Terry, I take it those are the newer run Bachmann Spectrums with the see-through DB section? Doesn't seem like a bad deal too me either.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me...

Galaxy, hope your wife feels better in the morning.  Also hope your medical stuff goes well tomorrow.

Ken, sounds like you had a bad night and have been paying for it all day.  Get some sleep!

I got a good workout today and finally got the panels cleared by about 3PM this afternoon.  So they gave me about 2 hours of decent power....  Better than nothing.  Tonight we will get some freezing drizzle, cloudiness, all followed by rain tomorrow morning.  Currently 34°F outside and the low overnight will be 32°F.  Lots of rain tomorrow will mean I will have to keep a close watch on the seepage into the basement and the sump for the next couple of days.

Blackie didn't have a good day today and could barely walk tonight when I brought him out to get his supper.  Yesterday he was waking fairly good...  seems to come and go.  Poor little guy.  He still wants to play as long as he can play and just lay on the couch.

Got to spend a whole hour down in the train room this evening,  I turned the heat on down there at 1PM in expectation I would have some quality time with the projects I am supposed to be doing.  Just didn't make it down there until 8PM.  Then I spent 45 minutes trying to find the bucket of wallboard mud I needed for the next step with the scenery.  Finally I found it right where I put it 3 months ago when I used it last. Got the area where I needed it done and cleaned up some more dusty cars.  Turned out the light and heat and came back upstairs.

Don't think Jeffrey has been in since this morning...  Hope he made out well with the line of storms down there.  I know there was a tornado in Mississippi today.

Time to head out to bed I guess.  Prayers for all in need!

Well the weather was pretty ugly yesterday, and not just one part of the day. All day. At times the rain was so heavy I could hardly hear myself think over the noise of the rain coming down on the roof. There's more coming today. I lost track of how many times the power went out yesterday. My internet service was down at least half the day and then it went down last night. Now here's the funny thing, my satellite TV service was up most of the day except of course during the heaviest parts of the storms. It was down maybe a total of twenty-five minutes all day while the cable was out close to seven hours all told. Over the entire day the power was out maybe a total of eight minutes. The power outages were just quick flickers, just long enough to make everything shut down. This occurred throughout the day. So naturally I didn't get much done as there was the constant threat of the power going off and staying off for a while. I hate days like that. According to the weather guesser the chance of rain today is 60%, significantly less than what we got yesterday.

I had typed this post for my sign off last night but the cable went down again and  this time was out until past midnight. See y'all later today.

Hi all,

Been a busy few days.

I got a call from a friend today, Asking if I could come into his work about a job opportunity that was there. Luckily I happened to be pretty close by and although I was dressed pretty casually in Jeans and a button up shirt I didn't have time to get home and change so I went in as quick as I could.

Got told a bit about the job and was asked a few basic questions and then was offered the job! so Pending a medical (which I should have no problems with) I have a job starting ASAP.

The role is as a supervisor for Star Track Express, overseeing a particular section of the operations. I'm pretty happy with the offer as it's a step or two above my previous role so will be nice and challenging! The pay is good too. Around $23 an hour + a supervisor allowance of a couple of dollars (not exactly sure how much extra) and also a company phone. The best bit?

It's at Brisbane Airport so it's only 15 minutes from home!! No more hour long commutes.

Medical is wednesday so I guess I'll start next week.

Good Morning!!!

Some of that Kona coffee stuff please and……ya know, I think I’ll be brave and try the pineapple and egg casserole please…..no…..yes…. Yes, bring it before I change my mind. Thanks.

Okee dokee…..left click Jeffrey’s trailer picture…good. Right click.., save picture aaaassss… save to Desktop….save….cool. Now I can zoom inYes.

Don’t know what the weather will be today, I just know now it’s pretty cotton pickin windy.

Paul- glad you’re feeling better.

Ooops, sorry Rob. I knew thatEmbarrassed. You talked of it and it reminded me of my sinus issues. Crossing my fingers for you too.

Luckily I rarely get sick, just sinuses (some say that’s an infection therefore an illness…I won’t argue) haven’t been really ill since I can’t remember. Early ninties? Late Eighties. I know I havent been sick since I've been married at least. Before that even hardly at all. Mom always credited the way she took care of me when I was young. You know, no wet head outside, oatmeal….corduroy (shakes head). Now you watch, I’ll be sick by the end of the week.

Galaxy- Hope YOH’s back feels better.

OZJim- Great news!!! Congrtulations.

I spent a good amount of time in the trainroom yesterday w**king on the bridge thing. Yup. Shore did. Also watched Ziva as well. Yup again. Ziva and model railroading…..Match made in heaven. Kinda like warm and donuts. I found my drywall mud a lot faster than Ray found his, but mine was however…..molded. Guess I gotta get rid of it. Dug down towards the bottom to get the little I needed for to raise the “ground” a bit for the supports. Didn't need a lot. Like Dippity Doo...just a little dab-L-do ya.  After the Church bookwork and an errand uptown, but hopefully not into Springfield, I’ll get a chance to spend some more time in there today. Felt pretty good.

Thanks for the well wishes on the smoking. Won’t be the first time I tried….isn’t the first time you’ve wished me well on it either but I really appreciate it all the same. Actually you’d think it’d be easy since I can’t stand smoking, never have. Hate the smell, never tasted good even after eating or in the morning or whenever people say they taste good. And the hassle of one is annoying. Plus, I can’t stand to think something is control of me. Only two things should control me. A wife to control me by choice, not fully understanding at the time the full extent to which she would control me of course, and my digestive system by design. I should like to be in control of most everything else.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good Morning all,

Congratulations OzJim sounds like a win – win situation to me.

Curt, that mine looks pretty good.

Ray, I hate going to the DDS, I don’t know why but I would rather have my thumbs sewn back on than get a filling taken care of.  I do go 2x a year for a cleaning but I dread anything else needing done.

Rob your locomotives should be at 1 amp each (stall rating).  If your hooking more than one together I don’t think I would let more than 2 locomotives share a decoder.

No snow and no rain Saturday or Sunday, I guess it missed us or lost my Zip code.

OZ James .... Congrats. Ounds liek an interesting job. Tell more about it if you want.

Galaxy ....... Sounds like Mrs. Galaxy may have a serious injury. She must have medical attention ASAP.

Todd .... We''ll be glad to encourage you to quit smoking. I have friends who have quit smoking, they are glad they did, and they are very healthy. I have also known poeople who did not quit smoking, and they are now dead. It is not just that smoking kills you, it is how they kill you. You definately do not wish to suffer a painful lung disease leading to a terrible death. .... We're your friends here. We believe you will quit once and for all this time. Please don't disappoint us. Thanks.

Morning guys

Well the Dawn soap and water didn't do anything to the SD40-2s gears. I tried scrubbing it off with an old tooth brush, but it just left a black gunk that stuck to things and got everywhere. I thought it could be powdered graphite, so I googled up how to remove that. Turns out my old standby on removing gunk out of trucks is supposed to be very effective at it. So I grabbed a can of WD40 out of the garage and sprayed everything off (including the old tootbrush), then scrubbed it. They came out nice and clean, and the trucks are extremely free-rolling when the worm is removed. So all I should have left to do is re-assemble the thing and wait for the handrails to get here. I examined the circuit board some more and there is a place to attach an extra light function, so I'll use that for a beacon with a decoder that has extra function outputs.

I don't know why, but I'm beginning to like this loco. I think I'll hold on to it, and may even install my old soundtraxx decoder in it.

I'm thinking of going back to school for either IT or mechanical engineering. I can't find anyting for mechanical design, technical illustration, or drafting. I'm not having much luck at finding another job to supplant my fast-food job either.

Todd, definately quit smoking. When I was a teenager I vowed to never smoke after seeing what my grandfather has and is still going through. He's had 3 strokes and 2 heart attacks due to smoking, and he is slowly losing his vision. His heavy drinking probably doesn't help either, and it may be why I've never drank before. Somehow, he is still alive...

James, sounds like you lucked out.

Ken, Never heard of that happening, but if the bearings truely are bad then I'll call Athearn about getting another motor. They've been pretty good to me about these kinds of things. I've had to send in an RS3 (binded so bad that it was impossible to turn one way) and an F7 motor (cracked bell housing) before and they replaced them when I sent in the motor. I don't think the blue-box drive couplings will fit in the RTR frame, otherwise I could use the guts from one of my project SD40-2s (old BBs being modfied into BN) and run it for a while.

Jeff, do you know how to tell if a motor bearing is actually bad?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Well

I got my spinal nerve pain injections done. Will be in agony from the trauma of it for a few days, but no rest for the weary,.

MOh is moving MUCH better today. Had to crawl on hands and knees to bed last night and out to LR this AM, but can now walk to toilet and back to bed,so MUCH better today. Refused to go to the hospital afraid they'd just say "muscle spasms and bed rest".

Got my father to take me to the injection apts as can;'t drive afterward.

So now bed rest for me too.

C ya's later!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll that pineapple stuff somebody, ah, Todd I think, is having and I'll even try a cup of the Kona coffee.  Does it come in a dake roast...  It does?  Good, that's what I'll have.

Oooo , the big bright thing outside just came out from behind a cloud!  Yes!  May get a couple hours or so of good sunlight today.

Galaxy, hope your better half is feeling better today and your treatment helps you to be more comfortable as well.

Rob, hope the cough quieted down last night.  Hate to lie awake and just cough all night.  I get a touch of asthma from time to time (allergy related) and have that happen once or twice a year.

Todd, we all hope you will be successful quitting.  My barber finally quit!  Only took about 3 heart attacks, the last one would have been fatal except a client walked in his shop just as he hit the floor.  Several stents later, including a couple in his leg arteries so he could continue to stand and walk short distances he is back at work.  The one he got in his heart artery, the doc looked at him as he blew up the balloon and said just as the pain hit him, "Now are you going to quit?!?  He finally has,  decided he wants to see his grandkids grow up!  We like you around here and don't want to lose you!  So quit!

Blackie was not in good shape when I got up this morning.  He threw up several time yesterday, was off his food, but was alert and wanted to play.  This morning he had the dry heaves and was just leaving wet stops on my carpet.  He won't touch the pill pockets.  i prepared for the worst and called the vet.  His regular vet is back working and so after a short wait she picked up the p[hone, and said, "What's going on with Blackie?"  I started to tell her and she said, she was looking at his chart...  Her take is he is not tolerating the high dose of the med he is on and to not dose him at all today, and tomorrow cut the dose in half.  She said some cats can tolerate and are fine on the smaller dose.  We will take it one day at a time.  he has been moving around this morning.

It is currently 38°F here in the Finger lakes and the high this afternoon will be in the low 40's.  Remember all the sn*w we got a couple days ago...?  Most will be gone by nightfall tonight.  Right now I can look around the neighborhood and see which houses need better insulation in the attics..... Whistling

Later!

 Morning Dinners

 Flo, Diet Dew Pleases.

Slept better last night, it would have been hard to have slept worse.

BoS One of the reason's I did not sleep well the other night was because of Bank Of Stupid! When I got home Saturday there was a door hanger on the front door from them. Well, this could not be good! I had been trying to call my BoS Rep for the past two weeks but all I get is her voices mail? Never a return phone call either. Her voices mail all so has a out of date message saying she would be back in on 1-29-2013?

I just called the phone number on the door hanger I got, went to her voices mail again. This time I push the star button to talk with another person. Seems all they want where copies of my last 2 bank statements? Now for the rant!

SoapBox Last time I spoke with my BoS rep, she said they had all the paperwork they need to move forward! Bang Head What can I say, there is a reason I called them Bank Of Stupid!

Vince Good luck on the SD40-2, glad you are starting to like it. I would dump the PC board that came on the engine! Or solder the lights wires to there contact point, light would not stay working.

Far as the motor, I am 95% sure Jeffery said the motor bearing's where shoot when I asked about them a few years ago. You can uses BB motors in the RTR junk, but you need change the flywheels.

 See you all later

Been working on those Thrall Gons again. Even after a week of drying, the white still comes off on half the cars when masking it. I re-sprayed the white on the cars it came off on, just a mist and I'll keep misting it till it's white. Hopefully it'll stick, if not I'll primer the area and then try the white. I still need to touch-up the painted areas on the cars that are finished, but I'd like to do them all at once.  Kind of annoyed about the 50% failure rate so I haven't touched the trains since.

I was cleaning my car earlier and found a quarter-sized area on the driver's seat where the fabric is tearing. I called my father and said I'd like to sew it up with my mom's sewing kit. Father said to put a shirt over it to prevent it from getting bigger, and have that portion of the seat redone with similar material later. He said this always happens to bucket seats... Who is right in this one?

Ken, Guess I could call athearn then. I don't have a flywheel puller, but it'd be nice if I did because I found a third BB SD40-2 motor (I have 2 powered units and a dummy for my BB SD40-2s).

Veggie/fruit Smoothie, please.

Back from the dentist. There goes my Beyer Garratt fantasy. $1,100 out of pocket. Ouch! Opted for a crown, so at least I'll still have enough teeth left to chew food on both sides. Thought I had some Mortin around here, but evidently I don't. Guess if it starts bothering me when the numbness wears off I can always head back into town for some.

***Garry, I've had this latest round of coughing for at least 4 months I think, very bad at times. I did see a doc recently who found nothing so far as bronchitis or other such issues, so I figure it is just the battle going on with the sarcoidosis. The key for me is to limit the damage to the lungs while the innate immune response becomes more active over time. To involved to go into here, but I continue to do what offers the best chance for long term positive results. Not an easy road to take.

Going to just rest today. You all have a good one!

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Good afternoon. It's 50° here with 100% humidity. It's cloudy with a 70% chance of rain. The high will be 58°.

We had another big storm slam through around 3:00 - 3:30 am. Lots of lightning and thunder and lots of rain. Since the several others have come through and I can see more on the way on the radar map.

Cable internet service has been down more than up today. I don't know why I keep paying for it. I'm definitely not getting my moneys worth. I've been at my fathers place most all day so far. We had breakfast in New Llano at the Waffle Shoppe and now he's working on lunch. So far I've seen cabbage, bacon, onions and peppers. I peeled the onions and cooked the bacon while he cut up the cabbage and peppers. Then he started on cutting up the onions when I was getting on this old computer I have here.

There's another storm coming so I have to get out of here.

Hi, guys. Windy and 22f.

Short day today as we got last lift of mud on walls and ceiling, spray texture walls tommorrow and ceilings on Wednesday.

Yes, Vincent ,they are the newer run. I've gotta put the screens back in yet. Still need to swap out the accuezmatejunk couplers for KD's, too. And thanks, Garry!

That's all for now!

Yup that's the way with DDS's. I't never ceases to amaze me how they can work on a tooth in your mouth and reach down through your throat into your wallet. Between MOH and myself, we spent close to $6K on our teeth just for a few fillings, two cleanings each and some xrays. MOH isn't done either. She has to have a root canal done to the tune of $847.00 for one tooth plus the crown plus they want to put in a new bridge to which she is saying NOT A Chance. I was supposed to get an upper and lower partial but said FORGET IT.

The DDS actually look offended when I told him that.

Those DDS folks make my blood boil. Super Angry

OK, put the soapbox away.... End of Rant

Afternoon guys

Murphy must be monitering me today. Not even 10 minutes after I put those thrall gons outside to try to re-paint the white (and the others black), it rains. And not just any rain, a freaking monsoon.

Anyways, I got my diploma in the mail today. I ran some errands as well. I ran to work to get my check, and wound up gaining a day to work. My check was higher than usual, so I have money to spend for once. Then I went to the eye glass place to see if my frames are still under warranty as the coating/plating/paint/etc. is coming off. Then to CVS to drop my prescriptions off.

Terry, they are pretty nice locos. I wonder how the shell compares to the P2K one?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Cederstrand

Veggie/fruit Smoothie, please.

Back from the dentist. There goes my Beyer Garratt fantasy. $1,100 out of pocket. Ouch! Opted for a crown, so at least I'll still have enough teeth left to chew food on both sides. Thought I had some Mortin around here, but evidently I don't. Guess if it starts bothering me when the numbness wears off I can always head back into town for some.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Rob ..... Instead of a Beyer Garrett, you an get Beyer Aspirin. .... Hope the sarcoidosis does not get worse.

Everybody .....  Shelley's Mom who lives in Nashville, TN just entered the hospital (ER) with heart problems. She has on-going heart disease and is in her upper 80's. Sounds like a serious situation now. We are now packing overnight bags to go to Nashville for maybe a couple of days. Don't know if I will have computer time.

bye ..........

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, lots of beer pleases!

Spent the afternoon with the wife, reason for multiple Beer. She is a sweet and loving person, and all so the Queen of repeating her self, over and over again! Drives my daughter and I nuts!

Vince How are you getting replacement motors from Athearn? They don't offer a life time warranty like Bachmann do they? Pretty sure there warranty is only a year at the most? I have a SD 50 and a Dash 9 RTR Athearn that needs motors I cannot afford. SD 50 has been a problem child from day 1! Dash 9 on the other hand ran for years pulling a ton of freight.

Train Front Yesterday I found that my Erie Built B unit was picking up power from only 1 wheel set? Today I opened the trucks (bit of a pain but not as bad as E-6's) and sprayed down the side frames with CRC, re-lubed and I think all is good again.

Speaking of PK 1000 Erie Built, does anyone have a link where I can get a coupler setup? I need one for the A unit front coupler.

Infected Toe Front It all most looks normal again! Big Smile Well that is a bit of a stretch, if most of you toe look like mine you be heading to the ER. Whistling Wound depth is up to the bottom of the top layer of skin. Skin layer is starting to cover the open wound! Hole is now around 4/16th wide and 6/16th long!

 See you all later.

chochowillie

I was supposed to get an upper and lower partial but said FORGET IT.

Dennis

Dennis: I know dentist is not cheap and I DO have insurance to cover mine, BUT you HAVE TO EAT.
So if you need partials, get at least one. I wear an upper, but will soon probably need a lower one as well.

Put all other expenses that are "negotiable" asside and get your teeth!
Used to be my type of insurance only covered: 1 annual cleaning and fillings and pullings, that was it. now they cover more, and my Dentist has seen to it that I get what I need.

Check  around your area for a DENTAL CLINIC... we go to one as MOH doesn't have insurance, but gets a 60% DISCOUNT on all services rendered. You maybe cna go that route to get your teeth done. Now, mind you, this is not a ""fly by night  clinic' but rather a clinic within General Hospital. It is there year round, not just for "a day here, a day there"  that they often run.
So chec around. Call your Catholic Charities or "first call for help" social services phone line to get info on the clinics that might operate in your area.

ALOHA! Well, it is 79F  or 26C in mid-island Oahu, Hawaii under cloudy skies {oh my!} at about 3:30 pm there...a rather nice day, even if Cloudy. Wish I was there, though I will take our 37F. .
More Hawaii rail road Info coming soon! Obviously, as I have pinted out, there was {and still remains touristy} railroads in the Islands of Hawaii. mostly for sugar cane workhorses, but so be it. Unfortuantely, the sugar production in Hawaii has basically dried up, so less need for those trains now.

A the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, PA. is a cute little loco saved form THe Hawaii sugar cane fields. It is the RR28, 1999 Waimanola Sugar Co. Olomoana, No. 2, a 0-4-2T built by Baldwin in 1883. {They do not have a pic of it at their site, and though I took one at the museum. a lot of it is in the {warm} dark and so my pic did not come out good at all.}

Well, rest easy gentlemen, for tomorrow is another day!

Dang pygmy goats escaped and attacked my new front yard orchard today while I was down at the barn.Bang Head Will be posting FOR SALE signs this week at all the feed stores and selling then cheap. Re-painted the rimmed trunks and can only pray these little trees survive. Where the cpyotes when I need them?

Tooth aches tonight. Did take two Advil earlier, but need to stay away from immuno-suppressives, so won't take anymore. Tomorrow should be much better.
