Evening all.  Just stopping in from running around with my head chopped off.  I haven't been in since I started my vacation, so just a little update from my end of the world.  I haven't been able to work on a single MRR related thing all week long, although it hasn't been from lack of trying.  Monday was a day spent working on vehicles (pastor's daughter has a Mitsubishi Diamante that had two of its three catalytic converters crap out on it), and had a Christmas party to attend that evening.  Tuesday was spent in Montgomery doing all sorts of running around with the wife and our girls (her Dr.'s appointment, last minute Christmas shopping, dinner at my parent's, ect).  Wednesday was spent resting and working on OUR vehicles (needed to replace CV axles in my wife's Honda Odyssey van).  Thursday was a day w**k (so as to give my GM a day off and not stick him working 6 days straight).  Today has been a "quiet" day, if you can call quiet having to run into town to pick up things that were forgotten so that my wife could bake 144 cookies for her family Christmas get-together on Sunday, so yeah, I've not done ANYTHING!

Ok, ok, enough ranting from me, I think I'll have a RBF and a small grilled chicken sammich please.

Ulrich: sorry to hear that you turned in your keys, but I would definitely have to agree with you by standing on your moral grounds of not wanting to be associated with people of such low standards in business.  Keep the faith brother, we're still all here and pulling for you.

Ken: thanks for explaining how your tech's get paid there, I know that everyone is a little different, so I appreciate the knowledge.  On the issue of tickets not being done correctly, you should still have a right to either approach the manager of the store, or even the DM about the book not being followed.  Believe me there are times where corporate rules and regs are there to frustrate you and to cover their hind ends; but you have to remember that the rules are there to be followed.  Worst case scenario, you end up making a final decision to leave the company due to utter stupidity within the management cadre (been there done that).  Best case scenario, you get the ear of someone that actually gives a flip and things start getting done the right way.

Thayne: best of luck on the rest of your layout, hope things roll along rather nicely.  On the issue of locking yourself out of your truck, that's why I always crack the window and keep a coat hangar around....

Welp, guess I'm going to get going, I'm being beckoned to make corn bread for Amy so she can make her cornbread dressing for the thing on sunday....

 Hello Fellow Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

     Them

 __________

       Me

Line has been drawn in the sand, it is time for war. Well it is time to do what I was hired to do, straighten this shop out! Only thing this shop has in common with the way a NTB should be ran is the Logo on the building. While I am not fast on the computer, don't know all the codes and still have not learned everything a Manager needs to know I do know what the biggest problem is. They are doing what ever they feel like.

One of the techs today violated a major safety issue 2 times! Anytime a wheel is removed it has to be torqued too specks by 2 different techs and signed off on the work order. Any person that cash that vehicle out, with out two tech numbers is subject to dismissal! If we have a wheel come off that we worked on, shop manager gets a $1,000.00 fine, Services Manager gets a $500.00 fine, Area Supervisor gets a $500.00 fine and tech get's fired. It is a Big Deal!

Tonight I was handed the work order done my Ricky. It only had 1 tech number on the wheel check. I pulled the car back in and asked Ricky who did the second wheel check? He told me " I did it twice, no need to check it again". Asked Lamont to do the second check, while he was coming over to do it Ricky said "just put your number on it". Lamont did the second check. I was happy and was willing to let the subject drop at this point.

 Round 2

Another car, same thing. This time I was just dismissed about the second sign off by both Ricky and Lamont.  So it is off to war we go!

Going to call Dave (Area Supervisor) Saturday on my day off and give him the run down. Going to ask for the shop. It is time to do it and God knows this shop needs to be ran. Monkeys need to be put back in the cages and new ZOO keeper to step in!

Evenin' folks!

Janie my usual decaf, please!

Got to w*rk on a small audio project for an old friend of mine.  Her Mom lived across the street from us here.  Wonderful lady, and both her daughters are chips off the old blocks, so to speak.  Anyway she has a bunch of old tapes her former MIL made for the family way back in the 70's and early 80's.  i am transferring them from poorly made cassettes to CD for her.  She wants to distribute them to her children this Christmas.  I am trying to take out all the pops and background noise on the old tapes and give her a CD that at least is listenable.  Unfortunately it is a bit slower going than I thought and I will only work about an hour at a time on anything like this.  Want to save what little hearing I still have...  So naturally I did some w*rk in the train rooms today as well.  Didn't accomplish much other than get the siding painted and glued in place.  I made a list of odds and ends I will need to buy to finish wiring up the yard.....

Twas a nice day here in the Finger Lakes with lots of sun, but still some strong wind at times.  Temp stayed in the low 30's most of the day.  may get some flurries tonight, but no significant accumulation....

Prayers for all in need!

Good morning, Chloe.  It looks like Bill & I are the only ones moving this early.  I think waffles will go nicely with my coffee today.

As soon as it is daylight, Larry & I will run, and proceed with the painting.  It looks good, but I need to get back to the layout.

Later,  Sue

Turned colder here again. Suppose that kind of thing can happen in winter.Whistling

Going to have a productive day, even with this darn injured index finger. At least I can bend it past halfway again. Just need to stop bumping it into things. Amazing how important one finger can be doing practically everything.

Morning, all.

Sorry I'm still not in regularly, but I've still been busy lately. Same old stuff going on around here, but I come with great news!

I got into my first choice college, Northeastern!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND, I'm getting over $32,000 a year in scholarships and financial aid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was selected to receive the Dean's Scholarship for $16,000 a year, and I'll be getting another $16,000 in aid! For the first time, Northeastern is a realistic option, because it is so expensive. However, it is not yet definite, because I might have to go to another school if they end up giving me significantly more money. Regardless, I'm so excited!!!

Other than THAT, not much is happening around here. Still keeping busy with sch**l, college applications, scholarship applications, and hockey. Basically no time for trains. There will be none this weekend, but I might run to the LHS later anyway... Mischief

Well, I best get moving on the day's tasks, so I'll catch you all later!

EDIT: Looks like I'm buying! Eat up!

Rob:  Do I know it!!! And to continually bang said finger into whatever it comes into contact with reminds me of that!!Black Eye  BTW...checked with neighbour down the way here..he told me that his New Holland...which is a T6040 works fine for him..he has had no issue with it since he bought it a couple of years ago..Since he works a 700 acre farm here I suspect it might get a fair bit of work...however, that being said, YMMV...

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes, bacon, and a cup of dark roast coffee to keep it company.  Oh, and leave the NYS Maple Syrup here at the booth please!

Everything is white outside this morning!  Yep got some "partly cloudy" overnight.  Less than an inch they say, but still we have some white stuff for the moment.  Won't last long as the big yellow thing is shining.....

Joe!  Congrats!

Today will be much like yesterday as I will hopefully finish the recording I am w*rking on and find some time for trains....

Galaxy.....  All my Christmas shopping has been done except for a few odds and ends for people I don't really exchange with (DILs family), but they always get me something.....

Later!

Coffee refill, please. Hard time getting into gear here.

***Barry, he has a somewhat beefy tractor there. With 200 acres though, he no doubt needs the one he has. I would be more than thrilled with the next model down from his, but that may not be realistic for me.

***Joe, CONGRATS!!!

Good morning. it's 44° and sunny. The high will be 59° and it will be mostly cloudy.

Nothing going on here today. Slept in this morning as I tend to do from time to time.

Morning all,

Only thing planned for today is groceries at Wally World and go to the club later. Our temporary rescue is out walking around but scared and missing her family I'm sure. Tomorrow it's off  to Jacksonville to continue her journey (it's around 2 hours north of here).

I'm waiting impatiently for the 2-6-0 and hopefully it will come in next week, but not sure because of  all the Xmas mail.

We received notice that our copay for MOH surgery is going to be $125. That's a relief, I was expecting quite a bit more.

It looks like my daughter and SIL may be getting close to adapting a set of young brothers. She won't know for sure for awhile but it is looking good. It will be really nice to have grand kids.Big Smile

Joe- Congrats on the school and the money.

Ulrich- I hope your spirits have improved a little. Have you ran your trains lately? They usually lift my spirits.

Everyone have a good day. Prayers for those in need.

JOE- CONGRATULATIONS on your good fortune!!! SOunds like you worked HARD for it!! BTW- WHAT are you going to STUDY????

Well, I went to the grocery store, the bank, the Post Office, did two loads of laundry and got the dishes done. That about wiped me out for now.

going to have heat-n-eat bagged dinner for two for dinner...chicken Alfredo...my fav... MOH doesn't really like chicken so will have to suffer!!! I get tired of BEEF and NOODLES every night, but MOH says can eat every night and NOT get tired of it? FIsh and dead pig thrown in once in awhile is OK...but Oh, MY..."had to eat chicken ALOT when a child" so tired of Chicken. But BEEF is getting expensive! so I get to throw in more chicken MOH says will "have to choke down"!! Chicken I LOVE. MOH is very piocky eater...I think I have said that before,,,, so I have cooked the way MOH likes MOST Of the time. Can't have FISH too often either.....as a good Catholic family MIL fed Fish on Wednesday because it Wednesday, adn OH< POOR MOH!!! HAd FISH every Friday for 40 days during LENT too!!!!! POOR BABY. At least MOH HAD food....and a full tummy growing up!!! MIL is German and grew up during WWII, so food was often scarce in Germany...you ate what you could get your hands on, no matter what it was!!!

Well, FIL called so MOH will be late as I am SURE FIL wants MOH to "bring something for dinner for them" after work. Just found out WHAT the FIL wanted. Wanted MOH to "bring a can of ready-to-spread frosting for a  cake"!!!!!!! because "we don't have any"!!!! Get real. My goodness.

MIL placed order for Christmas Dinner. SHe thinks it may be her last. But she's said that for the last 2 years too. It will be Crock Pot CHicken {again MOH will have to suffer} with Stew Veggies {potatoes, carrots, pearl onions, cellery} and stuffing with gravy  on the side. I don't really have to cook it...just heat and take and make Stove Top STuffing box and heat bottled gravy there. Easy way. I can't put on big Family dinners anymore, my back can't take it. Plus, since MIL doesn't go out, we have to cart all the dinner stuff over there. It will be easy. ..c rock pot and small bag withteh gravy and stuffing in it. Two pans to dirty there so dishes will be light. FIL doesn't like to do dishes at all...even though he has a built in DW that all he has to do is load, run and empty!!!

Oh well...

Cool black & white loco transport pic. That is an impressive move. As for that New Holland, the biggest (most $$$) I could see having a realistic shot at might be their T4020. Sure would like to have that clutchless power shuttle, but they sure charge for it. Could get more tractor in the same price range if going with a more basic model. Tough choice. Plenty of makes & models still to look at.

Not getting as much done as I had hoped to today. Just chipping away here and there, mostly farm stuff thus far.

While in here, coffee refill, please.  Rob

Flo, Beer pleases, and but the Collage Kid dinner on my tap as well. Way To Go Joe.

Talk with Dave today and he has given me the go a head on handing Ricky at work. At first Dave said he would handle it, then I pointed out I had to. Did not want to be the guy that runs to the boss and cry's. He did agree and I will take care of writing Ricky of writing him up.

Well, time to nose around the site and build some rolling stock.

Sir Madog

Ho,ho, ho!

Santa has moved the Diner to its new location, ready for the upcoming holiday season!

We are not at the North Pole, but in high country, just to make sure there will be a white Christmas for us!

Denver is the place - a good chance to spend the holiday  money at a certain hobby shop!

Welcome, Gang!

Here is a trail of bread crumbs to the old place.

Not to rain (snow?) on your parade at all, but here in Denver it will be almost fifty degrees all next week after Monday...by Christmas I expect to be out on the golf course (after I work on my layout some)!

     p.s.....keep your chin up, Ulrich!

Evening All,

Back from the club tonight. I found out one of our club members passed away. Frank was a older gentleman that always had a smile on his face and a pleasant word for everyone. He will be missed. Please include his family in your prayers.

Tomorrow I have the drive North to do so I will check in later in the day.

Everyone take care.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just my usual decaf please.  I'll be in the back booth by the stove....

Cold out there tonight in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 17°F and there is a blanket (albeit a thin one) of white stuff all around.

Got a few more songs from the tapes done today.  Had one that I knew I from years ago...  Fairly common old Christmas Hymn.  Could not come up with the first line of it and the name.  I got out several old hymnals I have laying around and my large collection of Christmas stuff I inherited at the first school I taught in.  Spent about 45 minutes trying to find it.........  Finally called the lady I am doing the project for and hummed it for her over the phone.  She also knew the song but couldn't come up the name either so she suggested I call the choir director from church.  I called her told her what was going on and hummed it over the phone.  She said, "That's Infant Holy, Infant Lowly!  We're doing it as one of the hymns on Christmas Morning......."  DUH!

Also got a bit more done on the trackwork I am doing.  Installed another turnout and made up the stright track for the siding.  Cut and stained another 100 ties.  Tomorrow afternoon I should get the first area finish and running, I hope.  Have some electrical feeds to add as well as one more Torti.  This is an area I am both ripping up the old Atlas track, and adding some new sidings.

Curt, I will keep Frank's Family in my prayers!

Hope you all have a great night!

Howdy ...

Joe ... That's great news! It certainly is great to have outstanding young people such as yourself in the Diner. Have you decided what your major will be?

Ulrich ... I'm very concerned about you. You are a great friend here. I'm not certain what happened but it sounds like there may have been some unethical stuff going on or something like that. As difficult as it was, your leaving may have been the most honorable thing to do. I'm glad your son and girl friend will be with you at Christmas.

Curt ... Sorry to hear about loss of your fellow club member. Sounds like he will be missed.

Rob ... I hope you have been able to keep warm these days.

Barry ... You old photos are remarkable.

Bill T ... I like the old dining car pictures.

We're going to Nashville, TN to make a Christmas time visit with relatives. It will be a full day.

Here are a couple more pictures of our Amtrak trip a few summers ago.

Chamomile tea, please.

***Curt, sorry to hear about your friend Frank. Healing thoughts (those I can muster) to his family.

***Garry, sure enjoy seeing your trip pics. As for staying warm, had to turn on the heat tonight. Trying not to, depends on how this body of mine is responding to colder weather. Soemtimes I must push the "on" buttong to take knock down the chill. Going to try getting through this winter without buying the wood stove, or at least until I get through probate.

Actually made it into the train room this evening. Dug out some foam and sheetrock mudded some scrap piles into place along an edge of the HO layout.

Have a good night all. Rob

Good Morning Gang!

Only a week to go till Christmas! I am shocked how fast time moves on. Petra and I are still behind in terms of having a Christmas spirit, but I am sure it´ll come when our son joins us on the 25th. We haven´t seen the little one for quite some time now and look forward having him mess up our place, like he always does when he is around. Funny, it takes only three minutes for him to do that.... Whistling

Garry & all others - unethical is a very mild word for what has been going on in that company. The only good thing to say is, that the owner is beyond doubt. Unfortunately, he will be held accountable for most of the bad things his partners and employees did. He is a good guy, but way too trusting.

I still feel somewhat paralyzed now, I had a lot of hopes attached to that job.

Curt - I am sorry to hear about your friend´s passing. Our Angel go to his family.

Joe - congratulation on that scholarship!

Barry - interesting picture. The loco is definitively built according to Reichsbahn specs. I did not know that Beyer Peacock built locos for Germany.

Well, I´ll be only having a mug of coffee, Janie, please.

Blessings to all of you.

Good morning, Gang.  A quick coffee before I start painting.  I am hoping for the end of this project.  I am working 4 days next week, so no painting until Friday.  No Christmas decorations this year.  We are liking the new color.

Joe,  Congrats.

Curt, Sorry to hear about Frank.

Ulrich,  Cheer up there is always something better out there waiting to be discovered.

Good morning. It's 34° and sunny. The high will be 52° and it will be mostly cloudy.

Curt: Sorry to hear about Frank passing on. That day comes for all of us eventually.

Today I'll take some time to get the layout cleaned up. After working on some projects it's cluttered again.

Went to my parents place yesterday to take them their mail and sort through my mail from the past three days. Mostly junk, a couple of credit statements, a review that had to be done and sent back to the OFS Office and a letter from Social Security. Got the OFS review done so my small amount of food stamps will keep coming. Letter from SS says I'm getting a COLA increase of $24. About time. They used every excuse in the book to deny increases for the past two or three years while the cost of living increased. Had an early dinner with my father. Beans and rice with sausage and onions, french bread with garlic butter. I made a big dent in the Tabasco as usual. He gets the big bottles just as I do. That's pretty much it for yesterday.
