Good Morning All,

Galaxy, glad to hear your feeling a little better.

Curt, best wishes on her surgery and hopes of a speedy recovery.  Is it a change in room humidity messing up your track?  I laid my track and let it do its thing for a year before ballast just to see what adjustments needed done.  Then again my layout is a little larger than yours and in a basement…

Fan vs. knuckles hurts!  I’m glad it was just a glancing blow!

Stourbridge Lion, my 2003 F-250 has 133,000 miles on it and I hope to keep it for another 5 years.  I just read an article that 15 f-250’s almost same year with the same engine (7.3L diesel) just passed the 1,000,000 mile mark.  I hope your getting a good replacement…

Ray, mine is not undercoated and I’m just now starting to get a little visible rust.  I’ve been running it through the car wash a couple times a month to keep the undercarriage rinsed off.

Sue, good luck.  This is the first year in 12 years I have not decorated the house.  During the good weather days I found myself helping friends with their house projects and not having the time to do my own.  There are so many issues this year as we approach the 77” of rain fall mark, the most rain fall in a single summer since they started keeping records up here.  I’m finding more issues as it gets colder outside: bottom set of bricks on the front porch are rotted and undermined, same with the side porch, corner trim on siding needs replaced, and the front roof shingles are starting to weep.  Even my front sidewalk has sunk 3” since March.  We really need the ground to freeze hard to prevent any more damage until our wallets can recover a little.  I figured I spent $10,000 this year on home repairs and modest remodeling projects.  Most of the $10K went to stop the water from coming in or wind damage repairs.  Next year I need to take care of myself and my projects; sorry friends but I can’t help you if I can’t help myself first…

I received my first natural gas bill since I installed the new windows in the back of the house: December 2010 average temp was 47f and December 2011 average temp was 40f and my natural gas usage was down 47% when compared to December 2010.  Budget payment went from $130/mo to $25/month.

Good Morning

Bit late today..we were up at silly o'clock due to friends having fun running choo choo's and doing the jamming thing here...

Rain today and tomorrow..forecasts seem to be calling for about 2.5" here...and highs near 55F....

So today we are finishing up the decorating with the little Spring in our tree...

David: I'm with the others...ouch!!!!!!!!  The only car related injury I got was from having a wrench coming apart..and I ending up on my keister....

Flo, I'll have a coffee for now please..I'll be at the corner booth..

Mornin'!

Zoe, I'll have a breakfast Bagel with bacon and cheese and a cup (maybe 3) of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR Mug please.  I'll sit at the other end of the diner from Stourbridge this morning......

Awwww, Galaxy, we noticed you were missing.  Even missed you we did.  Just figured you were still having the headaches and stuff and just didn't say anything......  Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better!

There is a bright round yellow thing shining outside at the moment...  The calm before the storm is here today.  Currently 46°F outside.  We will be getting a touch of what Barry has described tonight and tomorrow.  Way too warm here for December!

Need to get doing the laundry so I'll finish my coffee and be gone for a bit.

Later!

 Morning, I think?

 Flo, Coffee Please.

Slept late today, did not get up till 8:00 AM. Not a drop of caffeine in the house. Sigh Had to make run to the store all ready to get some coffee. Had to have some, or I was not going to do anything today.

Today I have the Appeal Conferences call with IHDA about helping me keep the house. I am not looking forward to that call. All so have to call Bank Of Stupid about getting my loan modified. I am sure they are going to tell me again they can't because I an behind. But VA rep said it can be done at anytime? We will see.

Thing that is weighing the most on my mind, I have no idea how much this next check will be?

Well, got to get the trash together so I can make the trash run.

   See you all later.

Just stopping by to say I am still around, but have very little energy left. The day at the banks went quite well and we have made a big step in the right direction. There is still a lot of w*rk left. I hope to be able to finish most of it until Christmas, just to have enjoyable and relaxing holidays. Will keep you informed.

Galaxy - good to see you´re back - I was worried.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe I'll have a hot chocolate and one of those vanilla ice cream cover brownies with chocollate syrup to tide me over to suppertime....

Ulrich, good to see you, sir!  Hope things continue to turn for the better with the company, and they see the important contribution you are making.

A member of the R&GV RR Museum forwarded this to our membership.  It is in celebration of the 100 year history of Winnipeg's Union Station.  It was commissioned by VIA Rail Canada and shows the importance of rail service to the Nation of Canada during the century it has been in service.  Some fantastic footage!  I know Barry and others will enjoy:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OtQC263gVQ&feature=youtu.be

Decaf coffee, please.

***Ray, excellent video. It is remarkable how early rail was constructed and just how much of it, too. That short clip of the steamer snow plowing is very cool.YesCool

***Jerry & Galaxy, good to see you in here again.

It was warm enough today to open up the house for a few hours. Hope this continues, as I don't look forward to the next power bill. Got to the point the cold was getting to me so had to turn the heat on at night. Holding off on the wood stove (and everything else) until I know for certain finances will be OK. That might not be until the end of Jan.. Oh well.

Haven't had a chance to post for a while and so I've got some catching up to do.  Here goes.

V8Vega:  Only $3.39 a gallon for gas?  Lucky you.  In Canada we measure gas in litres, a bit smaller than a quart.  That works out to 89.5 cents a litre.  Our gas prices have dropped to $1.10 a litre which would be $4.16 a U.S. gallon.  I hope they're still that low tomorrow morning when I fill the tank.

Jeffrey:  Haven't  you got a nice female voice on your reader?  Our GPS has an assortment of voices and I like to set it to a female Australian accent.  Drives the wife crazy.

Howmus:  We have a salt problem on the roads here too.  They don't use much salt but when it's slippery they'll mix it with sand and put it down on the intersections.  Considering that it's sort of raining a tiny bit today and the temperature will go well below freezing tonight, it should be fun when I go out tomorrow morning.  At least it's not as bad as those folks who live near the sea.  The salt air just corrodes everything.  When I bought our new car a year ago (it will be exactly one year on Friday) they installed one of those electrical current rust inhibitors under the hood.  Don't know how well it works.  Only time will tell.  Supposed to work like the sacrificial anode in a hot water tank.  But, in the long run, every car will get rust on it somewhere eventually.

Cudaken:  That doesn't sound like a particularly good place to work.  I hope you can find somewhere else to work.

Galaxy:  I can sympathize with you about your migraines.  After receiving a severe head injury in a single vehicle car accident in my youth I was plagued with the most horrendous headaches for the next 30 years.  If, on a scale of 1 to 10 a migraine was a 10, some of those headaches were 20s.  I was eating the strongest painkillers I could get with a prescription like they were candy.  The headaches suddenly disappeared after 30 years, almost to the month.  They never did find out exactly what caused them (other than the obvious accident injury) despite giving me every neurological test available at the time.  I feel for you.  I know what it's like.

Ulrich:  I hope things improve on your job front and your employers recognize the contributions you're making to the company.

Well, it's off to do my Christmas shopping tomorrow morning.  Considering how crowded the stores will be and how crowded the parking lots will be I should be in the same mood as one of the Lion's kitty cats who has missed feeding time.

 Evening Fellow Dinners

 Flo, Beer please.

Been a interesting day. This is all about me keeping the house stuff.

Had the conferences with IHDA (ILL Hardest Hit Program) and I won the appeal! Smile, Wink & Grin Well, they said I did, we will see. Reason I was turned down was because when I started the paper work in Oct I was not working. Now that I am working, they will help. (Still not holding my breath) Hum, if you are unemployed and can't help why did they have me start the paper work in the first places? Whistling

Called Bank Of Stupid Next. Told my rep what IHDA was doing for me, getting me caught up and should make the next 6 house payments for me. Well Great News! But now for the kicker, My VA Loan Can Only Be Modified If I Am Behind? Bang Head

So in a nut shell, IHDA will get me caught up, then after they make the next 6 house payments, I have to let my self get behind again, so I can get the Loan Modified? Bang Head

Another fine example of Big Banking And The Government Working Hand In Hand. Whistling Folks, this country is screwed!

Picked up Tiffs ashes today from the vet. Hard to believe she has been gone for 2 months now. Sigh

This weekend her ashes will be taken to Build A Bear and placed in a stuffed American Eskimo dog.

Train Score! Went too K-10 Model Trains today and was hopping to see a Bachmann EM-1 first hand. Well, Ken is not going to stock them so I did not get to see one first hand. But, guess what I did find? Found 3 new Blue Box 55 foot center flow hoppers for only $6.95 each! Big Smile Seems they found some forgotten about stock, and just put them out. I had just missed out on a pair BB SD-40's that sold for only $25.00 each. Well you cannot win them all.

Like I need anymore Rolling Stock. Guess it is just a sickness most of us have. I have around 80 cars that I don't have room for yet I could not pass up a good deal? Guess it is time to count what I still have in the way of rolling stock, I have gave away a lot of stuff over the years.

Galaxy I did miss seeing your posting, but I have been wrapped up in my own problems and kept forgetting to ask where you where.

Ulrich Glad to see you back posting. Hope things still work out for you and the company you are helping. Be nice to see some $ as well.

Well, going to watch some NCIS and work on the new Rolling Stock.

The weekend I was working under the table so to speak.  I was wiring under the layout.

Then I was under the weather, and still am. Hope to be okay by tomorrow.

Seamonster....I have had Migraines form about age 16 on. My mother had them and if they are hereditary, I got 'em. Just had a MRI done which they didn't have in the days long ago...didn't show up anything. My mothre's sister has had a constant headache for about 30 years to, SHe went to a clinic and they decided to cut the nerves up the back of her neck, which DID cut out the pain...for about 2 months. I seem to get them when the wearther/barometric pressure changes  a lot. Spring and fall when it does that a lot I suffer greatly...2-3-4 day headaches. I have all kinds of pain killers in my arsenal. SOmetimes one will work sometimes not.

Ulrich- I lurked a time or two and wondered about YOU, sir, as I didn't see you posting. I see you are busy working...for a paycheck I hope??? Leading to one???

Jeffrey- I read aobut your sense of humor, or your claim to lack thereof. If many of you haven't figured out by some of my postings {although I often don't humorize them as I don't want it misconstrued}, I have a very dry and often sarcastic sense of humor too. I tend to dead pan someting that turns out humorous- much like Bob Newhart {for those who remember/ watched him}.

Well, it is raining now. Went to a neigbors who gets "goodies" {breads and sometimes goodies} from the local grocery store {which happens to be the chain MOH works for}. They are about to be day old and gets to distribute them among the "poor" in the trailer park. AS we are a favorite couple of hers {though we don't know why as she is very religious- anohter story}, so I am about the 3rd person she calls on WEdnesday, "goodie day". I went later this evening and boy oh boy the humidity about knocked me over makes it hard for me to breathe when so humid in the air. She kept urging me to take stuff..so I did. I usually only take 3 items for the two of us...leaving plenty for those who have families..but apparently tonight she wants to get rid of stuff... MOH COULD have gone,,.,but never does {feeling like a beggar is the answer} and told me to "get bread"...I came home with Pumpersnickle, rye, sourdough, french peasant loaf, bagels, chocolate dunking doughnuts {the heavy ones}, and one or two more! Two bags full, and of course the religious tracts for the month. A good haul overall. can we eat it all before next Wednesday when ti will go bad? DOn't know..MOH likes to toast bread and eat it...and can afford the calories...I CAN NOT.

We went out to Friendly's to eat...our once a month-if-we-can-afford it binge...they don't have discounts for AARP members so we may not go again! Denny's does, and our usual haunt is there...

well, I have tfalked enough, and only 2-3 hours to bed time, so I bid you all g'nite!

Good Evening Diners,

Well another mild day here in Winterpeg, we hit 30F which is very warm for us this time of year.

Ray, thanks for posting the clip about the station here. It was very interesting as I recognized a lot of the scenes. They did get the time line a little mixed up as some shots shown were actually later than indicated but we'll just put it down to poetic license. Also a shot of a rail yard was actually the CP yard and the shot dated 1939 was actually in front of the CP station, not the CN. I do remember going to the CN station as a kid and it was always exciting. A lot of the station is now inaccessible as it contains a lot of offices and some of it is small shops but Via does still use it. It also contains a railway museum that includes the first locomotive in western Canada, the Countess of Dufferin. That is probably more info than you wanted.

Galaxy, nice to see you back and glad to hear you are feeling better.

I'm typing this on the new computer. First post using it. We've only had it for 6 months, why hurry? It is set up at the office desk and Robbie is curled up underneath. Funny in that it is the same spot Pippa used to be in whenever I was here.

Well time for a little TV , coffee and one of those great mincemeat tarts I bought. They were always my Dad's favourite Christmas treat so I guess the apple doesn't fall that far from the tree.

Salt & Vinegar Chips, please.

***Garry, hope you are feeling better very soon.

My sister game em a GPS for Christmas this year. Told me which package it was in and to open it early, which I did. Now, if it would take the form of T-X from Terminator, Rise of the Machines, now that would really be something. Haven't tested it yet, but if there are assorted voices to choose from, that sounds interesting.

Can hardly keep my eyes open tonight. Think I'll hit the hay early. Good night all.

Jeff- Hope you had a nice time on Ft. Polk.

Oh I did. My mother and I went there in my father's car (Marquis) and he drove her car (G6). I'm not comfortable driving the G6. The brake pedal is too close to the gas pedal so until the brake pedal is modified there's too much of a danger that my boot will snag the brake. He had to remain on post because he was due on shift right after the dinner, hence the need for us to go in two cars. Most of the food was Wal-Mart deli fare. It was a nice low key event with employees, their families and some friends in attendance and I got to see some friends I haven't seen in a couple of years. Some of them were surprised how much my physical appearance has changed in a short time. I'm weaker now than I was just a couple of years ago and a lot of my muscle mass is gone. Photos of me then and now looks like two different people. The only constant in life is change. On the way home we had to wait at the Ford Stewart Road crossing for a KCS general freight to pass. That's only three miles from home by road, slightly less than a mile and a half as the crow flies. I took my mother to her home where I picked up my van then returned to my home. By then I was pretty well wiped. I made a few postings online then crawled into bed to get some sleep. After a couple hours sleep I've been watching some shows I recorded on the DVR. A couple of Monster Jam freestyles and something from the SYFY channel called 'Snowmageddon'. Looks like your typical class B disaster flick. Other than that, nothing going on today.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie I'll have my usual cup of decaf to warm me up.  I'll be in the back booth by the stove for a while.

Glad that many of you enjoyed the video.  I watched it twice just for the steam clips.....

Today was the first day in ages that I spent some quality time in the layout rooms.  Tomorrow I have a lot of stuff I must get done so there won't be much time for trains...... Grumpy  OK, one of the things I will be doing is going to a Museum Meeting...  Of course the program will center around trains... 1/1 scale.

I creosoted some ties:

Started putting in the new turnouts and track.  Mid afternoon the area looked like this:

A few minutes ago right before I turned off the lights and came upstairs the same area looked like this:

The straight track (siding) isn't glued in place yet.  Still have to paint the PC ties.  Then it will be glued down to the regular ties.  Hopefully you can see the difference between the new turnouts and the old Atlas ones........

Prayers for all in need!  Have a good night everyone!

Good Morning Gang!

Gosh, I just realized that there are only 9 more days till Christmas. In Germany, the big day is Christmas Eve. It´s about time I start to think about a little present for Petra. I will use the remains of my train money on it, but it won´t be enough for something big.

The last few weeks have been like a crime story. I dug deep into the company´s records, just to get a background on the bank debts of it. I unearthed two serious cases of fraud and initiated legal charges against two former business partners. The cases are pretty waterproof now, which helped me a lot negotiating new loan arrangements with the banks. It also cut the owner of the business from the hanging tree. He is a good guy, but lacks that safety valve when it comes to selecting the right partners for his business. My Christmas gift to him is that he will be able to keep his business and even make a living out of it - not a big and fat one, more of a very basic one. From next year on, I will be on his payroll, with the same meager salary and an option for partnership as business improves. It´s not a bright future, but at least a silver lining at the horizon.

The weather has been frightening over the last weeks - lots of Storm and Umbrella. No prospects for a white Christmas this year.

Have a good day, everyone!
