Afternoon Folks!

Going to try to make it in here more often!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

We harvested more tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers on Sunday, and our little homestead is growing every day! The weeds especially!

Hey, did you all catch the Norfolk Southern heritage units all gathered at the NC Transportation Museum several weeks ago in Spencer, NC?

Ryan! ..... Great to see you! ... Sorry to hear the weak economy is affecting you and Monique. A lot of people are affected. .... Still selling spices? ... Yes, it's very sad about Ed. ... News at this end: I'm having surgery for my heart again in a few days, and I will be resting all of August. ... Almost lost Shelley to a choking accident last month, but I used the Heimlick to clear a bite of steak from her windpipe. It took four squeezes. Scary. Now, she is my "main squeeze". ... Ryan, please have other regulars chime in at the diner if you are emailing them. .. I hope you can find time for a little model railroading. The hobby is a great sanity break.

Hey Garry, good luck with the heart surgery…again! Hope you pass with flying colors! Sorry about Shelley, I love me some steak too, but have to watch that beef sometimes! Glad you were able to save her.

Good Morning All: Silver Spike, it’s good to see you back and good to hear things are doing better for you.

Thanks Lee! Hope you are doing well!

Ryan, It is good of you to stop by. I miss your recipes that you shared regularly. I am thinking about the laundry soap. Does it keep well. The economy has been hard for most. It seems that we are doing more for the same or less $$$$. I am glad to hear that you can see daylight at the end of the tunnel. (To use a railroad term). Don't be a stranger.

Howdy Sue,

I keep the laundry soap in a reused 5 gallon bucket with the lid closed on top. The buckets are given to us from a friend of ours gives us who works at Target, the buckets originally store frostings for the bakery.

Yup, daylight is getting brighter with every day!

And, here is a recipe since you mention it! Yukon Gold Potatoes

Also did a couple more feet of hand cut, creosoted (stained), and laid ties in place.... The track I am doing now is on the left. The photo was taken about half way down the line. What you see is over 6' in length.

Howdy Ray, you got some great progress going on your layout!

Ryan- Glad to hear from you again! Sorry about the economy hit, but I’m glad you’re still clawing away.

Hello Todd! Thanks man! Keep us posted on your flooring progress! I recollect a flooring job I did about 8 years ago!

Ray, I think that 427 only counts CSX related deaths on the tracks.

Galaxy, I bought peppers and onions for Italian Sausage for tonight’s dinner myself.

Gary, we have a problem with “train assisted suicides” out here.  I guess some people don’t care what the train crew has to cope with….

Paul, just hop a train, as long as you don’t have to go through Chicago you should be there in time.

Ulrich, sorry to hear your having some pain issues.  Surgery might be a good thing to look into.

Delray, welcome to the diner.  I thought the Delray Connecting Railroad was Conrail, not C&O????

Hi delray1967! First of all, welcome to the diner, and all that jazz. Next, do you have a layout? If so, what scale? Prototype? DC or DCC?

Nice weather here today if you're a lizard. Mostly sunny and 94° with a heat index of 108°. Humidity is down to 55%. I'll stay inside where it's 69°. Nothing happening on the layout aside from a little cleanup.

Evening in the diner.
Posted by galaxy on Monday, July 30, 2012 4:37 PM

well, well

According to the local weather man, there were 24 tornados confirmed inthe month of JUly here in the USA. guess what? 5 of them were here in the Binghamton area! What one has to understand is that we are NOT a "flat as a pancake zone"...in fact we are very very hilly...with mountains and such surrounding our valley. Tornadoes don't usually do well in hilly terrain as the hills bounce the funnels back up into the sky. That is aobut 21% of all tornados happened here!

Chopping my onions and peppers now..will sautee in an hour in anticipation of MOH coming home at 7:15.

FIL wants chocolate Ice cream brought by MOH on the way home from work, but I have no way of getting a hold of MOH as work doesn't allow such phone calls! I get out of doing the running as I am not an authorized user of the FIL's CC!

WEll, I have laundry going too...so off I go.

Welcome delray1967 and pascaff!!!! Thanks for stopping in! here we can talk about anything NOT religious, political or other "flame topic" and it doesn't have to be MRRing-related! talk about your day or what is going on..this is  a "blog type" of space!

Have a great evening guys...and do somehting nice for your special someone!

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer pleases, but just a dozen or so! Whistling

Sorry I did not drop by Sunday, felt like caboose most of the day. Started out the day by not having any coffee and it was down hill from there.

Vince's What you need to get the stripe's off is called a 3M Stripe Off Wheel, here is a link.

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHKN5_UfDik

I have not watched the video. I have used them a lot and they work pretty darn good! Toughest job I did with one was a 1983 SS Monte Carlo. I was able to get all of the old stripe's off with out damaging the paint and re-stripped it.

Today was another Hurry Up And Waite Day. Got up at 6:00 AM to get the rest of the paperwork done for the rep of Bank Of Stupid to pick up. Never showed, go figure. Called my Loan Rep, got the machine again. Whistling

Getting the Pick Line Out Day Again, hurry up and wait. I had my last IV drip done by 10:00 AM and called the Traveling Nurse Offices, no orders from the Doctors? Funny, I was told last Wednesday the order was in? Finally had to start my running, got a call from my wife around 3:00 the Nurse would be at the house at 3:15. Made it just in time! Drip Line Is Out! Will kind of miss it, something for the Wife, Wolfhound and I to do together. Shaddy (Wolfhound) would stand beside me to be petted while I was getting the drip.

Work Front Sadly I have to go back to work. Sigh Main reason I say sadly is how little I got done Model Railroad wise. After I was out of the Hospital I had 3 weeks to do things, well I got somethings done. Yet in 3 weeks I should have got a lot of things done done!

Jeffery so far I have not found the wiper motor's I had. I will still keep looking, I know I had 3, two of them where 2 speeds and one 3 speed that I used on the Charger. 3 speed ones lay flat and I need it to clear the Supercharger.

Ulrich Get health my friend! After I win the Lottery I plain on working your butt off!

Barry and Gary Hope you guys have as good as luck Health Wise's as I have had.

New Folks Welcome to the dinner! Welcome

See you all later, time to break down a freight train.

Afternoon guys

Not much going on for me. The weather can't make up it's mind wether or not it wants to rain or shine. It was nice early today, then it stormed, now it's nice again. I could go primer the GP5 cabs, but it's still wet out.

Lee, I don't know how the igintion system on those cars works, but I'd wager it's something in them.

Ken, That could work, best part is I'm not really worried about the paint (kind of rough gloss black) as much as the fiberglass itself. I wat to repaint the spare wing flat black.

Ray, I wonder how many of those road deaths were caused by "distracted" driving?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evenin' folks!

Janie a nice tall glass of lemonade would suit me well right at the moment!

Packer

Ray, I wonder how many of those road deaths were caused by "distracted" driving?

Vincent, while it didn't say where I found the info. I would bet a very high percentage.  Especially true if you include DWI and DUI in the total.  Seems like every traffic fatality I see in the local news (Rochester and Finger lakes) is related to those factors or falling asleep or being just plain stupid like the guy who just killed a well liked Science Teacher in the Rochester area.  He decided to roar past his girlfriends car on the right hand side and hit the teacher who was riding a bicycle.  He is still on probation for DWI and shouldn't have been on the bike at all!  He is charged with Manslaughter on this one.

I have been catching up on a bit of outside stuff today.  Mowed the lawn (now all the neighbors are or will be out mowing theirs...), trimmed with the string trimmer, and disassembled the remaining part of the old equipment ramp I had on the deck steps.  Now I'm heading back out to see if I can pull up the old metal fence posts in the garden area....

Later!

My mother had to be taken to the hospital today. She's been having some fever issues the past few days and today was so weak she couldn't stand. So an ambulance had to be sent out to pick her up and take her to the ER. Where she goes from there is out of our hands. To say this has the family worried is an understatement.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a glass of iced tea please...  Unsweetened!

Jeffrey, blessings and prayers for your mother and your whole family!

I got all but one steel fence post and one short piece of pipe uprooted where the garden was tonight.  Ground is still very hard in places.  Some more hitting with a maul and a lot of wiggling should get both of them out.  Two of the old railroad ties should be able to be rolled over and away from the dirt they are holding back, but they won't begin to budge.  I will probably drive the truck out there and just back up to the 4 x 4 attached to them and roll then that way.

I also did about 3' more of the ties on the layout during the day too.  They are glued in place with Pliobond which I am now officially out of again.  Will try to pick up another bottle tomorrow.

Tomorrow I get to watch #2 granddaughter for a few hours while her mom and her sister are gone to an eye doctors appointment in Rochester.  The older one got a bad infection in one eye a week ago and was put on some antibiotics for it.  She goes to an eye specialist due to her having Ocular Rosacia.

Barry, keeping you in my prayers for a good report from your doctor!!!  Oh, nice axe!

I think I will head out to bed soon myself.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a couple blackberry jelly donuts please. Thanks.

Sunny and hot, with a high near 98.

Wow. Where did July go? It just got here!

Speaking of Blackberry, Got enough off the blackberry bush this weekend for Brenda to make a delicious Blackberry cobblerStick out tongue. Man was it good. The drought doesn’t seem to have affected THAT bush. Berries could be a bit sweeter though, but Brenda has a tendency to pick a tad early. She’s at war with the birds you know.

Also speaking of Brenda, just got the news. She’s pregnant…Whistling….no just kidding. Actually come to think of itHmm, after two kids, it’s not funny at all. Anyway, her hand has been numb off and on for a few weeks now. Well, not the whole hand, mainly the pinky and ring finger half. Couple months really. She went to neurologist and he determined she will need surgery on her elbow area to move a nerve. I guess like a car, if the wire runs in a bad spot, just move it. She also has a mild case of carpel tunnel vision, but he wasn’t worried about that. The elbow thing he says he wants done in the next couple three weeks because she has already lost muscle mass in her left hand. We didn’t notice until he pointed it out and she can’t grip hardly nothing with that hand anymore. He says she’ll get a “claw hand” if she don’t. Should be a easy one he says. He said "eat big breakfast, have surgery, be home for drink at night." Any surgeon even a general one can do but he prefer her to have a neuro surgeon considering what it is. I say of course. Keep the money in the family. But then again, I wouldn’t really feel comfortable having my electrical system worked on by a body man. No offense Ken.

Lee- Oh yes, yes, yes. That’s right, I remember now. You have this not the first time. I understand the mechanics point. My diagnostic thing is not made any more and the last update I have is like 2003 or 4 and I am not gonna get another. Cost too much. Specially when many times it says nothing is wrong. Well that, and the fact I don't w**k on cars anymore. What gets you is the initial seems like waste of money. For years after a car is made it’s under warranty so a mechanic buys his update and it sits unused for several years.

Jeff- First, let me say your Mother is in my prayers. As for your comment about finding things later, that is exactly the way it works for me and the reason I have like six hacksaws, 2- 2ft levels, I don’t know how many caulking gunsConfused….4, maybe 7? And six tape measures for just an example. Course the tape measures are stationed in carpenter belt, trainroom, one in each tool box, in truck console as well as kitchen drawer, so I guess they were actually “added to” for convenience rather than couldn’t find, but you know what I mean.

Ray- Like I was telling Jeff, every time I get a caulk gun I say well at least I’ll know where to put this when I’m done. When I get home I’ll just put it with the other 532 I’ll findConfused. I don’t even wanna think how many utility knife blades I have…….somewhere.

Back to Floor Wars Part…. I Lost Track. Guess Brenda doesn’t have to be home for that little stuff that slows me down to happenSigh. Maybe today will be….. DOWP! Nope. Gotta put the deliveries away this morn, let the Saints out at noon and then w**k this eve. I suppose I can weasel some stuff in between.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning, Diners.  I will have a quick coffee before heading to the pool, Chloe.

Garry,  Wednesday is a good day for surgery.  Everyone will be more alert than a Monday.  You will be in our thoughts here at the diner.  Check in when you can.

Ryan,  The recipe sounds great.  I never thought of dill.  My recipe uses cream cheese, garlic, and dried cilantro or Italian parsley.  Bake the mashed potatoes until brown.  If allowed to cool, it is better the next day when it is reheated.  It is like twice baked potatoes.

We did operations on our own layout Sunday afternoon.

 Morning Dinners

Flo, Coffee and keep them coming.

Got up early to get ready for work. Bread is a mess and we know I have to have a neatly trimmed beard at work! Today will be the first day I will have stood for more than 15 minutes in the last month.

Today's high will be 100 Degrees Great, just what I need on my first day back.

With all the folks or here family members here with health problems maybe we should rename the joint to Elliot's Hospital Dinner. Getting old is not for the faint of heart.

Jeffery and Todd hope for the best for your love ones. Berry, pulling for you as well. Hope you get some good news Wednesday.

Got a few things to do before I get ready. I will drop by after work.

Everybody .... I am apprensive about my heart surgery tomorrow morning. I read all your remakrs in recent days, and I thank you for them.....  Means a lot to me.

Hi Garry - Tomorrow there will be an extra prayer candle lit for you! DO let us know as soon as you can after your surgery how you are...stop in just to say "i'm alive" even if you don't feel like talking.

Take care, and follow Dr.s orders and enjoy the "good drugs" while they last to keep you out of pain!

Good Morning !

Just a quick coffee please Chloe.

Garry, I'll  be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping for the best possible outcome.

Well must run as I have to take my wife out to see an anethesiologist. She has some issues with some drugs and he wants to see her before her colonoscopy next week.

Oh, and Ryan, great to see you back and I hope there are many more visits soon!

Good morning. It's 83° and already feels like 90°. The humidity is at 77%. The high will be 98° and the heat index will be around 110°.

Nothing much to report today. I have laundry washing. I may do some layout work later depending on how I feel then. Don't feel good right now.
