Seriously considering selling off all the various old cars (w/ rapido couplers) and replacing them with a select few, upgraded models, specific to my layout industries. It seem like a better approach to MRRing (for me) these days. Just need to get up the energy to start taking pics of them and the motivation to list on the-bay.

Yesterdays storm died down in the small hours of this morning. Although it was not as bad as the one before in terms of mph, it caused a lot more damage, but no loss of life. Right now it is calm with a clear blue sky, but temperatures are short of freezing only. There are birds singing outside. This is January!

Jeff - up until the early 1980´s, German Railways had coaches in use, which were built-ups on the chassis of pre-WW I 3-axle cars. They had padded seats, but the ride was something else.
The 2-6-0 loco you saw was most likely one of these:
It was nicknamed "Prairie Horse" and was the only 2-6-0 remaining in service after WW II.
Galaxy - I am really sorry to hear about your continuing back pain. Are you sure there is no further treatment? I do hope there is.

Good morning. It's 59 and very foggy. A dense fog advisory is in place until 9 am. The high will be 72 and there's a 40% chance of rain all day.This morning I have my parents pampered pets (two very energetic poodles) to the groomers dor a clipping. That should take no more than an hour but is totally dependent on the cooperation of the dogs. They can be difficult to get along with at times.Not much happening otherwise. I worked on the little Fleischmann loco and coach last night. I removed the hook and loop couplers and replaced them with Kadee couplers in #242 draft gear boxes. Not as hard as I thought it might be. Like the old saying, hope for the best, plan for the worst. The couplers look a bit high but the gauge shows them to be right. Must be the small size of the units. The loco runs a little better but is still pretty rocky.

Good Morning!! Coffee and…….oh just coffee I suppose thank you. It smells funny in here. The sewer back up? Sunny, with a high near 59. Well, here’s the new guitfiddle. The 12 string on the right. The D-28 on the left is kinda jealous, but it’ll be short lived. Always happens when something new is brought in and gets most attention. Lee- I’m having less and less confidence in the Nursing Homes. Mom didn’t have good luck and neither did Brenda’s. I hope your Mom escapes the Scabies and gets out of there ASAP. Rob- Really. The bounce factor is what I was referring to. Do the rear tires have calcium in them? Of course the box blade will do well to offset the what, 1000lb bale, but the length it sets out there I figured would make for an easy nose dive. Jeff- I was thrilled with my remote start on the new truck. Unfortunately, there are enough people around here that have it, by the time I got the new toy it was old news. Apparently I’m way behind on technology. Did you get the brake pedal modified yet? By the way, they found out a few years ago that saliva also causes cancer. But not to worry. Only if swallowed in small amounts over a long period of time. Curt- Glad Kathy’s home. Ray- Had to laugh and read in interest the lawn mower story as it sounded familiar. I thought about the ending possibly being the same as a similar event. A friend of mine a few years ago took his push mower up to a local repair shop in a nearby town in the late fall and the same thing happened. He heard nothing and came back in the spring to check. The guy looked and looked. Came back out and said “where did you leave it?” He told him by the overhead door out back like you told me. To which ole Cosby dropped his head and said..” well, (insert slang for excrement). I sold that a month ago.” He set him up with another, but we laugh about that from time to time. Sometimes when we drop off an item for him to fix, we say “you ain’t gonna sell that are you?” To which he usually offers to mate in a rather crude way if you catch my drift. It's a very mild day here in Pittsburgh, Temperatures are expected to be in the low fifties. An excellent opportunity to take the outside Christmas lights and decorations down. I have other things to do, but I don't want to freeze my fingers off later.
Not much new at our house. The wife will begin outpatient physical therapy on Monday. Because she is to stand and walk as much as possible, I convinced here that doing the dishes is a way of accomplishing both those objectives. Couldn't believe it, but she bought into it. YEAH.... I don't mind cooking, I just hate the clean up. However, now that I think about it, she agreed a little to quickly. Somehow or another, I bet I've been outfoxed again.

***Todd, NICE 12 string. Always loved the sound they produce, when in the right hands. Oh, liquid filled tires. It hugs the ground with no hint of being light. Figured this little beast must weigh well over 7,000lbs as it stands, but can't tell you how much more than that. Yea, hay probably weighs around 1,000lbs.

***Lee, yes, thought about doing repaints. However, they still have the rapido couplers and I've already failed at finding replacement trucks that fit the various makes/models of cars. Soooo, I think it's time to simplify life and just replace them. Might get undecorated units and paint those to match the factory, a light pale green.

It has been highly determined that CANCER causes CANCER. So stay away from it. I've had skin cancer caused by the sun. I wonder if all the times I was exposed to the Moon, if I will get cancer, too.
WEnt grocery shopping. Got out for under $100 for once. Mostly canned goods as they have a sale on canned goods going on now. Should be all the canned veggies and soup we need for the month. Now all I have to do is fit them in the pantry shelves. Need to halt the grocery budget til the card bill comes and is paid off. We should have enough of everything{?} to last the rest of the month and a good start on next month.
WEll, I think it is time for a nap.

Todd, got to love it. THAT was what I thought the kid was going to tell me..... There was no foul language though. Not from the Mennonites! My FIL would have made the air blue in short order! Of course he was a plumber by trade.......
Garry, Model Airplane? Well, he did make one I believe... It was a model of a biplane he had made. Ah, THAT was 1/1 scale! Here is the model of it:
He also built this one (not absolutely sure this was the one Barney built, but the photo was taken at a nearby airport way back when). Pietenpol Air Camper:
He also had all the jigs down in his cellar to build a Piper Cub from Scratch. He used to rebuild them for other people (as well as his own). When I was first married, most every Sunday afternoon when the weather was good, Barney would fly his Piper over to our house. We would be sitting at the table in our little mobile home across the road from my parents house on the farm and we would suddenly hear, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt, putt......... We would go outside, and sure enough, the piper was circling our place just off idle. We would wave, he would wave at us, cigar in hand (he always flew with the windows open), and then the throttle was opened up, she roared to life, and he was gone..... Those were good days!
This is Barney a few years ago on his 95th. birthday. He just heard a small plane go overhead....
He passed that year, still both an ornery curmudgeon, and one of the nicest guys you could ever know! We still miss him!

I appreciate your post and sharing "Barney" with us. I'm glad his spirit is still with you. I suspect my Dad would have liked knowing him. My Dad did fly when he was young, but health issues stopped him from being a pilot later. He did build many things.
Here is my Dad with the live steam locomotive he built. He would have been 94 yesterday. Yes, I miss him.

Got to use the tractor for a few minutes, moving a bale into the barn and then grappling some loose hay out to the minis. Recorder shows over 5 hours now and the fuel gauge has finally started to move off of full. Seems efficient.
Closed up the house, including the train room. Spotted a steamer or two in there I can part with, to help fund (justify) some desired acquisitions. The plan is to list something next Thursday on the-bay.

Evening All,
Not much happening here. MOH and Raine are both snoozing in the living room. MOH is doing a little better and had her walker delivered today. I helped her up the stairs today so hopefully she won't be stuck in the living room.
Took Raine in today to the Vet. We decided on a treatment plan and I was going to come back to get him after his treatment. Well I get a phone call about 3 hours later that the vet had left with no explanation and that he had received no treatment. Oh and could I bring him in on Monday....well my next day off that they are there is next Friday. When I went back in I was supposed to talk to the vet about drug therapy for his pain...that did not happen. We are stuck because he is a exotic pet and very few vets will deal with them. I am asking around on the skunk board (yes there is such a thing) for another vet in the area as another option. To say that I am *** about this is putting it mildly. Oh it looks like it is arthritis and it was made worse by him getting it struck hard somehow.
I posted a video on WPF of one of my working signals.
Todd- I am sorry for the loss of your Dad. He looked like an awesome guy.
