Good........ mmmmmmmmmmorning !

I just saw somebody with caffeine jitters drinking coffee from a Southern Pacific mug.

Todd ... Are you trying to catch up with Barry the Chow Hound? .. Barry says you have no chnace of doing so........ Regarding news, I can see how an Illinois resident might not like to hear it. I keep up with financial and economic news. I have to be careful because there are so many distortions being "reported" as general news media. I am skeptical, and I will take time to verify. So, it does get me upset to hear the lies in the "main stream media". I can easily check the facts on the internet, and certain "news" networks are intentionally deceiving people about the economy and the government's budget. I can see how Greece and other European countries are in trouble. Worse, I can see we are on that path. Governments should let numerous churches and charities to take care of the trurly needy, and government should not be trying to be a charity organization itself. ... Oooops ...Sorry. ... Off the soapbox.

On the layout, I have been "raising the roof". My passenger shelters have roofs that are in the way of dome cars. I have the platforms close to the tracks so passengers do not need to leap 3 scale feet to board the train. So, I am taking the shelters apart and adding 2 scale feet to the height. That is much easier said than done.

Here is a photo to inspire old truck junkees.

Good morning, Chloe.  I am in no hurry to go anywhere.  I have a little painting, but right now I will have a NP mug of coffee, please.

Jeffrey,  Your resin castings are telling me to get the resin ordered.  Do you use a special brand name resin?

Good Morning Modelers!

Yep, got hit with about 10" of Snow yesterday and decided to stay home and do the telecommute thing.  Dropped down to 10F overnight and current 16F but the Sun is working it's way out.  Should be a good weekend for Holiday activities

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a bran muffin with lots of real butter, and my cup of dark roast in a FGLK mug please.

OMG, Garry, the truck in the foreground looks identical to the old 1934 Chevy 4 ton farm truck we had back when I was a kid.  Even the color is the same (not the rust, what is left of the paint...).  Ours didn't have the horns on the roof, but just the old Ahoogah one under the hood.

Blackie the cat is intently watching a squirrel on the porch this morning......  I have a few items to get done today, but mostly will be finishing up some things on the layout while washing clothes.

Catch you all later!

Good AM!!

Hello

Well got the grocery shopping out of the way.

Will run 2 loads of laundry after MOH goes to work the afternoon/evening shift.

Christmas dinner will be: Crock pot roasted chicken, stew veggies, stuffing and gravy.

FIL called last night and was nasty to me and wouldn't say what he wanted. MOH called and all FIL wanted to knwo was what we were doing for Christmas dinner. MOH said he could have asked me that instead of being nasty. When MOH said I was cocking Christmas dinner so I ought to know and I could have answered his question he got nasty to MOH...guess his senility is setting in. Apparently MIL either didn't tell him, or he forgot. We set it up at TG day. True colors of the old man..waits till two days before to ask what we are doing for the day!!!

Well,. Since I have been up since 5, I think i go join MOH for a nap before MOH goes to work.

I don't make any resin castings. I got all these for seven dollars and change from Stoney Mountain Classic Castings. They're all seconds and flawed castings.

The LION was running his trains yesterday. All four operating trainsets were on the railroad and running. It is so nice to just set back watch the trains run. It is beginning mto look real good.

Coffee refill, please. Hard getting going this morning.

***Garry, coffee has the opposite effect on me and have a calming effect. At least with the first cup.

***Ray, my cat Stormy spends much time every day out on the back screened porch watching squirrels. The squirrels seem to enjoy teasing her, scampering along the branches closest to the screen.

A TORNADO did touch down in the county just north of here. That must be why the local siren was going off.

How about posting some new layout progress pics, folks? Would enjoy seeing what y'all are up to.

Good morning. It's 51° and cloudy. The high will be 59° and it will be mostly cloudy.

Nothing on the schedule today except to add a few weeds to the junkyard scene. Other than that I'll be getting some rest today and watching some movies.

My wife told me to pre-order my Christmas presents, so I did. Now I just have to wait for future deliveries. Not an easy thing for me to do. I'm like a little kid in that regard, I want everything now... Anyway, an Intermountain Norfolk Southern GEVO and a US Army Genset will certainly be welcome additions to the fleet.

On the home front, we saw the surgeon last Friday and he advanced the wife to 100% weight bearing on her leg. But he only wanted her to stand on both legs until the physical therapist saw her, which happened this past Tuesday. Nothing but remarkable progress since then. She can now go upstairs, so she is sleeping in the bedroom instead of the dining room, and can use the bathroom as well as taking a shower instead of a sponge bath. Took her out Wednesday morning for breakfast, and she really enjoyed that. We will be having Christmas dinner with our nephew and his family, so we expect the Holidays to be far more enjoyable than what we thought they might be.

Sorry to hear about your kidney stones Lee. Although I have never had them, I've known some fellows who did. I have been wondering whatever happened to the procedure that was being talked up some years ago about using sound waves to break them up. Maybe it didn't work as well as advertised at the time.

We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and good health, good fortune and good times in the coming New Year. Enjoy yourselves stay safe.

Whistling

Night Train Christmas ExpressHi Gang,  A Very Merry Christmas to You all.........

Here I am working again today and tomorrow so while a had a bit of a break I though I would post a Christmas Greeting to you  as I might not have the opportunity to get in before the big day.

I do have a couple of questions that I would like your input on, so here they come;

I am about to pour my river.  I have the waterfall in place which is made out of silicon caulking and looks great.  I will be using "Evirotex light" for the water and need to know how I accommodate the temporary dams that will be put in place so that my pours can be smaller.  After the previous pour has been made and I remove the dam for that section, is there something that should be done in the area of that first dam to make the mate of the next pour join properly???

When placing a dam what is the best product to seal it to hold the pour without leaking ??   By the way it is being poured on a plywood base with pink Styrofoam on each side

Depending on your answer to the last one, how easy does that sealing product get removed before the next pour.??

I have not used this product before and am looking for all that experience out there to help solve problems before I make them.   {"Murphy's Law works well here".}

Once again, I hope all have a very wonderful Christmas with Family and Friends, and that your tummies get filled with turkey and other goodies.

Please remember the reason for the Season.

And for goodness sake DO NOT DRINK, TEXT, or PHONE while DRIVING,  We want you all back after the Holidays,   and not Dead....

Johnboy out.................................and back to work.

Veggie plate and a coffee refill, please.

***Tom, cool additions indeed. Post pics of them on the layout when they arrive, please!

***Johnboy, good luck with the poor!

***Garry, thank you kind sir!

***Jeffrey, I like the semi trailer in that pic. It's as well done as those autos.

On the way to and from running errands in near town, I saw some of the damage from that storm. Lots of trees down along the main road, although they had already been cut up and/or moved off the road. Spotted a barn missing a section of roof and some debris out in a pasture.

Took another look at some tractors and pretty much know which one I'll end up with, barring any unforeceen financial glitches. Only thing I know nothing about is how to set up a loader for grapple use? Do grapples come with the required kits or is that something a dealer sets up? All I know is I can buy one online for half of what the dealer charges and that includes delivery.

Almost time for evening critter rounds. Been feeling a bit more down today. It is what it is. Rob

Thanks. The trailer is a standard Athearn 45' trailer with a printed paper shell over it. The shell is printed on card stock. I got it from THIS site.

Johnboy for the waterfall I would buy a non-stick cookie sheet from the dollar store and buy Woodland scenic water effects.  You can pour the waterfall on the cookie sheet and peel it off then glue it to the waterfall.  There are ways to agitate the water effects with a paint brush to give you a very realistic waterfall, videos are available on youtube and MRR. If you pour on the layout and don't like it you have to chisel it off.  On the cookie sheet you peal and start over.

The creek I poured: people slowly try to stick their finger into the water thinking it’s liquid.  I’ve seen flies try to drink from it.  I didn’t use any dams since my creek was level.  I poured 1/16 layers of PARKS Super Glaze; it’s a 2-part ultra-gloss epoxy and can be found in the Home Depot paint department for $20/kit.  I have a friend that manufactures ballast and stone for one of the larger MRR companies and he crushed and sifted actual river gravel for me to use on the bottom of the stream bed.  Parks Super Glaze is used on those tables at the restaurants you see that have 1-2” of polyurethane on the tables…

Good advice on the water effects and I'm not sure what would be best to dam things up - I used modelling clay but didn't really feel it all came off when I went to add more resin. That was long ago, surely someone has a better method now.

TC- Good to hear from you and it sounds like you and your wife are getting the best Christmas present ever with the recovery progress. You both remain in our prayers.      J.R.

Tom that’s a lipotripsy (sp) my mom has had it done a few times, they put you in a large tub of water and send sound waves to help move the stones.  With me the plan is to go in with a fiber optic laser and tap the stone a couple times to make it smaller or reach in with a basket (mechanics fingers) and pull it out.  It’s not too bad since you don’t have any incisions, but the bad part is the path they take to the stone hurts for a while afterward.  Its good to hear your wife is doing better!

Evening All,

Got the wiring job done today without any issues--It's a Christmas miracle. Went to the club and ran the loco for about 2 hours with one issue. I placed it on the programming track and could not get it to run, placed it on the main track and it ran fine. I tried this several times with the same results.Dunce. I don't know what was going on with it.

Rob- I shot a video but it was horrible and I will try again later. I did take photos.

Tom- I'm glad your wife is doing so well.

Everyone take care.

Curt,

Many of the BLI decoders seem to require programming on the main. Not enough power on the programming track to do the job. Of course the first time I did programming on the main i didn't remove everythng and ended up with 3 locomotives with the same addressDunce. At least  the extras didn't require reprogramming on the main.

Whose turnouts are you using in the backround there? Mine don't look that nice!    J.R.

JR- The turnout is a Shinohara Double curve # 6.5 turnout. The loco is the new Bachmann Mogul that I received on Tuesday. It has a soundtrax sound chip but it is a lower end sound chip not the Tsunami. But for a nice looking/running sound loco for $120 delivered I can't complain.

PS- That sloppy paint job below the roof is my doing that I need to fix.Whistling

 Evening Folks!

 Flo, Beer Please.

Tom, great to hear your wife is doing much better. Is she now looking for where you put stuff after you found it?

Work Front Today was the best day I have had so far! Biggest Help Was Tim Was Off! No messed up tickets to fix for a change. I went in at 9:00 AM and only two car in at that point. Then we got cooking, I took in 8 cars back to back. Got some added on sales and fluid exchanges and up grade some oil changes. High Lite of the day was when I second sold some work Bill could not get!  Bill told Monica that she needed 2 tie rod ends and rear brakes but he could not get the deal. She had came in just for a oil change and I wrote that ticket.

After I cashed out the oil change she asked me about the other work that was needed. I looked over the est that she was given and said we could save her a little money, but the tie rod ends where expressive ones. Told her I could get them from a different vendor and save her around $40.00. All so suggest getting a NTB charge card with 0% interest for 6 months. If she wanted to do both the rear brakes and front in work, I could get her 12 months at 0% interest and a $50.00 gift card! Got the deal and she is now safe to drive to OHIO for Christmas Saturday.

Have to be at the store at 7:00 AM Christmas Eve so I got to go.

Nice Galaxy! and as before may you 4,000 more.  Hope you feel better soon. Can they refry the nerves? (Like twice baked potatoes they may be better then).

Ken - way to go at the job. And unlike the mattress job you are doing repairs that are needed and the upsales are helping people be safe. Hopefully your installers don't engage in the shenanigans the CFO's fellow installers pulled when she was at Midas (oil can on the shocks, etc) so at the end of the day you always walk out with your head held high. The places I was employed all took the high road and I found honor in the labor.

Finished a second wall with backround hills/trees and I'm now waiting on some ordered city backdrop pics (EZ-Cut type) so I can decide a scheme for the third wall abuting the urban scenes. I have enough backround done now that I can think about laying track on the elevated sections and start on the river/chasm/bridges section.  Catch Y'all later, J.R.

Christmas came early at my sisters place since they'll be in north-west Texas for Christmas. I got a couple of Wal-Mart gift cards ($50 and $26), a bronze cane to replace my old Rosewood cane. I've only had it for close to thirty years now and it definitely looks it's age. Also got a Gillette men's face and body collection (no new body in it. Darn!). A small box of shortbread cookies, a PM-Quad massage tool and a Christmas tree shaped jar of assorted chocolate candies. I try to keep some around in case I have a sugar crash. I won't have to buy any for a while.
