Good Morning Everyone! I woke up at 3am?? Guess I am stuck in the W**K mode? I cleaned up my mess I had made in the kitchen lunch box, water bottles, man purse, etc... I have a few pieces of wood to cut and install on my bench work then I will be heading to Home depot to get some plywood and order some Homosote. We have a neighbor that lives in her parents home, She likes to sleep all day while her sweet mother watches her son, cooks, cleans, laundry, shopping, etc! What I do because we love the mom. I fire up the mower, weed eater, leaf blower, But today I will be nice. I will let her sleep in until 7am before I open the garage door and fire up my old table saw. HEE HEE! I will see everyone later. get busy!
Thayne.
Good morning,
The MR 75-year collection was delivered in Fridays mail. Very cool to have every MR from 1934-2009 at your finger tips.

Good morning. It's 56° and cloudy. The high will be 70° and we will be having what the weather guesser calls 'partial sunshine'. Looks like mostly cloudy to me.No plans today. I'll just do what I think should be done when I think of it providing I can remember it long enough to do anything about it. I can think of something to do and by the time I've gotten up to - what was I going to do? It can be aggravating at times. Yesterday I sent out a KCS Southern Belle grain car to a friend in north Louisiana. Monday he'll be sending me a well car with containers. I don't know what I'll do with it yet.

Ray .... I like the boiler you are including the the power house.
Rob ... Glad to see you here as always.
Lee .... Sounds like the 75 year MR was a good purchase.
JimCG .... This Imac is running flawlessly, and I wonder about yours. Hope you can be in the diner more often soon.

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a Glazed Sour Cream Doughnut and a few cups of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR Mug please and thank you!
I got up early this morning, showered, put on my Boy Scout Uniform and headed down to the Parochial High School for the big Rechartering Extravaganza this morning. Stood around and yaked for about an hour with a few Scouters, and then came back home... My Units didn't show! I am not happy as now they will be late rechartering and I will have to take another day to meet with them and go to the Service Center and get it all done..... I did get a doughnut out of it for my trouble........
I have to go hook up the utility trailer to the truck so I can go bring home my wood splitter from the Museum early this afternoon...
Jeffrey, I see , on top of all the other things you have, you now have "Old Timers Disease"..... Ah... I was going to tell you something, but I forgot what it was.... Hmmmm.

***Garry, love that photo. Very scenic location and you captured it well.
***Ray, I can understand your sentiments. I'm skipping Christmas this year, except I will send out gifts to my sister's family. Health providing, I plan on putting up the tree next year. Time and will tell.
Only got a few hours of sleep last night. Eyes are dried out again. Other than a few farm chores, will take it easy today. Rob
Oh, I see the Diner has come to rest not far from the old Mile High Stadium. Denver is such a pretty city but the air is so thin I have to inhale three times to get the amount of oxygen that I need.
Chloe, I feel great, I got to sleep in today and it was wonderful. I'll have a re-do on that Mountaineer Special of the other day. It was great. follow that with a H.C. if you please.
GARRY: The winters that I loved were in my early years when I did lots of skiing and snowmobiling and of course sledding with my boys. Absolutley hated the part of winter for the forty years I was on the road. And now still it is just something that we put up with. Not much fun anymore. Too much worry about slips and falls with the accompanying broken hips, ankles, wrists etc.and then that stupid driver somewhere around you that hasn't polished up their winter driving skills. Best to stay in the train room, me thinks....
ROB: Hope you can stay warm until that new wood stove arrives. About the dry eyes. I have somewhat of a problem there but not as much as you seem to have. I handle mine with an over the counter product called "Tears Naturale Free". Inside the box is a number of little plastic vials that you break the end off and drip the solution on to your eye. Works good for me. Also quite reasonable in price.
JEFFERY; having watched my Mother go through the various stages of Altzhiemers I think if we keep busy with our hobby, actively reading about it, learning new skills and sharing thoughts with others such as here on the Forum, that will truly help with keeping that dreaded foe at bay. Not a guarentee, but a major help in not having to give in to it. What say Bro ??
JERRY; How is that new Division of the Illinois Southern coming along ?. We haven't heard any reports lately. Hope you and Sallie are doing well. Have you got the snow and ice tires on those power chairs yet?
Ulrich; So sorry to hear of that set back. However we know you are diplomatic enough that you should be able to arrange things so a person like that has less say or at least is kept from being in the face of the Company. Thoughts and Prayers are with you on that.
LEE: Now that you have that new disk those bridges will never get done. Your modeling will cease, as you just sit in that recliner and read all the past issues of MR on the computer's big screen.
THAYNE: Glad you survived the Big Blow. Also hope that Bridge Tom, Blazzin Keith and all others in the Southwest did as well. Boy I hate the wind. and we get lots of it.
KURT: I am always amazed at the amount of progress you make in a very short time. Whats your secret??
RAY: I'm really liking the looks of that boiler. who is the Mfg of it and what other items do they have ?
CN. Charlie and Bob Seamonster, Get your woolies out, it dropped down here last night about 15 degrees and is very chilly here now even after the sun came up.
Well I had better go and make some things happen.. Maybe put up the tree today then if time allows somemore work on the waterfall area of the LM&E.
Keep smiling guys and you too SUE, it really looks good on ya.

So, how much difference does HP make between tractors? Been looking at 50hp and up tractors to replace my sick little old J.D., before the transmission gives out. Will use it mostly for moving dirt around, including some road building and moving round bales, fallen trees, etc... Doubt I will ever get into trying to bale my own, just because even used equipment for that costs a fortune and I haven't the land to make it viable. Any thoughts?
Sure is windy here today. Rob

I have the same problem. The thing is if I DO remember what I was going to do, My "get up and go" to do it has "got up and gone".
Sometimes I think it's the medcations I take that cause the memory lapses. If not, I hate to see what will become of me when I get older? WIll I become a blathering idot who doesn't make any sense when he talks? I USED to be a good speller {forget teh dyslexic and bad dyslexic typing}, but now I find myself wondering if words like "really" has one "L" or two "L"s. and the word "with" never looks right to me..Assuming I can get it typed out right.
What else was I gonna say? Ah, nuts...

Garry: Ready for winter? If by that you mean do I have the heavy jackets and parkas hanging by the back door with the insulated boots, scarves, toques and mitts, then yes. If you mean psychologically ready, then no, never. I don't like winter. I don't like 30 and 40 below, I don't like shovelling snow, and I miss sitting at the beach looking at the scenery. No, I'm not ready for winter, never will be. At least winters aren't as bad and not nearly as long as they were back in the '70s when we lived 500 air miles north of here.
Johnboy: Will you quit sending that cold and snow our way? I know that our weather patterns move west to east (except for the Colorado lows which take dead aim at us) but couldn't you just divert it a bit north, bend its path a little?
CN Charlie: Try using some rosin core flux (NOT the acid kind used for plumbing) on the joint before applying the solder and heat. And clean the area first. I use flux and have a chisel tip on my iron and the solder flows all over the rail joiner and under it. I have my iron set to about 30-35 watts and I rarely melt any ties. With the higher heat and the flux, I'm not in there long enough for the heat to spread to the ties.

Afternoon folks!
Just a cup of hot chocolate for me right now Chloe...
Got the wood splitter back home. Found out the truck is going to have to go in for an exhaust system check next week.... I got about half way to Canandaigua driving over to the museum and found I could barely keep my eyes open... Then realized i was smelling exhaust from the truck..... Funny no loud sounds as usual from when a tailpipe goes, but none the less I recognized the smell. Rolled down the window and turned the heater to full air exchange and made it out to the museum. By the time the splitter was loaded on the trailer, I was feeling fine. By the time I was half way home with it, even with the drivers side window half way open, I was starting to feel woozy again. Made several stops on the way home to get out of the truck, check the straps on the splitter, and just get some fresh air...
I will need to get it done ASAP as my son will be needing to drive the truck to work next Friday I think!
last mountain & eastern hogger RAY: I'm really liking the looks of that boiler. who is the Mfg of it and what other items do they have ?
Johnboy the Steam Boiler is this one from American Model Builders: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/152-106 They also make a stationary Steam engine which can be used to power belt driven equipment. Unfortunately they don't make a turbine kit..... I will have to scratch build those.
Barry, the boiler is the start of the inside detail for the Power House.
Gettin' chilly here so I best go feed the wood stove....
I see I got the top again. Well, I guess afternoon coffee break (or afternoon tea as they call it in England) is on me. Tea and crumpets for everyone, Flo, and put it on my tab.
Good Evening,
So far the March 1941 issue was the first to have HO scale trains in the advertisements that I’ve noticed. A whole year of MR was $1.50. Of course this was the first issue with a diesel on the cover, the AT&SF Super Chief…
Dorothy surprised me with an early birthday present: 10” Porter Cable portable table saw. The saw folds up into a hand truck. This will be nice when I want to use it down near the train room.
Ray you need to get that looked at! Good thing you noticed right away.
Ray: Got the linkee for that boiler..have something planned for that one...yes, I be looking at doing summat on another HO diorama....
Good Evening..
Well(kind of wet. Frogs swimming abouts) tomorrow is going to be a raining kind of day for us'uns...then we will see some more showers on Monday with a few little tiny snowfluffies for Tuesday now...
I managed to get a few hours of train running ..around and around...and found no issues on the layout..now..on Tuesday, when I be having the fellows up here..I am predicting total disaster will occur...
Chloe, I'll have a BIG ol' Rib Dinner with all the fixin's and a large RBF please..I'll be at the corner booth for now.....
Evening Gang: I finally figured out what was the problem with the Kalmbach web and my computer. I need to run the web in refresh because my computer is old. Anyway that’s part of why I haven’t been in much. Also I haven’t been doing much MRRing due to the busy things that the ranch is needing tended to. We finally got the last of the hay baled. We got a whole 14 bales off of 17 acres. That makes about 160 for the year. Really down from last years 800. Now I hear they are predicting another drought year in 2012.
I have been working on the layout this last month. I got it cleaned off and the basement cleaned up partly. I put up six new florescent lights so that I can actually see what I’m doing. The track is all cleaned and I have run several locomotives that I’ve had for some time but never run. The BLI heavy mike does real well on DC, as do the Walthers H-10-44. These are all DCC equipped. I also ran the Milwaukee Road 1935 Hiawatha from Fox Valley. It runs well but the coupler pins all are too low. These will have to be fixed. My two Walthers H-12-44s in DC run great but they need Kadee couplers. I also got a 2-8-8-2 from Walthers and ran it.
The layout needs to be re-wired since I did not do a good job when I built it 20 yrs ago. I thought about going DCC with it but then I have soooo many DC locomotives that the expense is way out of sight. I’ll wire it with block control and if I hit the jack pot I’ll have them changed over. Until then I’ll just plug along. It’s raining again. It’s been doing that since yesterday and we really need it. I still have to haul in 12 bales of hay but I’ll wait until the rain stops. The weather guessers say that may be Tuesday. Monday they are saying colder with a possibility of freezing rain or snow. That’s ok its all moisture.
Well it’s still early so I am going to leave out and head for the basement. Take care everyone.
Evening All,
Just got back from the club. Ran a I1sa coal drag. Will probably decorate the tree tomorrow before my son goes to work. I picked up a 12 hour OT shift Monday to help pay for Christmas.
I changed the couplers today on all the passenger cars. Four of them didn't need any adjustment, and the rest do. Guess what I will be doing tomorrow? Working on couplers is probably the least favorite task of MRR to me.
A club member had the new Spectrum EM-1 (2-6-6-4). It looked and ran very nicely. I can't wait for the new Mogul.
Hope everyone has a good night.

That's almost too cute for words.
Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Duke .... I hope we did not disturb your slumber too much.
Paul ... Good to see you again. I'm impressed with the locos you have acquired.
Barry ... I wonder about the VW bug converted to a pickup. The rear engine must have been a problem.
Ray ... If you are feeling "woozy", please get a check up ASAP. Don'y brush it off as just one of those flukey things.
Rob ... I hope you are not too cold there.
We still have out-of-town visitors. ...
I'm planning to order one of the new "drop in" sound decoders for Proto E8's made by MRC which will be for one of my CB&Q E8's. Also, I'm getting a dummy GN E7 to go with my new powered GN E7. I will put sound in the dummy along with a decoder for the headlight. Not much else to report with all of the non-MRR stuff going on.
Evenin' folks!
Janie just a decaf for me right now...
Spent some time in the layout rooms tonight... Reinforced the plastic floor/ceiling where the Boilers/turbines/generators will end up. Figured it couldn't hurt as it will be holding quite a bit of weight when it is finished and I don't want to have to remove it when it decides to warp on me... I also started w*rk on the second Steam Boiler. This one should be easier as I know what I am doing... I also decided to fix a couple little items I didn't like on the first one, and in so doing destroyed half of the details on it.... They poped off and flew all over, they did... After a half hour on my hands and knees under the w*rkbench, I did manage to find all the parts.... This time they will get glued on correctly....
Heartland Division CB&Q Ray ... If you are feeling "woozy", please get a check up ASAP. Don'y brush it off as just one of those flukey things.
Garry, only time I got "woozy" was when i was driving the pickup truck.... Doesn't happen when I'm driving the Yaris or any place else... THAT and the smell of exhaust lets me pretty much guess what is going on. I live less than a mile from the dealer/repair shop, and will drive there with the window open... I feel fine now!
I'm going to go join Barry and Duke in the back and soak up some heat from the stove for a bit.
Garry: IIRC the pick up bugs had the same type engine in them..just repositioned a bit though...at least the one my dad had seemed like it...
............................................................................
Anyhooo...I think I's abouts to do the same here...cuddle up to the stove and relax a mite...
Well hey all. Been a good day for me. Although I didn't sleep too well last night, I DID have an excellent day at w**k lots, of sales, lots of customers. Got tomorrow and monday off, so tomorrow will be a church and family/friends day. Monday, not soo sure yet, will probably do a couple side jobs, and try to hit the woods monday afternoon, rain supposed to be moving in, so I might not make it out there to hunt, but it would be nice. Saw my first deer this afternoon when I got home, it was just inside the tree line off the eastern side of my house, startled it as I got out my car after getting off from w**k. It was a doe, but still a deer is a deer. Right now I'm letting my girls have a late night up with mom and dad, we're watching Lion King on blu-ray and then they'll be off to bed. I'm about to see what else I can stir up, then see about heading off to bed. More sleep than last night would be a good idea.
Ray, do please get the exhaust leak checked up as soon as you can, those can be serious.
Welp, that's about it for me, gonna check off here soon. Might pop back in before heading off to bed for myself, if not, I'll catch all of you in the morning.
Chamomile tea, please.
***Jeffrey, nice composition on the black & white pic there.
***ROAR, was there much money in raising cows?
So much for falling to sleep early. Can only stare at the ceiling for so long, then it's time to get out of bed awhile.
