Good Morning All,
It was really nice out yesterday so I did some yard work. Went to a train show and picked up some Spectrum Passenger cars. $10 each wasn’t too bad.
Curt, very nice pictures!

TMarsh Jeff- I’ve been told two things. One is you do not have a sense of humor to speak of and 2, you have a somewhat dry and sarcastic sense of humor similar to mine. (This was from the guy who lives kinda catawampus from your parents.) With your description of your Father, I don’t see how you could have made it without having a sense of humor. I’m leaning toward old number two. Kinda gotta know you to realize you’re not just some crusty guy. Like me.

Good morning, Chloe. I will just have coffee this morning.
This is a dumb time of year to take on a major home remodel. We got some of the color up yesterday. SIL picked up the TV and console Saturday evening, so things are moving faster. It would be nice to have it done or to a stopping point by Christmas. Larry & I work well together.
Curt, Thanks for the comments. Do you use a tripod for your photos? Sometimes, I a just too lazy to get it out. Take 20 photos and keep 2.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Morning All,
Off today but it's raining, no idea how long that will last. I guess it is better than s**w. I will probably vacuum the house and watch the new Stephen King movie that came out last night. I have been reading and re-reading the directions for the LRT signal install to make sure I understand them. MOH left out the box from them the other day by accident so I know thats what I'm getting but haven't let on. Have I said what a great wife I have?
Thayne- I'm interested.
Todd- It's a Spectrum 4-4-0. It runs like a champ. Yesterday it was pushing 3 box cars and pulling a cabin car without any difficulty. I don't have sound in it but it is DCC. The only thing is to get it started the throttle has to be on 18, other than that no issues and it is a great little loco that I normally use for switching.
Lee- Those HW cars do seem like a good deal. If they are the ones I am thinking of they retail for $25 each.
Sue- No tripod. I usually either sit the camera down on the layout or I put it on something rigid that I sit on the layout. I probably take between 10-15 pictures a week and keep about 6-10.
Everyone take care.

Good morning. It's 37°/3°C with some clouds and just a trace of a chance of rain/snow. The high will be 59°/15°C with clouds and sunshine.Yesterday I got the well car weathered - finally. Today I'll see what I can do about the containers. They look way to clean and new for my taste. Went clothes shopping yesterday. Among other things I got two new pairs of pants, so I now have twice the number of pairs of pants as I had before. As some of you may or may not know I've been using a text to speech program to listen to the postings here. I found that my computer seems to have a decidedly heavy British accent, somewhat like a combination of Graham Norton and Richard Hammond. Well, I've been tweaking it here and there and now have it at a point that I like. It now sounds a lot like Alfred Hitchcock. It's 'Good morning' sounds OK but it's 'Good evening' can send a chill right down the middle of your back. I still have to work on it a little. It sounds three thousand percent better than Microsoft Sam.

***Jeffrey, I do not believe that full scale rusted car will fit on your layout. That really is an old rust bucket.
***Jim, Looks like 6" joists on 15" centers at perhaps 10' length from side of house to center beams. The floor is tonge-in-groove laminate with vapor barrier padding over 1/2 (or greater) plywood, over 3/4" treated plywood (it's been awhile since I installed all this, so I'm guessing), plus spray foam insulation in the dungeon/basement. Not an easy place to add a reinforcement post so near the basement door, but I could probably come up with something.
Have a good day all. Rob
Sue- Had to laugh when I read the first line of your post. Thought you were talking about me. I was gonna have to agree.
Jeff- Nope. Actually I forgot about David. I believe at some time you made a comment about not having a sense of humor, but many of your posts give me a different opinion. At least as I read them. When you relayed your Fathers comments I believed my thought may be correct. We would probably get along well, you wouldn't take all I said seriously despite how serious it may sound. Many times others have to inform those who don't know me well that I'm not serious and am not by any stretch of the imagination, the exhaust port of a donkey.
Curt- I suspected a Spectrum. I was curious how they ran being they are so small. When I get a chance to get back to my world in the basement, I'm gonna w**k on the little plain Bachmann and see if I can't get it running better. If not, well looks like Spectrum will be in order. I want one for my tourist train and I like the looks of the 4-4-0's. Old west toruist trap town tourist train is how I get one in the modern world.

Mornin' everyone!
Jeffrey! Watch out! There are pair of large kitties heading your way and licking their chops!!!
Oh... they're in an enclosure..... I see... Well (deep subject), now that I am fully awake, I guess I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, sourdought toast, and lots of dark roast coffee in a FGLR Mug. Thank you!
After two days getting up bfore dawn to drive to the show, I figured taday I would sleep in. i was well on my way to accomplishing THAT goal when the $@%& Deaf Person Alarm I have went off. Two cats left the premises after falling back down off the ceiling, and I spent about a minute trying to find a button that would shut it off with my left hand which had fallen asleep so I couldn't move it or feel anything! Then i did what any thinking person would do under the circumstances, I rolled over and took a 3 hour nap!
When I did get up, I found a pile from one of the kitties who had a hairball... Just missed it with my bare feet....... Am now on my second cup of very strong dark roast coffee and starting actually wake up!
Not exactly sure what I will do today (other than a quick trip to the grocery store), but it probably will include time in the layout rooms....
Curt & Todd, here is my Bachmann 4-4-0. Her sister could be found over on the NYC (#999) and Set the Land Speed Record way back in the late 1880s between Batavia, NY and Buffalo, NY. Probably, more than once stopped in Canandaigua......... I thought about numbering mine "666" but didn't want to jinx it...
She is a sweet little runner and usually sees duty pulling the milk train. Well, she is a good runner now after I pulled out the crap decoder Bachmann sends with it and put in a NCE one. Now I have adjusted it so it does start at step 22 and do 350 scale mph at step 30.......
Later!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Ray: What you said about the cats falling back down off the ceiling reminded me of the last cat I had. I got her just after she had been weaned. Being the typical kitten she would seek out any warm spot she could find. The top of the clock/radio was warm so she curled up there and went to sleep. At 5 am the alarm went off followed almost immediately by a feline screaming snarl as the cat hit the ceiling - quite literally! Her tail was so fluffed up it was bigger than the rest of her body. She never went near that clock again but she'd bow up her back and spit and hiss at it when it went off.
***Ray & Todd: That's a sweet looking little 4-4-0, Ray. It would indeed be perfect for a Tourist Train. (also like the looks of Bachmann's 4-6-0) I'm stuck with a 2-8-0, only because I can't justify buying another new loco. Well, I still might buy a Mantua 2-6-6-2 Logger one day, but only because I already have a logging train it would be perfect for. Good luck with the repairs, Todd.
Better get outside and do some chores. Seems hard to get going these days. Trying to stay positive, which at times is easier said than done. Rob
Good Afternoon fellow Modelers,
Sorry I missed breakfast, W**K got in the way this morning so I didn't have a chance until now to make my morning rounds and stop in for coffee. Over the weekend I finally got all my old Camcorder video tapes uploaded to the PC taking up nearly 1TB (996GB) of disk. Now to get a backup copy to another drive for safe keeping.

Afternoon, Zoe - Sheesh! I almost got run over by a couple of mountain Lions playin' tag, or chase, or something outside! Thought at first that they were looking for a late lunch snack, but they whooshed right on past me. (Whew!) Oh, I'll have a BLT and a RBF please. Thanks!
Thayne, check your 'conversations'. I'm interested also.
Jeff, I would have gone with Todd's #2 anyway, even before I saw your answer (astute judge of character that I am, or whatever...) Is that baggage car (a different view of it) the one you had posted (quite) a while back? Definite resource for anyone wanting to do rust spots on cars!
Todd, I think that Chef-with-Pampers is one of those 'hook-you-in-and-keep-selling-you-stuff-forever' things (but don't tell Brenda I said so...) Kind of one of those "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it" deals.
Sue, I'd agree with you - this time of year, there is way too much going on to tackle any home improvement project (unless it's breaking in some new pillows, or some MRR engines/cars/etc., that is...)
Rob, I was just saying you probably would tell that building and joists and such stuff to someone who knows that stuff (which definitely would not be me!). Do you have a possible place that installs/carries the stoves (locally, if possible)? I'd talk with them about how do-able it would be, or what additional bracing/support might be needed (if I were to undertake such a project for my place, which I likely would not). Sorry if you mistook me for someone who might even remotely know about home improvements (except the ones I mentioned to Sue, above...). My bad.
It actually warmed up this afternoon here - no, didn't have to get out the cut-off shorts or the suntan lotion, just into the 50's, I'd guess. As Todd said, kinda nice for December in the Midwest.
Ray - 350 scale mph out of #499 there? No wonder it has the world speed record! What set off your alarm today, anyway, or was that your version of an alarm clock? (And why would a retired person have one?...) I can just about picture Jeff's poor, unsuspecting cat... (chuckle..guffaw..snicker...)
to the Diner, Darren! I'm glad I don't have nearly as many videos (let alone videotapes) as you do, with as much disk space as those take up. You have me wondering now about the wisdom of my plan to convert and import my (vinyl)albums that I have sitting in their jackets. So, tell us about your RR, layout plans and/or progress, modeling a specific RR line or winging it like Todd and myself (and a few others) here? Inquiring minds, y'know...
As for my MRR stuff today, I got in some bits and pieces for the layout - Logging truck (W-S), salvage yard conveyor, and a Preiser "Drying her hair" figure (which will need a bit of judicious painting to be G-rated for the layout - those German companies follow more the Vicky's Secrets fashion trends than Mom's & Pop's long flannels). Ah, a #000 or smaller brush and some (non-fleshtone) paint should do it. If the weather had warmed up earlier in the day, i might have taken my resin building kit out to my 'spray booth' (aka deck) and hit the pieces with a dose of white primer. Maybe tomorrow it'll hold off on the predicted raindrops and I can get that done.
Still have to get two gift cards (for daughter and son-in-law) and a dinosaur book for Drew (grandson #1), and get my daughter to suggest something for Ben (#2 grandson). My brother's Amazon.com gift certificate can come out of my next paycheck in another week and a half. The cards, I will get this week for everybody (except my brother). Then my shopping will pretty much be done.
I'll kick back at the window booth and watch the switcher picking up the cars for the evening local.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Mighty quiet in here again. Decaf coffee, please.
Every time I start feeling like there is a small chance at normalcy, something comes along to smack me back down. Pretty rough day. That's all I have to say.
Have a good night all.

Something about a Zeus burger.....
Evening All,
WOW... that's a huge burger. Flo can I have a cup of Decaf please?
Haven't done much all day, just kind of futzed around the house. My water fowl came in and I glued most of them down. See below. I ordered some colored wire (Red, Yellow, Green) to solder to the signal leads. That way it will help me with hookup under the layout.
Everybody take care.
Well I finally got some weathering done on the containers today. Next come decals.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Good evening All,
Just stopping in on my way to Z-land. Been frantic in the shop since getting back what with trying to crate and ship motors for rebuild, get tubs stripped and stuff off to x-ray. Also got snows on the cars and some repairs on street cars and had the company Christmas party Saturday night.
Did get the backdrop repainted a light blue/grey which looks better.
I'll try to stop in more often as things calm back down. Catch Y'all later, J.R.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a cup of decaf for me. Thanks!
Been a busy day..... Got the truck back. Runs better, and quieter. Came to just over $1600..... Hopefully I can keep it running for several more years without any more repairs like this one! At least I'm not making payments on it.......
My son brought the Granddaughters over when he took me to get the truck today. So Thomas got out for a bit. They were here about an hour. I did some updating of the membership list for the division (monthly event....), and finally got down to the train rooms this evening. Spent most of THAT time putting away tools and getting ready to finish the 4th. turnout.
Jim, what set off the alarm is, I didn't turn it off completely yesterday. You can just hit the "alarm" button and it will stop the alarm, but it is still armed for tomorrow.... I should have pulled off the switch on the side which shuts off the alarm completely. Keep in mind this thing is made for deaf people... You can adjust the pitch and the volume so it WILL wake you up! It resembles standing next to the tracks at a crossing when a 5 chime lets loose blowing for a crossing. They say you have to be playing your iPod awful d@mn loud not to hear one of them!!!
Hope you all had a great day. Prayers for all in need!
Evening Folks.
Flo, I will take a Keg of and a straw please.
Had one of those days I should had stay in bed. Won't go into great detail about standing in line for 6 minutes to cash a check and there was no one in front of me? ( I was the line of 1) Then there was the person in front of me at the gas station that bought like $400.00 in lottery tickets. While I did get to work on time, it was by only 2 minutes.
I am done, see you later.

Good morning all. I got home a little late last night; I had big plans of all the things I was going to do. Ended up heating up some left overs and staring at the TV..... Hopefully tonight I will do better?? Jim & Curt, I will get you some info on the blog, Thanks for your interest. Jim I got your msg thanks. My computer skills stink and my wife who helps me is in Vegas playing with the new grandson. I just realized That I had 3 messages in the forum conversation section. I didn't know about that feature and I am to stupid to figure out how to reply. Is it ok to give out a personal email address here? I have noticed that no one does.. Well I need a shower so I better shut up! see you all tonight!

Curt; I found them online for $30 and the LHS still has $75 on them. These are the ones with the full interiors. I can’t complain for $10 each. Now I need to pick up some sitting people and porters and stuff, LOL.
Sue is correct; I’m remodeling my house and just running late enough on the project not to have the room or ambition to put up Christmas this year.
Ray; those are bad decoders Bachmann sells with their stuff. They are the economy LENS decoders; they must be 16 speed steps, LOL. I pull them and save them for experimentation.
Good Morning
We are seeing more sun today followed by a couple of days of rain...so by Friday it will be cccold and dull....
Lee: We were lucky this year in that all the reno work was on the outside of the house and got finished before this season showed up...Spring is in the tree as I type...
Today is go to doctor appointment and see about how things went with the last A1c and other things
Then I pick up a few more things then come home...
Flo, I'll just have a coffee for now-I'll be at the the RC ...
LSWrr Sue is correct; I’m remodeling my house and just running late enough on the project not to have the room or ambition to put up Christmas this year.
Looks like we are not the only ones tackling the remodel. I think I will put up the outside lights, just the icicle lights over the front door, and if I get ambitious I will make a wreath for outside.
Off to the pool.
Good Morning!! Coffee and an order of biscuits and gravy please. Thanks. Rain likely after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 47.

Well the linoleum is ripped up and the floor scraped and prepped, and the tile centered, test laid out and shifted accordingly. Now, can’t find my spacers. Typical. Keep looking, or make a special trip into town just for spacers. Decisions, decisions.
Jim- PChef has some really nice stuff and I don‘t want to knock it. But the prices are…well let’s just say they are proud of them. What I see happening, is like with the candle party things. Folks book a party and they get a “gift” or some big discount. Then with the sales, you get so much of a discount on so much stuff or something like that. Then, if a person at your party books a party, then you again get a discount of a certain amount or of certain things you buy at their party. This rolling effect serves two purposes, one it lets people buy the stuff they want closer to what you can buy comparable stuff at elsewhere, and the company sells the stuff. We all know a man will come home and proudly say “look honey, we needed this and It was on sale!” where as a woman will say “look honey, we didn’t need this, but it was on sale!” The discounts appeal to the “it’s on sale” gene.
I remember when Jeff first showed that car. (chuckle) Ah yes, some guy called him on his “overdone weathering” saying it wasn’t prototypical. Jeff of course was quick on the draw to show the proto which as you can see is…well, nuff said.
Ooo Curt- I like the duck pond.
I do miss halter tops.
Ray- I think of it this way. The cost of a new vehicle can compared to a repair. Way cheaper to repair if, as in your case, the truck is still a good truck. The average cost of a new truck, and not a fancy one, will set you back in monthly payments what…$300-$350? And that’s not a very fancy truck at all. That at 350, you just spent about 4 ½ months payments in how many years and how many before a major repair? Pretty cheap transpo in the long run. Of course it's not my money, BUT I do like those little 4-4-0's
My case, I battled with myself over the new truck fix up the old one. New won out. The old one needed mainly body wo*k, but I just kinda wanted a new one.
Thayne- Nope, no issues with the email address here as long as you aren’t tying it to sales of something. Some may mention that anyone can see therefore copy and use it here, but then some don’t care either. An alternative is in your profile I think you can have it show there. I think. Haven’t looked for a long time. It’s on the right side of the screen if you’re scrolled to the top. Next to your picture under the sign up for newsletter where it says "public profile (edit)".
Welp, best get to Menard’s so’s I can start laying tile. I’d like to get this done in a timely manner. The toilet is in my office here and well…..you know me and not really thinking. If I’m half asleep or something…
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!
At w**k today so there will be no modeling for me for the next 3 days. Last night I noticed a 4-6 inch section of track that is bowed up slightly. It's at where 2 sections of the board meet. My diesels run over it without issue but some of my steamers try to derail coming off of it, so I guess Friday it will get cut out, re leveled and replaced. Ah the joy of having your own layout. The good thing is that it is at a area that is very easy to get to.
Everyone have a good day.
