Evenin' folks!

Janie, just my usual decaf right now....

Dennis, noble looking beast you have there...  Seems there are quite a few of us cat servants here in the diner.  Dogs have owners, cats have "staff".  Here are mine:

Manét:

And Blackie the Scamp!:

They are loving brothers (Litter Mates) I inherited form my Father.  39.5 lbs of kittie cats!

Speaking of "BIG CATS".  California Tom hasn't been back in for a long time again...  I miss his classy piano playing!  Not to mention his modeling!

Shoes???  i only have one pair of "shoes"...  Steel Toed Boots actually.  Bought them for volunteering out at the Museum.  I can't stand to have them on my feet for more than 20 minutes at a time, so they sit in the closet collecting dirt and spider webs.  I do have 2 pair of sneakers though.  I have been buying New Balance for years now.  I have a "dress" pair I where to church and other fancy dansy things, and one pair used for everything else.  Going to family gatherings, working in the muddy garden, volunteering out at the museum and everyday stuff.  Oh I have a 15 year old pair of winter boots I use for shoveling sn*w and running the sn*wblower when needed....  Can't see any reason to spend $$$ for shoes, clothes, and other non-essential stuff.  i wear old Boy Scout and museum t-shirts and have a pair of bliue jeans and a couple still usable work pants.  I do have two pair of "Sunday-go-to-meeting" trousers and a fancy coat to go with it.  I'm all set for a couple more years I think.

Hope you all have a good night.  My prayers for all in need!

Karl: That sounds like my mothers shoe closet! She has shoes in there from the late 40's to the present. Just when you think she couldn't get another pair in there she'd work on it and space would magically appear. She can't add to it anymore as she's confined to the bed or couch much of the time.

Murphy is alive and well and living under my kitchen sink. The outlet pipe on my water heater sprung a leak a few hours ago right where the pipe goes into the water heater. I turned the water off at the road but Murphy apparently has an address there too. The valve won't cut off all the way so there's a trickle getting trough. Just enough to build up pressure and spray out in a mist. If I'm not online tomorrow you know why.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Boy my hip is really bothering me, my knee has settled down. Don't know if it is the fact that the arthritis has me there or just my weight impacting it...I know BOTH of which the Drs will say is causing it just to have an answer.

Well, Soon to be dinner,
Pizza

Geeked

Maybe you should start eating a little more healthier?  With all the health issues you keep bringing up a diet change will sure help you.  Maybe look around for a dietition that can help you with your diet and help you lose the weight that is causing your knee and hip pain?

I am not the only one here who has health problems you know. Why must you pick at me?

Pizza is something we have once in about every 3 months. It is a "healthy variety' based on mediterranean styles- not the crap USA pizzas. MOH enjoys it and I can't see denying myself a piece.

Dinner is usually a 4 oz serving of meat.{varied of them}, a tablespoon of starch {rice, occasionally potatoes or noodles {again MOH likes the noodles- I am not so fond of them}, and all the veggies I want- varieties among them. A salad starts it off if need be as well as works as  a snack if I want one anytime. Lunch is a sandwhich and a salad if I want more. If I want something more than just  a salad...I make it a full Greek salad.

I cannot eat that much as I had corrective surgery on my stomach and esophagus...called a Nissan Fundoplycation. They tie part of the stomach up around the esophagus to form a new LES muscle...the Muscle that keeps your food in your stomach. Before the surgery I vomited involuntarily 80% of anything I ate as the LES muscle didn't hold the food down. The muscle should function at 100% closed when not allowing food out. I had to pass a test for the surgery by failing miserably at the LES test. mine functioned only at a rate of 3% of the time closed. In other words it was NOT keeping the food in my stomach. I slept on a vertical bank of pillows at night but if I rolled over on my side, I would vomit in bed, sometimes all over My Other Half {talk about love...when someone who isn't your parent loves you even when you throw up on them!!!}

After the surgery , with a 125lb body that was constantly starved as I vomited 80% involuntarily, My body now stores anything I eat as fat rather quickly. I used to have a bucket I carried around with me in case I vomited and the garbage can in the vehicle, and swallowed hard it back down in public. I now weigh twice what I did then, but that is the breaks I got. The less I eat, the actual MORE weight I gain...as my body THINKS it is being STARVED again.

I drink only seltzer or Spring H2O { no sugary drinks}. If I want Breakfast it is Bran or Shredded Wheat.

It is that time of year again,so  I will eat a few pieces of Halloween candy too, and will have some Christmas goodies if I like when they come out or if someone gives them to us.. I am not a total idiot and yet I see no reason to be a total vegetarian. Then It will probably be Valentines day or Easter before I get anymore sweets. MOH doesn't buy me any valentine candy, I do for MOH, but sometimes I may get a piece "shared" with me.

I am severely asthmatic and have been since a early teen. I can get winded walking to the mailbox 4/10th a mile away. Due to the back problems and that lot, I cannot walk far or do much either. so I am rather sedentary, not by choice. I get the household chores done as I can. but not being able to stand for more than 4 minutes without excruciating pain it is hard, let alone move too. The spinal nerve steroid  injections only provide about 4 weeks of mild relief from the pain combined with TWO heavy duty pain killers, and a serious muscle relaxer. WHen they removed two tumors form my spine it was supposed to "help" but didn't. I WAS going to be a participant in a new surgery study, but it had been in place long enough to know it didn't return the results they had hoped on others, so they declined it on me.

You should be so lucky to be healthy, and thank your lucky stars. ANy more questions or critiques?

Now the day is over and rest will come in sleep. Train nut arriving tomorrow and I have some shopping to do, so I will be sore again. He also wants to go look at used cars while in the city. So we will do that too. He is looking for a small fuel efficient number. So are we, so I go with him.

have a GREAT NIGHT guys!

Evening All,

Been a couple of busy days for me, with closing shifts and still standing guard dog at the hospital, so I am kind of beat. Wife should be moving back to the oncology ward tomorrow or Thursday and out of "The Snake Pit" as my daughters call where she is now. Her spirits are good and she is ready to take on the next round of chemo.

Shoes, I have several pair of hunting boots, even though I have not been hunting in years, but great for the snow and hiking around the Nevada high desert, one pair of Merrill slip ons, and one pair of dress shoes. OK don't laugh, I have had theses dress shoes since 1967, I bought them when I worked at Macy's, part time back in NY during my senior year in high school. Cost me $45.00 back then, over a weeks pay, had them resoled once. Probably the best buy in history. I wore em in the Navy, as my dress shoes, and they still keep a great shine.

Curt - glad to hear your friend is doing better.

Jeremy - I say take whichever job comes up first and then if you have to quit the part time one for the full time I would do it with an explination.

Prayers to all in need.

1 pair of sneakers for work (replaced every 5-6 months),

1 pair of hiking boots (railfanning/snow shoes)

1 pair dress shoes (black penny loafers)

1 pair cowboy boots

Hey Jeffery, new generation only buy Brand Name stuff. Status you know.

Yeah I know, but he's twenty-nine now. You'd think he'd be over the status thing by now. I outgrew it long ago.

With the amount some of you guys pay for shoes and inserts I guess I got off lucky spending 200 on the wifes 2 pairs.

My nephew goes out and drops $150+ on ONE pair of shoes then whines and complains about not having money to do the things he likes to do. I'd tell him to buy cheaper shoes but I know it would go in one ear and out the other without impacting anything in between.

Hey Jeffery, new generation only buy Brand Name stuff. Status you know.

On another note, it's been a busy day today with w**ing on the sun room, running to HD for a bag of insulation. That burns me, having to buy a 16 piece bundle of fiberglass itchy stuff when I only need 4 pieces. Now what do I do with the rest, store it forever?

Went to the LHS today and lo and behold.... bought 2 DCC Backman or however you spell it Diesels in Early CP Livery and the modern Orange livery. How much?? $82 Cdn each which is a good buy. Plus, they have a huge consignment of pre owned that just came in, still in the boxes so it's going to be buy buy buy a freight car fleet or two or, well, we'll see just as soon as Ben the shop owner gets to sort it out and price it all.

Going to Cow Town AKA Calgary on thursday if it doesn't snow and while there I'll drop in at trains & such and buy the Digitrax DCC stuff I need. There goes about a $1000 bucks. Sheesh, sure glad I've got such cheap tastes... Indifferent

Later Folks

Now to laundry. Oh boy, I usually do most of it on Mondays after we are done with shopping and other errands, and just the bedding and towels on Tuesday. But yesterday we had quite a bit to do and by the time we got home late in the afternoon, I decided to wait until today. Now I will be doing laundry all day. With there just being the two of us, we seem to generate an awful lot of dirty clothes. I think this stuff breeds in the hamper when no one is around.

  Tom

Tom I have sworn two people could never have made  so much laundry either! There is two of us and I swear the laundry breeds as well. I don't have  a particular day to do it, but rather do it once for a few days so I don't get over-burdened doing it! It befalls me to do it as MOH is out working and I am "retired".

I am listening to some god music.  'Sé mo laoch, mo Ghile Mear. One of my favorite ditties. SHHH RAY may not approve!

No mail today, so no bills but that just means they will be here on the morrow. I forgot to go the Credit Union and transfer the money to pay the car insurances to the checking. whether I pay by check or by electronic means I still have to transfer it. I guess IF I TRUSTED online stuff I could both move it and pay it. But I don't. I have had too much stolen online to trust it. No matter what programs to stop such things.

We finally got credit on a clothing article we ordered for My Other Half in July at the Renaissance festival. It was because they didn't have the material and couldn't get it. SO I had them credit it back to the CC. Good thing I was still carrying it as a balance and not paid it off.

Our "train nut" friend has replaced what was to be his MRR with  a pool table! How rude! Guess he wasn't as much of a nut as we thought. Oh well, win some, loose some.

Good Morning,

Like others here, my first train set was a Lionel steam freight back in the mid forties. For the next 10 years I added to it with track and one or two other steam sets. All the building were PLasticville and all the accessories were Lionel. The layout ended up being 4' x 16' with another 4' x 8' "L" shaped extension. One day this older couple who lived a couple of blocks away asked if they could see my trains. After watching them run for an hour or so, he asked if I wanted to sell them. As I was wanting to switch to HO, I agreed. Best deal I ever made. Apparenly money was no object for them.

Back to my local diner. We decided when we got up this morning to go and have breakfast again this morning. Now here's the reason I love this place. Not the cooks fault, but the bacon just wasn't very good. Very hard and just broke up into little pieces that were not chewable. Never happened before and the problem was the bacon itself. Anyway, the waitress got all concerned when taking the dishes away and wanted to get me another order of bacon. I turned her offer down as I was full anyway. Then she wanted to get me an order of sausage. No, I'm fine, don't worry about. When leaving the cook came out and she was all concerned because I didn't eat my bacon. Now she is from Egypt, and speaks very broken English. She is funny, because sometimes instead of two pieces of toast, I will get three. The reason, the cook thinks the bread is too "skinny.' In other words the size is smaller than what she thinks it should be. Or if one of my eggs break, she will add a third to the order. None of which is important to me as I'm not too picky, but it matters a lot to her and the waitress. The CEO's of the chains could learn a lot about customer satisfaction from those two.

Efeveryone have a good one.  Tom

 Morning Dinners

Flo, Coffee Pleases and a grill cheese sandwich.

I broke my own rule this morning, worked called and I picked up. Whistling Yep, they need me to come in early.  I guess I don't really mind, have a good week going and hope to break the $550.00 mark.

Might not drop by the dinner tonight. I have to be at work Wednesday at 9:00 AM, that is a little early for me.

My first trains? Guess I was around 6 or so and got two Lionel F7A's in Santa Fe Warbonnet's colors. Only car I remember is the flat bed hauling a Sub. Use to play with the sub in the bathtub.

Going to run the trains a little, then get going.

Mornin' Everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a cup of your finest dark roast coffee and a couple glazed sour cream donuts this morning.  Thank you Ma'am.  Yes, put it on BN24's tab...

Another dark gray, gloomy day so far here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 48°F with a high around 51°F later this afternoon during the time the sun is supposed to show up for a few minutes.  I will need to go to the grocery store to pick up a few things, but most of the day will be spent just doing more cleaning around here.

Last night, I had just shut down the computer when I heard "cli-snap".  For a second I thought, what the heck was that?  Then remembered I had set the mouse trap under a box (with a hole in the side) out in the kitchen.  By the time I got there both cats were thoroughly engrossed in checking out what was under the box.  Yep!  Caught one!  when I got up this morning I had caught another one.  Haven't been down cellar yet to see what might be waiting for me down there.  Guess I am going to have to do some more checking top see where they are getting in.  I thought maybe they got in when the solar panels were installed as the back door was open most of the time and they could easily get in  under the screen door...  Time will tell.

Ulrich, I certainly do remember my very first train.  I was 6 years old and came down stairs on Christmas morning to see this thing going round and round in front of the tree...  T'was a Lionel steam loco with two cars and a caboose.  Dad told me that Santa brought it and set it up for me top make sure it ran OK...  Even then I thought, "Yeah, Right!"  I got more track, buildings, and equipment every year until I reached High School I think.  At one time I had filled the floor of a spare bedroom upstairs in what was then my Grandmothers apartment with "O" scale trains.  Then I went to college and promptly forgot about them.  I have no idea what became of them.  Last I knew they were all boxed and stored in the walk in closet in that bedroom.  Right after college my Dad sold the farm and built a house nearby.  Have no idea what happened to the trains of my childhood???

Later!

LSWrr

So, last night I cast my absentee ballot and I would like to know what in the heck my town is thinking.  The county reappraised everyone’s house, decreasing the value by up to 50%, now the city wants an emergency 15 mil tax levy with the option to exceed the maximum 10 mil levy limit to support the schools.  They also want to build a fishing pier with a 5 mil levy and they say they need another 2 mil levy to improve the sewer system in town.  We just had a huge school levy pass 2 years ago and built all new energy efficient elementary schools.  They don’t understand that this will take away from model RR funds….  My house value continues to decrease and my taxes continue to increase…..

Around here a town will have its taxes increase majorly as a larger business concern got its property tax burden cut by Millions of dollars. The taxes on the average house on a tiny city . 2 acre lot {yes POINT 2 acres} is about $5K a year...it will go up to about $6k a year next! Another manufacturing company is trying to get into that town and will undoubtedly want a break in taxes too. It is moving form one town to another in the area, so no jobs lost for the area, and I don't think they plan to add any.

Also a Major health care system built a huge new complex in another town near here, and they are trying to claim "non profit" status and cash in on no taxes!!! {if only health care was "non profit" maybe it wouldn't cost so much!}

Businesses around here are trying to avoid any taxes they can and burden the people who live here with more as it does cost the towns something to have businesses located in a town.

Well

Been to wally world. Gotta go back as the cashier just scanned the top 3 pack of 5 3 packs of tissues. It was aPuffs 3 pack at $5, the others were Great Value {WW brand} at $3. SO I was over charged by about $8.00.

Went to ALDIs too. picked a hefty bag of stuff for $30 there.. better than the money I spend at MOH's store for less! {twice as much money half as much food!

Went to the pharmacy too. Picked up scritps and stuff.

So Now my left hip is screaming at me and my left knee isn't happy either. THAT the Drs will say "loose weight and it'll feel better"!!!

Hey...anybody tried the LASER fat reduction program? If so how was it? price and results? MOH say not to trust it, but I can't very well exercise much so I am left with alternatives!

I guess i go take a nap now.

Anybody else here grow up with AMerican Flyer or Lionel.

My second electric train was a Lionel Double Diesel set I got for Christmas in 1965. My last O Scale set. The first was a Marx O Scale set I got in 1964.

Good morning. It's 56° with 87% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a high of 82°.

If it wasn't for the clouds it'd be a nice day today. Only plans for today are get a coat of paint on the elevator gallery structure. As for the windows that are on such a structure I believe I'll paint those on as well. Cutting holes in it would only reveal the loco shell inside. Now as for plans others may have for my time, that I have little control over.

Garry - I do quite well! It was Christmas 1963, when I got my first train set. Marklin, of course, as my father had a Marklin OO set 30 years earlier! Together with the train set came a Faller kit of a small station building, which I still have. I really wonder how it survived those nearly 49 years! It was also my first kit I assembled.

Test run completed - all systems work properly. I had to tinker around with the switches, though. Despite all care, some glue must have sneaked into the delicate parts of them. A clean-up with a toothpick took care of that.

Good morning .....

German-American Day? ..... Where's the strudel? .....

Actually, Shelley is of German descent. Same with the "outlaws" currently visiting here.

John R ....... I like the picture you posted yesterday. You mentioned American Flyer. My good friend in norther Illinois has lots of it. I think he has at least one of nearly everything ever produced by American Flyer. He tries to have 2 of everything, and may have several of certain locomotives and cars. We grew up togethr. I had Lionel and he had American Flyer.

Anybody else here grow up with AMerican Flyer or Lionel.

Ulrich. You may be interested my first HO was some Fleischmann trains my Dad brought back to me as he returned from a business trip in Germany.

How many people here remember their first train?

Cheers.

Good Afternoon!

Just woke up from a midday nap. I did not sleep that well last night, so I was bone tired after lunch. That infection I caught is still in my bones.

Janie, strong coffee, please, I need to get my eyes open. And while you are at it, how about a slice of that apple pie, topped with vanilla ice cream? Thank you, dear!

I will give those two new modules a test run in a few moments, just to see if everything works properly. It´s also time to clear up the shelf the layout is stored on - I won´t be needing all the building materials for a while. Need to find a big box to pack that stuff up and take it upstairs into the attic.

Lee - never heard of an American-German day. Is that the Wurst Festival in New Braunfels, TX? I know that there are about 60 million German descendants living in the US, which is an awful lot (like the double meaning of that).

Jim - no, these are two new modules, depicting a passing siding with a platform between the tracks - see below plan:

Well, that´s all from me for moment!

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a couple egg and cheese burritos please. Thanks.

Wow. Welcome to all the new guys.Welcome

Shoes? Can’t wear tennis shoes much anymore. That's ok cause most times I shouldn’t be wearing them anyway. I usually wear cowboy boots though I’m not a cowboy, similar to those who wear running shoes and don’t necessarily run. I’m going on 10 years for one pair, about 8 for the other pair. Can’t really state for my dress pair as they only get worn once in a blue moon. Only thing that really wears out is the soles and I take them in to the shoe guy in Springfield and he resoles em. Needs it about once a year so I guess that works out to I’ve spent between the two, oh say…, 7-800 dollars for two $125-$150 pair of bootsLaugh. For winter I have a pair of Wolverines. More comfortable to me and less expensive than Red Wings. Last pair lasted about 8 or 9 years. Just replaced them last year with a new pair. They have that soft rubber shock sole and I don’t think you can replace them. Never asked. The leather was pulling off the sole and the stitching on the heal had already been re-done once a few years back plus the soles were getting flat like I said so we’ll see how long these last. But like I said, I only wear them when the winter comes. Warmer and less slick dontcha know.

Lee -Wait til the housing increases and your taxes again do as well. It won’t be their fault though because, well your property values due to the raise in maarket did it. Not them. But don’t think they aren’t thinking about that now. Basically, they are increasing revenues for the future today.Pirate

Like Ray I be a cleaning up this place and doin laundry. Yes still doing laundry. Just as a note, in three days she has, among other things, MANY other things, generated 4 dirty sweatshirts. Out of those three days,Confused Sunday she did not wear a sweatshirt. I have never seen a person generate that much laundry so quickly. Now I know where the kids get it from. I’ve done laundry a lot, just not sat down and tried to get all the un done laundry, done. Now I see it’s an impossibility. We need a maid. Hmmmm. HmmWonder what kinda deal I can work out with the Chinese waitresses.Wink

OH calm down Zoe! I’m just kidding! Whistling

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning all ! Summer is definitely over in this part of the GWN.It doesn't matter to me much as it is always nice and warm in the shop.Since the age of 60 twelve years ago I have been concentrating on static layouts (dioramas),before that it was mostly model ship building and decorative bird sculpture going back to 1973.It is only with this present model that I am retuning to my youth of railroading and my much loved American Flyer. My first train set goes back to around 1945 but I now forget what it was, probably a Lionel. With my present project I have come full circle back to my first love and memories of days long gone by....I hope that I am not boring you guys with all this talk about myself but I just thought that you might like to know. Cheers ! John.

Good Morning all,

49F, Hi today 57F, Low 47F

I’ve been invited to an “invitation only” MRR sale tonight.

CN Charlie, I hate to say it but some of the small stores in the small towns need to evolve with the market.  One of the LHS has started selling online and it saved their business.

GMT, I put a drop in every 3 feet on my layout and extras around some of the turnouts where I knew there might be trouble.  I need to break it down into power districts with a switch to isolate ground faults.

Shoes, I like new balance, but I don’t like the price.  I found most of the high end running shoe manufactures sell off previous year’s models online dirt cheap.

TA462, due to a military related injury I have to wear custom full foot orthotics. Not counting the exam, adjustment, casting, and fitting my inserts cost $350/foot 4 years ago, that’s feets not every 12”. I’m not as bad off as some people but I have to wear work boots as much as possible to keep everything in alignment.  I’m still waiting on the VA to process my claim to help cover foot care….
