Yeah it sucks, I'm glad it didn't happen when I just got a new game. The only game im looking forward to doesn't come out for two months so maybe around then I will think about getting another one. It was working fine yesterday too.
Afternoon folks!
Chloe, just a cup of hot chocolate for me for right now... Yes put it on Curt's Tab if you would... (Just like that Alex.)
Spent most of the day helping with the move of the tables, chairs, desks, display shelves, boxes, and much other stuff going out to camp for storage and/or use from the old Scout Office here in Geneva. Loading at the office went quicker than the unloading out at camp. When I got home brought in a box of toner to go to recycling, fed the cats, then went back outside and got 3 more solar panels cleared of snow. 12 panels are now clear and 6 more still with over a foot of sn*w on them.
The weather people are calling for the sun to magically appear out of nowhere and shine for almost an hour at the end of the day. I'm hoping it can kick the system up and start melting the white stuff on the other 6 panels for a few minutes. I tried to hook the stuff off, but it is firmly frozen to the glass at the moment. All the panels I got at least some area of no snow have finished cleaning themselves.
Barry, yep! CA was used on the ends of the wires only where they poke down through the tower. Inside I bent the wires over at a right angle so they would stay in place. By the time I was almost through, I got the technique down so there was very little space showing between the tower staves and the wire. I finally said the 3' rule will have to apply and put the roof on.
Curt, Thanks! You noticed I went easy on your CC I hope!
Catch you all later!

JeremyB Hey guys, WORLD JUNIOR HOCKEY SPOILER AHEAD........ You ever have one of those days where nothing goes right at all!!! I woke up this morning to watch the world junior hockey tournament only to see Canada lose in the bronze medal game. I then proceeded to burn myself on hot water making hot chocolate for the wife. And now the worst part. I decided that I would just lay down on the couch and play some video games today on the PS3 seeing as its -15c outside at the moment. Well I turn it on lay back down and all of a sudden the thing shuts off and starts blinking a yellow light. Anybody here that has a ps3 or is into video gaming knows that's basically a sign saying " Your PS3 is now a expensive paper weight", its a hardware failure and either you can try to fix it yourself or send it away to get fixed by sony for a cool $150,lol. Seeing as buying a new one is only $250 I know which way I will be going when I decide I want a new one ( when I get a extra 250,lol ) The worst part is I have a game in it now that will require me taking it apart to get to the blu ray player to retrieve the game, why didn't sony have some sort of way to get a disc out of the thing if it crapped out? I guess at the end of the day though I had it since 2006 and played the hell out of it so it doesn't really owe me anything I'm just more mad that my game got stuck in it :P. There easy to take apart, not as easy as a PC but still pretty straightforward. Now I don't know if I should head down to the layout or work on some freight cars. Maybe I should just quit while Im ahead. Rant over, lol Jeremy

TMarshWell, last night about 7-ish she got a call someone drove through the elevator with what had to be a tall box truck or semi van, and knocked the outside spout off one of the bins. Luckily the bin was not full, but it was above the draw so there was about 2500+ bushels of corn on the ground. When they called her they said someone hit a bin and corn’s all over the ground. That’s pretty exciting I suppose. She got there and found it wasn’t as bad as it sounded. Not good, buy she pictured a hole in the bottom and it split.

Good Morning!!!
Oh my....what's that noise? Oh Jeff's sleeping. What happened? Lose track of time last night? Happens.
Just coffee please. It’s sn*wing. Thanks.
Alex- Best way to describe this place is a break room in a Model Railroad club. Spend time around people and some tend to develop friendships and the conversations tend to drift to non MRR subjects. This place keeps the idle chit chat out of the other threads so they can stay on topic without an annoying off topic diversion. As you can see however, there is still quite a bit of MRR topics discussed. It is just allowed for us to throw in some comments on the lawn and other things. Just like a break room. Like Galaxy said, we still go by the rules of the forum, it’s just that the good folks at Kalmbach recognize that MRRing builds friendships as a part of it, and as part of the hobby, they allow them (us) to enjoy that in a specific thread as long as we still respect their rules and each other. No fights, no flames, no problems. We pretty much have an unspoken rule here, your railroad, your money, your world. We offer suggestions and assistance to all, but we still respect each others direction they choose to take in the hobby. I may not want to do it how someone else chooses to approach it, they may not choose to do it the way I do but we all appreciate any way they do it and we enjoy seeing everyones work. “Work” in that tense is not bad by the way. “w*rk as in a j-o-b or actual labor, is. You will also see offerings of how someone thinks the model can be improved in their opinion. That is how it is given and that is how it is taken. There is no criticism or slams cleverly disguised or defended by a strict definition of a word in here. Any trolling or comments by folks who don’t feel that way are met with a cold shoulder and are ignored. Hard to have a one sided arguement unless you're a wife. Those guest of the diner, and we are all guests here, who don't agree with that way of behaving usually don’t stick around very long as this just isn’t their cup of coffee.
Stopped sn*wing.
FORTUNE COOKIES ARE TRUE! I knew it! Well, if you get a fortune and not a “don’t spend your money and you’ll have more” one. Before you know it someone will find a Bigfoot. Brenda got a fortune last event, I mean trip to the Chinese buffet what last Saturday. It read Next Friday will be exciting or you! Well, last night about 7-ish she got a call someone drove through the elevator with what had to be a tall box truck or semi van, and knocked the outside spout off one of the bins. Now. On the 28th of December, I got a fortune that said. “remember three months from this date. Your lucky star is shining.” Oh how excited I am about the 28th of March. Ooo. Giddy.
Was seriously contemplating getting a Zephyr! Then I too could hang out and scratch my head til my brains ooze out my ears because something doesn’t w*rk and ask Jeffrey to decifer the DCC tech jibber jabber. But, the little refrigerator in the basement quit soooooo. Maybe this spring. I need to get the track and wheels cleaned so the thing will travel before throwing another monkey wrench in the mix.
Snowing again.
Still haven’t hung that light. You know how I know? Brenda keeps pointing it out.
Heading out to Menard’s or Lowe’s and dinner. I wonder if she sabotaged the little guy as an excuse to be in town for to eat. All she had to do was say so. No Chinese buffet. She’s still miffed about the last time. “maybe some other time…..”baby””.

Good morning. It's 40° with 100% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a chance of rain. The high will be 48°.It's cool and wet outside this morning and warm and toasty in here. There's a long slow rain falling, no thunder to speak of. Just the sound of raindrops on the over-roof.After my sign-off last night I got to work on a couple of locos. The end loco on the F unit Frankenloco trio started cutting out and was getting dragged. It has an old DZ125 decoder with short wires meaning it has additional wires added to extend those. That means multiple solder joints to check out. I found one that hadn't been soldered. The one the goes to the bottom of the motor. It was a simple job to clear any corrosion from the connection and solder it. That put it back in service. The other loco I worked on is another F unit, an F7A. A Bowser/Stewart body on an Athearn frame, Athearn trucks, Proto 2000 motor, blue box/hex drive hybrid drive shafts that I made for it and a custom made center weight that I made myself, not as heavy as an Athearn super weight but it gets the job done. I finished up around 3am. As a consequence I'm not feeling so great this morning.

I was able to sneak in a couple of hours to do some more work on my On30 critter. Body and chassis are now finished, i.e. there are no more parts in the kit. Next is getting out the old ultrasonic cleaner I have stashed away somewhere and give both a thorough cleaning, followed by a coat of primer.

I am sure, our friend Galaxy will familiarize you with the not so sophisticated rules and rituals in here. Feel free to chime in!

Morning Coffee in the diner with friends...
GOOD MORNING!!!
Today is Saturday, January 5th, 2013!!!
Some people think us MRRers 'have bats in our belfry', SO:
Meaning:
crazy or eccentric
Origin:
Bats are, of course, the erratically flying mammals and 'belfries' are bell towers, sometimes found at the top of churches. 'Bats in the belfry' refers to someone who acts as though he has bats careering around his topmost part, i.e. his head.
It has the sound of a phrase from Olde Englande and it certainly has the imagery to fit into any number of Gothic novels based in English parsonages or turreted castles. In fact, it comes from the USA and is not especially old. All the early citations are from American authors and date from the start of the 20th century; for example, this piece from the Ohio newspaper The Newark Daily Advocate, October 1900:
To his hundreds of friends and acquaintances in Newark, these purile [sic] and senseless attacks on Hon. John W. Cassingham are akin to the vaporings of the fellow with a large flock of bats in his belfry."
Ambrose Bierce, also American, used the term in a piece for Cosmopolitan Magazine, in July 1907, describing it as a new curiosity:
"He was especially charmed with the phrase 'bats in the belfry', and would indubitably substitute it for 'possessed of a devil', the Scriptural diagnosis of insanity."
The use of 'bats' and 'batty' to denote odd behaviour originated around the same time as 'bats in the belfry' and the terms are clearly related. Again, the first authors to use the words are American:
1903 A. L. Kleberg - Slang Fables from Afar: "She ... acted so *** ... that he decided she was Batty." 1919 Fannie Hurst - Humoresque: "'Are you bats?' she said."
1903 A. L. Kleberg - Slang Fables from Afar: "She ... acted so *** ... that he decided she was Batty."
1919 Fannie Hurst - Humoresque: "'Are you bats?' she said."
There have been several attempts over the years to associate the term 'batty' with various people called Batty or Battie, notably the 18th century physician William Battie. He was a governor of the Bethlem Hospital, a.k.a. Bedlam, and physician to St Luke's Hospital for Lunaticks, where he wrote A Treatise on Madness. Despite those illustrious credentials, it was bats rather than Battie that caused scatterbrained people to be called 'batty'.
The author feels obliged at this point to add a response to the steady contentions from people who read this stuff and who say it's all wrong and that 'bats in the belfry' derives from a Victorian inventor called Batson, who patented a safety coffin which was topped with a tubular device containing a bell. The aim of the invention was to guard against premature burial and came to be known as the 'Batson Belfry'. They seem to suggest that this is the source of the phrase.
If the story is in any way correct, it concerns the name Bateson rather than the usually cited Batson. In his novel The Great Train Robbery Michael Crichton includes this:
In 1852, George Bateson received a patent for the Bateson Life Revival Device, described as "a most economical, ingenious and trustworthy mechanism, superior to any other method, and promoting peace of mind amongst the bereaved at all stations of life". In 1859, Queen Victoria awarded him an O.B.E.
Novels are of course works of fiction, but it is this novel that appears to be the source of the belief in the 'Bateson Belfry'. Just in case the story has any factual basis I have done a little research into it. Did Bateson even exist? The comprehensive Oxford Dictionary of National Biography makes no mention of any George Bateson - surprising for a prominent inventor who is supposed to have been awarded an Order of the British Empire. Did he record a patent? There is no record of the supposed patent at the UK Patents Office. Was he awarded the OBE? No, he wasn't. Queen Victoria didn't award Bateson, or anyone else, the OBE, she died 16 years before the OBE was inaugurated.
Leaving aside whether Bateson (not Batson) patented a safety coffin, or even existed at all, what about the claimed link between him, his device and the phrase? Here we can be sure - there is no evidence to support such a link. The 'Bat(e)son Belfry' origin is a fanciful imagining.
This does, however, make an interesting folk etymological link between the phrases 'bats in the belfry', 'saved by the bell', 'dead ringer' and 'stinking rich', which have all been falsely suggested to have originated from practices to safeguard against premature burial.

Good Morning!
On our tour throughout Austria, we have arrived at Salzburg yesterday, late at night. We will stay two days in this lovely city, before we move on. There are no plans other than a night out at the opera, so you will be on your own to discover this gem among Austrian cities.
At 8 pm, we will all meet in front of the opera.
We will enjoy a performance of "Cosi fan tutte" of. W.A. Mozart.
Così fan tutte, ossia La scuola degli amanti (Thus Do They All, or The School For Lovers) K. 588, is an Italian language opera buffa in two acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart first performed in 1790. The libretto was written by Lorenzo Da Ponte.
Così fan tutte is one of the three Mozart operas for which Da Ponte wrote the libretto. The other two Da Ponte-Mozart collaborations were Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni. Although it is commonly held that Così fan tutte was written and composed at the suggestion of the Emperor Joseph II, recent research does not support this idea. There is evidence that Mozart's contemporary Antonio Salieri tried to set the libretto but left it unfinished. In 1994, John Rice uncovered two terzetti by Salieri in the Austrian National Library. The title, Così fan tutte, literally means "Thus do all [women]" but it is often rendered as "Women are like that". The words are sung by the three men in act 2, scene 3, just before the finale. Da Ponte had used the line "Così fan tutte le belle" earlier in Le nozze di Figaro (in act 1, scene 7).
Enjoy!

Good Evening...
Well, everything is ready for me to get those reports done...computer all put together and ready...4 boxes worth of surveys and account books at my disposal...et cetera....now me weekends are off!!....
I have a few things to fiddle with in the train room as well this weekend so I think I'll be rather busy in there..one being cleaning it up........my room looks more like a storage facility again....
Ray: I think that the water tank looks good ....CA used for the the project?
Good evening all, just a RBF for me. Had a good day today at w**k and also once I got home. Amy made pan seared pork chops with apple stuffing and bacon cheddar mashed potatoes for dinner, so I can't have anything at the moment or I'll burst!
Curt: I tried heat shrink tubing, but wasn't able to get it to shrink down enough. I'm actually thinking that I'm missing a sleeve that fits over the shaft on the truck that would allow the driveshaft to slip into, but I can't seem to find that piece either. Oh well, I'll figure it out, otherwise the engine will make one heck of a dummy!
Welp, nothing else for me, I'm heading to bed as I have to be at w**k tomorrow morning at 7:30. Goodnight all, and later taters!
Did some wiring work on the layout today. Back when I rewired the blocks for DCC I ran feeders to all the blocks but one that was on the back side of the extension. Instead I had soldered the end joints of that blocks at either end of it. That worked great for quite a while but I guess the solder joints on the inside rail weren't as good as I thought. For a while it's been randomly cutting out. Pressing down on the area next to the track would restore contact for a couple of weeks or a month or two. It progressively got worse. The last week or so I've been feeding power to the inside rail of that back from the corresponding rail on a service track near it by attaching a clip lead to the inside rail of a spur on the troublesome section and put the other end of the lead on the rail on the good service track. That worked OK for the short term but it looked downright tacky. Today I drilled a hole next to the troublesome section and ran a feeder to it from the buss as I should have done in the first place.Well, that's it for today I guess. See y'all tomorrow, the first Saturday of the new year.
Evenin' folks,
Janie, just a cup of decaf before I head out to bed tonight. Have to be up early tomorrow to help load and move furniture from the Boy Scout office to Camp. The office building has been sold, the office closed, and all the better furniture will go to camp to be used there. They can use a bit of an upgrade.... Believe me!
I did get a few things done on the layout this week... Got the .009 wire (Ernie Ball High E extra light Guitar strings) installed on the water tower. Now that I'm done, I almost know how to do it. Next one should be better.
With the roof installed:
Hope all of you have a great night!
Prayers for all in need...
