IWorking with Brenda in the kitchen is like…Hmm.., well..Confused….hard to describe. Now we have a small kitchen true, but let’s just say if the kitchen were the size of a football field....., there still wouldn’t be room for me. So it’s best I just not try. Never seen anyone who needs the entire kitchen to make a bologna sandwich.

Todd - you and I must have the same sized kitchen. Whenever Petra comes into it, the only way for me is out. OTOH, the goodies she prepares in that "pantry" are worth the trouble.

Wish I could join you folks for Thanksgiving. We hardly have family with us these days. Talking over the phone ain´t just the same. We are starting to feel lonely.

Anyways...have a great Thanksgiving...and be safe out there!!!Smile, Wink & Grin

Good morning. It's 41° with 97% humidity. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 75°.

No plans for today. I'll be watching my mother this morning. Thanksgiving dinner at my sisters place later. Spend the evening recovering.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!

Just coffee for me this morning, saving room for tonight.

(pssst. Why's Bear smiling so much?)

A 20 percent chance of showers after noon. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, increasing clouds, with a high near 64.

I baked the pumpkin pies last night and the apple pie will be made this morning. Dinner will be about 5:30, 6 so that should give me time to do that, then vacate the kitchen to the garage to prep the fryer for the turkey. Working with Brenda in the kitchen is like…Hmm.., well..Confused….hard to describe. Now we have a small kitchen true, but let’s just say if the kitchen were the size of a football field....., there still wouldn’t be room for me. So it’s best I just not try. Never seen anyone who needs the entire kitchen to make a bologna sandwich. Somehow, however, every year she will manipulate things so that she finds a reason to do something in there when I’m in there, or she has me do something like get the ham ready while she is doing something else. While it can be done, it's like sharing a chair at the table, it just ain’t easy to put it mildy.

All in all this is still my favorite holiday. Part is because that instead of being more commercialized like Christmas, it actually seems less commercialized but still as popular as ever. I see way less childlike stuff for thanksgiving like I did as a child. Haven’t seen big fat turkey in a Pilgrim suit for yearsYes. But people still travel great distances to be with family and giving thanks for what they have. And yes, I have seen folks who would not consider going to any Church even for a free meal, give thanks in prayer on Thanksgiving. Hey, whatever it takes. The other part of the reason is the food!!Mischief

Thank you for all being friends. I am grateful for every one of you and wish you a very blessed day with your family if you’re able to be together, or if not, at least get some time to hear their voice.

What I’m NOT grateful for is this mouse! When you roll the scroll wheel back, and I’ve been very careful in doing so to verify my assumptions, the screen scrolls down, then up then down some more. Like you’re taking the scroller and moving it forward and backwards rapidly. Sometimes, rolling the wheel back to scroll the screen down, the screen will actually go up for a couple moves.Sigh Talk about pulling your hair out.

Welp, best get a movin, have to vacuum the floors again. Labrador Retriever you know. (shakes head) Even though we now have the furminator, turns out a Lab can kinda make up for that if they put their minds to it I guess. (chuckle)

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Galaxy - the pictures should show now, so you don´t have to guess Smile, Wink & Grin

Yeah, no turkey dinner for us tonight! I still remember my first Thanksgiving back in 1973. It was the first time I had turkey and I loved it!

Thanksgiving is celebrated much earlier in Germany. It was on October 7th this year. It is not really a family holiday over here, just a special service in church, that´s all.

Those links just say " Please visit Proxxon" and have no connection to them.

We can, of course go to proxxon.com and hunt around I guess...

Have  a great day, U- even though you won't be sitting down to a full Turkey dinner!!

Good Morning!

It´s a beautiful morning here in norther Germany, though quite cold. According to the weather guessers, the next few days will be the last nice days, as temperatures are supposed to drop and a lot of that white stuff is heading our way.

Chloe, just a coffee for me, please.

Folks, thanks for the kudos on that building. It looks OK when viewed from a distance, but it does not really meet my quality standards. It was a try, just to see whether these materials could turn up something nice - and they don´t. That layout will be the last I am going to build and I want it to be a masterpiece, all the way from A to Z. I already bit the apple and order this little tool:

It´s a miniature jig saw, which should help me cut those window openings. I got a good price on it, about $ 40! As soon as I have saved up some more $$, I will order this tool as well:

I will make good use of both of them in building all those structures!

Have a good day & HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Morning coffee in the Diner

GOOD MORNING!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

In 1621, Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast, acknowledged as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies.

For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn't until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November!

Thanksgiving is celebrated primarily in the USA and Canada. It is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada, and on the fourth Thursday in November in the USA.

Because of the longstanding traditions of the holiday, the celebration often extends to the weekend that falls closest to the day it is celebrated. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. Historically, Thanksgiving had roots in religious and cultural tradition. Today, Thanksgiving is primarily celebrated as a secular holiday.

{history channel and wikipedia}

Now: for the old man joke of the day:

A man was telling his neighbor, 'I just bought a new hearing aid. It cost me four thousand dollars, but it's state of the art. It's perfect.'

'Really,' answered the neighbor. 'What kind is it?'

'Twelve thirty.'

The prayer candles will be lit as long as I am here....we have some hospital running to do after the bird is cooked!

Have a great day!!!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer pleases.

Work Front While I did not recognizes the name, I know the Manager! Tyler was the Services Manger when I was there a year ago. He was one of the few that tried to help me when I got started and I like him, this may work out while I am there.

Meeting I missed. Turns out it was called by Dave the area supervisor. Dave blew me a little stuff, but not much. I am pretty sure after working with me in person for 6 months I would have went to it if I knew.

Only been there a week and one of the employees (if not more) is a stealing from me! Last week I posted one of the counter person's had walked out. Well she was back today? Anyway I had a ticket that had of 2 tires that each had a $7.50 spiff on them. After the ticket was cashed out, I checked my commission report, no Spiff? Hum, asked Tyler about it, he was confused because he saw me write the ticket? Tyler showed me how to open a detail report and see who got paid! Seems Jamie had cleared all 7 lines off the ticket and rewrote it under her employee number! She was all ready gone for the day, so we (Tyler and I ) will confront her Friday.

This all so happened Saturday while I was working with a different salesperson so I will be going though the other tickets as well. Guess that there way of welcoming me to the store, lets see if we can Steal from him!

 See you all Turkey Day.

Good Evening Diners,

It was Jerry's birthday today, he is 65 and so Windy City dogs and RBFs on me for all the patrons of this establishment in celebration. I can relate Jerry as I hit that mark just a couple of weeks ago. Sure hope Sallie is home soon.

Winter is supposed to hit us again on Friday, but not in the form of the white stuff, just cold as in -12C for a high. Soon have to 'plug in the car' which doesn't mean an electric here, just the block heater.

I have finally finished painting the Water Street Freight shed. I find it takes longer to paint N scale structures than HO. Sure they are a lot smaller but that just means a far smaller paint brush and you have to be very careful to get it on smooth and clean. I did run a train on the layout tonight, first time in many months. Next up, more buildings or I might get going on the scenery. It is roughed in and now comes the finishing bit which always takes me a long time.

On the HO front I tried out the smoke unit on my TLT Northern this past weekend. Yes it did puff but the smell is awful plus I don't like the sound of the whirring fan. Likely the first and last time I will use it but I was curious. I think I drive my wife crazy with the whistle on that one as you can 'play' it.

Galaxy, you do have my sympathy on your issues with your in-laws. Two years ago this month I was at war with our health services here over my mother trying to get her into a care facility and out of the hospital.  Sadly it only lasted a month as she passed away early December just a week after we finally got here into a fairly nice place.

derJohn, are you selling off all of your N scale stuff or just doing a cull?  Good luck up there in Pictou. Sure is a picturesque spot. Did they ever get that replica ship finished?

Well getting late, so time to sign off.

That's Foam Board! BowBow - you never cease to amaze!

I think Ulrich is finding out some of the hardships of using foam board. I used it for some building foundations years ago. I haven't used it since.

Paul: Just sent you a PM - feeling for you all.

Folks, Saturday and Sunday will find me at the Dartmouth Sportsplex with a Kia Soul full of N Scale locos, cars, buildings, etc. etc. in the hopes of selling a whole bunch - the layout is being dismantled on a more or less daily basis.Crying

Ulrich: That's Foam Board! BowBow - you never cease to amaze!

Spent today looking at building lots in Pictou, and learning a great deal ( see, I didn't say "a lot" Whistling) about what is and isn't allowed under Town Planning vis-a-vis manufactured homes, "Yard Allowances" and all kinds of good stuff.  Long way yet from purchasing anything - but could have been close today if a certain lot had been large enough inside the yard allowances for the home we want to place.

Looks like bedtime again, goodnight all. Prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Evening guys

I started working on some kits I had stashed today. I got all but 2 finished. The remainders are an MDC thrall gondola in BN (I have 3 to build, but am waiting to get a bunch more to assembly-line style and some .01 styerene bits for shimming the bottoms shut) and an ATSF tri-level autorack kit. The autorack will be weathered before assembly. I'd like to do that tomorrow, weather and work (yeah, I work on thanksgiving) permiting. I'm intending to fade the red a bit and add tire and oil stains and maybe some rust too.

Ken, I hate it when work does stuff like that to me. They called me at 11pm asking if I could come in to work in the morning. They've also called me at 2am asking me to come in ASAP, even though I'm already doing an 8-hour shift that day. So a 12-hour shift? BTW, check PMs

Ulrich, the house looks good.

Jeff, be glad you don't have plastic clips for the headlights (even though all I have to do to change the bulb is twist the connector, pull it out of the headlight housing, and then bull the bulb out; I just take it out for racing). It's not that they break, it's they are really hard to get off. I've used hose clamps to depress the plastic tabs on the 3 studs, then just yank it out. Someday I'll figure out how to do nuts instead of the plastic stuff.

Garry, I've forgotten about that one. I guess I should finish some projects (like my Gp5)

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

We had a somewhat busy day. Up early and off to breakfast at our local diner. Then ran errands and a little shopping. This afternoon I put up the Christmas lights around the foyer roof and the railings coming up the steps to the front door. As it was 55 degrees here, I wasn't going to let this opportunity slip away. It was nice doing this job this year withour freezing fingers. Even the timer worked and came on at the proper time. My goodness, we are the first ones in the neighborhood with Christmas lights ablaze, and it's not even Thanksgiving. Speaking of which, we will be spending turkey day at my nephews tomorrow. We are looking forward to it, especially my wife who spent Thanksgiving last year in a nursing home.

We would like to take a minute and wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. Especially those whose spirits may need a little extra boost this year.

Hello, hello, hello good model railroaders... Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

Chloe, I'll have a porterhouse steak, medium rare, baked potato, and a trip to the salad bar tonight.  I could use a cup of decaf coffee as well my dear!  What,  Happy?  Why yes I am!

The bill finally arrived for the Solar Voltaic System in the mail today and I transferred funds from the revolving credit on my house, had a counter check cut at the Credit Union, and stuck everything right back in the mail to them...  The system is now mine!  Of course I am now $9,400 poorer for the moment, but having it paid means I can take advantage of the Federal program on my years taxes.  They will be reimbursing me A little over $3,000 on my taxes after I file early next year...  I am also just feeling better being off the niacin...  Joints are better, and seem to have more energy.

Ken....  Sounds like they had you owning several houses.  LOL  Remind me to stay with the Credit Union and stay away from banks!  I delivered all the paperwork for the 501C3 to the bank downtown, and the lady at the office (it is a small office of a bank based in a neighboring town and is the last locally owned and operated bank in the area).  She told me they could have it processed by today.  I said, "Wow, that fast?"  She nodded her head, and I told her, "I take back all the rotten things I have said about this bank!"  Then told her, "just kidding, just kidding!"  She started to laugh...  She doesn't know that what I was kidding about was taking back all the rotten things I have said about THAT place!

Barry!  I meant to say yesterday I am very glad to hear you have some good news and don't need more chemo!

I am busy cooking down the winter squash I am bringing to Thanksgiving Dinner tomorrow at my son's house.  Tomorrow morning I will be making a crock pot full of my famous bread stuffing.  Oh I got a bit of scenery done in the train room over the past few days...

This is the area to the right of the hillside/mountain scene I have been working on.  The above is just the start of the forest.  here is the next step, to put in the brush along the edge of it:

Still have more to do there, just waiting for the glue to dry.  Here is the area right next to the hillside and you can get a better idea of how it will turnout when done:

 Hi All

Flo, Diet Dew to go pleases.

About ready to head to work and meet the new boss, wonder how that will go?

Spent most the morning filling out paper work for Bank Of Stupid for the loan modification. Not holding my breath, but have to go through the motions. They sent me 2 packets, one with the right address and one with the wrong address that I cannot get them to fix! Both are the same, so I guess I will send in the second  to be safe!

Looked on line today for a new job, there was really nothing to speak of? Maybe it is the Holiday? Did not find one job worth sending in a resume too.

Boy it is Foggy Today! Wife left around 11:00 AM and came straight back home. Most fog we have had in quite sometime!

Toe Ulcer Looked a lot better last night when I changed the dressing! Maybe this new treatment will finally get the job done! Yes Go back in next Tuesday, lets hope they think it looks better as well!

 Time to run.

 Ken

Good morning. It's 67° with 60% humidity. It'll be sunny with a high of 78°.

My father and I had breakfast in town this morning. McDonald's this time. Normally we'd go to Burger King. However where the Burger King restaurant was there's a pile of rubble and the sign says 'Closed for remodeling'.

My mother gets released from the hospital today so my father has to go to Alexandria to pick her up.

We had to take care of a couple of little things on his car this morning. New inspection sticker, replace a headlight bulb. He had already bought a replacement bulb but he went by what the part inside the fixture looked like. He got a pair of 9007's. Wrong answer! The car takes H13's. So back to Autozone. He got the correct bulbs this time. I removed the burned out bulb from the fixture. That was a trick! The small space provided is tight for a child's hand, more so for my partially paralyzed hand. I attempted to disconnect it from the connector. I pressed the release tab and pulled the bulb but it wouldn't come out of the socket. One of the guys who works at Autozone tried extricating it with a pair of pliers and only succeeded in removing the bulb from the base. Well at least that was part of it. He claimed the wires had become soldered into the socket and we'd have to cut the socket off and replace it. Naturally they don't carry that part. That didn't sound right to me. If he pulled the bulb off and the connector wires with it how could they be soldered in the socket? I push the release tab down hard with a screwdriver and pulled on the base and it slid right out. Took me about thirty seconds to clip the new bulb in and seat it in the fixture. Problem fixed.

Replacing the headlights in my old van is much easier! Don't even have to raise the hood. Just take out four screws, remove the bezel ring then pull the bulb out and unplug it from the socket. Reverse the procedure to put the new bulb in. Simple! No reacking into tiny spaces required and no getting scratched up from all the sharp screw ends they insist on leaving exposed.

Now that the fun and games for the day are over with I guess I can do some more cleanup on the layout.

Mornin' everyone!

"The sun is a-shining to welcome the day..."  Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, eggs over easy, bacon, home fries and an order of sour dough toast to go along with my dark roast coffee.  Please and thank you Ma'am.

We have been becalmed here in  the Finger Lakes for the last several days.  Wind is less than 3 mph (usually no wind at all).  The wind turbines over at Zotos have been idle all week.  But, the bright ball in the sky has been out lighting up the roof of my house, so I am happy.

Galaxy, tough times for you folks.  It is heart wrenching to try to help the old folks out and not have the resources to be able to.  Keeping you in my prayers, my friend!

I am suddenly feeling better than I have in a long time...  Wonder if it has anything to do with getting off the Niacin?  Back pain is pretty much gone as well as several other chronic complaints I have had for several years.

Have a long list of deadlines to get done today, so I will be on my way.

Later!
