato NW2 guess the roadname Stick out tongue I also picked up a steelers superbowl car I will give it to my dad as one his Birthday presents from me.

Good Morning all,

Dave, sorry for your loss.  You know we are going to say something….

Garry I hope they get things fixed for her quickly.

So I get a letter in the mail telling me I will receive a letter in the mail to have my water meter upgraded to a wireless transmitter meter.  I get a letter in the mail to call and make an appointment to have my meter changed.  So I called and they guy tells me he is there to take my information, this call was to make an appointment to have an appointment maker set up and appointment with me to call back and make an appointment with me.  So now I’m waiting to have the meter company call me back to make an appointment to have my meter changed.  I desperately checked the flyer to see if the

Office of Redundancy Office was running the program or if Alan Funt was going to jump out of my closet and yell SURPRISE!

Good Morning!!!

Yeeeesh!! Who's whackjob idea was it to change the policy for posting????

Coffee and two eggs scrambled loose, hashbrowns, and a couple strips of bacon in a pile and cover it with sausage gravy please. Thank you.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 48.

G- I can’t stand the phone company. I would get rid of the land line but I just can’t seem to do it. Old habits I guess. It costs me more to have a phone in the house that cannot leave the building and costs for a long distance call, than it does for me to have a phone I can carry anywhere, call long distance with no additional charge AND I can get on the internet wherever. With a WiFi for nothing and without WiFi, not very much as I have just now after almost a year, used up one months worth of data minutes. Why? Compatition.I can change cell phone carriers, but if I want a land line…..Frontier. Oh there are other ones out there, but none really offer more than a cell phone. Ok…, so price.

Dave- I am sorry to hear about your Father. Prayers for you and your family.

Welp, like I said yesterday, today I must go get a card for Brenda. Valentines Day. Have yet to figure out why we celebrate that massacre thing but, hey, anything to sell a card I suppose. Gotta figure what’s fer supper and probably, since the Walmart is right ther with the Chinese buffet, or rather vice versa, I may dine with one Suki and take a nap before hitting the trainroom. Or maybe I’ll do that prior to leaving. Or maybe…..

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good Afternoon!

Petra and I would like to say thank for all the wishes on the occasion of he 25th birthday - give or take a few years...

The years 2013 has not been very kind to us so far. Saturday, our car broke down and there is only little hope for getting it fixed again. The motor management system just quit and a new one is not to be had. So we are without a car. Adding to this, both of us are down with a bad case of flu, so no birthday celebration today. Good news is, however, that my parents´ conditions have stabilized, but we now know, that my father will definitively not return into their house. He will be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his days. My Mom´s mental disorder is progressing rapidly. She has lost any contact to reality most of the time. Her physical condition is improved, though. She is still kept at the hospital until I have found a place for both to stay. I won´t be able to go up north to help them before Tuesday next week. Still no help from my brother...

Dave - sorry to hear about your dad´s passing.

Good morning. It's 45° with 90% humidity. It's cloudy this morning but will be clearing later. The high will be 58°. Somebody up north left the door again.

Well I had a descent nights sleep and I feel much better than I did yesterday. Today I may get a chance to change out the decoders on a couple of locos. They have Bachmann decoders and I'd like to upgrade them Digitrax. Now the question is do I use my two DZ125's I just got or do I wait a bit longer for some DHWH harnesses I have coming and use a couple of DH123's I've had laying around for quite a while? Decisions, decisions.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and a few cups of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please.  Be sure to check with me on the refills.  Thanks!

Dave, sorry to hear about your Dad.  This is a good place to shake off sorrow for a while...

Ulrich, glad to hear your father has at least stabilized.  Sounds like the decisions have been made and you don't have to be the blame...  Yes, borrowing your parents car might be a temporary solution so you could at least get to see them.  Oh, and a belated Happy Birthday to Petra!

Guess we have to careful what we say today.... Seems to be Mods all over the place.

Today is supposed to be partly around the Finger Lakes.  Every once and a while I look outside the window and see some patches of blue.  None of them appear to be where they will let any sunshine come down here though.

I best get going as I have several projects that must get done today (like the laundry...).  Of course I might get a few minutes to do some odds and ends with the layout while the washer runs.

Later!
