Good Morning Modelers!!!

It's a gray and foggy this morning and they say we might see some wet stuff this weekend.  Right now for that is mostly good news as long as we don't get too much to fast.  I'm sure some of you like Jeff would love to send it our way and we will be glad to accept it.  Stage 2 of our Window (not widow Embarrassed) replacement project should start Monday so hopefully our house will start getting back together later next week

Well, wouldn't you know it. Wouldn't you just know it! It just HAD to be!!!

I am temporarily VEE-hick-EL-less.

LAst week I got a letter from Kia about a recall for the front suspension coil springs. Seems the protective coating flakes off, and the springs can rust and break. Kia will replace them at no cost to me. SO I called the dealer and had them order the springs last Friday. They were to call me when in so I could set up appointment to repair/replace, but expected TUesday {yesterday}. Well they failed to call so I assumed {you know what that means} that the parts had not come in yet.

Well, today I noticed the inspection sticker was out of date as of last month on my way to Wally WOrld. I forgot it last month. SO I stopped into Firestone to get it inspected, not expecting anything to go wrong, and befoer I get a ticket for expired inspection. Take a WILD guess as to WHICH part caused the inspection to FAIL??????? B-I-N-G-O. The drivers side front coil spring is rusted and broken!!!

So NOW I have a VEE-hick-EL with NO inspection sticker in the front window!!! A cop passing by can easily notice NO INSPECTION siticker in the window!!! SO I cannot drive it. I was LUCKY FIrestone let me leave with it! It would have cost aobut $800-900 for them to fix if I had to have them do it. Free for Kia to do it.

The interesting thing is that HAD I gotten the inspection last month on time, it would have failed, AND I would have had to PAY for it!!! {THEN try to get my money back from Kia!!!}.

SO now, with no inspection sticker, I daren't drive it except to Kia dealer tomorrow to get it fixed Friday.

Wouldn't you JUST KNOW IT???

So I came straight home, put the Kia notice and the failed inspection notice in the glove box SO IF I get stopped, I have proof of what I say, BUT I'll bet I get a ticket for no imspection anyway if I dare to drive it other than to the dealer!!!!

HHHHHAARRRRRUUUMMMMPPPPPHHHHH!!!!!

in other notes...well, nothing I guess. I am steamed a little. Will calm down later.

Geeked.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a Raisin Bran muffin with real butter and a cup dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Oh, and bring over one of those 1lb. chocolate bunnies left over from Easter.  Might as well destroy the sugar readings.......

Todd, I actually can control the hearing aids separately.  The remote can adjust everything I can control and allows me to set each ear separately.  I did find that I still get some strange popping noises if I crinkle paper.....  Will get it removed when I see the Audiologist next.

Galaxy, can't they give you a 10 day temporary sticker?  Maybe they did away with those.....

I see there have been 2 large earthquakes over near Oz.  No Tzunamis they said.  Guess they have to settle for QSI....... Whistling  Prayers for all affected by them.

Have a lot of stuff to do for Saturday still, so I best get moving.

Later!

Good Afternoon!

Tried to catch some sleep, but without success. I am still feeling pretty miserable, I m afraid this will last for a few days.

Warning! Rant ahead!

Heard this on the news: Jobless people, living off social security, should be detained in special labor camps to be made working for their living. Sounds familiar to me. Thought we got rid of that 67 years ago. My alarm bells are ringing - I need to get out of this country! Help!

I am dead serious about this. The social climate in this country has deteriorated to such a degree, that statements like the one can be made without having to fear prosecution. This land is not my land anymore.

Folks like Petra and I live under a constant threat. There is not a day, when we are not subjected to discrimination and infringements on our constitutional rights by government authorities. Unfortunately, there is no lobby for us.

Out of the about 100 job applications I made in the past 8 weeks, there is only one still open, but with little chances of success.  I have lost my faith that things will turn to the better. Should I just pack up and leave? I don´t want to be an illegal alien, though...

End of rant.

Ray - glad you like your new "ears".

Well, The guy at Firestone did tell me I had 10 days to rectify the situation, but the only proof of failed inspection is the paper from them. No temp sticker! The sad thing is when I called the Kia dealer the parts WERE in..they just had not called me.....Lets all HOPE it gets fixed totally Friday!!!

I have heard on the news that the waves in Indonesia and such areas have not been major..just "reaching a few feet high"......well, 2-3 or 4-5 foot waves can STILL cause problems!!!

Hmmph. Still a little steamed.

Soon to go get free bread and the mail...

Good Afternoon

Well, everything is fine on the friend front..he is expected to make a full recovery.

This afternoon I managed to get some of the layout cleaned up of all the junk that accumulated on it..we have this habit it appears that any horizontal surface becomes storage for other stuff..usually not associated with the layout itself...Hmm..now I can actually see what it is I am supposed to do hereConfused

Back from Alexandria. My mother is doing much better. She's able to sit up on her own and feed herself. She's been moved back to a regular room. She doesn't miss ICU at all. Can't blame her there. She's not able to walk yet and is suffering dizzy spells when she tries to stand. The good news is she hasn't scalped anybody yet! Of course she's not able to get out of bed yet either. The nurse said it's possible she has a staph infection and she's getting vancomycin for that. At that point I told my father it was time to leave. I have open wounds and I DO NOT need to be around someone who has staph no matter what the relation. By then it was a little after one. He and I stopped at a pizza place and tied into a medium deep dish pizza. Meat lovers of course. Got home to fine a new DVD set from the history channel in my mail box. Titanic, The Complete Story. Death of a dream, The legend lives on and Titanic's Achilles heel. I'll watch it and decide whether I want to keep it or not.

Coffee in a  APACHE RAILWAY  mug, please.

***Jeffrey, that's good news about you mother's improvment. I would not have predicted it from what you first said. Some old gals are pretty tough.

***Ray, is there an adjustment on the hearing aid to help you differentiate between our voices and those only in your head? Kidding aside, Congrats on the new electronics!

My broken toe seems to be doing OK so far. Did get a couple minor stabbing pains today, so I might redo the bandage, just to take a look at it. Cut out an old shoe with velcro straps so I can get around a bit better.

Mini video cam is at the PO, so hopefully soon I can shoot something down in the train room to share with y'all.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Here are a few pictures of grandkids who visited here during the past 10 days.

Detroit grandkids are the youngest on our deck...

Grand Rapids kids "hanging out" on our deck.

Cincinnati grand daughters at Trail of Tears Memorial Park in Hopkinsville.

The last picture was taken before we read the signs to the girls and explained to them the significance. So the the youngest (red top) was still hamming it up as she often does being a very happy-go-lucky child.

The signs explain the story of Trail of Tears. It is a horrible story about Cherokees who suffered during their relocation in the 1830's as dictated by the government. Thousands died. The park includes graves of two chiefs who died near Hopkinsville. Native Americans visiting have placed their headbands or other personal items at the graves. Some of those items are on a fence to the left of the picture. The graves are back there. The city hosts an annual Pow Wow for the Cherokees, and it is well attended by Native Americans and others.

When our grand daughters gained a better understanding, they picked some flowers from another part of the park and brought them to the grave to place them there. They did that on their own with no suggestions to do that from adults.  They were sad to hear the story of Trail of Tears.

Evening All,

Just got back from Cracker BarrelDinner. Today I weathered 17 box cars and 6 tank cars. Tomorrow I have 18 cars left to do, mainly reefers and a MOW consist.

Ken- Hope your broken toe heals quickly with a minimum of pain.

Jeff- Great news on your Mom.

Ray- Glad you like your electronics. That would be awesome to do in Wally World...you would fit Right in.

Garry- Saw a ad online fore the new BLI CB&Q passenger cars. Sounds like it's tailor made for you. You only need the money for themWhistling

Galaxy- Hope you get your car fixed quickly and without a hassle.

Ulrich- There are people like that everywhere not just in Germany. I think it is a sign of  the times. Sorry your job hunt is not going well.

Barry- If you are cleaning off your layout you should be able to run some trains.

Hope everyone has a good night. Prayers for those in need.

Good Evening,

A cool day here but at least it isn't below freezing as it was yesterday. I must admit I find it rather funny when Curt says a cool front is coming through and the temp is only 78.

Mr. B, hope you have a good trip back home and I agree, going home is never much fun. I have enjoyed your posts about Florence and Venice. We went to both in June/88 and took the train too but it certainly didn't look like that one. One of my fondest memories is riding down the Grand Canal in a motoscafi. We felt like royalty in the back of that beautiful mahogany launch. One of the most expensive taxi rides I've ever taken but worth every penny.

Not much new on the train front. I've been running my HO passenger and am having fun. I don't care if those Athearn heavyweights hang over a little on the curves. Today I got lucky and scored an Intermountain F7 in CP maroon and grey with sound for only $97. I think they made a mistake on the price. It was on the site this morning so I ordered it at lunchtime and I see that none of the CP ones are still showing.  I plan on selling an Athearn RS3 which I don't run all that much.

Todd, I think it is time you returned to Toddland. If you don't your crown will be usurped. Who knows who is running your tourist trap town, could be the mob. Better get back down there and straighten thinks out. If Brenda gives you a hard time just tell her you have new priorities. Oh, and good luck.

We were in Thief River Falls over the weekend. I got to fill up on that cheap gas. Only $4 a gallon for premium!

Ulrich, it isn't all that much different here. There are often calls in the press to require anyone on assistance to do community work such as street cleaning. It won't happen as it would cost more to implement than the assistance paid so it won't happen but still it is unsettling.

Well, not much else to report. I guess I lead a boring life but I don't mind as some forms of excitement I can do without. I am amazed at how well some of you cope with many different problems so boring must mean everything is ok.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a cup of decaf for me at the moment.  I'll be in the back by the stove warming up for a bit.

41°F outside at the moment with a low of 35° overnight.  Better than below freezing and much more typical for this area tyhis time of year.  My Asparagus is up...  By Sunday I should be able to cut the first stalks.  Fresh Asparagus right from the garden!  Yes!  i also have to find time to finish weeding the herb garden where it grows!

I think I finally have everything printed we need for the Meet on Saturday.  The Layouts for the afternoon are all set and the presenters set to go....  I have to order a sheet cake tomorrow morning to celebrate our 50 year anniversary, 1962 to 2012.  50 years of Model Railroading.  Will will be also giving away 5 free NMRA Rail Pass memberships to some lucky guests and raffling off a NYC Lantern.  There will be a Popular Choice Model Contest and a photo contest during the morning also.

Ken, so how did you break your toe?  (kidding....)

Curt,  THAT is one more reason I don't patronize Mall Wart.....  LOL

Prayers for all in need!  Hope you all have a good night!

I saw a wicked special today that I'd love to model.  It was one of those times I saw something so fast that I couldn't get the camera out.

A pair of CSX units, a 60' flat with no load,...and then what was clearly a 15" naval gun barrel on an 89' flat.  I have no idea where it came from or where it was going but it was definitely naval artillery.  It had some serious cribbing around it and it had clearly seen some years stored outdoors.

WEll.

The MIL is still in the hospital.

BUT: at 6:20 AM this morning the FIL calls wanting MOH to come over right away, he is not feeling well.

I told MOH not to hesitate to call 911 for him if the situation is bad....so Both could be in the hospital here shortly.

He has had trouble s in the with falling BP.. and he didn't say on the phone except "get here fast". He is ALWAYS lax on calling for an ambulance {"they cost money"}

Had I been dressed I would have gone too...

SO PRAYERS Angel for BOTH my FIL and MIL...and prayers for MOH who has to have th patience of an angel through this.

I suspect if we loose one of them the other will go fast, particularly if FIL goes first.

SO PRAYERS WILL BE GREATFULLY RECEIVED.

Thankyou

Geeked

LATER EDIT: FIL is only heavily constipated..he always gets this way and he won't learn to take Fiber like Metamucil every day! We wish he'd learn! WHen he gets constipated, he can't go either way, so fiber added to his diet will HELP! The he could pee also!  DUH!

OOOOOOOOOOHK…LA-homa where the wind comes whipping down the lane where th….Sorry. G started it.

Good Morning!!! Coffee and a waffle please with reeeeal maple syrup thank you.

Widespread frost before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 62. South wind between 3 and 11 mph, with gusts as high as 17 mph.

Curt- Oh. Second try. Well that explains it. I’ll show you my second try someday if the guys don’t disable my photo account first to stop that from happening. Again. Took me two weeks to get the thing back last time they did it.

Ray- So….Hmm You can turn down the volume….from your pocket. Without having to pretend to oh, say, scratch your earMischief. Brilliant. THAT alone should be worth the price of admission.Laugh

Charlie’s trying to get me killedIndifferent. “tell Brenda I have new priorities” Do you want me to just hand her the gun too? No seriously Charlie I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Tourist Trap town has been taken over by the mob. At least a place for their spider henchmen to live. There is a saloon you know. I’m just about to a point where I believe I can start splitting my time up some. I have a few odds and ends yet inside, not to be done, but to get to a normal point so to speak, and some things outside that are normal spring cleanup stuff and then….I should be able to spend some time periodically in the train room like normal. First is to get to the point where I can even see the layout. Like Barry’s, it’s got plenty of flat places and of course if the layout didn’t have enough room, there was always the floor.

Didn’t mow the grass yesterday because about 9 am the doorbell rang and it was the Tru-Green guy to do the weed-n-feeed. Says no mowing until today. We’ll tryer agin today and see what happens.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning. It's 58°F/14°C and partly cloudy. The high will be 82°F/28°C and there's a 20% chance of rain this afternoon.

This morning my father and I will be working on the Peerless tractor to find out what happened to the drive line. Did it throw a belt or drop a gear? There's three belts in the drive and I'm thinking it threw the belt in the clutch/drive pedal assembly. Won't know until the belly mower and a few other things are out of the way.  I know I'm going to get a pulled muscle or two out of this. Nothing about that old tractor is light.

Got some errands to run this morning then back to weathering cars. Tomorrow I start 5 days at w**k covering 72 hours on shift. The weather is supposed to be mid 80's all week.

Ken- I could of sworn I read that you broke your toe last nightWhistling Guess not.

Galaxy- Hope your MIL and  FIL will be OKAngel.

Todd- My second attempt at weathering was 29 coal hoppers (done at one time).

Everyone take care and prayers for those in need.
