Evenin' Folks!

Chloe I'll have the sirloin steak special tonight, Baked Potato w/ sour cream (and maybe some fresh chives from my garden), and a trip to the salad bar.  Could use a cup of decaf to go along with all that, please.

Spent most of the day catching up on some odds and ends needing top be done a week or so ago.  Went up and fed Miss Monet Marie, the cat.  Gus, the outdoor cats hasn't been around all week, but he (or something else) has eaten the food I put out for him.

One of the scans I did for the Reunion Committee was a program cover for Bye, Bye, Birdie, the show we did when I was a Junior in High School.

The 50 year old program was faded, yellowed and had a bad stain on one end.  The stain went right up through the white dress, and across the left shoulder of the cute little thing in the white dress sitting on the floor.  That is Sally, the cutest girl in my school by a wide margin!  She was in the class below us and I had a major crush on her since I was a second grader..  The crush only got worse when we got to high school.  She was all of 5'1" and just adorable and sweet besides!  Sally was my date for our Junior Prom.  I was in heaven!  Anyway, I just couldn't have that ugly stain going right over her...  ah,  well...  you know, so I played with photoshop and did my best to rub off the stain, so to speak.  Last night I showed the group both the original scan and the results of my work....  I told them what I was playing with photoshop, paused a second, grinned and said, "I always did want to play with Sally's..... Ah, never mind!"

The 3 ladies sitting right across from me at the table... Two of them had shocked expressions on their face, but the one right across from me who has been a good friend for years just roared...  That got everybody going including the ones with the shocked looks.....  Every once in a while I enjoy being naughty! Whistling

I also did some w*rk with the photos I took of what's left of the coal dump.  Got a couple good shots I will use to try to reconstruct it.

Catch you all later!

Oh I'm fine. I'm more than thirty feet above the lake. It's my parents I'm concerned about. The lake is WAY up! It's between six and seven feet deep in their back yard and only a few feet below their lowest back door. I went down and moved my mothers car from the east driveway because it's about to be flooded. I moved it to the north driveway which is much higher. That's a disadvantage for her because she has to walk uphill to get to it but it beats having the car submerged. I couldn't get to my fathers pickup because the water is already around it up to the bottoms of the rims. That would require getting my feet under water which I'm absolutely forbidden to do for the simple fact I have a large open wound and there's no telling what's in that water. The people who live further down Vernon Park road are stranded. Twp sections of the road going out are under more than five feet of water. So unless they came out by boat and had somebody pick them up for work they're at home. My neighbor to the north of me (Boston transplant) is watching the rising water very closely. Her house sits a bit lower than my parents house does. She can almost fish off her back porch right now.

I went into town earlier to get my meds refilled then to Wal-Mart to get a few of things. There were several high water spots in town I had to go around. When I got the Wal-Mart main entrance I saw that the bridge deck was under water. It wasn't moving so I was wondering if I could cross it. A guy behind me in a full size pickup answered my question. He went through slowly and it a couple of inches below the bottom of his back bumper. A foot to fifteen inches deep. I could cross that easily. I just eased across and made it to the other side. Not even enough to come in the foot wells in the doors. Going back out I took the long way around past the Lowe's parking area.

My niece works at the hospital in town and she had to park in a different area. Where she usually parks was under water and there were crews trying to pump out some of the areas. Emergency services were pushed almost to the limit. Several parts of the highways north, east and south of town were flooded. The low side of one really busy intersection at highway 171 and LA 10 was flooded. My sister and her husband were out there to help keep traffic moving. They had to turn a four lane into a two lane. Not easy with some of the meat-head drivers around here. But enough about that. Be back when I can.

Good Evening All,

Time to log out and head home. Nice pics Ray. The dump certainly looks like one now but if you have an idea what it looked like in the day then yes I think there's enough to reconstruct a model.  And which one are you in the cover pic? I'd guess the one in the chair if you're in the shot.

Galaxy - hope you feel better tomorrow. I can't imagine how it feels but my truck drivers' girlfriend is going through much the same thing. Excruciating pain made worse by shots that take a day or more to take effect.

Hope the rest of you have had a good day.  Catch  you all in the AM, J.R.

Howdy all.

Got the e-mail back from Athearn finally. They seem to think that the driveshaft has come undone to the front wheelset. They told me to open her up and see what's wrong... I am not excited to open up that Challenger. Sounds like it's a bit of fun opening one of those up.

Garry: I'm doing well, nice to see you. How are things with you?

Jim: I think the AFA's biggest strength is the fact that you get paid to go there. I've heard the education is very good as well but I'd rather go somewhere else. Carnegie Mellon is great because it's really good engineering school and the music school is good there too; so I could double major or get a minor in music. Music means a lot to me!

That's all for now.

 After Noon Folks! Big Smile

 Flo, Beer Please!

First the Good News I feel like my normal self again! No really news to follow that up with.

I got off work today at 4:30 PM, I was scheduled to get off at 3:00 PM. But we where busy so time past fast. Did not get a lunch break so my feet are killing me right now. 7.5 hours straight of standing and walking will take a toll on the old dogs!

Meet a couple more of the areas managers today. I think I know why I am not getting any where with Dave! I have long hair! Now I do not mean long hair like the 60's and 70's, but my hair touches my ears. These two guys look like GI issued hair cuts! (Larry shaves his head) Now that I am thinking about it none of the Managers I have meet really have any hair, and none of them have a beard?

Could it be that simple? Maybe time to get the hair high and tight again like I was in the Army? My beard on the other hand, I look Weird With Out My Beard. Hides a few scares from my Bar Fight Day's. I was a MP breaking up a Bar Fight and caught a Glass Ash Tray in the mouth. Yes I caught the guy, but sure messed up my pretty faces! Whistling

Old Mopar Pictures Hope you folks are enjoying them. Pictures of the cars in the shop are the special cars that I worked on personally. I did all the blocking of the body work. Blocking is where you get nit picky, and when done right makes a out standing car. While we did 800 everyday cars to ever special we did we did do quite a few of them. Not counting the 69 Dodge Daytona's and Hemi Charger I think the rarest car I worked on was a 69 Vet Z-L1 Not sure if that is the correct letters but it was the special order CPO 427 Vet. Did not take any pictures of it, after all it is a Belly Button Car! Whistling

My specialty is 68 to 1970 Chargers. Did you know that the 68 to 70 Chargers have 13 body lines in the door alone? I amazed more than a few owners when I pointed out body lines the owners never noticed!

Far as the 58 Plymouth, owner saw my Charger sitting in the display window and came in. He had to have us / me to do his car in the same Viper Red as my Charger. It was started on by some body else and we had to redo lot of the work the other person had done. But the Owner kept going "why do I have to pay you to do it again, it is all ready done"? Whistling

I got my way and got the final laugh! After we got the car painted, wet sanded and buffed we went to install the chrome that was done by the other person that did all the body work! (told the owner weeks earlier he need to bring it in) Of the some odd 20 piece's only 10 or so fit the car! Smile, Wink & Grin Asked me what I am going to do? Well here's a few phone numbers and might try E Bay, I am done! So no pictures of the car done.

Well I must be feeling better!

Evening All,

Sitting here watching the end of Jeopardy. After cleaning and laundry I got all my coal hopper trucks  and wheels painted. I used a combo of Rusty Rail, Burnt Umber and a touch of black. I also put together a AMB shack I had and put it with the coal yard office. After that I shot a layout video that turned out OK.

Galaxy- Hope you feel better real soon.

Lion- I really enjoy the  ALCO photos

Jeff- I sure hope your parent's house will be OK with all the rain you guys are getting.

Ray- I sure hate to see old RR equipment and facilities in that kind of condition.

Here is the video I shot today

Hi Jeff,  Did your train go into Medical EMERGENCY?Take care   Bob

It came to a screeching stop! I had just started it about thirty seconds before then chanced to look over at where the track turns to go past Ezra's Exxon station and saw the bag. I hit the power switch on the Zephyr just in time!

Ken... I have been following your work escapades, even if I have not said anything. I am always pulling for you to succeed. Yes, the hair can be a big thing. have the same haircut I had in the Navy, which by the way, was exactly the same as I had when I was a kid. I guess I am a short-haired kitty, eh?

Well trimmed and groomed goes a long way in business. When I got out of the Navy I let my hair grow and it was down to my shoulders. I went looking for a job and the man was up-front: "You cannot represent our company with hair like that!"

I said I would cut it. He said you cut it on your own, it is no guarantee that we will hire you.

Anyway, I returned to my Navy hair cut, and he hired me on the spot. This was of course many years before I grew a beard. But my beard is well trimmed, not groomed and fussed over but I do run over it with a #2 guard on the hair clipper to make it uniform.  Fortunately, I do not have to please anybody.

evening

worked late with my dad on a Chrysler 300M. Pain in the rear car to work on, guy who owned it before has a bunch of ground effects on it. Had one of those fancy front bumpers on it. Hung maybe a few inches off the ground. In Illinois. With snow. What was this guy thinking?

aw well, wasn't my car, not my car, won't be my car

Jim- I'll show a picture of the car on the layout tomorrow night.

Evening all,

Jeff, sorry to hear about your parents house! Please keep us updated on that. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them.

Teen Steam Fan, oh man I can imagine a 300M would be annoying to work on! I've worked a bit on front wheel drive cars before and it is NOT fun.

A good friend from MD is visiting tomorrow, someone I've known all my life so my plan will be to take him out to a good Thai food, no surprise, place for lunch and see a few things around Lancaster until I have to tutor tomorrow night and then get together with my lady.

I'm doing landscaping work for some friends of mine so that will help the finances a bit so I can hopefully move out of my parent's house this summer and continue to save until a good job is available.

Evening all,

Well, MORE RAIN! We've had another 70mm today with another 150mm over night! So far we've had A WHOLE METRE of rain and we are only just over mid way through March. Our average ANNUAL rain fall is normally just over 1000mm. We are on track for bucket loads more this year.

JimCG and others asking about the Tornado :

There were around 20 minor to moderate injuries, no deaths.

Whilst it is fairly minor compared to some US tornadoes it is relatively rare for Tornadoes in Australia to strike Built up areas. It is only the third tornado to strike a built up area in Queensland, with a F2 hitting Brisbane (my home) in the 70's and the Bucca F4 tornado (the largest ever recorded in Australia) with suspected winds over 320km/h in the mid 90s.

The Townsville (my former home) storm hit in the early morning (5.20am) and to no warning apart from the few people who were awake or heard the howling winds. Some of you may be familiar that Townsville lies in the path of many tropical cyclones and has been devastated by many in the past but tornadoes are a different kind of problem. Many homes are built to withstand Category 4 cyclones, the winds generally come from one direction for long periods where as people know tornadoes throw violent winds around in a small radius coming from all directions, hence when TC Yasi struck north of Townsville as a strong Cat 4 with winds in Townsville approx 160km/h for several hours, nowhere near as much damage was done comared to the tornado which had 170+km/h winds, possibly more. Currently our Met bureau is analysing the damage and may upgrade to an EF3 which is quite significant for Australia.

Don't mean to bore everyone!!

Cheers,

Good Morning All,

I see Bill is up and hard at it installing signals this morning. Interesting shot. Woulda thought a rail crane was used for those.

56F and foggy this morning. Wasn't as hot asup Galaxies' and Rays' way yesterday but we still set a record high at 65 for the year.

James - We're to go to Oz this December. When does all the weather fun usually start? First venue will be Eastern Creek then on to Ruapuna in New Zealand if all goes according to plan. We'll use a 40ft container to ship the cars and support equipment and use it as a garage during the trip(s).

Ken - You may be on to something. I have had my beard since I finished boot camp in the Navy and except for a brief thought about aircrew training never considered shaving it off. My old boss wouldn't hire me back with it when I was discharged so I just found other employment (his loss). Had a ponytail as well (what self respecting Rock and Roll muscian didn't in the 70's) until it went through a 911S upper  pulley and I took that as a sign. When I hire I don't pay much attention to all that as long as people are neat and clean but I know many put a big emphasis on their interpertaion of grooming. How much do you want the promotion? Glad you're feeling better

Jeff - hope the weather stays dry long enough for your high water to recede. Talk about stopping a trian for a medical emergency!

Curt - very nice video and i love the overall look of the layout. Lots of attention lavished there.

Galaxy - hope you're feeling better today. Enjoy your climate change while you can. It'll start raining soon enough, no?

Time to head out to the shop and see what kind of trouble I can get into today...... CUL, J.R.

Good morning. It's 51° and partly cloudy. The high will be 78° and it'll be mostly sunny. Boy that's a welcome change!

I saw in the reports this morning that we're under a flood warning. NO KIDDING! I wonder what their first clue was!

Last night I took my KCS SW1500 off the display rack, gave it a quick servicing as it hasn't been run in more than a year then gave it a run on the layout, which I of course caught on video. Here's the link for that: KCS SW1500 4331.

I didn't get much sleep last night. Around 4:00 am I woke up and went to turn over to get more comfortable. I did the old thing of pushing the right elbow into the mattress to roll over to the left. I've done I don't know how many times without any problem. This time however I managed to dislocate my right shoulder! Needless to say I was wide awake! Well, I did something that I've practiced before but never done. I did a SOLO relocation of the shoulder joint. One of the many things my mother taught me from her experience as a nurse of all things. Sometimes I wonder what she hasn't done. Anyway I was successful on the second try and the pain faded to a dull ache after ten or so minutes. It feels much better now but is still a little tender. That's not going to stop me from working on the layout. Now if my father calls me wanting me to do something, yeah, that would stop me.

I hope everyone else has a great day. Prayers for those in need.

Good morning, Chloe.  Coffee time.  I have a few minutes longer to enjoy my coffee this morning.  I made it through another work week, however, I have to go in on Saturday for 6 hours to train on our new computers at work.  It will not be new for me, so they will probably use me to help with training.  They plan to cram 2 days of training into the 6 hours.  It shouldn't be boring.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a breakfast burrito please, thanks.

Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 70. South wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Looks like the windows will go closed today if the humidity climbs to sticky inside level even if it’s cooler outside.

Galaxy- That gas deal you have with the store is actually very nice and I’d go to the store as well. 20 cents is a lot. Even ten cents. Around here, if you’re lucky to get any kind of deal it’s just a penny or two. Even Walmart/Murphy thing Jim spoke of is only a penny or two. Looks good on the sign, but it takes 50 to a hundred gallons to save a dollar. And at $3.95 a gallon…… $394, $395….$3.94, $3.95 Confused hm, what to do. Don’t think I’ll go out of my way. I buy gas here in town. Same as Springfield and it costs about $8 I figure to make a round trip to Walmart and that is just inside edge of Springfield.

In faaaaact, the other day, Springfield prices were $3.99999999999.(at least they weren’t $4. Whew!) and Murphy/ Walmart was $3.97 or I think it was actually 98, Casey’s here was still $3.95.

Didn’t get anything done yesterday. nothing nada zip. Bad boyEmbarrassed Watched Ziva on CBS.com, then thought….gee, I have more on DVD. Watched a few couple three episodes, went to town to get wood filler and something for fat baby dog. Came back, flopped back down in the easy chair and watched more episodes until I went to the restaurant at about 730.

Did eat at the Chinese buffet and was waited on by a very happy, well not overly happy, but smiley what ever her name is ( not sure the names on the tickets are real. They all have names like Nancy, Amy, Susan. Could be I suppose, but the lack of any even remotely Chinese sounding names is kinda suspicious) waitress.

“You want Dot-oh Pepp-oh Missa Peeb? I wait on you. Enjoy”

She has a very pretty smile. Sometimes I wonder if it’s because I give her an extra dollar, or she thinks we might have an extra room.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

I have to go in on Saturday for 6 hours to train on our new computers at work.  It will not be new for me, so they will probably use me to help with training.  They plan to cram 2 days of training into the 6 hours.  It shouldn't be boring.

Yeouch! That's quite a bit of training in a short time. That sounds like some of the schedules my father put together when he had his insurance brokerage in town. But back then computers for general office use not to mention personal use were still in their infancy. His training classes were the old classroom regimen with your nose in a book studying for a test to be given the same day.

After reading my post, it dawned on me some of my comments on the Chinese people at the buffet could be taken wrong. I'm not actually making fun of them even though it kinda sorta sounds that way. I poke fun at all sorts of situations and comments and things people do regardless of race, color or ethnicity. Many United Statesians could actually learn a few things about working by watching these girls. They are very hardworking and conciencious (sp?). Take Nancy (the name on the ticket) my favorite waitress there. She is always doing something. If she isn't taking care of dwink, or clearing plate if you done, she is cleaning tables, wiping of chairs, sweeping floors, mopping the little cubby hole witress station. Even moving things to mop under them. All the while popping a head up and scanning the room keeping an eye on her customers. Even when she is just standing against the wall looking around, it seems she's thinking "what can I do?" and then takes off and wipes a table that's been wiped off before or grabs a broom and dust pan to sweep a crumb.

PLUS...she looks good in black.

Some of my comments aren't totally without merit, but not meant be taken literally either, like the comments of looking for a home. A few years back, another Chinese buffet was closed down do to Green Card issues. They would have a pretty good turn over of staff. This one we go to seems to have the same waitresses for a while with no unusual turn over. It turns out, though they apparently arrived legally, they didn't stay legally. They would work and then be shipped off to someplace else in the country to work and hopefully "acquire legal status" somehow. No I don't believe they were sold, or anything illegal in that respect of how they acquire legal status, just illegal in how long they stayed until that was achieved. Or something like that. Of course there was the whole name thing and lack of taxes paid. WHICH, IIRC, was how they got caught in the first place. Hence my comments on some things. But trust me, I'd make the same comments if they were Americans. You know them Canadians. Still gettin even for that whole Vietnam thing. They just happened to be Chinese. Or...Asian of some sort. I think the place was actually owned by Philipino's. Reopened now under new name and owners. At least the name is different. Hahaha!. (sorry. Couldn't resist)

Howdy!

Apple turnover and coffee, please.

Mark (Hoople) ...... I'm doing great! Thanks for asking.

Curt ..... It must have been an interesting article. One of my videos has the original Zephyr on test runs. Now the train is in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. It is quite remarkable that a train was built and running in the Great Depression that could travel at over 100 mph. It was on old bolted rail track instead of welded rail going that fast. It was built on a tight budget, too. Today, some politicians think we should spend billions of dollars on high speed rail projects that will perform no better than the Zephyr nearly 80 years ago.

Todd ... I hear you loud and clear about the gasoline prices. As I posted when I returned from our trip, we had some very expensive fill-ups. Grumpy Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation being published about this situation. It amazes me that people believe much of it. I am thinking of a so-called "fact check" published by AP yesterday saying oil prices are not affected by drilling for oil. I think there is better information in the tabloids at the supermerkets than the stuff published by AP. However, too many people are gullible. They mistakenly think AP is truthful especially if they use the phrase "fact check". I just wish the schools would teach the kids to be skeptics instead of being so gullible. Drilling for oil increases supply, and that does impact prices. It can not be any other way in spite of the lies in the news media. Also, we do need the pipeline from Canada without further delay. (Sorry Todd. Too much rant.)

Darren .... It is not hard to find U Ky basketball fans in this area. People are going nuts.

I have worked a little more on the layout. I now have more of the Chooch Industries stone retaining walls installed.

Cheers everybody.

Mornin'.................. ZzzZzzZzz  Huh?...  Oh sorry I got home around 2:00AM from picking up my sister last night.  Her plabne was on time, but it was scheduled to arrive at 11PM, so it was 11:30 before we left the airport, an hours drive to her house, and them the drive home to Geneva..... Zzz  Of coarse Blackie the cat decided that last night was a good one to keep coming over and liking my nose during the night.....  Anyway, Zoe, I need a pot of Dark Roast coffee in a FGLK mug please.   Maybe a butter rum muffin to go along with it.

Today will be another day for the record books...  Currently 64°F and going up to 76°F this afternoon.  Time to get the fan in the window while it is still coolish outside.

I have my hearing test today.  I will be glad to get it over with so they can inform me I have a hearing loss!  Then I can pay them $5,000 and hopefully get something which will at least allow me to still drive for a few more years....  I don't expect they will be able to make me hear any better really.  We will see what we will see.

I have a long list of other stuff that has to be done as well today, so I think I'll just have another pot of coffee and get to it.

Later!
