Just got a phone call from the Hearing Center. My "devices" have arrived so I will go over and pick them up in a few minutes. Today is the school Budget vote and I have to pick up my Diabetes Meds at the drug store.
A dull gray day here in the Finger Lakes this morning. Could have a few thunderboomers (isolated) this afternoon. Currently 64°F with a high of 70° this afternoon. No breeze at all out there this morning and as Galaxy said, very high humidity.
I will have a very busy day today finishing everything possible for the MLK Dinner. I am always glad when it is over, but do very much enjoy the w*rk I do with them..... I always feel good when I see the kids get the awards and even better when I hear how many of them have found both success and happiness in their lives!

Tom, I am all so sorry to hear about your wife health problems!
Looks like I lost another F unit. Other day I oiled my Monon PK 3's (so they would last longer?) and I am guessing I got to much oil on the shaft and fouled the brushes. Light comes on but I have to crank the speed up to full power to get it to craw. Going to try a decoder reset but I am not to hopeful.

Ken: Got some CRC 2-26? Spray some (doesn't take much) on the commutator (if you can get to it) and turn the motor about ten or twelve full revolutions by hand then put the current to it. The CRC should clean the oil out of the brushes. Bad thing about some can motors I've worked on is you can't get at the brushes easily. I've had it up to the hairline with Beuhler motors. They used to be really good but lately every one I've seen is crap. I haven't had any problems with Proto Power West motors.

Went to town this morning with $40 in my pocket. Used $20 at the Office of Motor Vehicles to renew the Firefighter license plate on my van for two more years. I may not work on the trucks anymore or help at fires but I still help out at the station with training when I can. Plus they didn't have the heart to pull my membership when I retired and let me keep my badge. I've been there so long that when the badge was issued the number on it was #3. We didn't even have a station back then, just a box full of papers and training manuals. The station was built in 95 I believe. That sounds about right as I'd recently purchased a Pontiac Sunbird. Well, enough on the past. After wrapping up my business at the OMV I went to the New Llano post office and spent $7 sending off a package. From there to the gas station to spen the remaining $13 on gas. A whole 3.439 gallons. That'll last about a week in the back and forth between here and the parents place. I received two nice looking coins in the mail today. They're just gold layered proofs. One is a 1854-S Double Eagle and the other is a 1933 Saint-Gaudens $20 commemorative. It's my introduction to the $100 million American Gold Classics collection. I don't know yet whether I want to keep them or send them back. I have two weeks to think about it.

CRC works great for contact cleaning. I used that as a Signal Maintainer on the contacts in crossing gates. It will also clean the oil off of everything else including places where you want oil so a person should be careful with how much used and where it goes.
Afternoon guys
Work went fairly smooth. Kinda slow at first but buisness was booming by mid day. I gave a ride home to one of the 2 few girls at work that I find attractive (I'm kind of picky, lol). We didn't really get along at first, but now we tease each other all the time.
Here's pics of some of the trains I was messing with yesterday.Changed the trucks on my C425s.Put an atlas SD24 cab on a P2K Geep. I had to modify a high-nose numberboard to fit into the cab numberboard. Still have some more cutting of the nose and the cab front (des plaines window insert) to get it right.
Jeff, is that the SD27J you made from the SD24 you got from me?

We had a big outdoor project in recent days .... replacing plugged storm drains with new ones. .. Rented a small track hoe made by Bobcat which weighs about 8,000 to 9,000 pounds. It is like a big Tonka toy.

Calling it a night early tonight. It's been a busy day for me. My van is legal for two more years. Also performed preventive maintenance on the GP9m Frankenlocos and the Frankenstein F unit trio. Hard to believe that big heavy trio is run through three tiny Z Scale decoders. They've had a lot of running lately so it was time for a light lube job. I also brought the GP38 and SD27J out for a run. See y'all tomorrow.

I think I am going crazy... completely and utterly crazy....... After completing all the printing for tomorrows Scholarship dinner, I ventured down cellar to the layout. I finished fitting and installing the second half of a crossover that connects to a locomotive escape track that will also serve a dairy near the yard.... After making all the cuts and making sure everything was going to go together correctly, I glued the turnout in place, soldered a couple places as needed and moved on to putting the rail in place below the first turnout of the pair. I got a 3' length of rail, did some quick measuring and cut it the proper length to go to the end of the yard. The piece I needed was about 15" so I had the other section of the same rail which I would cut the piece from to complete the track later set aside. Did the usual marking of exactly where each rail will go, put on the pliobond and set the rail in place, moved the railjoiner to join each rail, and proceeded to use my 25w soldering iron to heat treat the rail on the pliobond. Then I soldered all the PC ties to rail. I looked at my watch and I had plenty of time to finish the job so I went to grab the other piece of rail to get it ready.... GONE! Nowhere in the rooms that the layout is in.... Gone, Disappeared, VANISHED!!! I spent 45 minutes looking for it! I even got on my hands and knees and crawled around the floor with a light trying to see where it went to.... It must be with the scale ruler I have been looking for! Absolutely weird!
The roofer showed up just before dinner with the color chart I have been waiting for. I spent some time walking around the house and checking the possibilities. Finally decided on a couple colors I think will work with the color of the siding and the wood on the wall by the deck. Later I heard my next door neighbor out mowing lawn. Checked and it was the wife out mowing, so I went over and showed her the color chart, and she liked the same two colors I did. Her favorite was the same one I was leaning towards. The guy across the street was outside so I went over and asked him. He also thought of the same color, his girlfriend picked the other one.... I do want to keep the neighborhood happy and not have them all hate whatever I choose you know. So the choice for the new metal roof will be a color called Buckskin. It is a dark Tan or light Brown color. Should blend in nicely with the other roofs here.
I was surprised that each of the neighbors are also thinking of putting on Steel roofing. And one is also looking at Solar Electric Panels on their roof as well. She is a High School Science Teacher and very interested in Renewable energy just as I am. I started the ball rolling to look into solar panels as well tonight. NYSEG Solutions contracts with a company to do just that and I have them looking into costs and recommendations. It will be about a year before I would be ready to have anything installed I think. At least the roof will be ready for it. I read that if Solar energy is something you are likely to add on your roof, the best way to go is Steel as it will last for 50 or more years. Solar panels have a life expectancy today of 40 or more years, and if you put on an asphalt based roof with a life of 25 years.... You will have to pay to have the solar panels removed before the new roof goes on and then have to pay to have them all reinstalled. The lifetime of the steel roof more than justifies the increased cost anyway.

This weekend was too nice to work indoors. I had started a water proofing project on the west side of the house. To cover up the clay fill I dumped 10sqft of miracle grow garden soil and planted 4 flats of marigolds. Monday AT$T installed U-verse at the house. My internet speed went from 1.64Mbps to 11.56Mbps down. My bill will be $88 cheaper. Went to the hospital for the first series of test and dropped off my 24-hour urine sample and two nurses drew 11 full vials of blood and 1 small vial. I thought they were going to turn me upside down and smack my feet to get the last few drops, like a bottle of ketchup.

Funeral went well. Very nice. Only one of the two cousins in question showed up drunk. Both girls, women, no let’s just say they’re female. These two are sisters of four and the Black Sheep of the Black sheep. Now the family is worried she will cause problems by breaking in to MIL’s house and steal stuff. I asked why do they call you, your sister is the Executor and responsible to keep things protected. Didn’t really get an answer on that so I let it drop.
Barry- Funny light bulb stuff and I can testify to the accuracy of the Labrador’s response.
Flip- Tell Deb good luck and she is in my prayers.
Not much going on today for me othern the same odds and ends to get caught up and back on track. Brenda will of course go in to MIL’s house and they are gonna start boxing things up and going through things. Gonna be a weepy day for them.

Well, I went to the grocery store as I do every Wednesday. BUT, I had to call in my strong pain killers and forgot to take them. SO about 10 mins into shopping I was in agony. Then I remembered I had some in my bag of goodies I always carry, so I got a bottle of water and opened it to take them. aobut 10 minutes later I felt some relief, that quickly. I hate opening a package until I have paid for it, but I could have just left my cart right there and paid for the water and left to go sit down.
I got through the check out counter quickly as a front end supervisor opened just to take my order. Thank goodness for carry-out boys! MOH was home when I got home so carried everything in.
My back was already tweeked form the rain we had yesterday, adn adding shopping while NOT under the influence of muscle relaxer and pain killer added to the toll it was taking on my back.
Speaking of MOH, was asked to stay and work a bit after clockout time last Saturday, which then meant working 6.25 hours. FOr the extra .25 hours meant taking a .5 lunch break! which the dept manager didn't allow MOH to take. SO dept, manager got called on it and had to suspend MOH for todays work. See if one works over 6 hours here in NY they have to have a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break and a paid 15 min break. We have caught on to tricky manuevers by management to catch and write up and suspend any employee for such by oftenly scheduling them for 6.5 on a day. THEn they fail to take or fail to be given a break and WHAMMO! tehy got ya. MOH is seething right now.
Well, I shall go rest my b ack in bed now. I have put off other errands until tomorrow.

I guess it's still morning. I slept in until 10 AM. In my defense I was exhausted when I got home from w**k this morning at 12:30 AM and the animals woke me up at 5:15 AM with scratching on MOH's closet door. I usually get up around 8 AM but not today. It's very overcast and dark outside so I am finding it hard to get motivated to do anything. Saying that, I need to do my laundry and vacuum the floor. I also want to put my diesels into the new engine area since I finished the ground cover yesterday and cleaned the rails afterwords.
Barry- That's pretty funny about the dogs.
Ulrich- Neat plane.
Phil- Prayers for Deb and you. I can feel your anxiety after going through it in January. I really hope this fixes the problems Deb has been having.
