Needed to get my mind off the icy cold weather, so I searched the web for some nice pictures. Here is my find:

I hope you are enjoying our stay in Japan. Oh, btw, we are just riding the 秩父本線 Chichibu-honsen, which links Hanyū and Mitsumineguchi, both in Saitama Prefecture.

So far I've converted two of the cars to body mounted Kadee's. One is an AHM GN boxcar an dthe other is a Roco covered hopper. The hopper had a pair of oversize trucks secured to it with large ugly screws. They had Fleischmann couplers and huge flanges that could cut the thickest pizza. I refitted it with AHM trucks. A big improvement.

A major thunderstorm is moving in so I'll be getting off of here pretty quick.

Minasan, kon'nichiwa!

Zoe, Is it possible to get a couple eggs over easy (fresh ones I mean) a few slices of bacon, and some sourdough toast?  OK, No toast, bowl of rice would be OK....  Oh, and find me some decent dark roast coffee if you can.  Thanks!

Another dark, gloomy, gray, late fall day here in the Finger Lakes.  Sure wish Winter would arrive!  I may try digging some parsnips tomorrow if the rain holds off.  Some nice fried parsnips would be good this time of year.....

I found one more poem THAT needs to be returned to a school...  I will try early this afternoon and hope someone is in the office.  They have an early dismissal today and a Superintendents Conference this afternoon.  New Superintendent and she is doing a good job of meeting her staff and the community so far.

Rob, Hope the thud doesn't mean damage for you to fix!

Think I will go back to cleaning up the junk around the house....

Later!

Good Afternoon!

Today´s Japan pic is this one:

Yes, that´s a train! Got a bit of a Duffy Duck face to it, IMHO.

Have a good one!

Extra strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

Felt a thud this morning: either a limb hit the roof or a tree came down somewhere. It's gusting pretty good here.

Y'all have a good day!

Japan?? Really!

Check in occasionally, my regular bagel and coffee please?  My grandson will be here this weekend,we will probably lay track on the as yet completely designed layout. I definitely need to learn how to post pictures  to get some help with track plan. So far  I have mainline and yard along one side of the approx. 12 x12 ft. room with rest of bench-work to complete circle around the room.

Good morning. It's 65 and raining. Chance for rain is 70% this morning decreasing to 60% this afternoon.

I'll be getting the second half of the grocery shopping done today then I'll settle in and go through this collection of old rolling stock that was sent to me. Primarily I'll be seeing which pieces I want to keep. Some of them are too old for my general era. I have no use for stock cars and wood side reefers including two Dairymen's League refrigerator cars that are missing only the brake wheels.

The ones I want to keep will be going to the shop to be fitted with Kadee couplers and if needed serviceable trucks. These trucks will be taken from the cars I don't want.

Yesterday my father and I were trying to get the OnStar system on my mother's car working. No dice. It seems OnStar isn't available here.

Mornin,,, an irish coffee please dear, my Zoe you smell nice today.

Another day of 50’s and sunny, rain coming in tonight and into Sunday morn. No train time last night, had a legion meeting. Most always an enjoyable time for me, adult conversation a couple barley pops and no kids, almost hated to come home.

JR,,,  The bigger kids help on the layout sometimes when they’re here. I remember the 135’s very well, spent 3 years working on them; mostly the EC’s [white tops] was crew chief on one, 8053. Did get some time on the KC’s, just a wing wiper those times.

CURT,,,, I seen a passager coach and a baggage heavy weights cars in PRR colors come through on the tracks headed towards St Louis here Wednesday

TERRY,,,,, really like the field and cattle pic

TODD,,,,, sadly dealin with kids 24/7 does seem to normal round here anymore

DER,,,,,, like the car scene. Don’t think I could do it even with magnifiers, finger no work good anymore

Best get ta chores and shut this thing down. Earl will be here shortly and him n Yazee love to push buttons

Thoughts n prayer for all in need n hope ya’ll has a gooden

Morning All,

Supposed to be around 80 F today. It looks like it wants to rain, but none is predicted so it will probably pour. I have to go to the vet and pick up a prescription of prednisone for Raine. He is getting better but very slowly. The vet reviewed the x-rays and told MOH that he is leaning toward a soft tissue injury now.

While I am out I'm going to the LHS and  look for ideas for my vertical mountain/hill back drop. Could be dangerous.

Talk to you all later.

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have my coffee in a NP mug this morning, please.

Todd,  Yes,  it is a great scene, but it belongs to Terry.

Went to an Irish play last night.  It was way too long and depressing.  I won't be recommending it to anyone.  At least the actors were strong.

Happy “National No Work in Ohio Day“! Were everyone in Ohio gets the day off. New federal holidays starting this year. Next month is Montana, but I don’t think anyone actually lives there to enjoy it.

Good Morning!! Coffee and maybe some more of that Kaneesheewah stuff. It reminded me a lot of an omlet…., wait what is today? February 3rd? Well then in that case, scratch that. I suppose I had best get back to what this diner stands for. MRRing, friendships, and….pie. Zoe! I’ll have a nice big piece of Lemon Meringue Pie please. Thank you.

Pie. It’s not just for dessert any moreDinner Wink

Partly sunny, with a high near 55. Not complaining mind you, but I don’t think we’ve had but a handful of daytime temps below freezing. Not sure, but I don’t think we’ve even had but two or three where it stayed even in the teens all day. In fact, my grass is still green with just patches of brown. I may have to mow next week!

Johnboy- Welcome to the fold. Laugh Except for the toilet part, that’s pretty much how it happens around here. Starts out so meek and mild and soooooo simple. Then POW! Right out of the blue, the biggy comes. Used to be a subtle and almost sneaky, no, not almost sneaky, more like down right sneaky, approach to the desired end result.

Pssst. (Ahem) Who let JR have the Saki?

Me I was borned a coal miners daughter. No that’s not what I meant to say. I meant I was born in the good old United States back when you could say God in a government building and smoke in the grocery store. I remember the ash trays at the end of the aisles. So that makes me United Statesian. Jeffery’s ancestors were here prior to any country being formed when it was probably just a chunk of land with only buffalo and Sasquatches. But, we have to call it something so when good ole Amerigo Vespucci, or how ever you spell it, named the continent, we had, after of course misspelling and mispronouncing as per tradition for us, we can now happily call them Native…Americans. Until that is, of course, Senor Columbus, got a snoot full and wound up on some island thinking it was India. Then tried it againa and STILL didn’t get it right, but at least made to the main continent and TADAAAAA! Discovered America! Odd how it already had a name. Good thing too. Can you imagine living in the United States of Columbus. Oh, ya, I know, we would have misspelled it first, but you get the idea. So goes the story of why some NA's don't like being called Indians. Kinda like you calling me, well, Indian. Wrong group. But I think they should be upset with the Spanish and their olives for that! Not us. We United Statsians had nothing to do with that. All we did was move in and take over.

Der- The neighborhood is really looking good.

Best getta groutin

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!! Dinner

Evening All,

Flo I would love a cup of Decaf please.

I finished the back of the layout. I think it looks 1000% better than I had but it still needs something. Most of it is vertical walls so it limits what I can do. I will post pictures tomorrow. I'm too tired to do it now (still have to take them). I did do one thing stupid, I did not tape the rails before I startedDunce so I spent a enjoyable hour scrubbing track with Q-tips and alcoholBang HeadDunce. I doubt that I make that mistake  again.

I love the photos and videos of the Japanese loco's in the snow.

Jeff- Shooting anything with that would be like a cartoon where there is black puff and bits of fur blowing out from it.

Der- That is a tremendous job on the car, engine and hoist. Well done.

Everyone have a good night.

Good evening folks: An order of Ken style raw fish please and ありがとう - I'd like to try the Chicken Soup from scratch too - Todd's special order!Mischief

To answer a question from the last location,

Garry:

Der John ..... How do you work so well with that itsy bitsy N Scale stuff?

A picture being worth 1K words,

Clown  Which leads us to a progress report that I had hoped to file before we moved. The next house down the street in the village I'm working on finishing is now done: The street is looking like this :

The engine lift out (or drop in - don't know which Confused) came out about how I imagined it, but it took a lot of fiddling to get the hoist chains to look as if they were hanging right.

I discovered another feature of the scenery technique I've used for the ground cover on this layout - sawdust and white glue mix spread on and painted. If you want to remove a section (I had to "plant" that house because I couldn't remove it from its base - the glue was too strong and the plastic too brittle)- all you have to do - even years after the scenery has been down - is to spray it with alcohol/water mix, wait about 10 minutes, and cut around the border of the section to be removed. Then you can simply insert a scraper under it, and lift it out - just a bit of clean up and you're down to the substrate - foam in this case.  Here's the removed section for the house. http://i

The pale sawdust mix is the cleaned up scrapings - not much left really.Cool

So now there is only one house left to finish on that street, then I can get back to planting trees, and maybe do the field on the opposite side of the interchange. That hay field with the cows has me all inspired, thanks for posting it Terry. Thumbs Up Quick work on that embankment Curt - how long is that run?

Ray: I didn't take time to read what you posted yet, but saw photos of your taking what looked like a major part of the layout down. Considering the care with which you model, that must have been a wrench.

Johnboy: My sympathies on the toilet / floor wars. Whistling

JR:

And who told Vinnie where I hid the frypan - OUCH!
sort of reminds me of a song on an "All the songs from 1939 - 1999" Juke box link that Dick sent me over Christmas -From 1955 IIRC,  Smokey Joe's Café. Here's a Youtube link to another cover of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j3xm_tJu-o

Ken: http://free.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-download

But can't help with the XP Safe Mode thing - sorry.

Hope it works out well with Neil! Kudos on your honesty Bow

The groundhog consensus in Nova Scotia is no shadow = a short winter. Since there are no groundhogs on Sober Island, I expect we will get an interminable winter sogging into a damp cold Spring.Sigh

Tomorrow has been declared house cleaning day by the power that be, so I'd better get to bed so I'm all rested for it!Zzz

Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Today I got a big box in the mail. Inside, packed wall to wall in two layers were twenty-seven freight cars. Tyco, Life-Like, Mantua, AHM, AHM/Roco, AHM/Mehano and maybe a couple of Athearn cars. Most have horn hooks, some have Fleischmann couplers and trucks with pizza cutters that could cut two pizzas one on top of the other. The flanges are HUGE! I've only had time so far to ID one car, a Tyco Red Box 50' New Haven boxcar in near mint condition. Before I could ID more my parents insisted I show up for dinner. Wasn't a total loss. Steaks and rice in a heavy beef gravy, sliced carrots with jalapenos, green beans, french bread. Good stuff.

Hey, I have enough KO&G boxcars now to make a little fleet. I started with one, I now have eight!

I'll have a list of the cars up when I've ID'd them. Some are way too old for my general era.

Yoru no hitobito!

See Cloe, I'm learning the language....  (Have no idea what I just said, but I heard someone else say it a few minutes ago....)  I'll have the Tonkatsu for dinner...  I hear it is very good!  Ah, can I get a cup of decaf to go along with it?

I think Jeffrey is looking to get rid of any new critters he might have on the layout.  I think he could even get a monster spider or two with THAT.....

Barry, no one here has ever accused you of being sane.  THAT would take all the fun out of this place if any of us were completely sane!

I just got home from the Cub Pack Committee meeting.  I started this over 2 hours ago....  got interrupted several times and then had to get to the meeting.  Made several errands earlier in the day, got my allergy shot, and came back home and did some odds and ends.  Mostly sorting through stuff THAT has been sitting around my house for a couple of decades and I have decided to get rid of!

Later!

 Evening Fellow Dinners!

 Flo, Beer please.

Computer Problems First. My AVG is not starting when I start the computer. While the windows alter is not coming on saying there is no anti virus but I cannot get it to run either? So I have 2 qustions.

1 How do I get XP to go to safe mode?

2 Site to get a new AVG, I was running the 2012 version.

 Work Front, Going To War!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Short version (I was posting the full story Monday and Ulrich moved the dinner) and it was lost. Had a customer Monday that came in for tire's. Told her about the free inspection and she said she did not need it, just had done at the dealership. Asked what they said need to be done and she went out to got the list.

One of the things that was listed was rear brakes. At this point Larry The Crook / Services Writer butted in and said he would take the list! At the counter, they are my customer not his so I shut him down!  Dealership told her she had 5,000 miles left on the rear brakes.

SUV came in for the 4 new tires and Larry unzipped his fly so to speak. Went and got the customer and I was pretty sure I heard "you went a little too far and it is metal to metal" I was busy at the time and was not 100% sure.

Half hour later she was back for a rubbing sound. Larry the Crook / Services Crook was gone so I handled the problem. While we where trying to find the problem (turned out it was a bent backing plate) we looked at the old rotors that where under specks. Guess what was sitting with them? Yep her brake pads that have 8MM of pad left! Guess where the pads are now? In my car!

Now I was not 100% sure if I heard Metal to Metal when Larry The Crook was %&^$ her! I did tell Bill and few other people in the shop. (they all hate Larry) I saved a copy of the invoices and was going to call her as a follow up and see what she was told about he brakes?

Did not have too. She came in today to get her Power Steering flushed and Bill asked her how was her last visit? She said it was fine and glad Larry the cook / services caught the fact the rear pads where Metal to Metal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact there was no Pad Left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hum, wish my pads are as thick as her old ones!

Neil the Division Manager (asked me to come work for the company) will be in town Friday. So I will either the shop or be underemployed shortly.
