Good Morning Gang!

Well, it is not really a good morning. Our job administration made a big mistake, which means we won´t be having any money next month. No money to pay the rent, no money to pay our energy bill, no money to pay the telephone & Internet and no money to buy such unimportant things as food.

I will have to undertake legal action against them, and I am sure I will win this case, but it takes minimum 4 weeks to get settled. Our love for each other will not be enough to feed Petra and me.

I am pretty desperate! I will have to sell my MRR stuff for close to nothing, just to get something to eat.

Time to leave this planet.

Ray:  The Sir Vival safety Car was developed in 1958.

A two-part body designed so that the front section absorbs most of the impact while isolating passengers, seated in a separate rear compartment, from the collision.

A “safety chamber” under the dashboard, surrounded by a steel bulkhead, that passengers dive into moments before a collision.

Seats that turn backwards to prepare occupants for an impact.

The question remains unanswered, because, fortunately, none of these crash-survival strategies ever made it to a mass-production model. But each was proposed over the years by inventors with their own ideas of how to advance auto safety — and prototypes with these well-meaning (but misguided) safety concepts still exist.....taken from...http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/23/automobiles/collectibles/23SAFE.html

Good Morning All,

I worked most of the weekend on a model for the coal mine section and making scrap metal loads for 41’ gondolas.  I bought 2 gallons of 2 part plastic from a theatrical supplier in Chicago.  This plastic dries smooth, super hard, with very few air bubbles.  It’s used to cast costume armor and weapons for plays and movies. It has a pot life of 7 minutes and a de-mold time of 30 minutes.

Ray what is CAN (I think I’m stepping into a catfish and panfer joke).  Sounds like you had a great time with the grandkids.  I still have fits of verbosity now and then.

Curt, do you have any insights on containers PRR used in the 1940’s and 1950’s?  I have a model flat car from F&C with 5 containers on a PRR flat car…

Lion, it amazes me that the local hobby stores don’t advertise.

GabeUSMC: Your right downtown Sportsman Paradise.  Is that your only hobby shop?  I would imagine there would be a few in that part of the woods…

Sue, those trees also get heavier the farther you have to carry them.  Do you plan on using it in a wood burner?  I was wondering how birch performed, I know oak will last all day and put out some substantial heat.

Evening everyone!

Flo, spicy tomato bisque soup with a baguette please.

To help out a friend and coworker I swapped shifts Friday night and worked 4:30-9:30 watching several episodes of MASH with my boss. I didn't really appreciate that show until my teenage years but its one of those shows that I wouldn't easily tire of as it's, in my opinion, just so good!

Instead of tutoring sessions an hour at a time my student requested I do two hours on Saturday morning.

I started on my X29s and one of my N&W BPa kits had mangled ladders, which I can rework a bit, and it had been missing the sprue with the steps and certain grab irons. I posted a message on HOI trying to find some parts but have yet to get a response. I took off the coupler boxes that are molded onto the frame as I'd like to outfit the cars with Sergent's narrow shank couplers.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just my evening decaf please.  I'll in the back trying to get warm again.

Spent an hour on Skype tonight.  Test call for an NMRA Region Board of Directors meeting Wednesday night.  First time we have tried this using Skype.  Turned out very well with only one of the 5 of us that connected tonight having any difficulties, and we think that was technical at his end.  He did get it to more or less work....  One of the things we chatted about was the train accident up North of the border today!  My prayers for all affected by it.  Will be interesting to find out what happened.

Todd, So you scrolled down a bit at the site and things S.L.O.W.ed down, huh?  That article happened because the kid who is the editor of the R&GV RR Museum newsletter (a graduate of RIT in Rochester and a professional photographer) happened to come back to RIT and was at a train show in Batavia helping out with the Museum Table.  He was also just hired by the, ah, competing train magazine as their web editor just a few weeks before.  He happened to come over and watched the slide show of our division members model railroad layouts.  He interrupted me while I was talking with a guest, excused himself, and handed me his new business card saying.  Ray, throw me an email, we need to talk!  The result of the chat was the page you saw. Big Smile

Ulrich, the loco sure looks impressive crossing the gorge on the bridge!  Nice modeling, and nice photography.

i will echo whoever said they were enjoying the progress photos posted here!  BTW, Barry, what the heck kind of vehicle was THAT???

BTW have any of you people heard of CAN?  Any of you using it?  There is even a (Draft) NMRA standard for it....... Huh?Confused

Hope you all have a safe and good night!

Jeremy B .... I watched the video you linked about the VIA accident. I heard it was 3 VIA employees in the locomotive who were killed. That's very sad.

Gabe ... Harbor Springs? Is that where you live? I've been there. Nice town.

Jeff ... So far, Rivarossi is the only make of U25C's in HO. It was a good idea to replace the drive as you did because the Rivarossi drive was a cheap design. I had sold of them in CB&Q and NP, but I sold them a few years ago. Burlington used U25C's in the 1960's in Colorado and Wyoming.

JR Glad you took time to check in here while on your trip.

Rob ..... Did you get the little folks placed on the layout.?

Curt ... Eventually, I will get around to taking pix of downtown. Meanwhile look at these Pennsy sharks at the Burlington's yard at Chicago in 1965.

Good Evening All,

Took a while to catch up posts but well worth it. Great to see Chuck and  Ulrich both back and some of you other sometimes posters too. Hope all of you heal up well and quickly.

The weather here in south Fla has been daffy. High 80's Thursday and then 60's through today. At least we didn't get all the rain they got just north of here. Got all our testing done and most all went well.  Not all the tidings were good though with some passings noted among friends.

Drop my fabricator off at the airport tomorrow am and then off to Stewart to spend a couple of days getting ready for the first Sebring event.    Catch y'all later, J.R.

Eh... Subway trains, rail grinder, MOW movements, the signal dolly, MONEY TRAIN, Garbage Train, and the SUPER SUCKER aka "The Track-Vac"

All will be represented on my layout

Prayers for the people that have passed away ( there saying on the news here that 3 are dead )

Life Flight helos are never a good sign. Hope it wasn't used, but it looks like a nasty wreck. Yikes!

Oh, I missed that several had died. Just went strait to the photos. Sorry for all the loved ones involved. Ouch!

Been thinking about going down into the train room and adding some little folks to the (HO) layout, just to tuckered out still. I know right where they are going, too.

Evening All,

Well I survived the early start today but I'm beat. Early to bed tonight. I was thinking about working on the layout tonight for a little bit since I got off early but once I got home tonight I looked at the layout and thought no way.  It was cool, windy, and overcast all day with short light rain storms (not like Daytona). I w**k Mon and Tuesday until midnight.

Sue- You are correct. I really like doing operations/switching. The 2 curves had very sharp turns that I thought I would be good with. As they were only my 4-4-0, 2-6-0, and H10-44 would run through them at a crawl with 40 ft cars. The more I used that siding the more frustrated I became. I would like to run my Sharks, FP-7, and K4s through the siding, and possibly my M-1b.

The new area that I ripped out was having continuing power issues and derailing issues which made it practically unusable. And once again I was very frustrated with it. I think it was a case of trying to do too much in too little space.

Lion- I did not realize you ran anything besides subway cars.

Gabe- I almost ordered that kit this week but went with a couple of kits from American Model Builders. I have not built any of Walther's wood kits but the last plastic one I did pretty much turned me off of Cornerstone building products.

Chuck- I hope you continue to improve.

Ken- Looks like the kids had a good time. I remember when I was a kid I loved going to my Uncle's house because he had a large  layout in his basement.

Garry- When you finish the downtown area can you post pictures showing the entire area? I would really like to see them as I'm sure others would too.

Ulrich- That steamer looks great on the bridge.

Oz Jim- I look forward to your progress photos.

Prayers for all those in need or recovering from medical problems.

Coffee refill, please.

***Ray, your description of the day with your grandkids put a smile on my face. I'll bet you are beat, too. Rest up now!

Sad when hobby shops close up. Sure can understand it though.

Found someone to do some work around the farm, mostly fence work. I'm not up to doing everything presently, so for $10 an hour, it will be money well spent. Who knows, it might look like someone lives here after a little while.

Will be sitting next to Ray, trying to recover from my less than exciting chores.

Door swings open, an old man limps to the counter and winces as he sits down......

Afternoon folks!  Ahhhh, man am I beat!  Those two little girls sure know how to wear out Grandpa......!

Actually we all had a gret time for about 2 hours.  The only ones that aren't sure yet are my two kitties who are pretty much terrified of the girls...  With good reason I might add.  Although, the granddaughters are learning to be gentle around the kitties.  Blackie did come out and sit on my lap and let them pet him.  Then the little one shreeks with joy and he was gone like a arrow in flight!  We got Thomas out as soon as they arrived.  I asked them if we should.  Oldest said, "Uh huh!" and went to get it out.  Youngest said, "Thomas? yes, I think that would be great.  I like Thomas...."  Or something like that only twice as long.  She makes up for being littler by being very verbose most of the time.  Of course I have trouble understanding what she says at times.  We colored and drew on some paper, then took rides in Grandpas computer chair.  Round and round and round and round...  We were just starting to play, Hide something so we can look for it Grandpa, when the parents arrived back to pick them up.  I am now in recovery mode before going over to their house for dinner tonight.

No trains for me today.

Later!

Hey every one. I'll have a diet Coke, Laura

Yesterday i went to a hobby shop in near-by harbor springs MI. This hobby shop is in the upstairs of an interior decorating shop. The guy who runs it is the friendlest, nicest guy but unfourtantly he has to close up. hes been there for three years and has a very hard time turning a profit, mostly because no one knows he is there. in fact there was one guy up there that just found it yesterday!

Did he advertize in Model Railroader? Or even in the local paper. Heck, radio ads out here are $5.00 each.

Oh well, our local guy *does* advertize in MR and has tried radio, but he too will be closing up. I guess Bismarck is not a big enough city for a hobby shop. (Besides he never carried any subway trains.)

[well of course he can order them, so can I!]

anyways i bought some stuff. First som trees (what layout dosen't need more trees) and a Walthers Laser cut wood structe Lakeshore Coal and Ice. I am going to use it as an office to my Lakeforest CO-OP Elevator. I will probaly add a deck out front of it, a defintly won't need the coal bunk. This being my first wood/lasercut kit I am surprised by the ease it is going together. The only problem was that two of th walls were a little long, but I fixed that. I will tell ya'll how it works out.

Ah.....  Afternoon folks!

Just popping in for a quick lunch before the Granddaughters arrive.  I get to watch them while my son and DIL get their taxes done.  I spent the morning vacuuming and cleaning up a bit.  You know i should clean more often.  The cat hair, dirt and dust does get a bit deep when you only vacuum once every couple months....... Well

Foto feeling a little better this AM, but I guarantee by evening it will be sore if I do some of my chores.

maybe a good day to watch the Desi-Lucy Comedy Hour on Hallmark Channel under the title of "We Love Lucy"! That way I can keep my foot up and have something to do.

Dinner will be ...chicken and such for dinner...I don't have to cook it...was planning Polkska Kielbasa and onions and peppers {heart attack on a plate}, but that would require standing and chopping.

Maybe I cook that anyway. MOH not fond of chicken and we did just have chicken the other night. Wink

Well, later

Does it run?

Nope. It was made to be a static display only. The wheels are super glued in place and the old pancake motor was removed many years ago.
