Ribeye steak and one last coffee refill, please.

***Barry, that ALCO looks not that far removed from a crossover between carriage and car. Very cool pic and I'll bet ROAR appreciates the model showing it off.Smile, Wink & Grin

Merry Christmas Eve (Day), Diners! Janie, I'll have a hot chocolate with a sprinkling of cinnamon and some of those mini-marshmallows, in a Santa Fe mug, please. Thanks!

Lee, I definitely hope you can get those stones passed ASAP - not fun at all!

Ken, have you had any signs or clues on possible other jobs so far? Hope you get some improvement in things soon. AngelAngel Hey, just saw your good day and selling up that lady with her (needed) additional repairs! BowThumbs Up Way to go there! (Can you get TIm transferred to another store?...)Whistling

Rob, I'd say aim for erring on the side of caution for your own neck/skin - you don't want a hospital trip, which nowadays could run a bunch more than if you could hire or get someone to help you with it. That does not sound like a one-person job, nosiree! Running trains sounds great. Smile But that tree of yours does look pretty ominous, just a'hanging over the shed like that.Surprise

Hey, Jeff, that's some stacks-o'-paint there! Like Galaxy said, thought you were the spray can king? Wink I'd say you're ready for about any painting jobs at the Sundown shops. Excellent job on painting those resin-cast cars. Thumbs Up And did you wash the castings before you spray prime them? I've heard that it's good to wash the castings to get the release agent off of them.

(Oh, Jeff, I wouldn't worry too much about Galaxy - or any of us in here - catching up with you anytime soon)Whistling

Curt, the hard part this time of year is the waiting (to run the trains), always! Glad the Mogul is running well for you.

And PA Tom, I see that you're a-waitin', also. Whistling Nice that your wife gave you the go-ahead to pre-order. Great to hear about her progress with the PT and healing progress!Yeah

Ulrich, good to see you back again, and doubly good to hear that Petra's helping you perk up your mood. As for your surviving this year, I do know (including..cough, cough.. from personal experience that we Germans are a pretty hardy lot (and are stubborn enough to pull through[oop]Wink). Nice Rio Grande loco there. Yeah

Broadway, I'm with Rob - can that kitty use a chainsaw (or can one of your bigger cats)?

WAIT A MINUTE HERE!! - I saw that Duke got something other than a Berkshire?? Oh, sacrilege! Crying   ...Whistling

Johnboy, nice pic with your post yesterday! I can't tell from the size, is Santa the engineer? Wink

And speaking of our Canadian Diners, any of the white stuff up your way? (Our weatherguessers down here haven't specified)

Barry, on that Alco car, I couldn't see any tender behind it - or is that a diesel?...Smile, Wink & Grin

As for the stocking, I have three hung at my place (one little one from when Sarah was little and would visit me around Christmas time (ah, those were the days - this year she, hubby and the grandsons will be going to his folks for Christmas...). I don't have a chimney, so I guess Santa must come in the duct for the bathroom exhaust fan, I suppose...Smile, Wink & Grin Not sure what Santa might be bringing me, but I don't think it'll be a loco.

It's looking like my planned trip to see my Memphis friend won't happen. A few things got in the way (like personal property taxes, presents, etc....), so will have to put it off until February or so (January will involve car license and whatever changes in my takehome that our lovely Senators and Congressional Reps have left me with...).

Wrapping a few presents, and putting some notes on Christmas cards will be the big thing for my evening. I want to do some 'olde schoole' sketching with a printout of my (future) ideas for a spare-room-sized layout. This time, just general landscaping first, and then see what track arrangements will w**k with that. After church tomorrow morning, I may see about some finishing up on various partially-built structures, and maybe try making some industry signage on the computer.

May your Christmas or Hannukah (or Kwanza, starting Tuesday) be filled with time with family and friends and good food (but not too much...), and may 2012 be better than your best year so far. AngelAngel

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

The spray paint stays outside where it's used, preferably downwind. One whiff of that stuff and I can hardly breath for the better part of half an hour. That's why I don't use enamel model paints. I didn't try washing the casting. I'll try that with the batch that's coming and see if it makes a difference.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

 Fireplace

Good to see so many people here. ... Inch, Duke,  Flip and others, please visit here more often.

Todd .... I probably should not have done my soapbox thing, and I wish others would be skeptical as you are. .... Just about everything reported in the so-called news tends to be distorted. Everybody should  be skeptical of the news. In addition, there are large organizations, such as a well-know group claiming to look out for retired people, that report false information to their members. .... Because I have a lot of experience working with economics and finance, I know much of the stuff reported about the economy and the federal budget simply is not truthful. For example, I have prepared enough corporate budgets to know how companies decide how many people will work for them. Yet, politicians are too dumb to understand job creation. ...... So when I hear stuff contradicting the real world it bothers me. Further, it bothers me people are too willing to believe what they are told without even trying to verify anything. ...... So excuse my spouting off at people in general .... Again, I'm glad to hear you can see through that. ....

Meanwhile, back at the layout, it's time to have fun. Model Railroading is a great way to preserve ones sanity.

I actually was cleaning up the layout room this morning. I had a lot of residue from scenery and so on to clean off teh floor.

 Merry Christmas Eve Fellow Dinners!

Flo, glass of Eggnog spiked with Beer please.

Nothing really to say tonight. Blew out of work today at 3:30 PM and not 5:00 PM. Felt a little bad for leaving Keith there. He has to close the store at 6:00 PM.

Gave Sue her Christmas Git this morning. Gave her $60.00 in cash so she can buy what she wants. Not the Christmas I was hoping for, but better than last year when all I could afford was a $13.00 Electric Can-opener?

Best Christmas so far? 2004! It snowed, spent $800.00 on Wife and $600.00 on my daughter. Sonya (Wolfhound) and Tiffany (American Eskimo) was with us and Sharyon brought over my wife's new Grand Dog.

Merry Christmas all, and all a good night.

Blueberry tea, please.

Unusual night in the train room. All the DC (N) trains performed beautifully. Two engineers started getting into a bit of a race, too. (Yes, I have never entirely grown upWhistling) Anyway, tracks are white glove clean now.

Several problems with the DCC (HO), beginning with the CSX diesel not recognizing it's assigned number, so had to reset it. Then a metal "hose" started gettinh caught in the interesections, so had to fix that. And lastly, the CSX just wouldn't pull the cleaning car all the way around the tracks. Will either need a second diesel to get the cleaning job done, or preferably replace the CSX with a heavy steamer that can still negotiate somewhat tight turns, if such a loco exsists? Wonder if the Mantua 2-6-6-2 Logger weighs more and/or offers better traction than the Atlas U30 B? Or what about a 3-truck Climax? The Bach. 2-8-0 hardly even budges the heavy cleaning car.

Well, think I'll go watch a DVD and vegetate awhile. Feeling a bit dizzy again. Rob

Rob- My Dad has a 2-6-6-2 that I believe is a Athearn. It handles small radius turns well. I don't know about pulling power. I use a diesel with my CMX.

Jeff- Hope you feel batter.

Evenin' and a Merry Christmas to all!

Janie just an decaf please.  eggnog?  No thanks, Had one out at my son's house tonight....  You put what in it for Ken???  eeeeeeuuuuuuuuuwwww!  No we used Dark rum.....  Eggnog and beer???

Rob, I remember all too well what you were feeling earlier when you opened the gifts meant for your wife......  Those things always did a really bad number on me those first couple of years...  Hang in there!  Been there, done that!  I found putting up a tree more than I could handle so for the last 20 or so years I have not had one at all.

Santa arrived about the same I did out at my son's house tonight....  The girls opened their gifts from Grandpa as I was opening some of my gifts.  Livy went nuts over the Thomas the Train toy I gave her.  It is one that will follow a light around (I assume it has to be from the special light THAT came with it, so it isn't really the light but something else that works it)...  Got Emily (2.5 year old) a Thomas the train top.  She has it almost figured out.  When it goes fast enough it makes a steam whistle sound.  They each got a book from Grandpa as well.  I was given a number of tools from MicroMark and a new shirt.  We finally got down to the big one of the evening and I didn't have my camera to capture the expression on my DILs face when she realized I got them an iMac.  Her brother showed up a while later and was ogling the box reading the specs and saying things like, "Oh Wow!" and "holy cow".....  He thinks they are going to love it...  Just a bit more powerful than the old Mac Mini they have had for 6 years.  Since they will still be able to use the old computer, my son already announced plans to have it down cellar in his workshop.  I noticed the "Say What!" look on the better halfs face at the time.  Bet it ends up in the bedroom by her table...

Tomorrow I will be at my sister's house for a noontime feast and then go over to my son's house again for another feast and the present frenzy THAT is the tradition on his wife's side of the family!  May not even bother to take my blood sugar tomorrow night...Whistling

Hope all of you are off to a great start this Christmas!  Prayers for all in need of them.

ROB- instead of Pulling the track cleaner, PUSH it. Told Cape Jim months ago and it works for him. I've been doing it for years.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Better New Year.   Please get help with that tree.

Best wishes and warm regards,

Another Blueberry tea, please.

***Ray, thanks for that. If I am still above ground in a year (which I plan on being) I will put the Christmas tree up. Couldn't begin to even think about that this year.

***Flip, thanks for the tip. Perhaps that is why it worked better last time and I have forgotten to push instead of pull.Hmm Will try it tomorrow.

Good Morning!! Just a quick coffee please. Thanks

Celebrated with the family at SIL’s house last night, then to MIL’s today at oh, about 10 or 11 I think. Yup, mostly the same people. Why twice? I don’t know, just the way they do it and always have since before me. Part Italian, part German’s they are. Ain’t gonna change ‘em and they’ll scream and yell at you for years if you try.Laugh

Garry- Staying off the soapbox myself, (and I know about the organization you referred to also. Afew things didn’t add up), I think you are right. Too many people believe what they are told, especially if it’s what they want to hear. Good or bad. Myself, I trust everyone, until I’m given a reason not to. If you tell me you are really Steven Spielberg, I’d believe you until I found out otherwise, or something else you told me was not true. I just sold a truck on a handshake. He took off with my truck and a signed title and left me with a promise Why, because one, I know him. Not well, but I know him, and two, he’s never given me reason to think he would not pay me. 2 weeks later as promised, he paid me. Would I do that with a stranger, probably not, but under certain circumstances….I just might. Depends on how they strike me. My wife constantly shakes her head saying you’re too trusting. I am, but that doesn’t mean I just believe everything I’m told. One thing I do know however, and if we all remember our Government classes, or U.S. History classes whatever your school called them, to blame the President for any law made, tax, or most anything else, (I say “most” )….well, you’d better go back and read how our country works. You’re barking up the wrong tree. Not holding up for the sitting President or any in the past or future. Just stating non political facts.

OK (ahem) attention all folks with some degree of familiarity with medical issues. I have this little buddy who has a problem with her fingers. She has had it for a few years. They swell up and are painful. They are sensitive to heat also. It is not the joints that are swelling and she has been checked for RA. It actually looks like small bumps all swelled up, but they are not prominent bumps, almost like a swollen rash without really looking like a rash. The Doctors haven’t figured it out, but she doesn’t go much when it happens anymore after they determined she didn’t have RA, like I said the joints aren’t swollen and painful, it’s the fleshy parts that are. Doesn’t hang around twenty four seven either. Lasts maybe two weeks, and may be gone for 2, 3, or 4 weeks, or maybe a month. Food and chemicals have been ruled out. Well by us anyway, we’ve gone down the list of anything and everything she may have eaten or touched different at any time. Not asking for a sound medical diagnosis of course, just any suggestions that you may have experienced or heard of as something to look into would be helpful.

Sounds like "Ultrahydrosis" or some name like that. I get tiny little bumps of fluid {water..hence the "hydrosis" portion}  that build up on my fingers like a rash, especially in warmer {hot} weather. It can also happen during heating season! They come from retaining too much {hence the "ultra" part}  fluid. I pop the buggers with a sterilized needle and that provides some relief from teh ache and *itchyness* that accompanies them. My Dr. said there isn't much one can do. DOn't count that as an expert medical opinion...just my experience Todd.

Merry CHristmas.

Merry Christmas

Our son and his family came over yesterday.  It is so heart warming to see the delight on the faces of the little ones as they tear open their presents.  They're still too young (9 and 7) to be expecting the latest designer clothes or the latest hot game.  On Wednesday, our daughter and her partner will be coming in to the city to celebrate Christmas and her birthday (Dec. 31) with us.  Her daughter, who is 18 y.o. and living on her own in the city will join them.  Today, it's just the two of us and a quiet day at home.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a cup of dark roast and a couple chocolate chip cookies to dunk in it.....  Don't think I will bother taking my blood sugar tonight.  Already know it will be a bit high!  Two huge meals today, and even if I try to be good....  Well, I know I will be eating way too much.  But then, it is Christmas!

Oh....  MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I have a busy day ahead, so I'll catch you all late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Good morning. It's 47° and wet. Rain is falling. The high will be 50° and it will still be raining. There's a 50% chance of rain this morning and afternoon increasing to 70% this evening.

Merry Christmas!

No white Christmas this year. Here that's a good thing as the state doesn't have the equipment or the budget to clear away the white muck. No modeling plans for today. There's a Christmas dinner at my parents place later so I'll be going to that. I got about five hours of sleep last night. That's better than I expected.

Columbian coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Todd, does that condition occure on a fairly predictable schedule? Could it be either hormonal in nature or some kind of cooties? My wife would have been the one to ask, so just throwing out a couple thoughts here.

Forgot to mention the latest electric bill. Continues to be well under $100.- Not bad, but I still want a wood stove, as the cold gets old after awhile. One thing at a time. Did buy an electric blanket recently, which keeps me toasty warm at night...along with the two indoor kitties.

Have a Merry Christmas all.  Cold rain here. Burrr! Had to turn on the heat.
