Good Morning!!!

Sunday breakfast buffet please. Thank you. Oh I see there’s a fresh Kentucky ham (kind of a disagreement in terms there) set up at the end. Load me up!!!

Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. Breezy, with a south southwest wind around 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Love the way they say “breezy”. It’s windy out there.

Sssssh! SurpriseShe noticed. Asked me this morning if I used the white grout for the floor. When I said yes (nothing more), she just gave a half nod and went down stairs. Could be good……could be badZip it!.

Jeff- I think your layout is fantastic. I always have. It’s so…..can’t explain it. It’s you. It’s real. It’s whimsical at times. It just looks fun. I guess. And I am SURE, those neighbors are just wallering in delight at the sounds coming from your trailer as opposed to the thump thump thump cra….sorry, art they normally are forced to here.

ZIVA!!!! THAT”S IT!!! I knew something was missing this week. I have felt strange all week. Kinda blahish, tired, frazzled, irritable yet lethargic. Now I know why, I haven’t watched Ziva this week. Oh my gosh! Best get on that today.

Brenda took the dog out this morn so I haven’t seen the rain gage, but from the back window it appears to be over an inch and it’s suppose to rain pert near all day. This is good. Most farmers around here are done, and we need a good start on the wells.

Tired of looking at messes. Gonna clean today.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Great gallery.  I was wondering if there was something that would seal the card stock, but noticed that you are using styrene.  I am impressed with the detail you have put into the silos.Thumbs Up

Jeff, I took Dorothy out shopping yesterday and I took her to a craft store and they have cutting gloves.  Some of the fabric cutters are very sharp so they came out with gloves that prevent a knife or cutting wheels from cutting your hand.  Do you think that might help you out in your hobby?  Have you ever tried a nibbler for cutting out windows?

Never tried the cutting gloves. Sounds interesting. I wonder if Wal-Mart has them. As for a nibbler, don't think I ever heard of that. If it makes cutting out windows easier I'm all for it.

Good morning. It's 70° and mostly cloudy with 94% humidity. There's a fair chance of rain. The high will be 85°.

Looks like a day for thunderstorms. Last night I got the wall and end pieces for the grain elevators gallery cut from scrap pieces of plastic from some larger structure walls and never once touched anything sharper than a Dremel cut-off disk. Today I'll see if I can put them together. Provided I can get that done I'll have to measure out the length and width for the roof pieces. So far virtually none of this has been measured (except the height of the silos). It's mostly been done by eye and dead reckoning. I have no other plans for today but who knows what anybody else has planned for me.

Good Morning!

Not even 5.30 am as I start to type this. I just sneaked out of the bedroom to get some "undisturbed" computer time. That´ll be a problem, once Petra is up Whistling

WindowsXP is now installed again, but I lost my Internet connection. I´ll be having a telephone conference with my son to see, how and if I can re-establish that. But he´s a busy guy, so I don´t know when he has the time to call me up. One should think that a father´s well-being has top priority, but my little request is way down on the list. I have to add, though, that he and his terrible GF just moved into a new apartment last week, so they have plenty to do to get that into shape.

Without having my notebook in service, I spent a lot of time working on those two modules. I ballasted the track and added some greenery. Not a lot left to finish them!

Got to hurry, I hear Petra is waking up!

Have a splendid Sunday!

Brad, The resistors are from a bulk package of LEDs that I bought a few years ago. IIRC they are either 680 or 540 ohm, but don't recall the wattage. I don't understand a whole lot about electronics, so it's kind of like chinese to me. lol I'm using 1.5v 15ma bulbs if that helps, my track voltage is 12.

If using 12 volts supply, 1.5 volt, 15 ma bulbs, I calculate you need 700 ohm (or higher), 1/4 watt resistors.  Higher values will give a bit more voltage drop, and slightly less light, but should make the bulbs last longer.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, [B} Pleases

Am I just getting old and silly, or are they changing the schedule on me? I swear I saw where I was off this coming Sunday! I had the wife pull some meat from the freezer so we could BBQ. Today while we had a lull in traffic we where talking when we worked next and I stated to Eric (manager) that I was off Sunday. About a hour later he told me I work Sunday? Bang Head

Personally I think Eric forgot this Sunday he has to do the tire inventory. Whistling  Which means he will be tied up from 4:00 PM on scanning tire by tire.

New Guy Rob. I have the feeling he is not going to make it, this job will kill him! Honest to God, he is built just like Peter Griffin from Family Guy! Now I am fat, but my fat is on a 6'4" frame. I would guess he out weights me by 50 to 75 pounds and is around 5'9" or so. New shop is full of problems, one of them is the A/C keeps breaking down. In fact the repair company will not call back anymore, they have been out 8 times in the 4 weeks we have been open.

Show room get very warm even on a cooler day like today with it being all glass and facing the East. It was only around 78 to 79 degrees today in the showroom and poor Rob was sweating like he been working out to the Rich Simmons Sweating To The Oldies video.Whistling I turned the fan on him where he was working to cool him down some. Boy that was a mistake! Ick! Showroom got really ripe in a few minutes! Whistling

Health Front, if you want to call it that! When I got up this morning my to middle fingers knuckles where swallow (that does look right) and it hurt to move the fingers! I all most called off today but went in anyway. While they are still sallow-en (again, does not look right) they are not hurting and I have full movement of the fingers. Just seems odd, I feel like I has in a fight and hurt the knuckles? Maybe a spider bite?

Well Ziva is waiting for me and I bought a treat for dinner tonight. Dinner Bought some Sliders from White Castle! Boy it will be REAL RIPE in the showroom Sunday!  LaughSmile, Wink & Grin

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a refill for the decaf please...

"Play it again"?  Jeffrey, I guess we will just have to nickname you Sam from now on.

I got a bunch of odds and ends done today, one of which was to take down and dispose of an old "Spider Plant" from my Mother's collection after she died.  I did save a few of the young plants from it, and after they root will have the plant back in it's usually sunny spot in the dining room.  The old plant was completely root bound and had come up over the top of the pot it was in.  I've been putting this off for about 3 years or so.  Unfortunately it left a trail of dead leaves all over the kitchen and living room...  I didn't clean it up yet either!

I spent an hour or so today doing some more on the corner scenery in the rebuild area.  It will be in behind the tracks going to the staging area and will have a small waterfall that will just end where you can't see it, but will ultimately become a major cut in the foreground and create a good reason for me to build a rather complex bridge to be judged for the structures certificate (NMRA).  I also hooked up and tested out a dimmer control for the "way too brigyt" LEDs I put in lower staging.

I will be helping out at the R&GV RR Museum tomorrow most of the day, so I think I shall call it a day.

Prayers for all in need!

Yes Todd, there's all kinds of strange things in Sundown. Ripley's would have a field day!Laugh

*

Well, earlier this evening I put a couple of old Niel Diamond records (yes I said records) on the stereo to play while I worked on cutting the pieces I need for the gallery structure. The records are two of a box full that my parents gave me a couple of decades ago when I was living in my old Dodge motor home. Well I went to work on the structure pieces and the records played. I had it turned up loud as the stereo is in the back and I wanted to hear it over the noise of the a/c unit. There were no interruptions, no phone calls. Only the sound of the a/c, the Dremel and Neil Diamond. And these are OLD songs that he sang back when I was a kid. Presently the records finished. A couple of minutes later I got a phone call. Yeah, I thought, somebody's going to complain about it. What I heard was 'Play it again!'. Withing three minutes I got four more calls. 'Play it again'. 'Could you please play that again?'. 'I want to hear it again'. So even as I type this Neil is doing his thing again.

Now it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

IndifferentSKUUUUUNK!!!! RUN FOR THE HILLS !!!!! SAVE YOURSEL........ Oh. Whew. Sorry panicked there for a minute. Oh, the white ones pretty.

I'll have one of them BBQ chicken knockers and a Dr Pepper please. Thank you.  What? Oh you can't say the "B" word in here so.....

(psst. Who's the new girl?)

Well, I made it back. Pretty good day today for me. It rained off and on all day so Brenda closed the elevator down at noon. Usually that's bad for me because she is standing over me "helping". But, since I already had the floor grouted and was on the tedious task of clean up, she pretty much left me alone. Now. We'll see how long it takes her to realize she wanted the floor grout to be a grey color instead of the white for the walls. Something I forgot until juuuuust about 4 hours ago. I'm keeping my mouth shut and play dumb. Then she wanted to go to the Chinese buffet. Yup. Shore did. No incidents though. Got this newer girl. She (Brenda) did question what ol Suki was saying to her and pointed over to us. Personally I don't think she pointed at us, maybe in our direction, but I didn't see it. Brenda refused a refill on her drink after that. Said she didn't trust her. Again, I laughed. Then it was a trip to Wally world. Ya, ya, I know. But hey, we have no local owned grocery stores anymore. No choice. Tomorrow, she is making pork ribs since the elevator is closed due to all the rain today. Reeeeeeally looking forward to that!!

Jeffrey, in Sundown there is a house on top a gas station. GE's sitting on Alcos. Alco's sitting on who knows what. Bachmans powered by Atlas's. And a wolf spider living in the fire house.  Why would you NOT have a loco on the grain silos. ROFLMAO!!!!!!! oh my sides hurt.

Anyway, just stopped in to give late Happy Birthdays, and prayers for people seriously in need of healing. Also Glad to hear a wife is still getting better.

And no Paul, Don't you feel a bit bad. Doctors need to talk to each other but don't. THAT little arogant quirk almost killed a friend of mine when they did all these tests and things for weeks watching most every organ in his body shut down only to find the original most asked and suggested by anybody you would ask without a medical degree, diagnosis for a severe pain in the side was indeed the problem. Gall Bladder. Yanked that out and he imprved almost overnight. Too bad he had to loose 60 lbs and almost his life. Feel not bad for questioning and stepping in. Were not talking about pestering the plumber about the faucet, it's your wifes life. They'll get over it when the bill is payed. Trust me.

Welp, raining again so I's a gettin sleepy. Maybe settle down in the chair and sip on a Dr Pepper in front of the tube.

Evening guys

Been modifying my CB&Q Kato SD40 to have the correct sideframes, using the ones from a P2K SD7/9. They take some work, but they do fit well. Luckily the BLI sd7/9 sideframes fit the P2K trucks, using the kato pick-up strip. I've done one truck so far, and I still have to file the back of the step wells and cut the brake shoes off for clearence.

Ray, my head hurts from looking at that lol. I can't tell which end is which because the bands are centered. It goes like this though: | | | | | .

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I'm doing a bit of work on the gallery structure now. I'm using my Dremel with a cut-off disk to cut the pieces from some scrap plastic kit parts. Making the windows will be the interesting part.

Evenin' folks!

Chloe I'll have the BBQ chicken ***, a couple ears of fresh picked sweet corn, and a trip to the salad bar tonight.  A hot cup of decaf to wash it down with would be great as well...

Packer, you can tell the values of a resistor by the color bands on the side of it.  Try here: http://www.rfcafe.com/references/electrical/resistor-markings.htm

Been busy making up my yearly supply (or p[art there of) of my fire starters for the wood stove.  I make them out of old paper egg cartons.  They are already recycled paper and these make a good use for them rather than sending them to the dump.  My sister in Canadaigua saves her old candles (she always has candles burning all over the downstairs of her house whenever anyone comes to visit) and after she uses them a few times and they don't look just so, she puts them in a bag for me.  I melt them down using an old pot and a #10 tin can as a double boiler.  Some parts of the egg cartons are just dipped into the melted candle wax, and others (where the eggs used to sit) I pour the molten wax about half way up in.  They are cut using my band saw down cellar.  I used to have the Scouts make these as a "quick and easy" way to make their own fire starters for camping.

The nice sunny day around here turned into dark gray clouds about lunch time...  The 3200 watts I was getting from the panels went down to about 350 watts in less than a half hour...SighGrumpy  I was hoping for a good day today...

Catch you all later!

Jeffrey, Why not styrene? Looks like it would be a pretty simple structure to scratch build. I saw a layout some where, the guy used Duncan Doughnut boxes for most of his buildings after he enjoyed the doughnuts... and they looked great.

I could use sheet styrene except that I have to be extremely careful around sharp blades. I can get a nasty cut and not even know it until I start looking for where the blood is coming from. Been there and done that. So I try to avoid using tools with sharp blades.

Garry, The ship I am building is a Great lakes freighter. it will be passin bye on the layout in my harbor (if it turns out??) It's a Bearco marine models kit, Their GLF-24 Kit. Take a look at their web site If you are interested. They have some nice stuff and they are very nice people. The kit was close to $500.00 ( after shipping) So I was debating on how bad I really wanted it. Earlier this summer I went to Duluth Minnesota and watched some of these ships coming into the port. I think they are awesome. Any how my wife and  her friend went to the casino the other night and about and about 2am she text me and asks how much the ship I want costs? Turns out she had won about $600 and she says order it for your B-day. Lucky me! My birthday is the 29th of Oct and I got something I wanted. That was very nice of her. There is a group of people on U Tube, Look up [Boat Nerds] and You can see some of the Great Lake Ships in action if you like them, I sure do...

Guess I will get busy. I spent half the day going store to store looking for a small disc sander, Looks like  Micro Mark is the one I am gonna end up ordering. The ones I found around here are way bigger and way more $$$ than I want to spend for what I need.

Is there a way to measure wattage on a resistor?

The package should be marked.  Wattage should meet or exceed the expected load on the circuit.  If you use an LED that draws 200 milliamps, then a 1/4 watt resistor should be sufficient.  Using a 1/2 watt resistor wouldn't hurt a thing, in fact, it would likely run cooler.  Dropping to a 1/8 watt resistor would overload the resistor in this example.  You could use 2 resistors in parallel to add up to the necessary load wattage (use double the resistance rating)... which mitigates the whole purpose of what you were trying to do.  Isn't electronics fun?

Good rainy afternoon, fellow diners!

42 and rain.

Ballasted more sidings today. Also joined an F-ABA together with styrene drawbars. They tested out great, and gave me  another 2 pair of KD #5's for something else. I took some pics but can't find the computer cord for the camera to upload! Ran some trains, found ANOTHER track issue and repaired same. Better now than when company's over!Wink

Good start on the silo house,Jeff! It's a solid starting point, I think.

The inlaws are coming for an overnight visit later. FIL has issues with his legs, the talk is of amputation below the knees. He'll find out after" exploratory/try to repair "surgery Monday. Circulation/vein problems.MOH is obviosly stressed a bit!

Happy B-days to those I missed!

Nice to see a bunch of new names here, too.

Afternoon guys

The meet at the train club went well, save for almost getting sideswiped by a friends MTH Bicentennial Daylight. Lucky it would have been in the middle of a bunch of MDC and BB boxcars, not the P2K and IM stuff. I'm thinking of changing some stuff up. Probably put the F45s and SD45s up as they've been running twice a week for 3 hours at a time non stop. I'm thinking Gp15, GP38, GP38, GP38-2, and maybe a GP30. Depens on how soon I can put the beacons up on them, hard part will either be soldering (i'm not very good) or modifying older DW beacon castings. Best get started. lol

The date; well she actually showed up. And did she match her description, no. In fact, she was better. lol. We had a good time and have plans to meet up again.

Brad, thanks for the advice. Now I just have to measure these resistors to see what I need to buy. Hopefully radioshack has something very close to it. Is there a way to measure wattage on a resistor?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
