Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I will have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sourdough toast this fine morning.  Oh, and a cup of the dark roast coffee in my FGLK Mug if you would please.

I have been sitting here for a while watching the frost melt off the roofs around the neighborhood.  Easy to see which ones could use a bit of insulation added....  There are 2 National Homes across the street and by the time I got up the only frost left was the lines right above the 2 x 4s under the roof.  Most of the others will start with a few small areas where there is a leak of hot air rising to the roof and spread outward from there.  I have a couple of those spots on my roof as well, but all told the attic is very well insulated.  I have also been fully enjoying the fact that the blasted Maple trees nearby have finally decide to drop leaves this morning.  There is now breeze outside, but there is a steady drop of leaves coming down!  YES!

I have to be at an appointment at a local bank early this afternoon to see about the MLK going under the umbrella of a non-profit group set up by a local group which would give us 501c3 status.  That would be a major boost to getting funding for our scholarship program.  Then this evening I was supposed to be at the rechartering extravaganza for the local Boy Scout Council.  My units leadership can't be there due to w*rk schedule so I guess I don't have to show up.  May actually get a bit of model railroad time therefore!

Hope you all have a safe and productive day!

LSWrr

2 years ago my city passed a levy to build new energy efficient elementary schools.  Last summer they devalued my property by $50,000.00 now they passed a 5.4mil levy to offset the loss in property taxes.  They should have just left our property values alone at least we would still have a little equity in our homes now my home equity is at negative 30,000.00 and I’ll be paying almost $3,000 a year in taxes on a $55,000 home in what is becoming a less than popular neighborhood.  Several home owners in my ZIP code are walking away from their homes and finding a place to rent because the house they bought is no longer an investment.

Are you Kidding? Lee, people here pay $3,000-$4,000/yr  on $55,000 homes all the time on a 40 x 80 lot!
Recently one town's taxes are going up because a major business got a HUGE multi million dollar savings on it's property taxes...so now it will be passed on to the homeowners there in addition to what they pay now!

On another town, a Major building was built for a medical outfit here..n.ow the medical outfit wants "tax exempt status" based on "non-profit" operations...when was the last time you heard of a major health care outfit {hospitals, Drs, etc} running solely on Non-profit status for a bunch of Dr.s offices? {except free clinics to the poor-which this outfit DOESN't have there}

Well, I wish they would show other news besides the elections....there should be other news that is...ah well

Did the usual grocery shopping and have some other errands to run but home for a spell,...had to pain setting in my back and spiraling down my left leg badly. so resting and then I go out.

Accuweather LIES...they say bright sunshine here...and all I see is clouds???
Well I got most of the groceries in havet o strruggle with the seltzer and waters as my back eases as they might just freeze out there...

See ya

Greetings from Stewart Fla..

Do you mean Stuart, Florida?

My in-laws live there, out on Hutchinson Island.  If you get a chance, check out the Treasure Coast Model RR Club in Port St. Lucie, just up the road:

We're battening down the hatches for another storm today and tomorrow.  It should be mostly wind, some rain and maybe even snow mixed in.  I'll be happy if the power stays on.

HOOOOO-wwwEEE Jeffrey. Talk about yer fancy roads. Why you could set out there all day long and admire it. Was it asphalt before, or some other material?

It was dirt and gravel. Dust and mud as most out here called it.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and some biscuits with assorted jams please. Oh yes, real butter. Thank you.

Well…., I was wrong. Gas prices rose to $3.47 yesterday morning. Guessed that one wrong and lost out on $3.25 holding out for that nickel. I woulda bet that prices would drop another nickel yesterday. Oh well, still better off than many folks in other countries.

Ray- I’m glad the power grid passed. Sounds really great you seemed to have gotten more bang for your buck than you bargained forCool. Maybe they’ll owe you next year. Might be easier for them to get on a level payment plan with you.Laugh

HOOOOO-wwwEEE Jeffrey. Talk about yer fancy roads. Why you could set out there all day long and admire it. Was it asphalt before, or some other material? I know it was in bad tore up shape, just curious if you got one of them there Parish upgrades at no additional cost to you special deals. Just be careful, gets a bit slicker in the winter than gravel. And at night they can be a devil to even see if your on it. Well, until your off it that is.

Accent? Nope, don’t believe I have one either. Now when it comes to slaughtering the English language well now that there’s a different animal all together. I’m from the Midwest….it’s what we do.

Nothing political, but shut down coal powered plants? Well now what about the coal miners, transporters, both highway and rail etc. etc. etc. All the countless jobs relying on that industry. Not a good "look at the jobs we’ll create (both said it)" kind of future.

Welp, gotta watch Ziva, then w**k on the shower door. The bottom drip rail should be well adhered by now so onward and forward. But today I must find my way into Springfield around the lunch hour for ink for my printer which is true, more of an excuse to go to Popeye’s for their Crawfish Festival. It’s not bad for fast food. Not as good as the stuff off the Chinese Sunday Buffet, which isn’t as good as when I boil ‘em here, which isn’t neeeearly as good as the stuff you can get in Louisiana at a gas station. Mud Bugs….pretty darn tasty bait. No wonder the fish like em.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 42° with 100% humidity. There's a north wind coming off thee lake. That makes it feel even cooler. The high will be 72°.

No plans for today other than to rest and give my wounds a chance to heal. Hopefully everyone else, my father especially gives me the chance to do that.

Good Morning all,

John, I hear it wasn’t so peaceful in PA, the National Guard had to be called in.

Ulrich, glad you’re on the road to recovery!

Johnboy, I have to agree. I’m concerned with the story about EPA regulations to basically shut down coal fired power plants or to make it cost prohibitive to operate a coal powered plant.  I think it will hurt us citizens in the end.

Ray, I’m not sure I would mess with snow on the panels; I think I would just rely on wind and temps to clear it.

What a surprise to find you here!

A big Welcome to one of the finest meeting places in the web! Here we meet to talk off-topic, about the day, and exchange views and opinions, all within the policy our host has set for the use of this forum.

I am in the process of terminating my spree into model railroading Japanese style. N scale has become to small for me to enjoy, so I am right now planning a step up (or two) in scale.

Great to have you here!

Greetings from Stewart Fla..

Partly cloudy and temp in the 70's today,  Got the Pescarolo prepped and ready to load yesterday working out of a local industrilal unit. We load into Daytona today and start practice tomorrow. I spent most of the day changing out brake parts and then doing realignment and corner weights to suit Daytona where we run both some of the banking and the road course.

Off to the truck and then to the track.  CUL, J.R.

MusicAndy got scared and left the bar

Walking on home cause he didn't live far

you see Andy didn't have many friends and he just lost him one

Brother thought his wife mustve left town

So he went home and finally found

the only thing Daddy had left him and that was a gun

He went off to andys house

Slipping through the back woods quiet as a mouse

Came upon some tracks too small for andy to make

He looked through the screen at the back porch door

He saw andy lying on the floor In a puddle of blood and he started to shake

That's the night the lights went out in Georgia

That's the night that they hung an innocent man

Don't trust your soul to no back woods southern lawyer

Cause the judge in the towns got bloodstains on his handMusic

GOOD MORNING!!!

Good Morning!

Back home again. The docs drained a small amount of fluids out of my lung and as of this morning, no new accumulation has taken place. I will have to go for a check on that every three days for the next weeks, but I am quite positive that I am on my way to full recovery.

Back to MRRing!

Have a good one!

Evening guys

Well I tried my C425s and U28Bs at the train club. I got the U28B to have it's mars light. But the QSI-equipped sound/DCC C425 continues to baffle. It runs really well, but if I try F2 (horn) or F10 (speed in scale MPH) it dies on the spot. A fellow club member tried upgrading it to a version 7 chip and nothing changed. Tried reset, nothing. Setting it to a consist address, same. It works fine if I disable those 2 functions. I'll call BLI and QSI tomorrow, after the hard reset (the magnetic wand). If you recall my C425 has the circuitry from a BLI RSD15 (sound would be the same for the two locos except for the very top end as the C425 had 100 extra PRMs over the RSD15), an atlas/kato drive, and a newer atlas shell. The problem could be with either manufactuer.

Good Night All,

In my opinion, it is a very sad night for the USA.

Johnboy out............................

Agreed (I'm one of those college grads that can't find a job; jobs that were in high demand a few years ago). I bet the difference could have been the people who elected not to vote because they didn't like either canidate (I know about 20 myself). That and the usual culprits in the last election.

I asked my brother if he voted (recall he's in Ohio) and he got his absentee ballot too late to cast it. Me and him agree that there is something fishy there.

However it's technically not "offically" over yet. Recounts can happen...

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a refill on the decaf please.  I'd have some pie, but the sugar was a bit higher than I like.  Not bad, well within range, but still higher than I like.

Galaxy, yep, we are on tap to get a bit of nice weather with the highs on Saturday about 51, and then Sunday and Monday 59°F.  Should be a good hard frost tonight again. hoping the leaves get the message and fall off the neighbor's maple tree...

Karl, nice present!  Hope you didn't have to buy a new car to get it....

Thursday I have to carefully drive the Dakota up to the dealers to see what is wrong with the brakes...  The Service manager knows he needs to contact me before doing anything more than getting me an estimate.  The truck is 11 years old, and I keep wondering why I keep spending money to repair it...  I would like to keep it for a while longer, but am getting close to thinking I could rent a truck when I need it cheaper than all the repairs and the cost of keeping it on the road (Insurance mostly).

Ken, I can't believe your company didn't have someone just waiting for the customer so she could find the new place...  Why the nerve!  Whistling  Good luck with the interviews!

I should probably call it a night soon.

Catch you all in the morning, hopefully.

Well I have the Dream, Plan, Build medallion displays hanging on my wall. I wouldn't mind having the last three medallions to fill the collection out but that probably won't happen. It looks like there's supposed to be fourteen. I have eleven.

No work on the layout today. I was leaving bloody footprints earlier so I changed the dressing on my foot. No wonder it was bleeding. There was a three quarter inch shard of bone sticking out of the wound, which is slowly healing. If I could stay off my feet for a long while without people demanding my time it might have a chance.

Discovered today I have another leaking pipe. This one is under the trailer where the plastic line comes out of the ground to join with the trailers copper line. I found it this morning when I was extending the kitchen drain line. I could do that without going under the trailer. Fixing this new leak would mean going under there. The sewage line is right there and with open wounds I want to stay away from that! I asked my nieces husband about it and he said he'd take a look as soon as he can. It could be a crack in the pipe, a loose connection or a bad gasket. In the meantime I still have water.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Pleases!

Boring Work Front Again! So nothing special to complain about.Only thing of interest was we had a complaint customer call the home offices today! She said she was at our store today at 10:00 AM and we refused to honor her tire warranty on her 2002 Ford F150! Hum, hey Chris, did you talk with a woman about tire warranty today at 10:00 AM? NO, Ken, did you? No Chris have not talk to anyone yet today about tires!

Turns out the complaint was we moved the store, she was at the vacant building where we use to be! "You should have someone there to tell people you moved 2 months ago"!

Sent out 5 resumes today, have gotten 3 call for interviews. As soon as I can, I am out of there!

  Latter, Ken

Just wondering, what does sn*w on the roof/panels do to the electric power production? That is of course if you have the sn*w on the roof problem down your way.

Just wondering. Out here in Alberta, if you have solar panels on the roof, the roof has to have a really steep pitch so that the sn*w will slide off.

Don`t you just back feed the juice into them and heat them up to remove the snow?

Jeffrey and Galaxy, my oldest sister has lived in a lot of different places both here in the US and in China for a while.  She will ramble into one of several different accents depending on what she is talking about.  She is now back living in Flowyduh.  I bet some folks there just love her Indiana accent....  LOL

As a singer, in college, it was mandatory that you learned to pronounce any language you were singing in (for me it was mostly Italian and German) without any discernible accent if you expected to pass your jury exam at the end of each year!  I was told I was actually pretty good (for an education major). Whistling

Ray- My German MIL says I don't have an accent in German when I speak it. But: 1} She has hearing aides so probably doesn't hear my accent, 2} probably is used to my "American English accent" {to her}, 3} thinks it cute when I speak German, 4} finds it amusing when i do even if I leave articles and words out, and 5} she wuvs me, oh, and 6} she loves it when I sing "oh tannenbaum" for her at CHristmas! {the first german I ever learned in Elementary School.}, ANd 7} She wuvs me...or did I say that already?

Ray- posta be in the high 50's the weekend, how about up your way?

The guy who was here today says to get a large window washing squeegee and a long pole (long enough to be able to reach the lower panels entirely from the deck.  Carefully just pull the snow off the lower panels.  The lower panels will "back feed" the others and the generated heat will slide the rest of the snow off onto the deck.

Hmmm don't know if the heat generate would be enough at -20C. The steep pitch does what the long pole/squeegee do only without the manual labor part Big Smile We have a super energy efficient home not far from us that on of the big contractors built as a show home a few years back. They went whole hog on the project and ended up having to sell it at a loss. As in selling it for $600.000 when the actual construction cost was closer to $ 800K. Oh yes, the house is only 2600 sq. ft. and it's been sold 6 times in 10 years.

Back feed?  Ah, no, not really!  The panels create a bit of heat as they work, and there is more than enough heat to take out around 4" of fluffy white stuff fairly quickly.  Get a few feet of it, that is a different matter.  The company that installed it says to just let nature take it's course and chalk up a few days of greatly reduced power...  Just leave it be and soon enough it will all slide off by itself.

Been just chilling out here this evening.  After the inspector left I called the recycling place in town and unloaded the pickup into my little Yaris to transport the computers, shredder, monitors, telephones, and spent Xerox toner cartridges down the place....  Did it in 3 trips.  The truck was completely packed.  I am still amazed at times just how much stuff I can put into the Yaris with the back seat down.  Cleaned up the stove today also.  It was completely gross with grease and other gunk from a few times I boiled something over on the stove, so I feel better about having that done.  Think I'll disappear to the train rooms for a while.

Now all I have to do is write the check for everything!

There is always the "write a check" part to any project isn't there. Sigh.

I bets y'all don't quite talk that-a way!

But I DO bets y'all got a southern draaaawwwwwllll....

I don't. My accent is still screwed up from living in seven different countries. I lost count of how many schools I went to. Do you know how hard it was finding schools overseas that had special ed curriculum's? Even in Germany there were only a few and none in Italy. I was home schooled there. The other countries had a few specialized schools. Of course this was back in the 60's and 70's. As for a drawl, don't have one at all.
