Wolfgang revealed over on trainboard very late last year or in January that he had a very serious illness. I PM'd him immediately and wished him well...I admired the man, and wanted him to understand it. He replied that he felt it was his last bit on the forums and that he would be slipping away soon enough...no bones about it. He had been in a coma since Aug 02, 2012, and died yesterday.
May he rest in peace. He was a heckuva good modeller and forum buddy.

Thank you for letting us know about Wolfgang's passing. The modeling community has suffered yet another great loss.
Personally I was in awe of his ability to put sound and reliable function into his GE 25 ton (I think I have the size right) locomotives, as well of course as his many other modeling skills.
I think I will get myself one of the 25 ton locos and a sound decoder to fit and build it in his honour.

My heart is heavy. Wolfgang and I exchanged emails a couple of times and I found him to be a warm, friendly, and giving person. The model railroad community and this forum has experienced a true loss with his passing.

It is so sad to hear of the passing of this true master of model railroading. I never knew the man personally, but could tell that he was dedicated to the things he loved. The Westport Terminal and the Pueblo & Salt Lake railroads will live on in my mind because of Wolfgang's skill at what he did. Wolfgang has now passed over and will join other model railroad masters and icons. I can only imagine the layouts they will create together.

He seemed always to be so comfortable in his role in life and with the things he imagineered he did with such finese. He truly taught me that less can be more, a lesson I shall not forget.

Just yesterday I thought of him, thinking that I hadn't seen him post in quite a while. I will remember his work particulary The Westport Terminal and his video showing chain link fence gates opening and closing. I was working on a chain link fence at the time,
I always looked forward to seeing his latest work. It was so creative.

Please consider posting a similar thread on the Atlas Rescue, MRH, and other forums you're a member of.
I am literally in shock. Just before popping in here, I read my email, and read about Wolfgang in the LDSIG list. I never met the man, but through conversations in the forum here made him feel like a friend. When Wolfgang posted new photos, you knew you were in for a treat, be it the fine quality of model work or the wonderfully intricate mechanical work like full sound in those tiny critters, or, more often than not, both at the same time.
My condolences to his familky. He will be missed by many.

Sorry to hear that we have lost another of our great modelers and innovators. I will miss seeing his postings of developments on his pikes. His Westport Terminal videos inspired me to get off the dime and work on my own layout and his work with small locos was really inspiring. He will be missed.
