 Morning Folks

 Flo, Diet Dew Please.

Well I am feeling under the weather again. Not as bad as the day thank goodness.

Far as cutting my hair, if I knew I get a promotion I would have no problem with it. But boy, it sure would show off my thinning hair line! You know 5 years ago I would not mind, after all it would grow back! But now, I am not as sure? Whistling Getting old stinks! Bang Head

Well, think I have something to eat then lay down and take a nap.

Todd,

One of the major issues we face here is the immpossible tangle and costly interminable delays anyone trying to get a green card legally goes through. I speak from ex[perience trying to get three different English mechanics sorted out. the quickest took 5 years and one gave up and moved back at the 4 year mark. There is in my mind no way the Satraps in gov't shouldn't be able to complete an application and preliminary backround check in two years (i.e. before a temp permit expires). Just sayin'  J.R.

Darren .... It is not hard to find U Ky basketball fans in this area. People are going nuts.

At least I only picked CU to win their first game as a few in the office actually pick them to win the whole shooting match Tongue Tied  I need Ohio St, Louisville, and Marquette to win tonight.  I think I'm only going to get two of those tonight...

Columbian coffee in a  SOUTHERN PACIFIC  mug, please.

The following sign hangs down in the bathroom for the train room.

Started up the sports car (excavator) yesterday and dug out the most stumps yet. Today I'll need to rest while the internal boiler is repaired and can once again be fired up. At least some more progress has been made.

Have a great day all.

Good Evening Gang!

A slow day for me! Somehow, I feel like being up to nothing. Looked for hours at the drawing of my boat, but could not figure out how to fabricate those shrouds - Sigh

Just to get my mind of a few things which bug me right now, I started to draw a new track plan. You know, I stiil have that Z scale layout up in our attic. There is no way I can put it up in the train/guest/laundry room. I have a hunch that it will rot away if I don´t do anything with it. My options are 1) selling or 2) disassemble and make something new out of the stuff.

Just an idea - a layout built in three segments:

The drawing is not yet finished, but my eyes are starting to get weary of staring at the screen all day long.

Ken - nice cars!

Ray - Angel for your hearing test.

CUL, Folks!

03/22/12 Afternoon at the diner....
Posted by galaxy on Thursday, March 22, 2012 12:25 PM

Hi all

took over $40 worth of nickel-a-can returnables to the Can redemption center. If you get eht coupon off the back of the register tape of the grocery store chain that offers the discount on gas...then you get 6.5 cents for every can!!! Adds up when you have voer 650 cans/bottles to return that a lot of tonic water {MOH} and no calorie flavored seltzer water cans {me} and individual spring water bottles {me + both}!!!

Todd- Right now gas is definitely over the $4 mark!!! Not just over, or barely over, but OVER.   That $1.30/gallon off 20 gallons I have will certainly come in handy, especially since it shoudl be about $1.50 by the time i fill 'er up!! We have to buy food anyway, and I buy on sale and with coupons etc, so we get good deals. and to save on the gas as well... good thing! {my FIL actually pays for MOH's gas for all the running MOH does for the ILs.}.

WE did other stuff too. errands,,,you know hte boring things you gotta do like pick up a pay check adn bank it and stuff...

WEll, I actually am startting to feel better in my back now. GOod thing. Now how long will THIS dose of nerve injections last??

have a GREAT afternoon!!!

Dinner will eiother be roasted pork and gravy over mshed, or steaks...hmm to decide..

Been to see the doc about my shoulder. Doc says I bent it up and back and if the pressure is right it'll pop it out of socket. It still aches but that's due to pulled muscles. I'm to avoid any heavy lifting for a couple of weeks.

Good Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have a BLT and some cheesey fries, with a RBF, please 'n' thank you!

Think this rain front must be dropping a lot of its stuff further south (somewhere between here and Jeff's place). We're getting rain, but not bunches so far. The weather gurus are saying possibly some thunder here and there, but no severe weather expected out of this. It looked this morning like Garry and all our Diners to the Southeast might possibly get more rain. How's your rainfall so far, guys?

Galaxy, you have a good deal there, with your grocery store and the gas place w**king together like that. Saving $1.50 a gallon on gas sure sounds good. Me, I still have hope (and a third of a tank of gas), so I'm waiting in hopes of even a small drop in the price (though I'm not holding my breath for a $1.50 drop...Whistling).

Ray, let us know how your hearing test goes. Best wishes on your coal dump project. Thumbs Up

I sorta suspect that I might have some minor loss in my left ear (at least, compared to my right ear), but I hear pretty much anything around me. Then again, I didn't get to very many rock concerts in my college years (or before/after). Only one I recall for sure, was Gary Puckett and the Union Gap came to our Naval base (Bainbridge, Maryland) when I was taking some extra training there. The Naval base had some kind of concrete 'bandshell' (like a smaller version of Hollywood Bowl - MUCH smaller...) where the band set up and played. And also, maybe 25-30 years ago, I saw Amy Grant (& Michael W. Smith) play at the ShowMe Center here, which was fairly loud (louder than my wife liked at that time; she bought me/us tickets for a birthday present). So (except for when it's convenient the occasional times, no problems hearing.... Wink That program looks like you did a good job on Sally the cover. (You rascal, you!)Smile, Wink & Grin

Jeff - email received - thanks! How's the water level at your parents' place? I hear you about taking the 'alternate route' - i have two occasions when I will take one of those: when we've had a lot of Storm and when we've had lots o'sn*w and/or ice. Did you need a crane like Bill T. showed, to move that medical emergency off the tracks? Ouch! on your shoulder; hope you get to sleep better tonight! Nice shot of your SW1500 there (I like the 'daylight' one)! I think Darren's got the ticket for you there, about your shoulder! ("Oh darn, Dad, I can't help you move your trailer across the yard today...Gee, Mom, the doctor said I can't do lifting; won't be able to help you rearrange the living room today...")Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken, if you think that the hair length is an issue with your managers (though not with you), you can 'adjust' it some. What about coloring some of the grey in your beard (but not all)? Are the managers mostly younger than you (which could be a factor - or not)? Good that things went better for you at w**k, even if your feet took some wear & tear. As for that getting old thing, I didn't know we had much of an option...WhistlingWink

OzJim, no problem - sounds like you are getting a bunch of rain there. Wow And, sounds like over here, except you're fortunate to not get as many of the tornados (and from stuff I've read, the cyclones do not as much damage because they have less of a vaccuum at their centers). Wikipedia article said the land structures in the middle of the USA contributes to why the Midwest (and a few other areas as well) gets more of the twisters). Zzz Okay, everybody else, you can wake up now! Wink

Todd, you are right on the WalMart/Murphy's thing. Here, if you get a card at Wally's, you get maybe at best, 2 or 3 cents off. Good if you usually shop at WM anyway, but not enough savings to go out of your way for it.

TMarsh
PLUS...she looks good in black.

Yeah, right, Todd - don't go clearing out that "What do we do with this space?" room just yet... Whistling But it does sound like 'Nancy' is pretty conscientious about her job (and there're plenty of other folks I've seen out there who aren't). But careful there with your hornet-nest-stirring, fella! Smile, Wink & Grin

Getting another downpour here now, after it had let up for an hour or so. Hey, so long as we get one good cold snap to kill off any early mosquitoes!

JR, I'd have to agree with you about how slow (any) government agencies can be. I see people coming in to start services with us, who have filed for disability and have an attorney helping them with their case (in Missouri, attorneys or others who assist with a disability claim have a fixed percentage limit of what they can receive out of the initial settlement once the claim is approved), and the attorneys are telling the client that they shouldn't have any job while the claim is pending (not even part-time or temporary). I can sorta understand not wanting to give SS an excuse to turn down the claim, but how the #$%*&^ are the people supposed to cover rent, groceries, utilities, etc. for the two years that it takes the gov't. to decide? Bang Head Okay, I'd better stop now; the soapbox is trying to slide under my feet.

Rob, by "internal boiler" did you mean the house's boiler, or were you talking about yourself?Huh? Good that you're getting some stumps taken care of. Thumbs Up

Ulrich, that layout design looks good - is that for the Z-scale, or your N-scale?

It's payday today, so ran around some to take care of those, and will get some others done online. I also picked up a propane truck and some decals for vehicles, off deBay (only $17-18 total, worth it to me). Tomorrow, I may check the P.O. box to see if the new Quicken CDROM came in (first day they said it could be here). Weather might be clear enough by Sunday or Monday for me to try painting the big double-wide background building (Heritage Furniture), if I can find a suitable color I want to use.

I'll be at the RC for a bit. Might even order a bowl of chili, too - hungry today for some reason.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Jeff - email received - thanks! How's the water level at your parents' place?

Thought you might like those. No rain today so the water level has dropped a lot, about three or four feet. My father and I tipped up the tongue of the boat trailer the Mynah Bird (my mothers 1962 Lone Star ski boat) is on so the collected water in the hull could drain out. The weather guesser says the rains will return possibly Wednesday.

JimRCGMO

Did you need a crane like Bill T. showed, to move that medical emergency off the tracks?

Nope! The 0-5-0 meat hook took care of it nicely. I'm glad I saw that bag when I did. The pushing power of those GP7's was about to be seriously tested.

Hello Ya'll. Thanks Laura, I'll have a diet Coke.

Just had a nice run around my neigborhood and nearby golf course. the best thing about running at the golf course is the steep hills. Not much on the layout front, just operating here and there, waiting to get some stuff fro my birthday in april. Reading an awesome book called "Brotherhood of Warriors." Its a nonfiction book about A jewish teen in Beverly Hills, Califorina who joins the hardest special forces team in Israel. Great read.

Jeff- love the MP15. Always wanted One.

TMarsh- Don't worry about your comments about your asian freinds, wait let me correct that, american freinds. If they are an american citizen all I see is an american. Dosen't matter what you look like to me, and if you want to make a little jest about an american who cares. Us Michiganders  make fun of ourselves all the time. Our saying," Hell frezes over- Lions win the super bowl" the Yoopers do the same thing. As long as its not ment malicisouly I could care less. us americans do funny stuff. So do the french. Chinese. Cubans. If you make a joke in good taste about them, well who cares, don't worry.

Well see everybody.

Doc told me I had a diesase common to young men, "and old men too" he said, " You have Selective hearing" Laugh I hope doc says the same thing to you, good luck.Angel

James - We're to go to Oz this December. When does all the weather fun usually start? First venue will be Eastern Creek then on to Ruapuna in New Zealand if all goes according to plan. We'll use a 40ft container to ship the cars and support equipment and use it as a garage during the trip(s).

December is normally the start of our wet season, although it can be pretty wet thru November. Since I see you're heading to Sydney I'll look into more specifics   Sydney shouldn't be too bad in December, especially western sydney. It's normally pretty dry out there. As for NZ it could have Aussie weather or it could be UK weather, if you know what I mean. Big Smile

Ruapuna is Christchurch, right?  according to Google it is. Wink

Whats the event in December at Eastern Ck? I might come down and have a look! (it's only 1000km.)

James,

It's the Tasman Revival - usually about 200 vintage and historic race cars. We want to bring a Lotus 23 sports racer and a Chevron B-17B formula car. Should be good fun.

Time to head out. Got most of my roll hoop stuff done but need to think a couple of things through before I go to the next step.    CUL, J.R.

Evenin' folks!

Chloe, I'll have the grilled BBQ chicken, and baked potato (with lots of sour cream), and a trip to the salad bar for supper tonight.  Keep my cup filled with decaf if you would my dear.  Thank you!

gabeusmn, I know several people of all ages that suffer from what you had......  They are also those people who would never ever let anything called facts influence their beliefs.....

Had my Hearing Exam earlier today.  Actually the folks over there are very nice and it isn't a bad procedure.... I just always think ity will show I hear even less each time I have it done.  The good news is my hearing hasn't changed at all in the last 3 years...  The bad news is, it hasn't improved at all in the last 3 years either....  Didn't expect it would!  I will be getting the "in the ear" type again as the behind the ear won't do any better with my hearing loss....  Drops off very fast after 4000Hz.  Which is why everyone seems to mumble when they talk to me.Whistling  The other bad news is I interpreted the pricing wrong and thought the total would be just over $5,000 after the discount I got by calling them ($750) when they were advertising nit.  I get the discount but the price quoted to me included the discount...  The good news is I will get a 2% discount on top of THAT for paying cash!  Saves me $115....  So I now have to come up with $5,625 two weeks from now to take the new ones home with me!  I can do THAT by juggling a few funds around....

Also got the new microwave toady...  Sad you can't buy kitchen items today that aren't more complicated than aerospace calculations.  What used to be a simple push a couple buttons now requires several years of calculus to master......

Catch you later!

Evening All,

Flo can I have a cup of Decaf please. Had a very nice meal of slow cooked pork chops.

Had a chance to run a couple of locos (44 T & H10-44) that I don't run very often today. The 44 T really didn't want to do much initially but after about 10 minutes there was no issues with it. I ran my new RS-1 (DC) a little but I am always afraid that I'm going to fry the motor on a DCC system.

Jeff- Take care of your shoulder.

Ray- Is that the cost for a hearing aid or ear surgery?

Everybody take care of yourself.

Evenin'!

Janie just another cup of decaf for me.

Actually decided to check and see if the layout is still where I left it several days ago.....  It was.  Decided to do a little misting of the backdrop before i put the paints and drop cloths away.  This time on an old section where I missed doing the lighter shade near the horizon when I first painted it several years ago. Now at least it looks like the rest of the room.

Curt Webb

Ray- Is that the cost for a hearing aid or ear surgery?

Curt, that is for the pair of hearing aids....  Actually considerably cheaper than the old ones.  The pair I am wearing at the moment were $7.500+ when I bought them close to 8 years ago.  When the technology was brand new for that type of aid (about 15 years ago) they were $7,500 each!  Surgery?  I'd be talking $64,000 for one ear to have an implant...  Not covered at all by insurance as it is an elective procedure.  They would do it anyway as they say us old musicians hate them as everything sounds like an out of tune piano and you have to relearn how to hear....  That is reserved for people who have never heard sounds, best done early in life.

BTW, Curt, I am trying to figure out why you are unloading coal at the coal tower and then reloading the coal into other coal cars on the other track.....????  Just wondering? Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

Evenin' all!

I'll have the ribs and a coke. Gotta love RIBS!

Not sure if y'all made enough posts in the day that I didn't read. Three and a half pages worth? Wow! I guess I'll have to stop in more often.

Ended the week from school early today- no school tomorrow. Teacher's are off doing a retreat or something. A bonus to going to Catholic high school, I suppose?

Regarding GAS prices, I must say they are quite expensive but honestly I can't complain. I'm very lucky to have my aunts 2004 VW Golf hatchback as my car and it gets outstanding mileage. I probably fill up once a month or so, on average. If I do any longer distance driving, say, to go airsofting with my mates, then it does start to rack up a bit of a bill but still, 30 MPG+ from that little VW. And it's a clown car! At one of my band's shows I had to transport our gear and I was able to fit two halfstacks, two people, and my drumkit... it's like a really big 3d game of tetris in there.

That's all for today.

Evening, Chloe, I'll have a hot fudge brownie sundae and a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please. Thankyou!

Jeff, good to hear that your area got a break from the rain (and time to drain the boat). So, did you think the Frankenstein GeeP's would have been up to that challenge if you hadn't stopped things in time? Wink

Gabe, I've been accused of having that hearing problem your hearing doc told you that you have. Whistling How's your school load this semester? Heavy enough to keep you busy, but not heavy enough that you can't get some MRR'ing in, right?

Ray - what's a microwave toady? Some kind of gizmo to attach to your microwave? Smile, Wink & Grin Good to hear your good news (and hope you can juggle the funds you'll need for your new set of "ears". Mzmbhnanblugh... Oh, nothing. Devil On the microwave, you'll probably be like me - you'll pretty quickly learn what you need to use most often (quick-on or how to set the timer - but do learn how to reset the clock, for those times when the power either goes out or blinks for a second or two...). Or have one of your granddaughters show you how! Whistling

Curt, thanks for posting the photos of your coaling area. Is that a coal dealer in the bottom right corner? Looks like they're running a bit low on their stock. Wink Ah, I see from your other photo that it is a coal dealer.

Matt, it's good indeed that you have that VW, especially since you're paying your own gas bill. Thumbs Up Of course, any time you have a car full of your buddies, the extra weight can drag down the mileage (that's why when I was a kid, whoever drove would take up a collection from the riders...). I had to go lookup airsofting. Thanks for helping me learn something new. Sounds like a little less messy cousin of paintball, eh? (Or am I seriously off on that one?)

Today I've been going through my emails, and consolidating the imported stuff with the others I already had on this drive. Next will be to run a script I have that will check a folder (or multiple ones) for duplicates and move the extras to a "Duplicate Messages" folder which I can double-check and then delete any extras. I figure in a few weeks I may (if I'm lucky) have all my data files consolidated (maybe...). Then I might even have some additional room on my drive. Smile

Tomorrow, I'm supposed to get lunch with my buddy Mark (not the same one as Hoople). He w**ks at a farm up the road from his place. I think the other farm is either a dairy one or a feed lot operation, pretty much family-owned. Mark says that he pushes "stuff" around (the stuff that drops out of the back end of a cow - hope that doesn't set off the alarms in the Forum software..Whistling) We'll go get lunch and visit some in the middle of the day, before he has to go back for the evening part of his shift. His is probably one of the least-fun types of split shifts - I think he goes in about 5:00 or 5:30 in the morning (before dawn, pretty sure), so when he gets done in the evening, he has to hit the sack to get some Zzz's before it's time to get up again. Plus, Mark has a handful of cattle himself at his farm. I'll have to go find a photo I have of his place that he sent me, and post it some time tomorrow.

Prayers for a good night's rest for all you Diners, continued healing for those (Diners, family members and friends) in need of it, good drainage of any rain in your areas, and some chance for a bit of MRR time this weekend for you. AngelAngel

I'll be at the RC with my dessert and my coffee for a little longer.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Jeff,  So, did you think the Frankenstein GeeP's would have been up to that challenge if you hadn't stopped things in time? Wink

Well, we wouldn't have found out from THOSE geeps because they weren't the Frankensteins. Those were the Bachmann GP7's (permanently mu'd set). They may have been up for the challenge. The two GP7's together can move a big load. The Frankenstein geeps are GP9's (another permanently mu'd set) with Walther's Trainline shells. One has a Walther's frame with a Mashima motor and Stewart trucks, Proto 2000 drive shafts, Athearn worms and generic Blomberg side frames. The other has a front Range frame, Mashima motor, Proto 1000 trucks and Athearn drive shafts and worms. Both the GP7's and the GP9's are equipped with Digitrax DZ125 decoders.

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Please.

Dang I am tired. When I got to work it was raining and it was dead. Sun came out and we got slammed! Got the last customer out the door around 9:45 PM. Had a good day dollar wise, I did $3600.00 and boy I needed it.

I am getting a hair cut Friday. More for the fact that Dave likes it hot in the show room. Cannot make it colder than 78 degrees. Today I could feel sweat dripping down the back of my neck and I was just standing there!

Uh Curt How do you get the coal up into the coal tower? Whistling

 Later, Ken

I'll have a double helping of the Insomniac's Special, please.

All is quite here, except for the occasional Great Pyrenees barking at who knows what. Looks like potential for severe weather tomorrow. YeeHaw!

***Curt, really like the work you've done on that layout. I too am curious how the colaing tower is loaded? Especially since I have a couple of those I might be using on my N layout here.

Well, time to try again. Good night all.
