Good morning. It's 74° with 100% humidity. The high will be 95° but will feel like 107°. There's a small chance of rain.

Today I'll be looking through my collection of freight cars for a gondola suitable for carrying a twenty-eight foot container. The length doesn't concern me. The width is the primary factor.  I have two Athearn gons that you'd think would be perfect for carrying an Athearn container. Not so. They're too narrow and the container must be forced in. Right now the container in question is sitting in an old Bachmann hopper that still has truck mounted couplers. Kadee's but truck mounted nonetheless. Lacking another well car I feel a gon would be more appropriate.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a Mexican omelet please with hashbrowns. Thank you.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.

Welp, It didn’t rain for two minutes then stop yesterday cause it didn’t rain at allSigh. Oh some great looking rain clouds covered the sky last evening looked like a deluge was overhead, but alas, nary a drop fell. Haven’t looked out so I don’t know if it rained over night enough to leave evidence. Prolly not.

Lee- Sounds just like Missy when she was that age. I’d say she was housebroke, just not old enough to hold it in. Oh I’m sure you’ll get the occasional stop playing and start to pee in the middle of some game, but with a quick HEY! the look comes across the dogs face that says OOPS! and to the door she’ll go. They learn reeeaal quick. Quicker than their bodies can hold it when they play. I remember on occasion a very sad and upset that she might get in trouble dog standing at the back door “leaking” with a dribble trail leading up to herLaugh. Open that door and ZOOM! Didn’t go far, but made it there fast!Laugh  Oh I felt so sorry for her. The look she’d give while you were coming to open the doorSad. Couldn’t be mad if I tried. I think dogs really can be sorry for what they do.

Think I’ll go scratch Missy behind the ear now. She good girl.

Herrinchoker- Glad you got photobucket figured out. Looks good!

Well Jeff, soon as you say that, someone will find a picture of a conex in a gondola.  Besides, you’re in Loosianer. Land of anything goes and use or eat whatever’s laying around. Arkansas ain't much better either, so put the two together as a railroad and ........well, your container in a gondola fits right in.

Ulrich- Sorry to hear the news about your aunt. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

As usual I got hauled away uptown yesterday and then did some cleaning in the garage though you can’t tell. Actually Brenda didYes. Sooooo, that means maybe laundry and choo choo room today. Think?

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good Morning!

I woke up early this morning. It is way too hot inside to get a good rest at night. A kingdom for A/C in our bedroom!

When I fired up my computer this morning, I received some sad family news. My aunt passed away last night at the age of 84. She was suffering from Alzheimer´s disease and her passing may actually be a blessing for her. It still hurts, even knowing that she is in a better place now.

Both my father´s younger sisters died on the same day of the year, which happens to be our wedding anniversary. My father´s youngest sister died on the day of our wedding, the news putting an abrupt end to our celebration 28 years ago.

I will drive to my parents´ place later in the day, just to be with them.

Have a good one!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me please.

Looks like Elmira, NY About 20 miles West of where I once lived got nailed by a tornado this afternoon.  They got a bit of a mess there.  State of emergency and a curfew is in effect. I got my masters Degree form Elmira College........  My family used to do a lot of shopping and dinning in Elmira back when we lived in Waverly NY.

I got a bunch of things done tonight in the train room.  I attached the trim to the upper staging board.  Tomorrow it will get the first coat of varnish.  I also got about half of the ballast done on the tracks on the lower staging.

I also reformated the 2 Tb drive I am using as a Time Machine on the iMac and backed up all the info from the iMac to it.  I had accidently partitioned the drive wrong when I first got it and wanted to correct it before I started to use to also back up the new drive that has all my photos, InDesign files, and a bunch of other important data on it.

Guess it is time to turn in for the night.

Hope everyone is safe where ever they are!  have a good one....

Time for me to call it a night. I took care of the problem with the top heavy well car by removing the top two containers. I put into other cars. One is in a forty foot gon and the other is in a specially prepared forty-two foot hopper. I don't think the railroads ever one like that but it works for me until I find another gon that doesn't look like a toy. See y'all tomorrow.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, just a lemonade for me at the moment....,.

Galaxy and others in the Southern Tier and the South East part of NYS and all of PA best take cover and watch the sky carefully.  they are all under a Tornado watch at the moment.  Two counties in NYS have reported tornadoes sighted and are under a warning!  I feel lucky Ontario county is not listed for it, but the sky is getting very dark outside at the moment here.

We need rain, but not like this.........!

Best get going!

Just a quick drop-in between chores here.  But I did want to wish Ulrich and Petra

a very """Happy Anniversary""".

So glad to hear you got out and had a lovely supper to celebrate.  We'll be having our 39th at the end of November this year.

I came in the back door of the Diner and took a picture of you two lovebirds while you ate last night.

Hope you like it.       Mom and Dad on a Date clipart

Good Afternoon All,

Ulrich, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!  Wow 28 years…..

Rob, I would try the yellow bug killing “traps” first, they’re the ones on the shelf that caution against human occupancy in the room that has the traps deployed.  My co-worker said they work better than a bomb.

Ken, has Suzie had her calcium (urine) and PTH (blood) tested in the last 4 months?  Sounds like me before I had my surgery.

Sakel: I strongly agree with Jeff’s comment:

“Walking down the tracks is a good way to suddenly find you amongst the recently deceased”.

If you don’t believe that just do a quick Google search on news stories of people getting wacked by trains. Locomotives may seem big and loud but they can sneak up on you…

Sue, my windows came with a GE card and my house mortgage was with GMAC for a long time, so it doesn’t surprise me your sewing machine was a GE credit.

Todd, I’m glad you had a good experience at Joe’s Crab Shack, I would go back if I find another one up here.

Flip, puppy is 99.9% house broke.  Katje goes to the back door and whines to go out, but sometimes the humans don’t hear her or move fast enough.  You know sometimes Katje waits for the last second to run to the door because play time is too much fun.

Katje was chasing Crystal (alpha cat) and Tiger (bravo cat) was chasing Katje through the house the other day and knocked Dorothy’s lap top to the floor.  It was 1 week after the insurance ran out and the lap top landed on the corner of the screen busting the LED display.  So we picked up another lap top, 12 months same as cash….

Good Evening Gang!

We are just home from our "night out" at our favorite Greek restaurant. Spent a whopping 30 $ on two nice meals with all the works, a bottle of wine and a bottle of Evian. There are 15 restaurants in our town, but we usually end up going to this Greek place or an Asian restaurant, which serves a variety of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. The few German restaurants are just boring. Petra welcomed not to spend time in the kitchen today, as temperatures surpassed the 90 F mark. In our apartment, the temperature is not much lower... Sigh

Petra and I would like to say thank you for all the good wishes on the occasion of our anniversary. Those 28 years have seen a lot of ups and downs, actually more downs than ups. Our love was and still is strong enough for us to make it through the bad times we are in. Petra is for me a "one in a million" gal, and I am just happy to share my life with her. I do feel bad about not being able to offer her a more comfortable life and a little more security.

Blessings, especially to Garry with his upcoming surgery!

Yesterday was one of those days where we were on the go all day long, and at the end, really didn't see much accomplished. Oh well, it was enjoyable anyway. We started off with breakfast at our local diner, then went on to do a lot of errands of no grat importance. But it's nice that they are all out of the way and no longer on the to do list. Finished up by going across town and having dinner at the Golden Corral Buffet. It was our first time there, and we thought it was very good. At only $20.50 for the two of us, I'm sure we will be going back.

We had some serious thunderstorms here over night. Right now it's hot and humid. They are predicting the possibility of severe storms with wind gusts possible in the 60 to 70 mph category. Okay boys and girls, can you spell "power outages again."

On the train front, I ordered a nice display case for the Aliquippa & Southern SW1200 I got at the train show this past weekend. And I'm waiting for delivery of a Con-Cor Galloping Goose that I ordered. It doesn't fit into my Western Pennsylvania collection, but they are so neat that I con't care. I did stop at a hobby shop while we were out and picked up a couple sections of flex track and some solder with the intent of improving my soldering skills. Or lack thereof. Got home only to find that my track saw has apperantly left town without leaving a forwarding address. Someday one of my projects is all going to fall into place without any snags. Of course, I will be so stunned when that happens, that... well, you know.

My wife is getting around much better now with the ankle brace, so we are going to try to attend the Civic Light Opera this coming Sunday. She has season tickets, but we have had to give them away until now. There are 2 shows left, and hopefully she will be able to attend both. Although her vision is pretty limited, she still enjoys the live music. All those in need have our very best wishes.   Tom

QUESTION: Do you think using a Bug Bomb in a train room would have any adverse effects on the layout or (more importantly) the model trains?

I've never known it to. The track may need to be cleaned afterward.

Garry: Best of luck to you on your upcoming operation.

There was a bit of a derailment in Knutsville this morning. A gon picked a turnout and triggered a stringline derailment. On the bright side the shelf couplers didn't come uncoupled.

Mornin' evryone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of organic Pumpkin Flax Granola with a pile of fresh blueberries on top to go along with the dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug please!

Muggy this morning here in the Finger Lakes, but we got some good serious rain last night!  I never heard a thing so I doubt any major thunderboomers crossed Geneva.  We did get a little over 1.1 inches of precipitation last night and they say more is on the way for today.  Farmers around here are overjoyed as the corn crop is just setting ears........  My prayers for those in severe drought areas not getting any rain.......  Currently 76°F with a high in the upper 80s this afternoon.

I have a good many items I would like to get taken care of today, so I best be moving.

Later!

Ulrach & Petra ...... Happy anniversary.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and scrambled eggs with cheese, couple strips of bacon, hashbrowns and a biscuit with strawberry preserves please. Thanks.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 100. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Hoping the 50% turns out to be more than just a sprinkle for 2 minutes like it has all year.

Hm. Internet is running a bit slow today here. Once I get on the site all is well, but getting to the site takes a long time. Same on IE and Chrome. If it was the cable or IP servers or whatever, you'd think changing pages on a site would be as slow. Apparently not. Maybe the internet got bigger and it takes longer to get there.

Garry- Good news on the checkup. Will switch gears on the prayers now for a successful and safe operation.

Ulrich- Happy Anniversary!!!! Enjoy your night out and reflect on all the good things you two have experienced. Try not to think of recent evnts but only in the context of it proves how strong your love for each other is and you both made the right choice with each other. Your love for each other is the one thing the ecomony can not take away. Enjoy my friend.

Welcome Florida Rocks!!

Don’t know what I’ll do today. Yearly stockholders meeting for the elevator is this eve so I might just do some laundry. AND since my laundry machines are located near the trainroom in the basement as is Ray’s, like him I may just do a little cleanup in that there room. Never know. Of course there are some other things I need to do as well. Probably more. No, more like definately more. Like clean and rearrange a few things in the garage that have creeped (I know it’s crept, but I say creeped and I like it.) towards the center making it almost impossible to get in the passenger door of Brenda’s new car being as it’s a two door now. Speaking of that, the car, went to dealership yesterday and got the rear spoiler installed so it now looks complete to meYes. Just looks like they are missing something without out one. They said about two hours and two hours later, they said they were done and off I went. Personaly, I think it sat for an hour and a half. Two screws and a couple pieces of double stick tape. A few years ago I’d a put it on myself and saved some bucks. Now $119 seemed worth it. Surprised they didn’t wash it better though. Probably didn’t have time in the two hoursWhistling. No matter I was gonna wash it anyway to get the 8 plops of bird pooey poo off from when it sat outside for 3 minutes the other day.  I hate that tree.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning. It's 78° with 93% humidity. The high will 92° but will feel like 103°. There's a small chance of rain.

I discovered yesterday that my double stack car doesn't like the elevated curves. As long as the train is moving it's OK but if it stops with that car on a super-elevated curve over it goes. I'll cut it down to a single row of containers and see what it does. Other than that there's nothing planned for today.
