It's 46 here with still a shower coming through now and then. The low is looking like 40 so it's likely the heater will be on low tonight. I'm having eyesight problems again and it's getting hard to focus, even with my glasses on. That seems to happen every three or four months. Looks like I'll have to call a halt to the extensive reading for a while. That's a shame as I like reading the posts here and on other forums. I'm using the MS text to speech program to listen to posts but it's not the same. This is generally as bad as it gets so it should start clearing in a few days, maybe a week or two. I'll still be here, just won't be posting quite as much.

Good Evening.
Well..was wondering where people went.. I thought that I must have been smelling off again
We had our classes tonight..short and sweet..not too complicated...tomorrow, however the wonderful city will be turning off our water here as we have to get more piping fixed around here...again
Right now it is snowing to beat the band..and, of course, we are already hearing of 'incidents' involving vehicles discovering the joys of ditchdiving...
Chloe, I'll just have a refill on my coffee and a small cherry pie please....no..I don't think I asked for the 4 foot variety..just a small one..please...thankye..I'll be at the back by the potbellied stove here...

Some Times It Is Good To Work At NTB. Today I drove my Town Car to work. (Sue keeps the one we all ready had) While it was here at the house I never got a good luck at the front end of the car. Today in the parking lot at work I got a good look and the left front tire was leaning inward a good 1.5 inches. Yep, I am thinking to my self, lower ball joint was shot. Got the car in the shop and had the front end inspected.
Well, lower ball joint's where fine, left upper ball joint needs to be replaced soon but still safe to drive, right upper ball joint is showing ware and will need to replaced down the road. Idler arm all so needs to replaced down the road.
Had the car alignment done and got the camber set right, tire now sits straight! My cost? Only $20.00.
Priced out the cost on replacing the Left Front Upper Ball Joint with labor and a new alignment, a whole $70.00. Yep I can live with that. Cost to a customer, $320.00.
While I am at it, I think I will have all new shocks, front springs, both upper ball joints, idler arm and alignment done. Rather have a safe good riding car for Christmas than a new Train Engine. Hum, did I just type that?

Got a bit more done on the second Steam boiler tonight while I was doing a wash. Took the truck in to be checked over. I should know what is wrong and how much it will set me back sometime tomorrow.

Hey all. So i've been poking around the forum for awhile and have seen this thread several times and have tryed to read up as much as a i can and figure out what it is but I'am still woundering what is Elliot's Trackside Diner all about?
Evening all, just stopping in before a shower and bed. Haven't been home all that long, as today was an extremely busy day. Had to head off to the store and do most of our monthly grocery shopping this evening, so it was a "late" night getting home. I had two side jobs today since I was off from my "real" job today. One was paying, one was paying, but in another way. First one was finding out why a guy's check engine light was on. Found the problem and fixed that one. Second job was a friend of the family, they've got a Nissan Quest van and the engine has started to make a knocking sound. Unfortunately that's going to be an engine replacement for them, so I didn't get paid for that one, but I did get to enjoy hanging around with a friend, just having good fellowship. Welp, that's about it or me, I've got to get off to the shower and then to bed so that I can get up in the morning to go to w**k.
Ken: that's got to be nice to get a huge percentage off like that. I remember what it was like for me when I worked with Dodge, although for me it was a, get the parts at cost and just do the work myself. I still do the work myself now, just don't have the shop building to work in. Oh well, I'll get a building put out here on my property before too long.
Welp, I'm out, talk to y'all later.
Evening Gang:
The rain stopped late this afternoon. I got the cattle fed with out getting wet. We got three inches before it stopped. Some folks just a little north of us got snow. I heard they got as much as 2+ inches. With the drought I don't care in what form the moisture comes just get it here.
I got three of the book shelves moved from under the layout. Now there is one to go and then the big shelves. Of course the problem now is where to put them with all the stuff that was in them. Now I can get under that part of the layout.
Time to hit the sack.
Take Care All
Gooooooooooooooooooooooood evening, BARRY-sized cheeseburger with a bucket of Coke please 'n thank-you.
But first, GOODNESS181: Welcome! I'll let GALAXY give you the full briefing on the Diner, suffice it to say this is the least formal, but most friendly forum you'll likely ever find. In here, we talk about life. We do talk about our model RR stuff too as THAT is the common thread THAT binds us, so to speak. Here you'll find an ear and/or shoulder if you need it. You'll find advice and suggestions. You won't find any jerks...they tend not to stick around very long. "What is the Diner about?" Anything and everything, well 'cept for poly-ticks... In general, think of a diner where friends gather to shoot the bull.
The Wife has been busy lately. She's putting up the indoor plastic window insulation stuff in an effort to warm up the house. She's found THAT she can deviate from the instructions and make what amounts to a "double pane" effect. Very effective! I still have to fight the plastic Christmas shrub in an effort to hang new lights on it. Most of the factory-installed lights are kaputted. Rather than attempt micro-surgery on the ultra-fine broken wires, I figure it'd just be easier to toss a new string on. RIIIIIIIIIIGHHHHHHHT. The first set seemed long enough at the store... it wasn't. The second string seems long enough, but only if it goes on a certain way THAT I haven't figured out yet. I told the Wife I'd try to get it done while she's at her w**k so THAT she won't have to hear all the words my saintly Mother told me to never say...
I told her next year, I'm just putting up a Festivus pole and calling it good enough!
The "airing of grievences" commenced very shortly there-after...
Speaking of "saintly," Mr. LION? I saw where you like Athearn blue boxes for storage and what-not. Do you need any? I have a bunch, in a box, in the attic. Car storage on the future layout will be accomplished on shelves on the layout, so the boxes are just space-takers.
I'll have a seat at the RC (Rivet Counter, for GOODNESS181's sake), and see who makes it in this cold evening.
***EDIT*** OK boys and girls, TOP! Order up for your late supper, late-nite snack, or breakfast in HERR ULRICH'S case. Rerun and I got this.

Rob, sorry you have not been sleeping well I have the same problem lately?? I didn't get any layout work done last night I got home pretty late. I did a little ice road truckin yesterday. (Tis the season!) On the Homasote topic I mentioned yesterday, I was correct. The man from home depot called me and said Boise cascade has it, I gave him my card # and it will be at the my local store today or tomorrow. $28.50 per 4x8x1/2" (If any of you are in need of some.) I bought 5 sheets should have plenty and some left to share with my friends in my club. Well I better hit the road. Ray, I loved you Christmas light display Nice work! LOL!

Well, the water has been turned off this morning as they are preparing to tear up the main road here and redo the piping here...it appeared that we had a cave-in occur sometime yesterday..again.

Goodness 181- Yup, just like Chris said, think of this as a break room or a diner where MRR’s gather to talk about….well anything. The forum out there would get jumbled with all the small talk. Some clubs may ask that all personal talk be kept in the break room and only session talk be conducted in the layout room. Think of this as the Breakroom.
Floor Wars Williamsville Phase One: Entrance and Hallway, has been officially expanded to include the Living Room. Todd (director of Labor) and Missy (Director of Moral Support) are not real happy and will try and negotiate with the Commander of Operations. However, we are not real confident in the outcome. We saw this coming and were hoping things would not come to this. Unfortunately….well. You know. Right now what I’m hoping for is that the flooring is no longer available. What we bought was a special run and no more will be made. Problem is there was some, though not enough, left at Menard’s when she was last there Sunday. She believes there may be more at surrounding Menard’s.
Well I guess I best clean up the mess I’ve made and kinda get the house back in order.

Thayne, The icy roads out here have been to the north. Larry's BIL is up in Alaska. He had a flat with a super single, so he needed road side service. They couldn't get the lug nuts free so the service person decided to air up the tire. The tire blew and caught BIL in the knees, knocked him over, hit his head and was knocked out. Sounds like his knees are pretty bad. He is still heading home. He is a tough one.
Be careful.

Good Morning All,
I will be shopping around for a different vet this week. I have a funeral and viewing to go to this week. I really need to get my decorations up, I’m normally the first one on the street to light up the front of the house, but just been busy with indoor projects.
Some great pictures, thanks for sharing.

Morning All,
At w**k today. High today is 81 F, Tomorrow 83 F, Thursday 70 F. After I got home last night I glued down Talus and ground cover over it so it will be dry come Friday. I need to go to the LHS Friday to get some couplers and look for some weeds for the tiny pond (used all I had). I'm going to send one of my K4s in for a light bulb replacement. I looked at the schematic and was afraid I would end up messing up the loco and up to this point I have not worked on wiring inside a loco.
Jeff- Hope your eyesight returns to normal real soon.
Galaxy- As someone that has back issues but not as bad as yours I can really sympathize. Hope you feel better soon.
Garry- That is a amazing video. I have never seen anything like it.
Goodness 181-
Sue- Hope your BIL is OK.
Everyone take care.

Stourbridge Lion Good Morning MRR Fans where it got down to 1F last night and it's a balmy 3F as I left for work today.
Well, Mr. Stourbridge, I have been meaning to ask you... Why is your LION smoking a cigar???
It is 11 degrees here this morning. This LION has been working on his railroad, and will shortly have it back and running in full automation mode. I will have to adjust the timing between station stops. If I can get the run down to about 18 minutes, I can use each train set three times every hour, if not, I'll need more train sets. I was thinking that I would need two trains on each of the express tracks, but I can live with just one on each loop. I hope I can get their run time down to 3 minutes per circuit. I'll blow past the hidden stations during rush hours, but then hold the trains in hiding at other times so that they may appear to make connections with the local trains.
LION has been dancing with servers this week. My utility infielder died, but the drives appear to be ok, I will rebuild the array and try to reload the computer with an OS, and then try to do a backup from server-7 but that seems to be balky too, and so the last backup I had for the down machine was in July. It should be good. I do not put too muck on this infield machine: Just network utilities, Anti-Virus and stuff like that. I had my downloads library on there, and so my most recent downloads are gone, but the older ones (that I paid for) should be ok. Maybe I should move the download stores to the main file servers, those babies do have excellent back up: Primary and Secondary domain servers running on raid-5 arrays in remote locations to each other, and with a daily incremental backup to a Buffalo Box.
Gotta keep the 'puters running. Consolidated Communications is helping me with they rebuild. They have the contract to keep the network running when I can't do it, they may as well EARN their money, eh?

Cool Picture of the Carriage Shop. My brother (the one in NC) owns an automobile repair place (foreign cars only, thank you) which is located in the old Hackney building. They used to build carriages, but are more recently known for making Pepsi and Coke type trucks. They made all of the Good Humor Ice Cream trucks. Probably not in the building my brother now owns, but the same company nonetheless.
His building looks about like that. Maybe that is what carriage works looks like, eh?
Mornin'!
Zoe, coffee, I need coffee! OK! You can bring me a #2 special, over easy eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sourdough toast please. Huh? Blood sugar? Don't worry about it. It was 110 this morning BTW.....
Goodness Gracious 181, to the diner! Yep, this is thee place at the forum. We do share a lot about what is going on in our lives here both in the Train Rooms and just generally. Only two No-Noes are Polyticks and Religion. Those two topics tend to divide and make folks upset when brought up. Stop in for morning coffee, a mid day lunch, or a full course dinner anytime you want. Tell us a bit about yourself (and give us a name to call you....) and enjoy yourself!
No sooner got up this morning and the phone rang..... 'Twas the Dodge Dealership calling about the exhaust problem on the old Dakota. I grabbed a hearing aid, and sat down. He said, "Good morning, are you sitting down?" They found a crack in the catalytic converter, and a few other things that are just about rotted through as well. Worst case scenario.... $1800! He hopes to be able to save some parts and bring the total down a bit for me. They will use 3rd party components at my request which will save a few bucks. Well (deep subject), at least the Credit Card WAS paid off..... It just postpones putting a new roof on the house one more month (as well as the new hearing aids I need). On the other hand, the truck has been paid for for 7 or 8 years now and only has 65,000 miles on it. Guess I know why i was falling asleep driving it last weekend!!!
If it wasn't for the fact that once every couple of weeks my son needs me to pick up #1 Granddaughter at pre-school and leaves his car (with the car seats for the girls) here and drives my truck to work, I might have said... "Scrap It!"! Last year we put all of 800 miles on it....... THAT said I would like to keep it on the road for another few years until i no longer feel able to use the splitter and haul wood around.....
Thayne, Sue, and others.... Wish I could take credit for the "Holiday Lighting" photo..... That was floating around the web a couple years ago. I just may put up a display like THAT though. I haven't because there aren't any "Snoopy's Doghouse" displays in my neighborhood.... I am trying to find another photo I am sure I saved THAT was around the web a couple years back.....
Best get moving, I have a day full of things to get done THAT should have been done yesterday or before!
Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.
Really neat pics being posted.
Been "thinking of" cleaning the train room. Just need more energy to tackle that task.

Great video Garry,
That is something that we don't see up our way. I don't think there is enough double track main to do it on. There used to be but many years ago it was pulled out. I think that was about the time that CTC. came in.
Now they are hinting that it might be put back because of the volume of traffic.
I especially liked the TOFC units, I think they look so much neater than the containers. And as they passed out of sight I said good bye to my brother Fred and my other brother Fred.
Thanks for posting.
