Blueberry tea, please.
Unusual night in the train room. All the DC (N) trains performed beautifully. Two engineers started getting into a bit of a race, too. (Yes, I have never entirely grown up) Anyway, tracks are white glove clean now.
Several problems with the DCC (HO), beginning with the CSX diesel not recognizing it's assigned number, so had to reset it. Then a metal "hose" started gettinh caught in the interesections, so had to fix that. And lastly, the CSX just wouldn't pull the cleaning car all the way around the tracks. Will either need a second diesel to get the cleaning job done, or preferably replace the CSX with a heavy steamer that can still negotiate somewhat tight turns, if such a loco exsists? Wonder if the Mantua 2-6-6-2 Logger weighs more and/or offers better traction than the Atlas U30 B? Or what about a 3-truck Climax? The Bach. 2-8-0 hardly even budges the heavy cleaning car.
Well, think I'll go watch a DVD and vegetate awhile. Feeling a bit dizzy again. Rob
Merry Christmas Eve Fellow Dinners!

Nothing really to say tonight. Blew out of work today at 3:30 PM and not 5:00 PM. Felt a little bad for leaving Keith there. He has to close the store at 6:00 PM.
Gave Sue her Christmas Git this morning. Gave her $60.00 in cash so she can buy what she wants. Not the Christmas I was hoping for, but better than last year when all I could afford was a $13.00 Electric Can-opener?
Best Christmas so far? 2004! It snowed, spent $800.00 on Wife and $600.00 on my daughter. Sonya (Wolfhound) and Tiffany (American Eskimo) was with us and Sharyon brought over my wife's new Grand Dog.
Merry Christmas all, and all a good night.

Todd .... I probably should not have done my soapbox thing, and I wish others would be skeptical as you are. .... Just about everything reported in the so-called news tends to be distorted. Everybody should be skeptical of the news. In addition, there are large organizations, such as a well-know group claiming to look out for retired people, that report false information to their members. .... Because I have a lot of experience working with economics and finance, I know much of the stuff reported about the economy and the federal budget simply is not truthful. For example, I have prepared enough corporate budgets to know how companies decide how many people will work for them. Yet, politicians are too dumb to understand job creation. ...... So when I hear stuff contradicting the real world it bothers me. Further, it bothers me people are too willing to believe what they are told without even trying to verify anything. ...... So excuse my spouting off at people in general .... Again, I'm glad to hear you can see through that. ....
Meanwhile, back at the layout, it's time to have fun. Model Railroading is a great way to preserve ones sanity.
I actually was cleaning up the layout room this morning. I had a lot of residue from scenery and so on to clean off teh floor.

JimRCGMO Hey, Jeff, that's some stacks-o'-paint there! Like Galaxy said, thought you were the spray can king? I'd say you're ready for about any painting jobs at the Sundown shops. Excellent job on painting those resin-cast cars. And did you wash the castings before you spray prime them? I've heard that it's good to wash the castings to get the release agent off of them.

Merry Christmas Eve (Day), Diners! Janie, I'll have a hot chocolate with a sprinkling of cinnamon and some of those mini-marshmallows, in a Santa Fe mug, please. Thanks!
Lee, I definitely hope you can get those stones passed ASAP - not fun at all!
Ken, have you had any signs or clues on possible other jobs so far? Hope you get some improvement in things soon. Hey, just saw your good day and selling up that lady with her (needed) additional repairs! Way to go there! (Can you get TIm transferred to another store?...)
Rob, I'd say aim for erring on the side of caution for your own neck/skin - you don't want a hospital trip, which nowadays could run a bunch more than if you could hire or get someone to help you with it. That does not sound like a one-person job, nosiree! Running trains sounds great. But that tree of yours does look pretty ominous, just a'hanging over the shed like that.
(Oh, Jeff, I wouldn't worry too much about Galaxy - or any of us in here - catching up with you anytime soon)
Curt, the hard part this time of year is the waiting (to run the trains), always! Glad the Mogul is running well for you.
And PA Tom, I see that you're a-waitin', also. Nice that your wife gave you the go-ahead to pre-order. Great to hear about her progress with the PT and healing progress!
Ulrich, good to see you back again, and doubly good to hear that Petra's helping you perk up your mood. As for your surviving this year, I do know (including..cough, cough.. from personal experience that we Germans are a pretty hardy lot (and are stubborn enough to pull through[oop]). Nice Rio Grande loco there.
Broadway, I'm with Rob - can that kitty use a chainsaw (or can one of your bigger cats)?
WAIT A MINUTE HERE!! - I saw that Duke got something other than a Berkshire?? Oh, sacrilege! ...
Johnboy, nice pic with your post yesterday! I can't tell from the size, is Santa the engineer?
And speaking of our Canadian Diners, any of the white stuff up your way? (Our weatherguessers down here haven't specified)
Barry, on that Alco car, I couldn't see any tender behind it - or is that a diesel?...
As for the stocking, I have three hung at my place (one little one from when Sarah was little and would visit me around Christmas time (ah, those were the days - this year she, hubby and the grandsons will be going to his folks for Christmas...). I don't have a chimney, so I guess Santa must come in the duct for the bathroom exhaust fan, I suppose... Not sure what Santa might be bringing me, but I don't think it'll be a loco.
It's looking like my planned trip to see my Memphis friend won't happen. A few things got in the way (like personal property taxes, presents, etc....), so will have to put it off until February or so (January will involve car license and whatever changes in my takehome that our lovely Senators and Congressional Reps have left me with...).
Wrapping a few presents, and putting some notes on Christmas cards will be the big thing for my evening. I want to do some 'olde schoole' sketching with a printout of my (future) ideas for a spare-room-sized layout. This time, just general landscaping first, and then see what track arrangements will w**k with that. After church tomorrow morning, I may see about some finishing up on various partially-built structures, and maybe try making some industry signage on the computer.
May your Christmas or Hannukah (or Kwanza, starting Tuesday) be filled with time with family and friends and good food (but not too much...), and may 2012 be better than your best year so far.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.

***Curt, EXCELLENT sounds out of that Mogul.
Only took over an hour to take a bale of hay through 2 gates and no more than 30 yards to the hay ring. Knew I would not make it out to the pasture this time, so removed a section of fence, piled rocks in the soft mud and was finally able to take a bale out to the middle pasture without much concern for getting stuck. Need to order a dump truck load of medium rock though, as even my fix isn't going to last if it keeps raining much.
Went ahead and opened gifts from my sister's family early. Everything was for my wife, with the exception of one item: "RAILROADS Tracks Across America", a DVD. Cool, gives me something more to watch, since I no longer get satellite.
Will be in the corner booth awhile. Better get a cup of ice water to soak this finger in...it's killing me after having to use that hand to pull nails.

Ah just a technicality........ I tend to personally follow the ancient ideas, probably comes from my love of the Elizabethan period of English history.... I became a big fan of Elizabethan Music, poetry and drama (Shakespeare, Sir Francis Bacon, et al!) back in college at Eastman. Therefore, Midnight is just that, halfway through the night with the new day starting at sundown. A Midsummer's Night's Dream was for Midsummer, the Summer Solstice which to them marked half way through Summer, etc. I rather like the concept of the day going from darkness into light just as our lives should be enlightened as we journey on our paths.... I know, I am a bit weird. Lion, may you and your Brothers be (as a Black Baptist Minister friend of mine says) "Well Blest" in this Christmas Season and in the new year!

Dar n, Jeffrey, around here the CVS will contact your Dr. and get a renewal if your med refills run out. Unless it's been a year or more since you last saw the Dr. in person, he will renew them over the phone for ya. Doesn't that apply in your case??? Or is your Dr. A stickler for visits? If he is, I'd find a new one maybe. My Dr. is so good, he took my list of meds and renewed all of them at the pharmacy that flooded {and reopened} so I DIDN'T have to call ALL my Dr.s to get them switched back to the old pharmacy once it reopened! What a sweet Dr.!!! He's really nice. I switched to him after my Dr. of 15 years moved his practice and my new Dr. is MOH's Dr, who was taking new patients at teh time in case patients wanted to switch to keep the same office as my old Dr. had. {a Lourdes hospital medical practice extention...my old dr. moved to the hospital towers which is a distance away}. SO he took me and knew I had a host of medical conditions....
Good luck and feel good over the week til you get in then if no other way!

LION does not know any Latin, and has enough trouble with English. ☺
LION uses LEDs They are wired in parallel, LION uses a 1K Ω resistor in series with each LED.
Sometimes the LION wires a few LEDs in series, with but one resistor in the circuit, but that is an exception to my practices.
And Merry Christmas 2U2.

Not to be irreverent LION, and don't give me any grief (my middle name is Francis as in St. Francis of Assisi and I bet I know more Latin than you do) but...........

Zoe, I'll have a breakfast bagle with bacon and cheese to start off Christmas Eve! Oh I need my usual dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug to go along with THAT! Thank you Ma'am!
Today I will be making the winter squash dish for the Christmas Dinners (yep two of them) tomorrow. Then have to be at Church by 4PM for the early Christmas Eve service.... My Granddaughter is singing in it! Then it is off to my son's house for whatever for supper and exchanging our gifts. Doubt i will get anything done in the train room the next couple days......
A very Merry Christmas to all of the faith! It technically starts at sundown today, BTW. A happy 5th. day of Hanukkah this evening to my Jewish friends........ Be Blest! Prayers for all of you in danger and suffering during this holiday season.
Good morning. It's 41° and cloudy. The high will be 53° and there's a 30% chance of rain around noon increasing to 70% around 2:00 pm.Looks like it's gonna be another wet one today. I have a new shipment of Stoney Mountain flawed resin castings coming. I also found an HO Scale Mystery Machine (Scooby Doo) and snapped it up. Last night I HAD a $50 Visa gift card. It has less than $15 on it now. That and the $26 on the other gift card will be used for getting groceries at the end of the month. That'll give me some extra money to use elsewhere. I have to see one man about a couple of F3B dummy units and another man about a boxcar. You fellas know who you are. Nothing much planned for today. I didn't get much sleep last night, an hour or two and I have a raging headache. I'll be raiding the Aleve bottle shortly. The pain is about to drive me out of my mind. I'm out of meds due to my prescriptions being expired and I'm fresh out of doctors visits on my Medicaid. They'll be reset after the first of the year but until then it's not going to be pleasant. I'm already noticing problems with my blood pressure going up a bit and some discomfort concerning a prostate problem. Acid reflux, gall stone pain and diverticulitis are making themselves known again so a good nights sleep is going to be hard to come by. Can't wait to get started on more projects. They help take my mind off my medical problems for a while and keep me from going up the wall due to boredom. Good morning, Chloe. Lots of coffee this morning. Just a little touch up on the living room, and we can put it back together. We need more paint before moving on to the dining room.

Morning All,
Well it got up to 85 F here yesterday. It set the record here on the 23rd. I grew up in El Paso and saw on the news it was snowing there. We still have to wrap gifts here but that will most likely be done after my son goes to work at 5 PM (cooks at Carrabas).
I want to mount the 4 PL signals today and I will make another attempt at a video of the Mogul for the sound effects.
Jeff- Sounds like you made out pretty good yesterday.

Everyone have a great day.

Thought I’d drop by since I hadn’t been in for a spell. Tomorrow the big day and a busy one. Ours will start with a drop to Deb’s dad, then end with her mom in the evening. We had Xmas with my family last Sunday, but don’t when we have it all our kids yet. Normally, the kids is the Sunday after, but this year our oldest Grandson was supposed to leave from Korea Jan 3rd, so Mother put it off till the 8th, now he’s not leaving there till the 10th [hey it’s the army way], so she can’t decide whether to go ahead with the 8th for the others, then have something with Jus or put it off again.

The story is the same yes, but some how you come off with a slightly different view, or idea, or…I don’t know how to describe it. I get the headlines so to speak, but the details of most stories I am oblivious to. Example. Now I am not making a statement or argument over the content of the example itself so don't think this is a political statement or anything for or against the person mentioned. Back when Bush Senior said no new taxes, remember? Well Congress, added some new tax onto the needed bill allowing Social Security payments to be made. Must have been some budget holding thing and a special bill had to be signed for the government to be able to spend any money until a budget signed or something. Had he not signed that last minute bill, and it was put through at the last minute, SS payments would not have been able to have been made and you know what that means. What do you suppose the headlines in all the papers and on television the next day were? “Bush signs bill to allow millions of seniors and disabled to get their check“? “Congress slips new tax as a rider on needed bill forcing Bush to sign or cause millions of seniors and disabled to go without any money”? Nope. All we heard about was how Bush reneged on his campaign promise. The SS issue was ignored, except for one small sentence “accidentally” made the day after in the local paper. The writer and the proof reader where probably reprimanded or possibly fired for that little slip I’m sure. The other, even bigger issue I had was when the first Space Shuttle blew up. It was devastating and a shock to us all sure. But while watching the reporting after the explosion, the “news” media played back the footage of the families while they were watching the launch giving a play by play account of what was going on with the shuttle launch. Then, they had a family member I believe it was on camera and said “right about here is were the explosion occurred. You can see by their face they don’t know what to think. Now there, you see they think something may be wrong….now…right there you can see in there face they know something has gone horribly wrong.” I wanted to throw a wrench through the TV. There was no point in that and have hated the news media ever since. Whoa! Sorry, someone put that soap box away!
