Merry Christmas to everyone in the Diner!

Off in a little bit for Christmas dinner at my MIL's. Only 6 of us now and I'm the only male. I have to try not to eat too much but my MIL likes to cook for 20. We're going early to give her a hand.

All in all a quiet Christmas for us. My wife and I decided not to spend much on each other as we are saving for a trip in 2013. I did buy myself one of those new Bman FA2's as they have a CN green and yellow scheme which is right for my era. I hear they are quite good. I'll be picking it up soon as it is at my friend's place in Thief River Falls. I thought about one of those new Moguls as they have a CN version but it is too far off the actual even for me. I'm a 'if I squint' rivet counter but putting a number on it for a Mountain and then painting the smoke box silver is going too far even for me. CN never painted smoke boxes silver, as a 5 minute google search would have revealed. Gosh, I just talked myself out of buying a lokie! Say and a pig just flew by the window! What a day!

Well a turkey dinner is calling me so I'll sign off wishing all a great day,

Dave(CN Charlie)

Merry Christmas

Great to see som any people here!

My layout has minimal Christmas stuff on it.:

Also, I have some Lionel trains for Christmass Tree Duty.

Everybody........ You might not believe what happened this morning. We arrived early at church this morning. Amazingly, a thief (Or some thieves) stole air conditioner units from the back of the church overnight. Hard to believe anybody could stoop low enough to steal from a church on Christmas Eve.

Sheriff Deputy came to do the police report. He said another church had the same thing happen a couple of days earlier. Thieves sell the copper at the scrap yeard. He said, scrap dealers are required to see photo I D when they buy scrap copper, and I don't know what this theif will do about that.

Todd ... thanks for all your comments. I think America was built on attitudes like yours where a handshake is all you need between two individual. ... I probably said too much, but I wonder why people are not skeptical of the so-called "news".

Happy Model Railroading and Have a Great Christmas!

everyone. Just wanted to say THAT before we head out to the second round of Turkeyfest 2011 this evening.( I totally echo Todd's thoughts about celebrating this Day BTW, Thanks Todd - and I think your wife would shake her head at me too on the trusting thing!Laugh ) "Second round" as we had Hospital Christmas lunch with Kris' mother - which was very different for us (We had a Christmas service in her room last night); but she was able to open her pressies and listen to a CD of her home church choir in England sent by the daughter of a life-long friend. Ended not so well as she threw up her dessert on getting back to her roomIck!  Tonight we've been invited to a "come-from-aways' " pot luck dinner, except the entree is being cooked by the chef of a local not-at-all-shabby restaurant.....and it's turkey, hence the second round bit. Kris is adding some sausage rolls and we've a bottle of pear wine and some mince pies to throw in.Dinner  apparently this dinner has been held for years - it's just this year we are not so much "en famile" with Ellen in the hospt.

Looking forward to being able to do some more mrr in the New Year as things stabilize with my MIL. There was an Optisight Magnifying Visor under the tree, so that will help!!!Whistling

Hoping things go well for you all in 2012; and a for your friendship over the years.

John

PS, we did end up with a white Christmas thanks to a "fast moving depression over Georgia that will bring snow to most of the Maritimes on the 23rd-24th Dec, followed by a drop in temperature" It wasn't much snow, but it qualifies, I guess. Here's a view from our bedroom yesterday.

Merry Christmas!

No white Christmas this year. Here that's a good thing as the state doesn't have the equipment or the budget to clear away the white muck. http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv186/Running-Bear/P1011603-1.jpg

Jeffrey.. you know I live in  Upstate New Yawk...and have NO white Christmas this year either!!!

We have actually had quite a mild fall..days of 40's and then a few days of 20-30s, then back to 40s or near there!!! average I think is supposed to be around 20 now. I won't complain though!!!! Neither will MOH!!!

It is due to the jet stream carrying high across the state, bringing warm weather form your neck of the woods to here. Thank you very much!!!

Todd... if you have ruled out things like shingles {herpes Zoster- the chickenpox virus coming back} and such, try my method if the Dr. thinks OK and see if it helps the poor little thing...if the same as I have, then I can sympathize with her immensely. They itch, burn and ache like crazy...all from a buildup under the skin of fluid! I get em on my toes sometimes too!!! Those are VERY annoying...at least I can scratch my fingers,,,but toes are sometimes inaccessable in shoes!!!

Flip- Thanks. That was my response to the Herpes thing. Could be stress related. Hey, had to take some pressure off the hubby you know Laugh. I will suggest a dematologist though. Never thought of that. She does deal with stress.

EDIT: OOOPS! Sorry, Thanks Debbie.

G- Thanks! That sounds similar. The bumps are about the size of a pin point and quite a few fairly concentrated. I could see no appearance of individual swelling at the red spots (very tiny) rather like a...well, swollen finger with some slight discoloration. Nope not taking anything as a diagnosis, just looking for ideas for suggestions to the doc. You'd think at over a hundred dollars a visit you wouldn't have to help. No discount if you're right either.

Rob- (chuckle) No cooties, already asked. She already has been checked for Herpes and a couple other STD's she kinda embarassingly offered up. But not at my asking Whistling. She's monogomus and she claimed if had came back positive, her and her husband would have had a very very long "talk" and he would be in quite bad shape now. She's about 4'10", weighs maybe 90 pounds soaking wet, just as pretty as they come and pure italian. I do believe she could and would take him and he's probably 6'1" and about 210.Laugh  Happens randomly but happening more often it sounds. I don't know how early they have harmonal issues, she's only 28 but who knows. I assume they have checked that out. She's my little buddy and I'm naturally concerned, but I still didn't delve too far into the "uncomfortable " side if you know what I meanEmbarrassed.  Thanks for the suggestions.

Don't take this the wrong way, but only asking this because, well, some of you have dealt with such a wide variety of...Hmm...situations, maybe someone has had something or knows someone who has.

She find out I'm asking this, yall'd probably never see me again eitherDead Laugh.

Todd- go to a dermatologist, have scrapings done to dertemine if it isn't a Herpes type virus brought on by stress.

Columbian coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Todd, does that condition occure on a fairly predictable schedule? Could it be either hormonal in nature or some kind of cooties? My wife would have been the one to ask, so just throwing out a couple thoughts here.

Forgot to mention the latest electric bill. Continues to be well under $100.- Not bad, but I still want a wood stove, as the cold gets old after awhile. One thing at a time. Did buy an electric blanket recently, which keeps me toasty warm at night...along with the two indoor kitties.

Have a Merry Christmas all.  Cold rain here. Burrr! Had to turn on the heat.

Good morning. It's 47° and wet. Rain is falling. The high will be 50° and it will still be raining. There's a 50% chance of rain this morning and afternoon increasing to 70% this evening.

Merry Christmas!

No white Christmas this year. Here that's a good thing as the state doesn't have the equipment or the budget to clear away the white muck. No modeling plans for today. There's a Christmas dinner at my parents place later so I'll be going to that. I got about five hours of sleep last night. That's better than I expected.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a cup of dark roast and a couple chocolate chip cookies to dunk in it.....  Don't think I will bother taking my blood sugar tonight.  Already know it will be a bit high!  Two huge meals today, and even if I try to be good....  Well, I know I will be eating way too much.  But then, it is Christmas!

Oh....  MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I have a busy day ahead, so I'll catch you all late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Merry Christmas

Our son and his family came over yesterday.  It is so heart warming to see the delight on the faces of the little ones as they tear open their presents.  They're still too young (9 and 7) to be expecting the latest designer clothes or the latest hot game.  On Wednesday, our daughter and her partner will be coming in to the city to celebrate Christmas and her birthday (Dec. 31) with us.  Her daughter, who is 18 y.o. and living on her own in the city will join them.  Today, it's just the two of us and a quiet day at home.

Merry Christmas all. MOH and I are waiting for my son to get up (works nights) to open gifts. Later we are going to my parents house and my daughter and her husband will be with us for dinner. That will  be nice as I don't get to see her as much as I would  like to.

OK (ahem) attention all folks with some degree of familiarity with medical issues. I have this little buddy who has a problem with her fingers. She has had it for a few years. They swell up and are painful. They are sensitive to heat also. It is not the joints that are swelling and she has been checked for RA. It actually looks like small bumps all swelled up, but they are not prominent bumps, almost like a swollen rash without really looking like a rash. The Doctors haven’t figured it out, but she doesn’t go much when it happens anymore after they determined she didn’t have RA, like I said the joints aren’t swollen and painful, it’s the fleshy parts that are. Doesn’t hang around twenty four seven either. Lasts maybe two weeks, and may be gone for 2, 3, or 4 weeks, or maybe a month. Food and chemicals have been ruled out. Well by us anyway, we’ve gone down the list of anything and everything she may have eaten or touched different at any time. Not asking for a sound medical diagnosis of course, just any suggestions that you may have experienced or heard of as something to look into would be helpful.

Sounds like "Ultrahydrosis" or some name like that. I get tiny little bumps of fluid {water..hence the "hydrosis" portion}  that build up on my fingers like a rash, especially in warmer {hot} weather. It can also happen during heating season! They come from retaining too much {hence the "ultra" part}  fluid. I pop the buggers with a sterilized needle and that provides some relief from teh ache and *itchyness* that accompanies them. My Dr. said there isn't much one can do. DOn't count that as an expert medical opinion...just my experience Todd.

Merry CHristmas.

Garry- Staying off the soapbox myself, (and I know about the organization you referred to also. Afew things didn’t add up), I think you are right. Too many people believe what they are told, especially if it’s what they want to hear. Good or bad. Myself, I trust everyone, until I’m given a reason not to. If you tell me you are really Steven Spielberg, I’d believe you until I found out otherwise, or something else you told me was not true. I just sold a truck on a handshake. He took off with my truck and a signed title and left me with a promise Why, because one, I know him. Not well, but I know him, and two, he’s never given me reason to think he would not pay me. 2 weeks later as promised, he paid me. Would I do that with a stranger, probably not, but under certain circumstances….I just might. Depends on how they strike me. My wife constantly shakes her head saying you’re too trusting. I am, but that doesn’t mean I just believe everything I’m told. One thing I do know however, and if we all remember our Government classes, or U.S. History classes whatever your school called them, to blame the President for any law made, tax, or most anything else, (I say “most” )….well, you’d better go back and read how our country works. You’re barking up the wrong tree. Not holding up for the sitting President or any in the past or future. Just stating non political facts.

Good Morning!! Just a quick coffee please. Thanks

Celebrated with the family at SIL’s house last night, then to MIL’s today at oh, about 10 or 11 I think. Yup, mostly the same people. Why twice? I don’t know, just the way they do it and always have since before me. Part Italian, part German’s they are. Ain’t gonna change ‘em and they’ll scream and yell at you for years if you try.Laugh

Another Blueberry tea, please.

***Ray, thanks for that. If I am still above ground in a year (which I plan on being) I will put the Christmas tree up. Couldn't begin to even think about that this year.

***Flip, thanks for the tip. Perhaps that is why it worked better last time and I have forgotten to push instead of pull.Hmm Will try it tomorrow.

Watched "Battle: Los Angeles", a perfect mindless SciFi flick to crank up on the surround system and let the explosions pound away at the old body. What? Did someone say something to me? Sorry, trouble hearing you.Alien

ROB- instead of Pulling the track cleaner, PUSH it. Told Cape Jim months ago and it works for him. I've been doing it for years.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Better New Year.   Please get help with that tree.

Best wishes and warm regards,

Evenin' and a Merry Christmas to all!

Janie just an decaf please.  eggnog?  No thanks, Had one out at my son's house tonight....  You put what in it for Ken???  eeeeeeuuuuuuuuuwwww!  No we used Dark rum.....  Eggnog and beer???

Rob, I remember all too well what you were feeling earlier when you opened the gifts meant for your wife......  Those things always did a really bad number on me those first couple of years...  Hang in there!  Been there, done that!  I found putting up a tree more than I could handle so for the last 20 or so years I have not had one at all.

Santa arrived about the same I did out at my son's house tonight....  The girls opened their gifts from Grandpa as I was opening some of my gifts.  Livy went nuts over the Thomas the Train toy I gave her.  It is one that will follow a light around (I assume it has to be from the special light THAT came with it, so it isn't really the light but something else that works it)...  Got Emily (2.5 year old) a Thomas the train top.  She has it almost figured out.  When it goes fast enough it makes a steam whistle sound.  They each got a book from Grandpa as well.  I was given a number of tools from MicroMark and a new shirt.  We finally got down to the big one of the evening and I didn't have my camera to capture the expression on my DILs face when she realized I got them an iMac.  Her brother showed up a while later and was ogling the box reading the specs and saying things like, "Oh Wow!" and "holy cow".....  He thinks they are going to love it...  Just a bit more powerful than the old Mac Mini they have had for 6 years.  Since they will still be able to use the old computer, my son already announced plans to have it down cellar in his workshop.  I noticed the "Say What!" look on the better halfs face at the time.  Bet it ends up in the bedroom by her table...

Tomorrow I will be at my sister's house for a noontime feast and then go over to my son's house again for another feast and the present frenzy THAT is the tradition on his wife's side of the family!  May not even bother to take my blood sugar tomorrow night...Whistling

Hope all of you are off to a great start this Christmas!  Prayers for all in need of them.
