The Mayan Calendar end date is only 30 days away..... December 21, 2012.

So, I'll be really busy completing my layout in the next 30 days.  I would not like the world to end without my layout being completed.

Got morning errands done.

Now have to take FIL to hospital to visit with MIL.

Then have to have FIL home by 2pm for a meeting with the hospice coordinator to determine what to do next. with no hospice care, they will go broke and can't afford paid nursing help all the time.

My FIL wants us to move into their house! MOH said "Over my dead Body!". So that will be LAST RESORT before putting MIL in nursing home. MOH is afraid MIL will die immediately in a nursing home. I don't think so. but who am I to tell?

Taking care of them {mid 80s heading to late 80s} could go on for 10 years or so.

A neighbor is still kicking and she was BORN in 1914!!! She lives with DIL who takes care of her while son works to pay the bills. BUT, they have some money behind them too. First of course, she went through half a million dollars in long term care insurance rather quickly!! So THAT wasn't enough...

I hope we can get them into an assisted living facilty, but I think they will go broke doing that. I don't know.

MOH hand I have some planning to do too, as we have no children to rely on to POSSIBLY take care of us in our older age. I say POSSIBLE as there is no guarantee they would even if we had them.

Its not that we don't want to help Inlaws, I am barely able to care for myself and can't keep up keeping home here! MOH has to work!

So I don't know..dilemma dilemma dilemma.

Sigh

Back again!

I finished today´s work on the house:

  • painted the facade in a very light blue color
  • painted the stucco (cardboard plus plaster) ornaments in a light gray
  • painted the roof
  • added ornaments to the "steps" in the gable
  • installed window glazing
  • installed two lamps next to the door

I still need to install interior lighting, add curtains, some inside walls and the steps to the front door., but all of that will have to wait a little while.

Now the house is "taking a little rest", while I wait for the last bits of glue to cure and the paint to thoroughly dry. I will then snap a few shots to show you, tada Whistling

My first scratchbuilt building!

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Bill sizes Coffee Pleases.

My wife just came out to the Garage / Snake / Train Room and told me Tyler (New Manger to me) called last night at 9:00 PM and left the following message. "Ken where are you"? That sees odd, so I called this morning at 7:00 AM to see what was up?

Seems there was a meeting last night that started at 9:00 PM? Well that was news to me! Now more important to me is I was off Tuesday. Does this manager expect a person on there day off to drive 44 miles round trip for a meeting after closing?   Whistling Got to get the heck out of this places!

 See you all later.

Paul,  Sincere condolences.  I watched my mom battle cancer for 10 years.  The ups and downs were hard for all of us.  Take care of yourself.

Lunchtime!

Janie, coffee and a burger with all the works, please!

Started early in the morning to do some finishing touches on that house of mine. Starting to look better now. Still I have to rethink my choice of materials. No pictures, yet, maybe later in the day.

Have a good day!

do they even have BN E units for HO? where you going to do pre merger scheme or hockey stick scheme?

I think Rivarossi did them, I've heard they aren't too great and the paint is wrong. I could custom paint, but I'd like to have one of the Ex-Q ones that retained their stainless steel panels.

Something like this:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=368063

there were a few variations though. Like this E7:
http://www.flyerguide.net/viewphoto.php?id=2149

I personally like stainless steel cars, and most of the ex-q cars retained the stainless steel with BN markings. The GN and NP cars got repainted.

I like the straight stainless much better than the green thumb. that would be an interesting set to see.

@ jim

the only company flyer I get is from walthers and they only have a couple pages on N scale, then there's some rail museum back east that got a hold of my address somehow and sends me a catalog full of HO only stuff. Grumpy though I told my uncle that I'd buy him an HO scale BN GP40 for the holidays.

A bit late for me checking in, but ...

**Lowers the Diner's flag to Half-Staff**

**Bows in respect to Paul's Wife  Bobbi passing**

You have my heartfelt condolences and prayers of myself and the entire staff of the G&NW who hosted our excursions for the diner patrons this month.

**Looks out the window, watching as the flag in front of the G&NW's main offices is lowered as well**

Helen has (or had, at my last visit) one of those shops that hand-makes decorative candles.  I'd like Paul (in NV, I presume) to go pick out a virtual candle, compliments of the G&NW.

Our excursions will resume next week, visiting Milestone Zero, Underground Atlanta, The Cyclorama, World of Coke, and other attractions in and near Atlanta.  Our last excursion of the month will pay a visit to the former C of G (I think?) Roundhouse in Savannah and other nearby attractions.  After that excursion concludes, the Diner will be ready for it's trip to its next destination.

J.R - Seems like you are enjoying your time in OZ.

If you had time to get out to the Hunter Valley or up to Central QLD you would see coal trains to rival the powder river basin.

Sydney is Australia's largest port, and an important one in the region. Alot of boxes are trans shipped in Sydney. Containers are delivered to site and unloaded, returned typically after 3 days. You may not see much freight or containers where you are as the trucks can only go on designated routes and same for trains. If you hang around the blue mtn's long enough you will see plenty.

If you have time get to Taronga Zoo and pet a kangaroo and cuddle a koala Big Smile

The storms were fun. Wall cloud is commonly used here too. Some places in the west of town had 4" hail which is some of the largest we've seen for 15 years. Nothing will compare to the storm of 1985 (before my time) though.

193km/h wind gust, 3.5" hail in a path 20km wide at peak hour on a friday afternoon. $300 million damage in 1985 dollars, billions in todays. Brisbane had no glass for two years. Suppliers couldn't keep up or hold stock, it also spawned a few tornadoes.

Keep well all.

Oh, Garry, I almost forgot about your question on the bank building I'd posted the photos about. It's here:

He has a few boats and some docks too, for those who model seaside/lakeside RR's. Also has various detail parts on some other pages of his website.

Good evenin', Chloe - I'll just have a go cup of hot chocolate, please. Nope, no boot coffee, thanks!Surprise

OzJim, impressive storms you have there! - that second photo reminded me of what we call a "wall cloud' around here; usually has hail and/or strong winds/sometimes tornadoes (tornados) as well. Our news/weather people here showed that large waterspout off the Australian coast. Pretty big one, it was!

Galaxy, sorry to hear about your FIL's trip to the hospital. AngelAngel going up for him. Hope you can get something figured out on help for your MIL and for your FIL when he is ready to leave the hospital.

Jeff, hope your mother continue to improve (and maybe even in time to go home for Thanksgiving). It sounds like you're making some progress on the layout cleanup. Thumbs Up

Ulrich, hope your plumber gets things connected up right for your toilet. I doubt that they have outhouses in the city, right? Oops Looks like you are getting your building back into shape there. Yeah

Garry, those decorations under your tree look pretty good - except for that oversized mouse back in the back there....Whistling

Todd, you're getting pretty frisky (chancy?) about what you're saying to Brenda - got your health (and life...!) insurance paid up? Hope so! Surprise

Ray, congrats on the good report from your doctor! Bow He may be worried that it's time for him to retire, at the rate you've been improving. Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken, sounds like you got the good PA & nurse at the VA. Good that she's doing the extra checks (X-rays) for you. Follow those directions to the 'T' about the ointment/antibiotic, you hear? Thumbs UpYeah

Curt, thanks for posting those photos of the switchers!

CDN Dennis - Laugh'ed so hard that the milk ran out of my nose!! Laugh Have you been taking lessons from Galaxy, or Garry?Wink

BN24, it's always the choices in this hobby - Smile, Wink & Grin especially once you get on the distributors' and manufacturers' lists to get catalogs mailed to you. Wow Happy choosing!

Sue, from some of the radar tracks I've seen on TV lately, I was wondering how much Storm/sn*w/whatever you were getting in your area. The weatherguessers were saying that it was getting pretty wet there!

Paul (in Nevada) - my condolences on Bobbi's passing. AngelAngel for comfort for you and the rest of your (& her) family. At least you know that she's no longer in pain.

Prayers for our other Diners, as well, in need of comfort, healing and strength. About time for me to head for bed, myself.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
